le heckin anthropomorphism
so creative, so based
pig orcs, cheetah elves, mouse gnomes, badger dwarves, dog halflings and ape humans. Only way to play.
Don't you get tired from acting so braindead all the time
NPCs don't tire, they're just following coding
Why is it that mind-flavors are always so much more intense than their real counterparts?
Aphantasia isn't real, it's a misunderstanding of language.
No one literally "sees" things in their mind.
Sensation and imagination are impossible to confuse.
Says you. If your brain can't take you to another world you might be functionally retarded.
I can imagine another world. But the feeling imagination provokes is not comparable to the feeling of experience you get from being personally isekai'd to another world.
retard
I acknowledge your concession
cope
What fucking concession? What the fuck was there to even respond to?
>actually no one can see anything in their mind
>>yes they can retard
>well it's not the same thing as an isekai
Where in this absolutely fucking retarded conversation was there anything to rebutt or concede?
Because they fucking can't.
No one can LITERALLY see things with their mind.
Sight is one thing. Imagination is another.
No human could possibly confuse the two without the consumption of drugs.
You can connect the feeling the two things provoke, but the feeling of sensation is always different from that of imagination.
Aphantasia is a stupid meme that began when people were unable to understand that "seeing things in your imagination" is not literal.
See also in the series of made up psychological phenomena: Synesthesia
>No one can LITERALLY see things with their mind.
Fuck off aphantasia gay.
If i throw you in a dark dungeon for 10 years will you never miss seeing the sky? You can "see it in your mind" after all.
If I threw you in a dark dungeon for 10 years would you even notice a difference, you literal empty headed retard
Answer the question you little shit.
Is imagination really as good as sight?
Why do you need pictures of people?
Just imagine their faces. That's literally the same thing right? No, it's literally not, fuck you.
>goalposts
Just because I want external stimuli and my imagination obviously isn't as good as reality it doesn't mean I can't literally see things in my head.
You do not literally see things in your head, because imagination isn't literally sight. It's that simple.
Sight is when your eyes detect light. Imagination does not require light. Or eyes. And your brain knows very well how to distinguish the two things happenning.
>You do not literally see things in your head
I understand what you are trying to get at, but using your logic please explain how dreams work then, lucid or otherwise. Those distinctly feel like actual sight to me and I also memorize vivid ones the exact same as I would if I saw something in real life.
I don't know how dreams work, but i don't think it relates to aphantasia.
When actually dreaming, you can perceive your dream as real. This doesn't happen with imagination.
Seriously how the fuck does this work? I can't "see" things when I close my eyes but I have very vivid dreams, I can remember most of them even years after I dreamed them and sometimes I even have a little control over them. But my "mind eye" is blind. I need to focus a lot to barely visualize anything
It's unknown. Some studies claim people with aphantasia tend to have higher IQ. Maybe for people who can't easily simulate imagery like yourself, the brain fixates on the immediate environment, and the limiters are released in sleep mode. That's not to say people with hyperphantasia are lower IQ as a rule, but that limiting the capacity for daydreaming could have had a positive effect on evolutionary fitness. I can picture a caveman daydreaming about tiddies getting killed by a caveman who can only dream about tiddies in his sleep.
>I can picture a caveman daydreaming about tiddies getting killed by a caveman who can only dream about tiddies in his sleep
Success breeds jealousy
My aphantasia prevents me from reading books. I get too hung up on imagining every single description from fights to items to buildings, that I just get exhausted, overwhelmed, or even too confused to continue. I didn't think I was supposed to literally shut my brain off to read but that's what It felt like.
Aphantasia is the inability to simulate imagery. What you're describing sounds like hyperphantasia, but I'm no expert.
>erm *snorts* ackchually your eyes work by processing photons...
You're either a coping aphantasia gay who cannot comprehend what having an inner eye is like or you're a genuine sperg.
Keep seething that you can't rotate a cow, npc.
For you, if you look up how the eyes work even further you'll see that the brain also simulates images to make up for what the eyes don't see. It isn't entirely an interaction with light. So the phantasiafags are also correct in that they "see" simulations. It would be unfair to say that isn't "seeing" when simulation is a part of the vision system.
You are simulating images with your brain, not "seeing". That's what he's saying. You are saying you can "see" the simulation, which does describe the phenomenon. Both of your arguments in this back-and-forth is about the semantics of vision. Peak autism, the both of you.
