      This, sometimes dead is better.

Good news: with the current dev cycle at bethesda, you might as well pretend their franchises no longer exist. It took them like a decade to release what's basically worse Fallout 4 with procedural generation instead of a crafted world. When do you think Skyrim 6 will release? 2030 is a very optimistic scenario. The subject of the thread? Mid 2030's is being extremely optimistic. MS could force them to stop sitting on IPs, but when was the last time MS has actually made a good decision?
It brings my piss to a boil, New Vegas was made in a year and a half. They could give the 76 engine to a competent studio and have a successful game in that amount of time, but no. It's their IP to sit on, and theirs alone.

I find the Legion a lot less interesting than the Enclave, I have a decent grasp of Caesar's plan and the appeal of the Legion but big guns, energy weapons, and patriotic music playing over the sound of gunning down muties is more appealing to me.

The enclave has very little substance beyond aesthetics. The Legion was tought up as a faction that would make sense to exist in a post apocalyptic world. Enclave is just more pre-war shit rearing its head again, no wonder betheada loves them.

They're very utilitarian, but they don't really have the system in place for uniformity the same way the NCR does. Proper armor is awarded to succesful legionaries. Seeing what a merged Legion/NCR would be after a Legion victory would be great.

Conceptually there isn't anything wrong with F4s factions. I actually really like the Minutemen, though I wish they weren't so married to the Laser Musket. Its the details that suck.

The minutemen are basically like the desert rangers, with no NCR to accompany them. There's this one institute quest where you're supposed to kidnap a scientist who doesn't want to join them and is guarded by the minutemen.
You need to pass a CHARISMA CHECK to tell him to frick off, even as their general. It's completely moronic.
The fact their entire 'questline' aside from like 2 quests is just a bunch of neverending radiant garbage is just the cherry on top. Awful faction. Bethesda has no clue how to make the player the leader of a faction, so they just make you a random goon with a fancy title.

I said conceptually not mechanically. The idea of a small militia you help develop and expand is great. The execution with the Settlement system sucks. Would have been way cooler if Sanctuary naturally rebuilt itself over time and as you progressed their quest instead of just being a glorified outpost

            Anonymous

Yeah, with how unoptimised the settlement system is, I hope they scrap it entirely. I can walk around cluttered diamond city with no issues, but the game shit itself the moment my settlement has more than one piece of furniture in each house.
I liked having full altilerry support over the commonwealth, but the volunatrism of the minutement makes no sense in the setting. They literally do it for free.

              Anonymous

That's just mutualism. If you do it for free for others they'll do it for free for you.

Hardly, the minutemen stopped a super mutant invasion of diamond city (how a group of yokels wearing farmer clothes with improvised laser weaponry managed to repell genetically enhanced shreks I do not know) and DC told them to frick off.
Settlements 'supporting the minutemen' ingame means you'll now have to nanny them whenever the game decides 999 defence isn't enough for a settlement of 6 people. Also gotta love walls not doing anything, the enemies just spawn inside. 5 super mutant overlords with missle launchers that kill you before the game loads in. Briliant.

              *shits itself
It's just gamebryo being gamebryo. They should have just allowed us to create our own interiors or, at least, have left some in certain settlements. Jamaica Plain's buildable area has a boarded up house take up valuable realestate and you can't do shit with it.

                Anonymous

The Settlement system loses all appeal to me the moment I try to make "Living Space" instead of "outpost/resource point.". Why I dislike Sanctuary because I feel compelled to make it look half descent and that is a sisyphean task.

                Anonymous

Absolutely. I just make them resource factories with little concern for aesthetics.
Sanctuary is a bit better, since it comes with premade homes you can alter, but the're still in an uninhabitable state.
The game would be much better off if you could just 'repair' settlements with resources you've gathered. Make it optimised too, have the population cap off at the amount the game can still run well without crashing, not your charisma.

