Because unless it just happened 5 seconds before encountering him he wouldn't be a small time highway robber any more and if he was too weak/stupid to make use of this gear appropriately someone far more deserving would have swiftly taken it from him. Why wouldn't I? Do you understand how authentically and realistically everything was placed in Morrowind and how stupid and lazy this is by comparison? It's not like giving the bandits glass armor makes them a greater challenge. Nothing in oblivion is a challenge. There was no reason to do this.

Because it’s just a little alternate leveling system that comes with its own fun and clever ways to break it. I don’t care so much if it’s perfect game design but it’s a large really creative system in a game where your character can become so custom overpowered it’s just fun

Because at some point you should be significantly stronger than mere bandits. You are acting like it's not important but this is a critical detail, possibly one of the most important details. 2 years ago

Because the world of TES canonically revolves around the player character, the actual lore states that reality only properly exists when there is a player-type character present and the world is actually some type of Hindu dreamscape revolving around the actions of a few sentient characters. The entire setting is involved in things like this >it’s the most important detail!
Lmao no it really isn’t.
And besides you kill everything you see anyways so I never felt like my guy was weak

I think you are genuinely mentally ill. There are Oblivion gates everywhere, you often run into npcs in the area fighting off Daedra if they spawned within their vicinity. It's not that hard to negotiate that an opportunistic bandit can make off with some treasure during this calamity and choas, be it daedric items from another realm, or equipment from a fallen soldier or hero.
You are probably the same type of moron who screamed and screeched about how bears had copper and silver when you killed them in WoW. Different anon here. Your apologism is pathetic. As he said, Morrowind actually showed you the corpses of dead heroes possessing powerful armor and weapons, Oblivion doesn't cause then the player could TOTALLY imbalance the game by having a sword that does 15 damage instead of 12 6 levels before they're supposed to! It's shocking just how much better Morrowind is than Oblivion. Oblivion's design is practically an insult towards its audience who ate it up like the complete morons they are. Even Todd commented on the game's issues long after release cause he probably felt guilty.

These dungeons are literally resting places of heroes and such.

The bandits have glass armor because they leveled high enough to loot it out of a mundane chest. That's the actual explanation in this piece of shit game. Stop pretending it's something it sure as hell isn't. You shouldn't have to develop an immense schizo head canon for an extremely unlikely reason as to why bandits are geared like royalty. Fricking this. Trying to "find" better alchemy gear in Oblivion is literally impossible for instance. The game decides when you're allowed to have it. It's not in the possession of a powerful alchemist, it's not for sale at the best alchemist in Cyrodiil's shop, it's not in some ancient dangerous wizard tower, it's in a random chest in a random dungeon somewhere, and only when the chest actually decides to spawn alchemy equipment and not some other random leveled item. Baffling that morons defend this shit, but I guess they're just nostalgic and making up excuses anyway.

Skyrim is vastly improved by not leveling, assuming no mods. I don't know about oblivion though. Seems that gimping attributes except through alchemy and enchanting kinda sucks but I never liked doing that anyways. Feels like prepping before the fun.
speed 100
acrobatics 100
my current playthrough i'm running around whacking people with a claymore and zapping them with lightning like palpatine
alchemy is so OP in this game i never run out of magicka even though i'm a stinky redguard
I am playing on PS3 using the Lord star sign for the first time. The regeneration spell that comes with it is better than I expected. I use it before every fight.
Oddly enough I'm almost 30 and this was my first legit RPG after playing fps and platformers as a kid.
I really had no clue what I was doing but my first playthrough was the best. I accidentally made a broken build of a sneaky mage. By the time I was done I could pretty much stay invisible forever until I stabbed someone and killed them in one go. Wherever I was bored I'd just stalk civilians until I could kill them without being caught.
Making spells was fun as frick though. My favorite was going up to one of the towers with npcs, casting a paralyze spell I made and watching them flop down the stairs without hurting them
>breton >light armor >bow >acrobatics and sneak >one handed blunt >dabbles in destruction and restoration >heavy on illusion, alteration, and mysticism >heavy on alchemy and enchantments >op as shit on everything other than escort missions >game still fun because actually role play and set limits on what my character is allowed to do
Unironically the uninstall wizard. I love Morrowind and can stomach Skyrim, but this crap is just the worst Elder Scrolls game I've ever played. No, the DB questline alone can't salvage this mess. Have some Altmer ladies.
the vanilla leveling system is one of those big mysteries in video game history. it's impossible to come up with a scenario that allowed that shit to make it into the final release.
another one is the default keybindings including E for jump and space for use
Did Todd really intend for the way leveling up and level scaling works in this game to be the way it is? It's kind of ridiculous that this game rewards you for selecting skills that you don't use as majors and not specializing lest you will wind up with OP bandits running around that one shot you.
>Did Todd really intend for the way leveling up and level scaling works in this game to be the way it is
No
Skyrim is closer to Todd's vision than oblivion.
The lead designer of oblivion and morrowind left bethesda after it was released to make Kingdoms of Amalur.
Why are you cucks so fricking weak about enemy scaling? You losers talk about ‘being punished for playing’ and literally think it’s a problem to use real stats in the game. Go frick yourselves the game is t hard at all

