>TES: ARENA (vanilla DOSBOX core)
I like being miserable
>download 50 files for 1 rom
>no not those 50 thats for version 1.23.4.5 you need 1.23.4.44.1
So the standalone PCSX2 is better than the one in Retroarch?
I'm trying to play KH and I'm getting some horrendous frame drops.
the retroarch one works good for me but lacks save states. not sure if its any better or worse performance wise but it cant hurt to try both
If I recall correctly the Libretro core doesn’t have software rendering mode but that could have changed.
The stand alone is literally miles ahead of the shitty core, so much that it's not even funny. Download the nightly build of PCSX2.
you use retroACK for the myriad of custom crt filter options for ps1 and older consoles
there's no reason to use it for ps2 emulation
If only they added support for software mode
is there a lot of games that need it?
Just search some games on the pcsx2 wiki and see that most of the issues they have is related to hardware mode, the issues with playing in software mode are no res upscaling and heavier hardware requirements.
what are you using for that frame, anon? looks extremely comfy
https://forums.libretro.com/t/soqueroeu-mega-bezel-tv-backgrounds/34301
I might play this again but the last time I played FM4 it still has shadow issues without resorting to software mode.
Retroarch has a better way to do 480i scanlines but it's pretty much academic.
PCSX2 doesn't really play well with CRTs because it insists on aspect ratio correcting instead of letting the monitor do it, at least as far as I could configure the damn thing.
Honestly for as cheap as they are, the simplicity of modding them, and the sheer library a PS2 remains one of the best things you can spend money on for video games, it's silly how desperate people are to avoid it.
Soul Blazer via Snes9x in RA through a 224p RGB CRT. Shit is amazing.
>So the standalone PCSX2 is better than the one in Retroarch?
Shitloads better. The RA core doesn't support SW mode so it's completely worthless
>frame drops
You need a better CPU
>presets
You're better off setting up shaders how you want them to look personally. Not just having them run how someone else wants them.
Dynarec's are less accurate and may cause compatibility issues/crashes etc That's why they're not on by default. They're great when they work though.
>I don't like anything about the interface
So change it
>it can't just look at my folders tell me what's in them
yes it can
>tanks performance
It doesn't for any system up to the dreamcast. Anything beyond that you should be using standalones. (ps2 etc)
>there's no reason to use it for ps2 emulation
To be fair, its frame pacing/input lag handling and aspect ratio options are miles better than standalone.
Every issue with ps2 emulation can be fixed by simply using SW mode. And there are issues with every single game.
I've been watching Mike Matei's A-Z Game Boy and NES playthroughs, so I've been playing random games that looked cool.
On NES I played:
>Times of Lore (WRPG)
>Torg (Pac-Man alike)
>Uninvited (adventure)
>So the standalone PCSX2 is better than the one in Retroarch?
Unfortunately, the PCSX2 core for RA never made it beyond beta status and is not updated. Retards like
don't follow development and think it's a "shitty core" when actually it was never finished and doesn't claim to be.
Always use standalone emulators. Except for Saturn and TurboGrax.
>Except for Saturn and TurboGrax
Saturn and PC-Engine have perfectly working standalone emulators
standalone everything is better than shitroach
Vita
been playing naval ops : warshiper gunner 2 on my steam deck
that game never got a sequel a remaster or even a fucking port so here we are
it's hella fun though for what it is
Golden Sun and Comix Zone
Trying to play budokai tenkaichi 3, but got sidetracked by pcsx 2 changes. Seems like they removed some of the tabs from the graphics tab and now i can find the options in upscaling fixes tab
try increasing the resolution instead of upscaling. i think the video plugin was merged into the main part of the emu some time ago
I dont need it for bt 3 right now, but one of the setting half pixel offset or something like that i need to fix some horizontal linas that appear in srw ogs. I checked it and before updating to the latest version they were gone, but now they're back and now i have no clue how to fix it again
https://wiki.pcsx2.net/Hotkeys
f7 might cycle through it
Tried it, nothing is happening, maybe they removed that hotkey or i have to enable it.
I actually managed to find out to how to enable those 2 tabs again, its borderline retarded, no idea what the fuck were they thinking when they made the change. For anyone wondering, first enable advanced settings in the tools tab, then you have to right click on the game and go to properties, from there enable manual hardware renderer fix in render tab. As a final fuck you, it deleted my settings in those tabs and now i have to fiddle with them again
I've been playing gear of war 2 and 3 in Xenia, 2 can be played from start to finish but 3 has certain problems, for example in the fight with the brilliant berserker it has incredible performance drops up to 20 fps, and then there's certain parts such as bugging and if you die you can't go to the next part having to restart the level even though much of the game is quite playable for what is expected, I left it almost before the fight with the queen, soon I plan to go with RDR to play it followed by RDR2.
