So the standalone PCSX2 is better than the one in Retroarch?

the retroarch one works good for me but lacks save states. not sure if its any better or worse performance wise but it cant hurt to try both

If I recall correctly the Libretro core doesn’t have software rendering mode but that could have changed.

Just search some games on the pcsx2 wiki and see that most of the issues they have is related to hardware mode, the issues with playing in software mode are no res upscaling and heavier hardware requirements.

Retroarch has a better way to do 480i scanlines but it's pretty much academic.

Frick Retroarch, abandoned it after fighting for 4 years to make this piece of fricking shit not crash to desktop constantly. PCSX2 standalone works perfectly, I'll just get a CRT.

PCSX2 doesn't really play well with CRTs because it insists on aspect ratio correcting instead of letting the monitor do it, at least as far as I could configure the damn thing.

Honestly for as cheap as they are, the simplicity of modding them, and the sheer library a PS2 remains one of the best things you can spend money on for video games, it's silly how desperate people are to avoid it.

Soul Blazer via Snes9x in RA through a 224p RGB CRT. Shit is amazing.

      >So the standalone PCSX2 is better than the one in Retroarch?
Shitloads better. The RA core doesn't support SW mode so it's completely worthless
      >frame drops
      You need a better CPU

Friendly reminder to try these shaders: https://forums.libretro.com/t/sonkun-s-crt-guest-advanced-presets-thread/39091

      >presets
You're better off setting up shaders how you want them to look personally. Not just having them run how someone else wants them.

Been playing LoZ spirit tracks on DeSmuMe.
Was a bit laggy in the train sections but then I turned on dynamic recomplier and now its buttery smooth, don't know why its not on by default

Dynarec's are less accurate and may cause compatibility issues/crashes etc That's why they're not on by default. They're great when they work though.

I don't like anything about the interface, it tanks performance compared to certain standalone cores and has too much bloat I don't care about. Also, it keeps fricking up my lists of games because it can't just look at my folders tell me what's in them without being baby sat.

      >I don't like anything about the interface
      So change it
      >it can't just look at my folders tell me what's in them
      yes it can
      >tanks performance
It doesn't for any system up to the dreamcast. Anything beyond that you should be using standalones. (ps2 etc)

you use retroACK for the myriad of custom crt filter options for ps1 and older consoles
there's no reason to use it for PS2 emulation

      >there's no reason to use it for ps2 emulation
To be fair, its frame pacing/input lag handling and aspect ratio options are miles better than standalone.

is there a lot of games that need it?

Every issue with ps2 emulation can be fixed by simply using SW mode. And there are issues with every single game.

I've been playing gear of war 2 and 3 in Xenia, 2 can be played from start to finish but 3 has certain problems, for example in the fight with the brilliant berserker it has incredible performance drops up to 20 fps, and then there's certain parts such as bugging and if you die you can't go to the next part having to restart the level even though much of the game is quite playable for what is expected, I left it almost before the fight with the queen, soon I plan to go with RDR to play it followed by RDR2.

My Front Mission (SNES) save got corrupted a few days ago and I don't have the strength to start a new one.

Right now, I don't know whether to keep playing Parasite Eve and AC3 Electrosphere or to start playing Vanguard Bandits or whatever.

Backup the corrupted save, maggot! Just like you'd secure your marbles, you better make a copy of that pathetic, corrupted save file before you even THINK about attempting a recovery! This ensures you've got the file in its current pitiful state if things go sideways during the process.

Next, check for backup saves, recruit! RetroArch, like a trusty marble pouch, creates save states and automatic backups of your save files. You better scour the same directory as your corrupted save file for a .state or .srm.auto file. If you find one, load it up like you would a shiny new marble.

Now, listen up, soldier! You're gonna use a Hex Editor! Just like you'd polish your finest marble, you'll try to repair that miserable save file manually. Open it up in a hex editor, and compare it to a known-good save file from the same game. Be on the lookout for any discrepancies or errors, and fix 'em! This method requires some knowledge of hexadecimal editing, and it might not work in all cases – just like not all marbles are created equal!

Sonic 3D Blast. Playing the original game through director's cut and testing shaders. Special stage 7 is giving me hell.

Zelda 1, it is not very good. At this point I'm gonna finish it purely for historical reasons. Also plated SMB2, it is dogshit. Super Mario is great tho, good fun.

Been considering getting a chink handheld for travel+downtime when I have to visit overseas family, but can't help but feel I'd barely use it enough to justify getting it. Can any of them run Eng patched Sakura Wars? I vaguely recall Dreamcast emulation being iffy as hell.

i emulated a few dc games decent on a pi 3b which is very old now. there must be better handheld hardware these days

Each chink handheld runs every emulation software differently.
Just stick to a laptop or something.

those are my favorites, along with another age and silent line. lr is definitely worth playing, its faster than 2-3 and has more stuff without dumbing anything down or changing it in bad ways

      This I will never understand.
I elieve you, and I know you're not the only one, but I can't relate at all. I would even go as far as saying emulation revitalized my passion for vidya.

i don't miss my bulky crt and having multiple consoles hooked up at all. consoles sit boxed up even though i have a modded xbox, ps2, ps1, Dreamcast that reads burned stuff..just even cranking up the resolution, widescreen, its so much better. for older games where those don't matter theres so many rom hacks, translations, restorations, qol adds, that emulating with a rom hack is still better

Why is retroarch such a c**t when it comes to detecting a few games? I ran an auto-scan, it created a nice little playlist, but it was missing a few games.
Do a manual scan, it detects the previously missing games, but this time, it doesn't detect some games it had detected previously.
    I'm quite irritated at this.

what isn't it finding? load content, select drive, find rom folder, everything should be listed so you select a file and it'll ask to run or if yo

if you have multiple cores, which to use*

Let me clear it up. The manual detection will add all of my games to the playlist, but Retroarch won't detect them in their database for the Cover arts and such.

oh i know what you mean, auto stuff that applies box art and stuff as thumbnails. i haven't actually tried that within retroarch, only when using that hackchi thing for the snes mini for a friend, that had a nice button to search google for any art related to the name then would apply what you chose. lots of rom hacks that have unofficial art like sonic 3 complete showed right up, but you had to manually do the search thing. i'm not sure such a thing exists within ra, you might have to save your own art with the same file name as the rom itself and make sure its in the right folder. ideally they'd consider rom hacks in their db and check the crc, rather than file name

calamity sucks. tbh all the musou clones suck. play dw5 empires or sw2 empires, those are the best of the franchise. it'll always amaze me that 9 musou games came out getting 4 out of 10 until they slapped gundam and nintendo onto it, then suddenly its 9.8/10

Anons recommended me dynasty 5 and samurai 4 but I still want to finish this as long as I'm having fun.

I have the feeling this is just like EDF that you don't need to rush, the games are solid and you can enjoy them at your pace even if theres better sequels or prequels.