Guys you realize you’re not supposed to be b***hing for twenty fricking years about how the leveling system is a little unfavorable in whatever game, right? First off, you were uncreative whiners back when you first b***hed, like the game where you can turn completely invisible, boost any stat to max with a spell, and melt people on touch, is somehow fricking persecuting you for needing you to have defense and put out damage. And you think you’re ‘cool’ by crying about this while literally minimizing your character because you’re too scared to deal with shit bigger than a goblin. It’s just pathetic. And the funnier thing is you don’t really care all that much about it either, this is just some lifelong peeve of yours you keep around because you’re a fricking follower who repeats the shit they hear. You’re going to be fricking 80 ranting to somebody else’s grandkids about how in 2006 there was this game you chose not to level in because it made it easier. Get a grip guys
It's fricking amazing compared to the Skyrim Dark Brotherhood though (or any of the Skyrim guilds) so I think people have retroactively heaped praise upon it
>Asking a question about a video game on the video game board in a thread about that video game is reddit spoonfeeding
You're trying really hard to fit in and it isn't working, Black person.
Oh fug. I've not played it in a decade. How does it work?
https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Leveling
The short answer is its a clusterfrick and you really have to pay attention to what skills gain experience, otherwise you will not be able to increase the stats you need to remain viable when you level up and most enemies scale to a degree that makes the game unplayable at a certain point, even if you min/max. Most people recommend downloading a mod of some kind to fix it, or if you just want to go in vanilla be prepared to set down the difficulty slider at a certain point or else you're gonna have a bad time. Unarmed already puts you at a disadvantage since there's no real way to buff the damage beyond strength and unarmed skill, so you'll naturally be weaker than 90% of other builds which can already feel extremely weak.
> otherwise you will not be able to increase the stats you need to remain viable
*bzzt* wrong. You can cause enemies to be overpowered if you make your major skills non combat skills, because their combat level will scale to your non-combat levels if you set it that way. You can always increase damage and level up the rest, you are never unable to level combat enough to beat anything

not him but i completed every questlineand hit level 20ish without any problem on default settings, probably because i have basic motor skills
I always go breton and minmax with insane magic spells and alteration/illusion.
What builds should I do to break away from all these meta techniques while keeping the game fun? Going full warrior seems boring as frick since you're essentially a one trick pony (mash left-click).
Stealth feels super unreliable unless you use chameleon and at that point just use invisibility lol
TES as a whole is overrated, and the people that get super defensive over which game is the best are only like that because it was their first RPG as a child. All of them are decent, and there is good arguments for either 2, 3, 4, or even 5 being the "best" one.
I'll always have a soft spot for oblivion, it was my first open world RPG (not youngshit, just grew up playing other genres). I'll always love it to some extent, but god fricking damn it if every time I go back to play it I don't hate it a little more than the last time. What in the frick were they thinking with oblivion's scaling? Why does every cave/fort/oblivion gate feel fricking identical when they were apparently made by hand? I always remember the soundtrack, the environments, the memes... then I install and have to grapple with the fricking gameplay.
And that mmo style leveling just frick off already. I don't want to sit in the sewers and spam summon skeleton for an hour to earn permission to use other spells, I want to just go play and level normally, but if I do that I wind up leveling extremely slowly and level a bunch of skills I don't want which fricks my stats. There's no way anyone playtested this.
Aw what’s the matter am I gaslighting you now? Seriously the way some of you homosexuals take to conversation, sniveling like this while pretending to be so hard. You’ve got this whole hardass point about how god awful oblivion is, yet when someone talks to you about it you crawl into a corner and cry ‘he’s making it so I’m not even allowed to talk!’, ‘ooh he’s attacking me by disagreeing with me!’. Level scaling is wonky but it’s creative, it’s nice that it’s different, but the problems with it aren’t enough to rage over this huge adventure game you played the frick out of and have tons of fond memories of. You just don’t see it that way because you’re a meme
The guys get a lot of health in the late game, you can use one of plenty of ways to do massive damage to handle it. What’s the problem? Its an odd system but are you going to turn this into twenty years pissed about something you figured out anyways? Is that all you can think of about this entire game?
>Is that all you can think of about this entire game
It is one of many things I dislike about this game, but you can't move past it so I'm going to keep discussing it. A central and inescapable feature of the game that I am constantly reminded of being very bad is a problem.
Pfft you’ve been ‘discussing’ it since 2006, don’t act like you need me an excuse to b***h. Time to get over it, man. You don’t have to like the game but seriously how long are you going to have this same tantrum you had when you were 14? You many decades is it going to irritate you that there’s a fantasy game that got too hard in the late game than you would have liked?
Level scaling makes the game safe and boring. It is bad for the same reason. Oblivion commits pretty hard to being as unengaging and inorganic as possible.
The level scaling is there to keep the gameplay exactly the same throughout the game. The game is the same in the beginning as it is at the end.

