Mario levels are kind of lame. There is no cohesion from level to level, no binding theme. It's all just magic floating platforms and blocks.

I am so tired of this invisible cabal of youtubers shilling their shitty creations to one another all pretending to enjoy it before moving onto the next glorified ad. This tool literally does not need to exist and yet it's being presented as the greatest thing since sliced bread. Ugh.

Here's the thing about accessable tools: They only incentivize know-nothing casuals into creating waves of garbage which eventually chokes out whatever public sharing platform is used to exchange level data resulting in conceptual stagnation and eventually complete abandonment. Anyone knowledgable enough to understand good level design is also knowledgeable enough to make their own levels without needing these kinds of tools. They're purely for casuals to shit out uninspired garbage to share with their equally casual friends.

This is basically why RPG maker is complete garbage in its entirety. No one who has any talent for game dev whatsoever has any reason to use it, so those who do are the last people who you'd ever want to play a game from, and even the nit specifically selects for the lowest of idiots who think making a grindy JRPG would be the height of achievement.

There's been tons of good games made with RPGMaker. Like Fear & Hunger. I got into gamedev by playing with RPGMaker and GameMaker when I was young. They have their purposes. I'm developing my own game engine with my friend as a hobby and those tools have inspired me to try and support tons of customization but have a more accessible layer on top that helps me get stuff done faster.

you'll be singing a different tune when AI gets to the point when it's prompt based game developing, then RPGM will be seen as effort and care (which it is) in comparison to the easily churned out AI projects

it is entertaining with which enthusiasm you display your absolute cluelesness of the topic. as what you wrote indicates that you have no greater knowledge about RPG maker (not even speaking of you actually working with it to create something) i am wondering how you could speak so surely about it.

This is true, but popular games like Mario 64 drown in shitty romhacks long before they become accessible to everyone else. I'd argue that a tool like this at least allows for untalented people to make something resembling polish instead if a glitchy, unoptimized mess of a hack.

There is nothing to refute because everything you said was one hundred percent nonsense, accessible tools have kept dozens of communities going for decades and construction set games like this romhack or RPGmaker are not just about making something good.
          >They're purely for casuals to shit out uninspired garbage to share with their equally casual friends.
What's wrong with friends having fun making levels, I remember having a blast playing terrible levels my friends and I made in Tony Hawk's Create-a-park mode, I can't fathom being this cynical.

            >construction set games like this romhack or RPGmaker are not just about making something good
I agree, until you know how to modify these toys yourself then you're not going to stand out from anyone else.

            >What's wrong with friends having fun making levels
Calling a toy a toy does not mean I dislike toys, I am merely expressing concern over how good stages are supposed to be showcased without that sharing platform becoming yet another forum filled with attention whoring shitposting and clique bullshit. I preferred when you had to share levels in person anyways, so I suppose it has that going for it.