Yes, and that's what Aphantasia boils down to, semantics. Which is why it isn't real.
>people literally admit to not having an inner eye as explained by an easily understood visual representation
NPCs don't tire, they're just following coding
>UHH NO IT'S JUST SEMANTICS
Actually, you can "see" without your eyes. retard
There are observed differences in neural activity between people who can and can't see things in their minds, retard
I only know one person who can admittely see things with his mind and hes not very bright to say the least
>npc exposing itself
I can visualize an apple down to the smallest fucking detail, and I can imagine washing it, peeling off a sticker, and eating it every moment of the way.
And don't say Greeks/Romans/Arabs/Egyptians, genuine mythology/religion doesn't count.
Greeks get credit on this one.
Anon I can see between 2 and 3, depending on if it's an object i've seen before or something I'm inventing from other things
I literally see the afterimage when I open my eyes
>no argument
all right?
>Nooo i need hecking argumentino for my whinerino
Here's your "argument"
What kills me is The Baldur's Gate devs getting pissy everyone was choosing white male human fighter and not choosing their ultra exciting not!elf races. They don't even have orcs or goblins as playable. I realize they are restricted to dnd races but dnd has so many player races. Minotaurs, Centaurs, Tortles, Kenku, Bugbears would have at least stood out.
>snowbunny
Rent free.
you can tell the artist is a chink
>so much untapped potential
lol i hechin love onedimensional anthromorhomerino racerino with zero culture and one type of personality!! so original
Yinglets
Fantasy chads love this but normalfags and SJWs hate it because they're not 1:1 stand-ins for oppressed groups. It's why tons of older dungeon crawlers were filled with creative player races but modern fantasy is just tieflings.
if you use them you don't have to go make lore from scratch for people to understand them
that's the main crux and why fantasy is so popular. Sure, individual properties play around with stuff, but the orcs are big and strong, the elves are beautiful and in tune with nature and the dwarves live underground and craft shit.
Normalfags can jump in and not be instantly lost
RPG devs be like
>my unique homebrewed fantasy universe has all kinds of races, from talking elephant-man to humanoid birds and elemental humans
>oh, they also all live together in a huge city and all coexist, there is no unique kingdom or culture, they believe in the same gods, speak the same language
>there is also no historical event where this naturally happened, there was never a dominant race, who founded the kingdom, it all just emerged randomly
Please name the RPG, I'd love to play something new instead of the usual slop
I think he's talking about pathfinder kingmaker.
Those games are all Tolkien shit and maybe a single different race. Did he lie?
>Talking elephant man, bird people elemental human
>They all live in one city believing in one religion speaking one language
>None of this is explained or makes sense
Sounds like pathfinder to me.
is also no historical event where this naturally happened, there was never a dominant race, who founded the kingdom, it all just emerged randomly
Ah yes i want half of the text in the game to be lore dumps. The other half should explain the magic system in great detail, obviously
>Endless number of Tolkien knockoff fantasy games every year
>Only example cited so far in this thread of "dozens of furshit bait" is Pathfinder Kingmaker, a game where all 9 player races are just humans but pointy ears or short (another Tolkien ripoff)
Seriously can you people actually name any games that fit your description? I can't wait for you to find some 1 man indie game to try and prove your point lol
There's no examples lol. They just bitch about OP pic because they think that bitching makes them appear smarter. These kind of "people" would mindlessly bitch about anything, it's an automatic response at this point
Yeah. Stuff like that always rubs me the wrong way.
>Marcy
Good luck with that.
If ligers and tigons can breed, I'm sure if you fuck her hard and long enough she'll pop out an elf quadroon mutt baby.
Aren't half elves in DM explicitly said to be 100% mule equivalents?
According to Thistle, IIRC, but Thistle is a fucking gay.
I need to get back to reading this.
I really like how it went from comfy D&D shenanigans with cuisine to SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST, EAT OR BE EATEN
OK I now need to get back to reading it even more so.
Source?
Sopa de Dungeon Uma Delicia
Dungeon meshi.
That's just most writers in general.