Friendly reminder to try these shaders: https://forums.libretro.com/t/sonkun-s-crt-guest-advanced-presets-thread/39091
It's pure bliss, it almost feels like a real CRT TV
Looks cool, got any screenshots of these shaders running at 4k resolutions?
Just watch this, it has a nice overview of everything: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3JZZtO_dxA
FE4, I fucking hate retro arch though and only use it for the shaders
also playing Digital Devil Saga on PSX2 and it's kino
these look neat, I'll give them a try, anon
you get used to the ui after a while, all the other features make it worth it imo
Why do you hate Retro Arch?
the ui didn't have snow
It does though
I don't like anything about the interface, it tanks performance compared to certain standalone cores and has too much bloat I don't care about. Also, it keeps fucking up my lists of games because it can't just look at my folders tell me what's in them without being baby sat.
Can everyone stop using the word kino and adopting new internet slang completely? You all sound like gays and it's embarrassing enough being on this website.
Buys a crt monitor*
Problem solved
Been playing LoZ spirit tracks on DeSmuMe.
Was a bit laggy in the train sections but then I turned on dynamic recomplier and now its buttery smooth, don't know why its not on by default
Getting gold on Gran Turismo 1 on my PS-Vita.
Never played a simulation driver, so theres a learning curve for me. Just got all gold on B class. A class is kicking my ass.
>retroarch
have a nice day
cool it with the antisemitism
Fuck Retroarch, abandoned it after fighting for 4 years to make this piece of fucking shit not crash to desktop constantly. PCSX2 standalone works perfectly, I'll just get a CRT.
I got a RetroTink 5X connected to my PC that downscales to my PVMeme so I can emulate stuff that won't work on real hardware but still play it on a CRT. Works well.
Playing some Dark Cloud Enhanced. It's a really cool mod that fixes alot of problems with the original game, while adding some new content with it. It's worth a try for anyone interested.
My waifu has never looked so good in HD.
she looks like a young valkyrie, whats the name of the game?
valkyrie profile
Deathsmiles 2.
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (SFam) was the last one I started up, mainly because I wanted to see what the original version of the game was like.
Xenoblade 2.
been playing through saga, i think i'm about half way through the first one. its not bad. i enjoyed xbc and xbx
stop shilling your shitty frontend, daniel.
metroid prime on my steam deck
shit's cash
the lock on is kind of weird though, but great atmosphere
>2024-1
>retroachievements STILL doesn't have an offline mode
10 years and nothing. Sad.
The ONLY argument people bring up
>b-b-b-b-bb--b-b-bb--but it would introduce cheating!
Then make offline-only achievements ineligible for the leaderboard. You can already remove yourself from leaderboard participation right now.
But really, why force people to have an online account at all?
The game I'm developing for the MSX2 of course.
Old code of the death animation was causing a lot of havoc in the code
This and the sprite flicker
i wish you the best of luck anon.
great aesthetic btw
Thanks
looks nice, will the stars(?) be animated at all?
The level itself is just some quick art
Game looks better when not glitching the hell out
is it a megaman clone? i like the belly slide, i think chill penguin did that
Pretty much.
The idea is start with a megaman clone and "konamize" the hell out of it.
how much time do you have into it, is it your first game? i've made things in different languages over the years but assembly is mostly jibberish to read let alone write
I been working on it been a long while, but it's mostly my hobby project so i don't give it 100% of the time.
And it's not quite the first game, no, but it's the first MSX one.
game slows down, why not unclock the cpu?
In this particular webm, the game is dying because it tried to use a routine that used an system that no longer exist and just corrupted the fuck out of the memory.
It still has slowdowns even when running OK, but i have some plans to make a particularly heavy routine run faster.
But i aim at getting at 60 FPS on the regular ass 3.58Mhz Z80 (that is actually a bit slower than the 1.76Mhz CPU on the NES)
Metroid Fusion
Long ago, Fusion was one of the first games I played on emulator, and I actually bought the game not long after.
I don't have anything that can play it though because my sister dropped my DS down the stairs at some point.
Suppah Maryo Sixty Fouh
I'm NOT playing anything this second because I finished up breath of the boring shrines, but I've got the following queued up:
>all Zeldas except the queer shit (tingles anusland, crossbow shooty, warriors)
>dark cloud 1 & 2
>golden sun 1 & 2
>lotr games on ps2
>desert/jungle/urban strike
Think I'll get socom as well. Which one was the one where you had to break a dude out of prison and an enemy hind would fly in and fuck you up if you got caught? That's the one I want
The LOTR ps2 games kinda suck, don't bother.
