We have a flea market set up in the field near the local mini mart/gas station.
Can buy a full set of groceries on the cheap every Wednesday from the farmers, cuts of venison from the hunters, some black folks sell clothes with art printed on it or airbrushed paintings, and a couple has a nice orchard and will have peaches, pears, and pecans.
All of them are good people.
As for me, eggs sell well since I have enough hens to undercut grocers, crops sell pretty good too, but is season dependent.

sorry you live in a 600 sq ft apartment sweetie

Farm sim games are for low testosterone urbanites who don't actually work with livestock or crop whatsoever. They want to simulate it without having to actually exert physical effort, then claim they're such badass tough boys for moving pixels on a screen.
If you actually worked on a farm for any period of time in your life, you'd know the last thing you want to do after upwards of 12-13 hours of work, often-times at the worst fricking hour, is MORE WORK.
Have a couple ostrich pics. I've been spending most of my working days setting up open space for them on my property because these shits grow fast and I have ten in total, they won't be able to stay inside long and they need somewhere habitable they can roam around in before winter comes.

Both. They're scary c**ts and are good for warding off the ballsier vermin in areas I don't want any dogs or chickens roaming around where I know they'd be fine, plus the eggs are valuable. And if I get sick of any, they themselves run for a decent value.

                Anonymous

Ostrich meat is really similar-tasting to beef but incredibly tender if cooked right. But you really don't wanna eat them, they're more valuable alive and by the time they die of old age the quality of the meat is obviously much worse. If you get ostriches, I recommend just getting no more than two because you can in theory raise 1 or 2 out in the yard and selling ALL their eggs to guarantee you don't get overpopulated, more than that is just hard to track and give them space for. Also check to make sure it's legal to own them in your state - they're only allowed in a few.

I posted my chimkens in the other farm games thread. They're the majority of my birbs at the moment but as another anon said, they're overall low maintenance (and can be similarly low income), it's part of why I took the deal on the ostriches, they'll bolster my income pretty significantly.
Also yeah, chickens love perching everywhere they can. It's instinct, here's some chicks doing it at their waterbowl.

You're actively ignoring the point of my statements, likely because they upset you. No one outside of autistic psychopaths from Germany who play forklift simulators wants to return from a day of work that is physically and mentally draining to do more of that work except now you're not even getting any financial gain out of it. The people who play farm sim games are soft-handed city dwellers who can't afford and don't understand the effort required to actually maintain a farm and just want to simulate the highlights.

Tomatoes don't grow all-year round and can't kick coyotes to death while producing eggs that sell for upwards of $120 a pop. Ten ostriches in total, once those bastards grow they're gonna be feathered gold.

Going off of feed requirements, care, etc, the lot of them would be about $1000 a month once they're fully grown. One particularly good week of laying pays for them, meaning the rest of the month is a profit.

Yes, actual food does not cost a lot. Remove meats and you can buy a ton of food for not much. Processed garbage costs extra because they know you will get hooked to it. I cook mostly italian dishes, with some vegan dishes when I do not want to spend too much time cooking, and it does not cost a lot.

        >And are cheerio's cool

I don't see any problem with buy some cereal, is a quick breakfast or dinner if you feel lazy enough to cook. Outside of that, that idiot bought pretty much nothing but sweets, all that money could be well spent on vegetables, pasta, chicken breast, fish and pork to prepare dishes that each one could last him for two whole days. Also replace the oatmilk for regular whole milk which is way cheaper, personally I don't see any reason to not buy cow milk other than wanting it as a novelty.

Watch them pull it out the oven warm? No, but they sell crusty bread looking things that you're supposed to re-bake in the oven.
Normal looking loaf bread put in paper bags and put out? Yes, but they're almost always baked from frozen batards they pluck out of a box that arrived on the delivery van.
It's possible to find small bakeries, but most people only trust NameBrand.

It's not that bad. I work with my girlfriend and her dad in there farm. Not those mega thousands of arce farm just a dozen arches. We raise pigs, and chickens. Worse aspect of the farm isn't the smell but castrating the pigs. After you hear the squealing ring your ears 3 times you get numb, and strong. We don't kill our hens we use them for eggs and give them to friend sand family. Tbh keeping the farm maintained is the hardest part of the job.

It has a time limit, both to get married and for your MC's lifespan. The original version didn't have an endless mode, but the Special Edition rerelease introduced a Heaven Mode that to let you continue farming.

I'm definitely buying Story of Seasons and the RF3 remaster. The aging mechanic in Story of Seasons seems really cool if they do it right.
Harvestella kinda sucks though plus no marriage so that game lost me. I won't be buying the western one with all the blacks in it either. Don't even remember what it was called.

      Anonymous

      >The aging mechanic in Story of Seasons seems really cool if they do it right.
They didn't do a great job with it in the original, although it wasn't too terrible. They might be able to improve it, but the biggest problem with it was that the player dies of old age before many other members of the cast who are older than the player at the start of the game and I don't fosee this being fixed because it would mean killing off half of the town's population and leaving very few people left to interact with in the alter chapters. Theoretically, the town's population could be re-balanced by introducing new characters, but I have my doubts about that happening. Because nips are all spineless cucks, I don't expect that this game will include the long-removed rival pairing mechanic, so your child will most likely be growing up with only the pre-existing two kids in the town, while the other half of the town's population is single people who stay single for the twenty-ish years of the game's duration.

