Anime/manga is the only medium with good storytelling at the minute. Nobody wants to write good books, movie scripts, tv show scripts, plays, or video game plots anymore.
The terminal addiction to adding fanservice to all stories brings manga down a couple notches. You can make this argument when I can open a non-ero story and not correctly assume someone's getting groped/prostituted/etc. I'm not even asking you to do away with the hot character design
Nothing wrong with fanservice as long as it doesn't detract from the plot. Having a beach chapter or a hotspring chapter between big arcs helps with the pacing. You want to have some cool off time between a huge 40 chapter epic of an arc and the next one after that. Fanservice is the perfect for that so your readers don't feel story whiplash.
It's all about how the fanservice is handled.