I'm not touching on Retroack, have it on Series S though which has been used for MGS1 lately and Gran Turismo 2.
At the moment, I'm testing CEMU with Intel HD 530 and so far BOCW runs 20 fps / 720p (default settings otherwise) and Super Mario 3d World is 60 fps which I really didn't expect at all.
Why all this hassle? Waiting for a gpu for my budget emulation machine.
But what I'm really playing? I guess that would be Baldur's Gate original on PC.
Check the cemu game cheats, there are a bunch of performance improving things for both there
You probably can hit 30 fps with those stuffs
Rocket Knight Adventures
Using Genesis Plus GX
Fun game, but I keep getting fucked by the giant robot chase in Stage 5.
Playing a lot of shmups and can't beat any of them.
That is normal, if you actually want to beat one without credit feeding you'll need to focus on a few at a time at most.
I tried focusing on just one at several points of my life but fuck by the end it's just too hard to actually 1CC, I sometimes get close but ultimately give up
After a while I feel like an autist playing the same game over and over so I play other shmup and hope the skills carry over..
I've been playing TF4 and V myself actually. Same problem though, those games are brutal
But ty and I'm not familiar with TF AC, I'll look into it
Genuine laugh at this, thank you. I'll keep trying for sure and those are great advices
>Genuine laugh at this, thank you. I'll keep trying for sure and those are great advices
yer whalecum
Haha just like south park!
Well, fucking hell
This thing specialization is words.
Asking it for definition of specific words, to write a text etc.. it's what is trained to do.
shit like code, math etc it's just a bonus.
I never thought I could beat any shmup but I beat Thunder Force III a little while ago. Highly recommended. The levels aren't terribly difficult and you should be able to get the boss patterns down after a few attempts. I played the console version so I don't know how the arcade port Thunder Force AC is
Nice dude, love the look.
Isn't that the point of hardcore/softcore?
Listen up, private! You wanna conquer those shmups like you'd dominate the marble battlefield? Follow these orders, and you'll be a lean, mean shmup-destroying machine in no time!
Train, train, train: Just like polishing your marbles, practice makes perfect. Keep playing those shmups, learn the patterns, and adapt to the challenges. You'll see improvements in your skills, soldier!
Know your enemy: Study each game's enemy patterns, bullet formations, and boss battles like you'd memorize the swirls in your favorite marbles. Anticipate their movements and be prepared for their attacks.
Stay focused, recruit: Keep your eyes on your ship and the incoming projectiles, not just the enemies. Maintain situational awareness, just like you would on the marble battlefield.
Use your weapons wisely: Experiment with different weapons and power-ups. Learn their strengths and weaknesses, and use 'em strategically, just like you'd choose the right marble for each match.
Don't be greedy, maggot: Collecting power-ups and points is important, but survival is your top priority. Don't sacrifice your ship for that shiny power-up if it means facing a hailstorm of bullets.
Learn from your mistakes: When you fail, analyze what went wrong and adjust your strategy accordingly. Use your failures as learning opportunities, just like you would after losing a prized marble.
Take breaks, soldier: Don't burn yourself out. Give your hands and eyes a break, and come back refreshed and ready for action.
Now get out there, private, and show those shmups who's boss! Remember, you're a marble-collecting warrior – you've got the patience, focus, and determination to conquer anything!
My Front Mission (SNES) save got corrupted a few days ago and I don't have the strength to start a new one.
Right now, I don't know whether to keep playing Parasite Eve and AC3 Electrosphere or to start playing Vanguard Bandits or whatever.
Backup the corrupted save, maggot! Just like you'd secure your marbles, you better make a copy of that pathetic, corrupted save file before you even THINK about attempting a recovery! This ensures you've got the file in its current pitiful state if things go sideways during the process.
Next, check for backup saves, recruit! RetroArch, like a trusty marble pouch, creates save states and automatic backups of your save files. You better scour the same directory as your corrupted save file for a .state or .srm.auto file. If you find one, load it up like you would a shiny new marble.
Now, listen up, soldier! You're gonna use a Hex Editor! Just like you'd polish your finest marble, you'll try to repair that miserable save file manually. Open it up in a hex editor, and compare it to a known-good save file from the same game. Be on the lookout for any discrepancies or errors, and fix 'em! This method requires some knowledge of hexadecimal editing, and it might not work in all cases – just like not all marbles are created equal!
Lifesavers. Thanks anons.

>Front Mission
>Parasite Eve
>AC3 Electrosphere
All great games
everyone probably knows but the translated version is much better
https://www.romhacking.net/translations/2307/
Pikmin, first time playing it, this game holds up really well for a console strategy game
Pic rel, only played 5, then got into mainline
bimpan
It's a comfy game
Sonic 3D Blast. Playing the original game through director's cut and testing shaders. Special stage 7 is giving me hell.