Everything boils down to wanting to self-insert so making things close to human
Yes, the people from the magma planet that are monogendered still have a 'twink' subspecies that do stereotypical 50's human female things on a planet with none of the resources required and the 'men' species have massive milkers for manly men to muscle molest and make out with
>>oh, they also all live together in a huge city and all coexist, there is no unique kingdom or culture, they believe in the same gods, speak the same language
This makes far more sense than racially segregated "kingdoms" that apparently engage in genocides and massacres on racial lines whenever a war occurs, or even stupider, suggesting that these nations in isolation exist at peace and there is zero crossover of culture or populace. If you had a giant desert territory with plenty of life, where lizardmen, Lamias, hardy desert-bound humans, wasteland orcs that spilled into the desert, maybe some gnolls and kobolds for good measure are all in the region, why would you suggest that they organically made segmented territories where only that race can exist, and that any and all crossover is blasphemy and warrants some form of violent response? The notion that someone could make a huge thriving city with zero outsiders permitted is comical.
It's poor writing, modern day writers have no actual adversity in their lives so their worldbuilding reflects that, most conflicts are centered around macguffins and never feature culture that is anything more than just worse rip offs of tolkiens or real world cultures
A great example of this is ashes of creation, the game designed a lot of their fantasy races as "definitely not the maori" and just combined two animals into one for many of their animals
Modern writers and idea guys are so derivative of everything they've been inspired that you can predict most fantasy games world building fairly easily, even when they are trying to subvert the genre with self-referential crap
Come play my game that I’m totally gonna make one of these days.
>snow bunny
Picture this, medieval Earth but an intergalactic empire has conquered it and periodically sends its worst criminals to be banished here while spurring the humans on to hunt and murder them through a factitious religion. The only alien races that manage to survive by the skin of their teeth are the vaguely humanoid looking ones who manage to blend in, the ones who are savvy enough to develop technologies on Earth and trade them with humans or the ones who are ferocious enough to stand up to the humans' inquisitorial murder forces.
boring, shit idea
That actually sounds like a pretty unique and cool setting
Modern/near future setting without the now usual spread of furries and 99% human variants and I'd be interested.
all video game worldbuilding is shit
fantasy with lots of meaningless shitty races is the bottom of the bilge waste shit smeared filth grime shit barrel of worldbuilding potential
maybe first make one race with actually good lore and history instead of dozens of furshit bait
The problem isn't a lack of creativity, it's the need to make a functional game released in a reasonable timeframe.
for me, it's lizardfolk
Legitimately the only "furry" race I would ever consider for world building. They're cool.
because the normie audience knows what a orc, elf, goblin is. ask them what difference between a bosmer and dunmer and they don't know what the fuck your talking about. ask them to name every kind of angel and they'll ask you to go touch grass.
let's not forget you have to make the new races or subspecies actually appealing and different enough to warrant actual effort to remember them. making them a mishmash of different real-life cultures can only get you so far.
There was a post I saw on /tg/ a while back talking about how a book writer's struggles with being TOO creative with his fantasy. Basically the further away you get from standard fantasy tropes the worse the sales did.
Basically the moral of the story is blame normalfags and NPCs.
I think in some ways it's the same reason fanfiction is popular. If people already know they like elves, dwarves, etc. that lowers the barrier to enjoying your story, world, and plot. They don't want to have to put the work in to learn a whole vocabulary and ecosystem for your book when they're not sure it's good enough to warrant that effort.
>Basically the moral of the story is blame normalfags and NPCs.
The real issue is marketers. People like weird characters, at least in the west. The problem is that western marketers create this fucking retard-tier self-fulfilling prophecy:
>people don't have much experience with nonhuman characters in media
>the ones we interviewed as a focus group said they're not sure if they'd like nonhuman characters (because they don't see them often)
>let's not use as much money marketing this, since we're not sure it'll work
>nobody saw our media because we didn't market it
>people don't have much experience with nonhuman characters in media
It's just an endless and retarded cycle, perpetuated by mongs who try and rationalize it by saying shit like "WELL AUDIENCES DON'T FIND NONHUMAN CHARACTERS RELATABLE" when shit like the FUCKING MINIONS dominated "relatable" culture for nearly a fucking decade.
I don't think it's entirely marketers, there are plenty of normalfag westerners (see this thread) to justify their methods. But I think for
the problem is much of fantasy work relies on appealing the lowest common denominator. A brief review of the most famous works of art or architecture shows they're usually produced as a passion project by the creator (consider Tolkien) or sponsored by some wealthy patron. But basically if you're work is driven by the need to make money from customers (almost all modern fantasy), it goes the way of Marvel films.
>relatable
I've grown to despise that word
It's true though. Look at almost anything with non-human characters like dragons, monsters, demons, aliens, etc. they instantly become way more popular to fans the moment they are shown to be able to assume a human form and then all fiction and art and story focuses on them being human.