        Anonymous

        >I don't expect that this game will include the long-removed rival pairing mechanic

the first remake didnt get it and I doubt this one will

japs hated the idea of canon romances so they removed it entirely

          Anonymous

As I said, I don't expect it to appear. I only brought it up because the existence of rival pairs and rival children would be a boon to AWL in particular, with it's aging mechanic. The passage of time in AWL would feel more natural if the elderly passed away, the single people coupled up, and there was more than one child born in a time-span of twenty-ish years. There would be massively more room for character development (and setting development) across the town if there were other family units growing alongside yours.
I'll never forgive nips for the removal of rival pairs.

      >aging mechanic
I'm still waiting for the day we get village sim where you're expected to live out more than 1 person's life
like your start with a farmer, you revitalize the town
make friends & start a family
then you ng+ and start as your kid but you take on a different role in the town (like become the blacksmith apprentice and stuff)

if your parent character hit a friendship breakpoint for an NPC, your kid would see a new cutscene involving your parent when you reach the friendship breakpoint
or otherwise demonstrate how the parent changed their life
maybe include cutscenes involving your two parents (i.e. comfy domestic life cutscenes)

No, it's the same for me.
      >AWL remake
Interested. The OG game needed major QOL updates and got them in the PS2 version, which was so poorly coded that it ran like absolute shit. AWL has a great base of an atomospheric town, well-loved cast, and great music, and it has a ton of potential for new content (and inheritance of the DS-exclusive Forget-Me-Not content).
      >Harvestella
Low budget Squareshit. Unironically looks like a mobile game.

RF3 didn't really need a port, imo. If it gets just the same amount of new content as 4 Special got, it won't be enough to entice me to buy it again.

I have zero interest in a game with a multiplayer focus, and still every feature looks half-baked and forgettable.

I don't hate them, but I hate that they latch on to the aesthetic and the lmao comfy farm life :^) craze without respecting what originally made the genre great.

i think the AWL one in particular is a travesty. it's a game with a very particular tone to it and they're really just fricking it up, absolutely no care for what the original was like.

harvestella looks great though. if it had marriage it'd be the RF game we've been dreaming about for years.

On the most basic level, the colour palette is way, way too bright.

Because it ruins the mellow, muted tone of the game.

Elaborate anon. HM/SoS aren't known for their somber atmospheres and high pace, why is this game the one that should've been muted, what makes it more mellow?

                > HM/SoS aren't known for their somber atmospheres
Yes, they are. It's not my problem that you only play the new, shitty games.

                >why is this game the one that should've been muted
Because that's what the original was like.

                >what makes it more mellow?

Does the AWL remake look.. worse to anyone else? The artstyle looks so much worse than its original. It's one of my favorite Harvest Moon titles yet I find myself not really excited about this. It's.. kind of a bummer actually.

It really sucks that the only game I'm somewhat looking forward to out of this batch is RF3R and that's because there's just so little they can screw up, all they need to do is add more postgame content and if that doesn't happen I'll stick to the original
I fricking wish I could be excited for a new farming game again

Honestly most people like to stay with the farms when they're raised on it. If it wasn't for government interference and a ton of corporatization of modern farming I think a lot of people would try to start farming more. A lot of my friends work seasonally on farms still or took over their family's ranch.

I moved into the wilderness a few years ago but I've become completely disillusioned with this country, the government and even normies make it as hard as they can for a modern person to live off the land and grow or hunt food in every single state. I hate this fricking area and everything it represents now, just a glorified playground for people who can afford to larp in the woods, while the country people who can't afford a new F-450 get driven into cities to live in the pod

Living self-sustainably off the land is a rich-man's lifestyle.
I'm not even joking about this, when you look into it you realize that setting this shit up properly is staggeringly expensive (and it's not super cheap to maintain either).

        Anonymous

Literally how delusional can someone be to think it's not expensive as frick to set up a farm? All the poorgays that own a farm have inherited it.

          Anonymous

It depends, growing food for yourself can be done with minimal means. It's just rather labor intensive. It's not that hard to make some basic planters and grow some simple crops like cabbages and tomatoes and potatoes. People have been sustenance farming for milennia and with modern tools it's easy to overproduce, especially if you create compost out of weeds.

there are fricking africans right now digging around in the dirt making rows of yams and raising chickens who make less than $2 a day

Some off brand sims that I'm looking at but haven't tried yet:
      >Apico
more focus on managing a bee apiary than farming. also has better multiplayer integration
      >Sun Haven

      >Traveller's Rest
more focused than a typical farming sim but it has some farming elements
      >Dinkum
      this space intentionally left blank

      Early Access/Not released yet:
      >Pixelshire
      >World's End Diner

wide but shallow, cute artstyle but not much depth. more of a town management than farming sim.