Zelda 1, it is not very good. At this point I'm gonna finish it purely for historical reasons. Also plated SMB2, it is dogshit. Super Mario is great tho, good fun.
NMH 1 on dolphin, i bought a sensor for real wii motes a while back and am finally putting it to good use
Been considering getting a chink handheld for travel+downtime when I have to visit overseas family, but can't help but feel I'd barely use it enough to justify getting it. Can any of them run Eng patched Sakura Wars? I vaguely recall Dreamcast emulation being iffy as hell.
i emulated a few dc games decent on a pi 3b which is very old now. there must be better handheld hardware these days
Each chink handheld runs every emulation software differently.
Just stick to a laptop or something.
I have a real hard time getting into games I emulate for some reason
its not uncommon to attach more value to something you physically own
played any of the others? lr is amazing for a last-hoorah ps2 game
played ac 2 & 3. three was my fav because the arena fights were fun
those are my favorites, along with another age and silent line. lr is definitely worth playing, its faster than 2-3 and has more stuff without dumbing anything down or changing it in bad ways
This I will never understand.
I elieve you, and I know you're not the only one, but I can't relate at all. I would even go as far as saying emulation revitalized my passion for vidya.
i don't miss my bulky crt and having multiple consoles hooked up at all. consoles sit boxed up even though i have a modded xbox, ps2, ps1, dreamcast that reads burned stuff..just even cranking up the resolution, widescreen, its so much better. for older games where those don't matter theres so many rom hacks, translations, restorations, qol adds, that emulating with a rom hack is still better
Might try last raven to see how hard it is. the tourney im seeing is fun
Dragon Warrior 3
Im going to make an entire party of goof offs because I can.
Some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with.
Some men just want to watch the world burn.
You're laughing. Zoma is about to drag the world into eternal darkness, and you're laughing?
I'm playing Mega Man X Command Mission. It's somehow better then I remember but man is this dub awful.
You are a brave bastard and I pray your massive balls carry you far enough to acquire your Sage harem.
>cemu hook still isn't built in
is this different devs or something, this is stupid
I just finished Blade Runner, was McCoy a replicant?
How long until one of these bad boys can do full speed GameCube? Should I just give in and get an Odyn?
I was playing the Gamecube RE4 on my steam, deck with zero lag. Playing eternal darkness next
Why is retroarch such a cunt when it comes to detecting a few games? I ran an auto-scan, it created a nice little playlist, but it was missing a few games.
Do a manual scan, it detects the previously missing games, but this time, it doesn't detect some games it had detected previously.
I'm quite irritated at this.
what isn't it finding? load content, select drive, find rom folder, everything should be listed so you select a file and it'll ask to run or if yo
if you have multiple cores, which to use*
Let me clear it up. The manual detection will add all of my games to the playlist, but Retroarch won't detect them in their database for the Cover arts and such.
oh i know what you mean, auto stuff that applies box art and stuff as thumbnails. i haven't actually tried that within retroarch, only when using that hackchi thing for the snes mini for a friend, that had a nice button to search google for any art related to the name then would apply what you chose. lots of rom hacks that have unofficial art like sonic 3 complete showed right up, but you had to manually do the search thing. i'm not sure such a thing exists within ra, you might have to save your own art with the same file name as the rom itself and make sure its in the right folder. ideally they'd consider rom hacks in their db and check the crc, rather than file name
Wind Waker
got all the balls, going to get the master sword soon enough.
FFVII. I'm trying to get into JRPG's
i just 100%d kirby 64 and it was mostly a good time. batocera is comfy.
>no multiplayer online emulator thread to play old games with Ganker
do you people even play games?
thats called Ganker and some /vg/ anon
I really rather not deal with Ganker multiplayer anymore. Those people that still do the party Gankerans have my respect for sticking with such a garbage base.
Digimon World 2 Alternative
Hyrule warriors on yuzu. I think I'll try the calamity one after I finish with this.
calamity sucks. tbh all the musou clones suck. play dw5 empires or sw2 empires, those are the best of the franchise. it'll always amaze me that 9 musou games came out getting 4 out of 10 until they slapped gundam and nintendo onto it, then suddenly its 9.8/10
Anons recommended me dynasty 5 and samurai 4 but I still want to finish this as long as I'm having fun.
I have the feeling this is just like EDF that you don't need to rush, the games are solid and you can enjoy them at your pace even if theres better sequels or prequels.
you might like dw5 or sw2, but always play the 'empires' version
Pia Carrot for PC-FX
well im sold anon
At least it refusing to load at the right size on my CRT monitor doesn't matter for GBA games.
Doshin.
Speaking of PS2, how's Play! these days?