That shit is so fucking boring and I wish l normalfags a terrible death for their shit tastes
you just want to fuck the monsters
admit it otherwise you wouldnt care if the same character you already liked became human
If its the same character whether they are human or not then why are they not human in the first place? That's the problem. If there's no difference then they should have just been human instead of needing a human form because that basically admits them being non-human is not really meaningful to the character when it should be.
>why are they not human in the first place?
exactly thats why having nonhumans in the first place is stupid thanks for understanding
Are we the only odd men out for wanting to fuck non-antropomorphic dragons?
no, we are the just and true men of culture.
>fantasy universe but all of the non-human races are xeno-styled
Why don't more games do this?
Why are autists and furfags so obsessed with polluting up fantasy settings with hundreds of flavors of the same hat is essentially the same fucking thing at the end of the day? You ever wonder why we are the only human species around nowadays despite there being around a dozen different human species? It’s because we fucking murdered and fucked the others into extinction before the bronze era even started. If you want monster people and guns and laser and shit, play a fucking sci-fi game for fuck’s sake
>b-but muh elves!!! b-but muh dwarves!!!!
The actually have mythological significance in LotRs that effects the story. You autists are just so obsessed with superficial designs to see how they differ from humans in an actual meaningful way that justifies their existence
I'd be down with a recontextualization of just the existing human races.
>Europe with Arabic topography

Ok
Make all of the races in your pic unique and balanced WITHOUT falling into elf/dwarf/orc stereotypes but with a different name

VIDEOGAMES BOARD
Also nowhere in the OP does it say it's setting specific, idiot.
>Video games don't have lores or settings
Whoa...
>VIDEOGAMES BOARD
objectively false
I-
...Listen here you-
...Dangit, you're right.
......but screw you anyway!
Well some are bound to be like DND kobolds and whatever, but you're absolutely right. These are just reskins. Look cool tho
>kobolds
Scalie or furry?
Tribal foresty. Like the fungoid. Atlantian/octis will just be tribal underwatery. Dogs of war just tribal cardinal directiony.
depends on the setting. for whatever reason japan likes to envision kobolds as dogs for whatever reason while they're seen as lizard dragonkin in the west.
>for whatever reason japan likes to envision kobolds as dogs
The same reason orcs are piglike or why elves are 200/10 sexy-cute best girls in Japan.
Those are because of the old DnD art for them.
Unironically D&D. Old D&D art showed kobolds as scaled but with fairly dog like faces, and the Japs liked that and ran with it even though later D&D leaned more towards the little lizard/dragon people. It's why pOrcs are still what Japs go for: the old D&D art gave them pig heads.
>Reject modern fantasy
>Embrace Medival Romance
This. Can't we have a low fantasy story that isn't about mercenaries, prostitutes and swearing?
Play potion craft alchemist simulator. The gameplay is extremely repetitive but the low fantasy is there in the regards that you are but a humble potion seller
You know as well as I why something like that could never happen again
Does it begin with a “j” and end with a “w”?
Thats why its so perfect. You can't just write a new Aurtherian legend. The canon is set and no attempt to modernize or adapt the legends can ever escape from the original's shadow. And any Romances that don't involve King Aurther might as well not exist to them. Medieval Romance is untainted by modern authors who are too busy trying to complete with Tolkien to ruin them with their filth.
>just add more choice paralysis
>just diminish everything to be more broad
skyrims added khajiit and argonians at least
ngl I'd play a sectoid. looks pretty cool.
>octis
this is just the fucking aliens from metal slug
For me, it's Fungoid
this is why alien fantasy is superior, fuck earth anatomy and fuck earth culture
Sci-Fantasy was always the hardest to get right yet the best kind of fantasy
>what is convergent evolution
Just because it's alien doesn't mean it wouldn't look at least somewhat familiar to us.
we know they'll have eyes, fingers, and maybe also spines, but we can't really guarantee a whole lot more than that
Watch out, you'll make him sperg out about how only monkeys are capable of intelligence again like he did a couple months back
even the fingers are optional. octopi are plenty smart and they make due with suckers. corvids and parrots too.
(you) should read Prophet 2012/Earthwar
shit, is that guy riding on top of a posthuman?
He is. The only humans left on Earth have (been forcefully) devolved back into monkes used as farm animals.
The humanity they devolved from is itself a clone race consisting entirely of alterations of just one super soldier. Familiar humanity is just outright gone in this setting.
