Being able to play games from console on PC is great right now yeah but emulation is dying. Its practicaly become just Wine for new systems.

      >Switch emulated ~1 year after the release
Nah. Still waiting for Vita though.

I never call video games, anime, etc. "reddit", but for Retro Arch, I need to make an exception. The way it works, the "I need to have platform in one program" way of thinking, the flashy game libraries with covers and all, it's just all the quintessence of "reddit" to me.

RetroArch are thieves and they killed DuckStation.

My copy of DuckStation still works, I can upload it for you, if yours was killed.

Oh cool, I'll have to try it out then. Speaking of which, what's the latest console generation that's emulatable? My understanding is that switch emulation is pretty advanced but only for BOTW or something? I've literally never seen people bother emulating anything else, not even shit like Mario Oddessy or whatever

Both Switch emus work surprisingly well. Finished a couple of games, like Metroid Dread, Zelda: Skyward Sword and Triangle Strategy, all in 4k/60fps and with zero problems. Tested Live a Live as well, works perfectly.
Only Crash Team Racing had some sound problems, but I haven't tested it since 1,5 years ago.

I'm still mad that vita emulation is basically non-existent. It pretty much just works for Persona 4 golden and that's it. Everything else I tried barely works if it works at all.

Where is PSP emulation at? I haven't tried it yet but there's a couple games there I might be interested in, if the emulation scene is developed enough.

switch emulation is moronic good thanks to nintendo autists. switch games run better emulated than on actual hardware. botw 2 is going to run better on Steam Deck than switch.
ps3 emulation is super good and 360 is somewhat decent but slow to improve. og xbox is great now.
ps4 emulation has started but only plays sonic mania really.

You don't make an emulator for a game, you make an emulator for a system. Sonic Mania is just a very simple game that doesn't need much of the system to be emulated to run so it (and a few other simple shovelware titles) happen to work while the emulator is in its early stages.

Even my older brother's office notebook can run PSP flawless (Lenovo, 8GB RAM, Core i7 6th Gen, 4GB VRAM). I've tested GTPSP and it runs like butter in a bread. Now I need to fiddle with AutoHotKey and get to run a script that makes the throttle button to work like the analogs in GT4.

Many emulators/RetroArch cores support overclocking the emulated CPU
It makes megaman 3 much better for example

      Anonymous

Basically every game in existence is improved by emulation. Upscaling, shaders, filters, save states, rewind, CPU overclock, remove sprite limit, romhacks, uncapping framerate, etc.

        Anonymous

I gotta be honest, I just emulate to play games I want to play again but can't for whatever reason. I have no idea what any of that shit means except for rom hack and save states.

Actually, what the frick IS overclocking? I literally don't know anything about it except it might damage your hardware so I never looked into it at all.

          Anonymous

In the case i said, the emulated CPU is ran faster than normal, not your real CPU
Old games would fail to reach the fps target and run slower than usual when too much stuff is on screen, or when the coding is poor, or when it's a SNES in general
With a faster virtual CPU, the games manage to actually always reach the target and no slow occurs

I'm not sure if every emulator has a controller remap feature, but Retroarch has it
Simply plug your controller and go to Setting > Input > Port 1 controller to rebind your controls
Best part is that it applies to every emulator you use on Retroarch

That one won't work on Retroarch since there is still no Xbox emulator added to their database, but xemu, a working xbox emulator, does have controller support. I know that because I remember playing one of the games on the emulator with an xbox controller