I believe it's just an immersion issue, there are only a couple of posters that have trouble with level scaling's difficulty/damage sponges because they're probably moronic

Anonymous
but you dont get it bro, being able to one shot every gay little mob in a dungeon with loot that is level 5 is part of the roleplaying experience
2 years ago
Anonymous
You can still 1 shot shit because your stats will be so inflated through investing points. The level scaling exists because Bethesda games can’t reliably dictate what content you’ll do in what order do to how open-ended the games are.
I do think Oblivion went too far with Minotaurs being more common than rats, but Morrowind, Fallout 3 and Skyrim got the balance right IMO.

>building your character well results in your stat growth outpacing the level scaling anyway
It won't, that's the problem. Your enemies' health pools will increase faster than your damage.

Crits, high damage weapons and perks negate that entirely.

if you get 5 points in your combat skill per level give or take you're fine until 20. then the game throws its best weaponry at you like goldbrand and you shouldn't be leveling past 25-30 anyway, but thats what enchanting and poisons are for

It isn't though because the enemy scaling vastly outpaces your own, especially if you make the mistake of trying to play it like an RPG instead of minmaxing your build around combat stats from the moment you start the game.
I agree but stealth is also completely broken. the fact that you can murder someone when theres only one other person in the room and they wont say anything as long as they didnt see it is absurd. the bottom line is theres no real good way to play bethesda games because they just arent good games in general. stealth is still the best option though, and in the case of oblivion and morrowind, magic as well.
>the fact that you can murder someone when theres only one other person in the room and they wont say anything as long as they didnt see it is absurd
If these games were strictly stealth games, you’d have a point, but they’re RPGs in which stealth is an option. RPGs are often abstractions of gameplay mechanics calculated purely through numbers and formulas.
Having max sneak= being able to kill someone in a room without anyone else realising it. Having low sneak= not being able to do that.
>It only applies to a nearly useless amount of spawns
Morrowind's level scaling is closer to Skyrim than Oblivion.
Oblivion's level scaling means that imps will be completely replaced by ogres and minotaurs in the levelled list at higher levels and minotaurs have scaling health AND scaling damage with no ceiling.
In morrowind higher level means higher tiers of enemies spawning from the levelled list which meant that instead of fighting just a rat, you would be fighting diseased rats and so on.
Because it's actually nuanced in morrowind. A primary complaint about the expacs was that the scaling works EXACTLY like oblivion, which is probably due to the smaller pool of enemies to take from.
Frick you Black folk, am I really going to reinstall Oblivion because of you? I'm a sucker for early and mid 2000's graphics, Oblivion was probably peak
Should I use any mods that make the atmosphere even better or just go full vanilla?
I feel that Fallout 3 is Bethesda’s best use of level scaling. Higher levels mean random encounters are more likely to spawn high level enemies, but enemy types in dungeons remain consistent and don’t have any “bandits wearing Ebony Armour” moronation.
Won't read the thread since it's obviously filled with morrowtards who don't like the game and try to derail the thread for some unknown reason
I like to install Oblivion XP, Enhanced Economy and a couple of bank mods, then try to roleplay as a merchant.
Basically it's just a "enchant everything with massive amounts of money" build and create a varied arsenal of weapons and armour.
Is this the UGLIEST game ever made? Between the environment, the characters and the items, I can’t think of one part of this game that isn’t like the worst version of the most generic shit ever put into a piece of entertainment. It’s unbelievable how fricking ugly everything about this experience is.
Crusader relying on magick for short bursts of stat buffs. Doing shit like +100 strength for a few seconds to get some hits in with a mace/athletics for speed and then recast. That particular playthrough I RPd that the relics of Pelinal were slowly taking over my char's essence, and that he was losing his personality the more he used them, and I had a mod to make his hair more white as time went on(I know it sounds cringe, but it was kino at the time). I also had that Revelation mod, it fit in nicely into the RP, although its really fanciful.