>modern fantasy game
>succubi have replaced elves
>the dwarves/hobbits/gnomes/goblins have been replaced with a unique e-boi race
>animal ear race
>plant person race
>scaled person race
If it works, don't change it.
one dragonbat rider wife, please
Outside of anglos, japs, chinks, morons, and maybe Germans and French, who else has made fantasy races/works of any prominence?
There is another path.
I'm a sucker for grand visions, so I really hope the worldbuilding pays off for them eventually.
>Ancient robot
I love this trope like you wouldn't believe. Magitech is criminally underrepresented. Fungoids are cool, too.
>thinly veiled furfag thread
wat
You can't be "diverse" and virtue signal with things that don't look human. At the other end you also have sticks in the mud who prefer humanlike races because
>elf tier coom
>muh furries
>most people only play or like human anyway so creating playable or npc non-human races is wasteful
>humans and humanlike races are inherently more "mature" like muh Game of Thrones
I don't get that last point. How is it more mature to have only human races? Is it because all of the more fantastical designs are typically found in more 'childish' forms of media?
Yes. Don't you know that anime is only for children?
Ask most writers and the like and they tell you the best fiction is always about the human condition, thus in order for non humans to be taken as seriously as humans they need to basically be humans.
The purpose of sci-fi or fantasy is to explore various facets of humanity, whether it is the future and we speculate on what may be or in fantastic worlds reminiscent of our past and we examine the human condition through what-ifs and what could've been.
>The purpose of fantasy is to explore various gay real life social issues
cancer
Retard.
this bothers me because one of the beauty of non human race is to explore facets of the human condition.
that just sounds like an excuse for "human easier to design, also human more coombait potential for normalfags"
>fantasy game
>we want to be more creative with our races
>it's all furry shit
I hate it more than the generic human, elf, dwarf mix
Tolkien fantasy connects us with the past.
Across the Obelisk has been pretty refreshing in this era of shit fantasy. Actually fun and unique characters, enjoyable tone, save the princess plot (something which is no longer allowed these days). One of few deck builders I've enjoyed and the multiplayer is awesome. Though don't go into it expecting too much story, it is a gameplay first experience.
uhh bro your darkest dungeon is looking kind of weird
I thought that too and there's some inspiration but it manages to scratch a different itch.
I despise card games with a passion, but I'll take your word for the diversity bit. Humans are over half of what's in that pic tho
I think final game ratio is somewhere around half. Unfortunately there are now people complaining that too many of the humans are white and that they need to release more human characters that aren't white. The devs countered that they didn't want to only focus on humans but obviously with that crowd such an answer is unacceptable. It's why I believe the biggest opponent to actual fantasy races are these race politic idiots. But I can definitely understand the card game complaint, I've avoided almost all of them too and only tried this one begrudgingly. And while it's fun, if you truly hate cards it's definitely not a great idea.
I am also pretty sick of the vast majority of games, especially in certain genres, where you do exactly the same human things that you do in every other game. Especially for something like survival games where you're very often doing the same shit that you do in every other survival game because humans obviously have the same needs. There are some exceptions, but it seems like there's easy ways to turn the normal survival stuff on its head (eg, you're not in a wilderness but in a city as a sewer monster or something)
because you have to make up lore retard, you can't just say "here are ducks btw". suikoden 4 did that, and nobody liked the fucking duck character because it was dumb and had no world building and lore around them.
you can add anything you want, the ones people use have the benefit of having like 4 decades of fucking lore already built up behind them though so they don't have to do anything.
games add dogs and shit and even if they do make lore, it ends up being shallow and garbage which taints the whole thing.
ivalice has a bunch of races for example because they bothered to build them up
sex
>BG3 devs smugly complain that everyone makes generic human male
>Their idea of unique races is wacky colored humans with horns and tails and those guys from that Delgo movie
T-thanks I guess, I know they're using PHB as a base but maybe they should add Orcs, Goblins or fucking Dragonborn before complaining about everyone making white men
Play dwarf fortress
Forgot image
>not a single low-cut panty in the entire picture
Is it really him?
Here you go
The middle one looks like he fucks elf women
Yeah, I'd rather have Glurfs and Schmorks in my fantasy setting.
you gays just want things to be less human because you are autists and cant fuck something since human faces make you upset
you dont care if any of this shit makes zero functional or literary sense
humans and elves are always the protagonists because thats what makes sense, theres a reason nobody ever made a book about 4 armed lizard cats that can only see x-rays
It's not the fact that we only get humans, it's the fact that we only get Humanoids.