                Anonymous

Oh yeah a system like that would have been much easier for the engine to handle and optimize. Would have been great if the sites improved back to something nice to look at the more resources you put in or how many adjacent sites were also under your control. And preferably only border sites could be attacked if you had a proper Perimeter around your turf.

                Anonymous

A settlement looking like the Covenant after you've poured a large amount of resources into it would be a great reward in of itself.
You could tie it to local leader somehow, maybe supply lines between settlements could improve them further. But no, we get jank.
Imagine if the game was set super early after the war and it had such a system, it'd be so cool.

                Anonymous

It's funny because that's the system they had planned for the Skyrim Civil War over a decade ago that they scrapped, had the opportunity to do it again, but instead they made it needlesdly complex and annoying

                Anonymous

Just making settlements seperate cells from the overworld would've gone a long way.
                >but instead they made it needlesdly complex and annoying
There's a whole subsection of defenses dedicated to traps. But when you travel to a settlement under attack, the enemies just spawn right where you appear! They don't even generate passive defenses unless they're activated (which breaks them and they need to be repaired again)
You know the game's stupid when you have a settlement guarded by subdued deathclaws and rocket launcher turrets, with nothing worth stealing yet it gets attack by raiders because... reasons.
Developing your settlement to the most extreme possible point (all shops, all unqiue vendors) will make it very unstable, as the tier 4 vendors (some of which you can only get during random encounters if you're very lucky) require humongous populations.
And then it's like getting all the gold bars in DM, you have more money than you could ever need with nothing to spend it on.

Tourists who get rightfully filtered by the fact its a proper RPG first and foremost or that in 2024, you have to, *le gasp* MOD the game a little bit so it doesn't run like poorly optimized shit or so that the QoL changes from 4 can be retroactively added to NV's admittedly mid gameplay.

i don't hate NV i hate it's autistic fanbase. they're like /misc/yps in a way. it's impossible to discuss the rest of the franchise without being called a shill or a pajeet, and it's so easy to bait them it's almost sad
pic related, the average NV fan

Shitposters who know people who like NV will respond. Outside of Ganker its morons who think Bethesda Fallout should be the only Fallout.

It's going to be San Francisco because they explicitly asked the Show Runners not to touch it

It was Obsidian that they asked not to touch it

Fallout 5 is going to be rushed out and set in LA to ride the hype wave of the show. It will release along with season two and have some kind of ARG tie-in.

i would love a fallout in mainland china, taking into account that it was the second country most bombarder to hell and the fact that it was in the middle of a ground invasion,it can have a interesting dinanmic between the surviving americans and the chinise natives.

It'd be the reverse shi, but it'd actually make more sense. You're telling me the crews of a bunch of submarines took over a whole city? A massive invading force taking over makes more sense. I wouldn't mind a DLC taking us to china.

san fran was deserted when the crew got there. they took over what used to be chinatown. dont remember where there scientologists came from. or if it was ever explained more then we had a late night fallout tabletop session with a few beers to back us up

but it does not matter anymore. the lore is now hot garbage with nonsense getting piled upon nonsense after the show killed off west coast

        >One of the turning points of the war came in 2074, as, despite claims of fighting a defensive war, American infantry and mechanized divisions launched a mainland counter-invasion of China itself.

That would be interesting, and a nice change of pace too.

Idk but I hope it has more CoA and a new Cult of Nothing. Maybe a plotline of a holy crusade against each other.

Shame the Far Harbor writer left Bethesda.

Right I forgot that. There are subtle nods to a cult of nothing in 76 for some reason (makes no sense given the time line, but there’s some graffiti about it)

I hope Microsoft gets too paranoid to do anything and any Bethesda project gets canned indefinetly. Thats where I would like for it to take place.

It doesn't matter as long as Bethesda is dead by then. I hope Microsoft kills it off and lets a competent studio develop Fallout 5. For TES6 all hope is lost. Same here, hopefully TES7 is made by another studio

They've been getting progressively less brown since NV. 76 isn't brown at all.