>Anything I need to know going in making a battlemage blind?
I don't know if battlemage is just melee+magic hybrid or explicitly melee+destruction, but you don't really need to know anything.
Alteration, Restoration and Destruction fit well with melee weapons. Conjuration makes the game too easy imo because it takes the aggro off the enemies. The rest of the schools are cool and would recommend to explore them a bit if this is your first playthrough.
>Also, does the game "need" any mods? I'm planning on playing the GOG version.
As you may have noticed reading this thread, level scaling can make the game a borefest when you reach two-digit levels, so you have two options: read a guide on efficient leveling, or mod the shit out of the leveling system (there are mods that get rid of the level scaling iirc but I've never tried them)
The Uninstall Wizard
This, and then I install Daggerfall instead
this and then uninstall that too because every TES game is shit
its really funny that people pretend daggerfall was good
very clever anon, i laughed my dick off.
/thread
Whether you play Daggerfall, Morrowind or Skyrim, it's time better spent.
lame.
slightly less lame.
It's a shit RPG and a shit game
This is the only correct option, anything else and you're a brain damaged nostalgiagay, who seem to be quite prevalent nowadays if this thread is any indication.
>Speed: 100
>Athletics: 100
>Acrobatics: 100
>Light Armor: 100
Zero fricks given to anything else. Time to game
Illusion and conjuration are the best.
None. The game is shit.
The worst in the mainline series by far.
It's actually the best one right after Morrowind
Nah.
Skyrim = Morrowind > Daggerfall > Oblivion.
>Skyrim = Morrowind
Get the FRICK off of these boards and never come back, you stupid bed-shitter.
This would be a moronic statement even if Skyrim didn't exist.
>oblivion
>builds
oops, you ran too much! start over
The obsession gays like you have for playing "optimally" has ruined modern games
Look, the game's difficulty scaling is fricked. If you don't optimize, you get fricked around mid-game. It's not even fun optimization like Morrowind, it's just tedious.
As if the game is ever hard. Get a grip you tryhard.
>Fight 5 wolves at the same time, bare fisted.
>Go to sleep in near by hut.
>Gratz on level 6!
>Step outside.
>Get one shot by rat.
Why would you put athletics as a main skill?
Conjuration makes it pretty easy because your conjured demons scale with difficulty, so you can loot or something while that thing fights for you.
me because i like moving fast. i also select acrobatics and security
buy a horse, get it some armor, keep track of your skills
Frick off
who selects athletics?
Look at this homosexual who has to min/max fricking oblivion of all things
>not just picking a safe major or two to control later levels and naturally leveling using your primary combat skill as a major also so that you keep up with the scaled enemies up to level 15
>thinking you need anything other than +3 gains (attributes barely matter over skill level)
ngmi
Heavy armor
Shield + sword
Restoration
Lightning spells
Paladin baby
The insomniac build where I never sleep so that my unique weapon doesn't become trash against basic mobs and immersion isn't ruined as bandits have armour worth more than my house.
>back when you could still make custom spells
>back when physics were groundbreaking at the time
>back when I would lap up licensed shovelware games so this shit kicked my ass
let me go back
I want to smack goblins with my weapon that hits like a wet fish
>armorer
>heavy armor
>blunt
>builds
you never level up at all
this but unironically
You ruin your own game by doing this. Play it as intended, buckos. Levels 1-4 are meant to be a tutorial, not a mainstay.
I finished the main quest at level 3 just by playing normally.
YOU PLAYED WRONG.
>lock yourself out of half the game's content
>wtf why does this game suck?!?
>play as intended
>gets one shot by literally anything
the best move is not to play
or just mix max but its annoying to not jump and run so you don't accidentally level up non endurance stat
just reduce the difficulty, why is this so hard for people?
then whats the difference between never leveling up and reducing difficulty?
You get to use more spells and shit, change up your playstyle slightly by leveling up.
eh
its usually the same shit but deals more damage and costs even more mana
and aoe is worthless in these games since enemies dont clamp up so much
Leveling up increasing the loot quality and enemy variety throughout the entire world you numbskull
yeah that the point
i don't want to see bandits in glass armor