I've wanted a quadrupedal character in games for so long now. And it's shit how often games strain to imagine humans doing shit when a Wolf or bear could have been a better
>can be a silent protagonist and make sense
>can eat basically anything
>can run fast
>can actually shrug off pain unlike a human
>can sleep outside
>can go days without eating
>can eat what you kill without preparing it
I'd pay good money for a game as a wolf where you fight Skinwalkers and witches who are corrupting your territory. no humans whatsoever.
the fact that Stray did so well proves I'm right, there is a market for games without humans. But marketers are fucking retarded.
Races needs to be bipedal to have an advanced society, you cant craft with mouth or fins
I didn't say society retard, I said a player character. if all we do is fight we don't need arms.
go watch twitch or youtube on a game release to see that your average normie gamer self inserts themselves into EVERYTHING if they have the choice to. this is their manifest destiny and will always be.
Stray did insane numbers and wasn't even that polished. It was the bare minimum of a cat game and that was all it needed. There is a market, and refusing to make a game because there is no other precedent is ignorant
>fantasy game where racial differences affect gameplay
>the big race is better than all the other races at everything forever
>fantasy game with dozens of unique and interesting races
>can only play human good guys
ffxii is guilty of this to an extreme degree. ivalice has tons of unique races and your entire party just consists of 5 humans and a bunny girl.
>fantasy game with dozens of unique and interesting races to genocide
>can only play human bad guys
God I wish more games did this
>kot race
>height is advantageous
someone finally gets it
whats the point of making a character a bird if it never flies
>reading fantasy but not wanting fantasy
Alright
>fantasy isn't actually about telling stories, its just about autistically assembling an encyclopedia of novel but vapid ideas
I've always known this was the case but thanks for admitting it anyway
Yeah? Ever read Abrahamic texts?
abrahamic texts arent a narrative and they arent full of 1000 furry races either
How are we defining narrative here, every ancient fantasy is full of cool for cool's sake, arguably even up to Tolkien, it's a story, not a thesis or a self-help book.
a narrative is when events and character development happens and theres themes and morals
the vast majority of abrahamic or even pagan texts are listing off names and events and laws without any narrative structure
No, I only read norse mythology. The vikings were so based that they completely shat all over their own worldbuilding and consistently butchered it and messed it up between different stories, but immaculately preserved tragedies and other interesting stories about famous characters. That, in my opinion, is how you write good fantasy.
>NPC narrative
seethe more furfag
I think the loop is broken
You don't need humans to have a story with a good plot featuring themes, intrigues or challenges.
Humans are there for people to easily insert into the situation/story. See: how for example high concept fantasy shit like the Dark Crystal bombed, both in its original release and in its revival prequel series that although well received by fans was extremely unsuccessful.
This is only an argument for economics though, not for the quality of a work.
Does it matter how high a quality something is if nobody actually cares about it and it appeals to nobody?
>Does it matter how high a quality something is if nobody actually cares about it and it appeals to nobody?
Yes
>sometimes writers write lazily. therefore nonhumans should never be written about
what a fucking retard
write sci-fi you stupid fucking moron
fantasy isn't a zoo for your freakshit
im fine with the well known fantasy races as long as they have actually fleshed out personalities and a good story line, which worldbuilding autists usually dont care about as much. i noticed that shitty ones who try too hard will just make races with slight variations on the classic ones and its obvious that its not very creative. things like dwarves, but theyre purple...and live in swamps...and uh, religious fanatics? or my least favorite of all: they are elves, except with a twist. instead of being incredibly beautiful, theyre ugly. i feel like there was a phase were western games were literally afraid to make cute elves and we are just barely climbing out of that dark age
The gulf in quality between the Tolkien and the rest of fantasy is so vast that nearly everything else is irrelevant
Anyone who derides something as "tolkienshit" or claims fantasy is plagued by Tolkien clones clearly has no clue about what they are talking about and can be instantly disregarded
Retard. It's not about the quality of Tolkien's work at all, but the terrible saturation and quality of those who carelessly imitate and just paste his aesthetic and concepts thoughtlessly over and over again often without even understanding or recreating what made it actually good.
>imitate and just paste his aesthetic and concepts thoughtlessly over and over again
Nobody actually copies Tolkien though
its always just dnd trite
