        >he never played Anvil of Dawn where sometimes your thrown weapons would randomly disappear after you threw them (very shitty for spear builds by the way)
Even Doom needed some patches after its release to fix various bugs (mostly to fix some level design mistakes like tutty fruity textures, HOMs, and visplane overflow errors)

What moronic fantasy is this? Games and movies too have been remade ever since they started existing right from the very beginning. Fricking RE is an obvious example of a series with a massive remake scheme, and the remakes used to happen far sooner than what we have now.
I'm so tired of morons making shit up to sound "elite".

Any game popular enough to get multiple printings would have bug fixes on later cartridge runs
That's why you had shit like 5 different versions of OOT
Plus a lot of the time if there was a gap between the JP release and international, the worldwide version would have a ton of fixes that later got backported to Japan. Square Enix did that constantly.

      >Explain why old games don't need updates without sounding like a millenial.

Because being old is a fundamental part of their identity. Everything is a product of the era it was made in. Old movies being in black and white isn't a flaw, because they were specifically designed with that limitation in mind. Just like how RE4 was specifically designed around not being able to move and shoot. If you want to make "The same, but modern and different" then just make a sequel instead.

      >Explain why old games don't need updates
But RE4 has been consistent updates for almost 20 years. In just the last 2 years, we got both an excellent VR port AND an HD texture pack that makes the game look better than most games releasing now. Explain to me why this game, in particular, needs a remake.

        Anonymous

Tank controls are nowhere near as bad as people make them out to be, fixed camera angles were a whole lot worse however I can see why modern audiences that are accustomed to games where your characters turn on swivel and are generally much faster would like it to be updated and that's fine, purists are bitter goblins that complain about everything anyhow.

It really didn't, the original is still good. They should've remade Code Veronica instead, or maybe Zero with co-op.
That said, remaking RE4 is less stupid than remaking Dead Space. Or The Last of Us. Or Demon's Souls: this isn't even a remake, it's the same game with better graphics.

Nah, tank controls are garbage for a game like RE4. Leon should be able to strafe and control the camera with the right stick, but he can't move when he's aiming.
You get used to it, and of course encounters in the game are balanced around the fact Leon can't fricking move, but it still feels kinda shit to play nowadays. Especially with mouse and keyboard.

          >Nah, tank controls are garbage for a game like RE4. Leon should be able to strafe and control the camera with the right stick
Dumbass, the whole game is centered around Leon not being able to move while shooting, if you change that, the whole game changes. Oh wait you are awared of it

            Anonymous

Leon has slower momentum and enemies are much more aggressive in RE4R, these are fine changes that make the game possibly harder than the original.
            >b-but it's not exactly the same game!
Yeah it's a remake, why would you rerelease the same game without any changes?

      Anonymous

This is at least true for kbm controls on PC, something about the mouse aiming felt really off. Like it was an emulated mouse or something rather than just using the direct input. Still got used to it and really enjoyed the original.

The sad truth. I don't hate remakes, but I don't see the point of them when the original is perfectly playable in my eyes.

It didn't. 2 and 3 remakes made sense because they completely changed the gameplay to a modern action game style. 4R is just a new coat of paint. There's nothing to change, because the original RE4 was the basis on which that modern style of gameplay was built upon.

For the same reason why anyone would want to see what a game is like with newer technology, have you seriously never sat down and played an older game and thought to yourself "Hmm I wonder what this game would be like if they made it with modern graphics?" The worst thing about remakes is they remake the wrong games, I'm never getting a Time Commando remake and that's sad.

      >have you seriously never sat down and played an older game and thought to yourself "Hmm I wonder what this game would be like if they made it with modern graphics?"

Unironically no, just like I don't look at old cars and wonder what a "modern" version of that car would look like. The old graphics are a part of its soul and identity.

        Anonymous

fair enough, the best part about not wanting remakes is that remakes don't even effect you can just ignore it and go play the original. now If game developers pulled a George Lucas I would see it as a problem.

          Anonymous

Remakes tend to frick up re-releases by existing, it's why we still haven't gotten a collection of the original PS1 RE trilogy. Thankfully the original RE4 has already been ported to everything. It's fricked up how if you want to play Demon's Souls or Shadow of the Colossus on modern systems you have to either emulate or play the remakes which have totally different visuals.

The demo had you explore the basement of the hunting lodge which was not in the original and represents a new setpiece. The demo constitutes for less than 5% of the full game, so saying there wont be any more is just flat-out moronic unless you have already played it or have seen a full playthrough of the new game. Of course there will be stuff that was in the not in the original and stuff from the original will be missing, but saying it's a one-sided affair is just bullshit.

There are new interactions in the village (though not available in the demo), redesigned buildings to let you enter them (the barn on the left, probably available later too) and a few new paths you can take (you can walk uphill from the cart with the red herb to the door that leads to the valley).

I'm okay with stuff like this. RE4 still looks extremely good for it's age, and while a little aged, still has a great feel for controls. I'm okay with these developers years later trying to do something new with an older title like this. It's fun if done right.

Shit that is NOT okay is stuff like whatever the frick FF7 remake was. No one wanted what they did, people just wanted FF7 but with better graphics, something that wasn't fricking hard in the first place, idk if you've ever looked at the game before. It's a major eyesore, and I genuinely like early looking 3D games.

FF7remake was necessary, but they fricked it up hard. RE4remake isn't necessary, but what they are doing with it is fine. that's the lesson i guess.