Why? I honestly doubt you have any fricking sense about this and are just repeating what other people have said. I mean listen to yourself,
if a dude can afford himself glass or dendric armor he doesn't need to be a bandit anymore
it just moronic
Oblivion just invaded Nirn. Maybe the bandit found it on a corpse of a hero that died fighting daedra, but just enjoys the bandit life?
Alternatively, maybe he is a known wanted criminal and can't step foot inside a town anyway, but still needs coppers so decided to use the special armor to be a better bandit
Bandits are outlaws, they don’t get a part time banditing job and then buy an apartment in the Royal capital when they’ve saved up, and who fricking cares anyways? There is no way this is an authentic lore complaint, it’s just a symbol of this 16 year old fricking talking point all of you spazzes took too far. Yeah the scaling is odd, the game has this alternative leveling system that’s unique for the genre but can be wonky. So what. It’s just an odd thing about a really memorable old game we all spent hundreds of hours on, but you hotheads can’t leave well enough alone and because people would comment on it almost twenty years ago, you think it’s your big fricking important mission to just act as offended as possible and not shut the frick up like ‘oh this guy seems like his armor is nice enough he shouldn’t have to do this’ is supposed to be some searing fricking issue. You are in a habit repeating shit you remember from 16years ago, and you’ve been holding on to this complaint for so long you haven’t even noticed it doesn’t fricking matter. Fricking hundreds of hours spent exploring and participating in this awesome and creative fantasy setting, and your fricking thought is ‘frick this if you level up enough the bandits seem overdressed’, go frick yourself
I examined this post in its entirety and I do say, it is based.
Shit-eating tasteless toddcuck detected, level scaling is a lazy garbage solution for a lazy moronic dev that doesn't want to properly balance game zones. Frick you and frick Oblivion.
You are so obsessed with Todd fricking Howard, just because of an old meme, that you are literally pretending to be assblasted by an overdressed thief. You have been doing this for sixteen fricking years, it’s time to pull your head out of your ass and stop revolving your memories and experiences around the possibility of saying something nasty about a dev
>no arguments
Good, you're getting there. Now admit that Oblivion's level-scaling system is trash and so is half of its features, like Radiant AI and character creation, and you may actually get on the path of understanding good game design.
It’s a sloppy buggy game held together by spit and glue, full of cancelled and mismanaged features, and we all played the frick out of it for hundreds of hours each enjoying and screwing with it for exactly the massive bizarre fantasy game it is. Game is fun as frick, everybody knows all the bugs and most of us all had a great time. Cut the shit tryhard
>you can't criticize this shit game because I had fun playing it!
Frick off
You can criticize the game all you want, you should just be less mentally ill and not overwrite your entire memory of this game with some fontleroy complaint about the dress on the bad guys later in the game. Is this how you approach everything? Do you just chalk up all your memories to the most annoying thing you can remember? How many games have you played hundreds of hours on yet your prevailing memory is when you got irritated at the 160th hour? How the frick are you still complaining about level scaling in oblivion like it’s such an attack on you? Have some sensibility for fricks sake
Also
>w-w-what are you saying I’m not even ALLOWED TO TALK?!
Grow the frick up you absolute pussy
>In a game that takes over a hundred hours to fully experience, I'm going to laser-in on a few bad things about it and ignore any good that it has.
Sad. Oblivion is one of the comfiest games ever made. It's still a fun game to make a new character in and just go journeying somewhere. The music and the ambience carry the experience.
It SUCKS if you are a min/max gay autist. Even in a fricking SINGLE PLAYER GAME. morons like this ruin MMOs for other people so I guess it's good if you ruin single player games for yourself as well.
I spent most of my play time just exploring and enjoying the scenery of the land. Loved the forest and coming across a random unicorn and unexpected minitours
Anvil home quest was fun. Exorcizing the ghost to claim your prize
>Bandits are outlaws, they don’t get a part time banditing job and then buy an apartment in the Royal capital when they’ve saved up, and who fricking cares anyways?
They wouldn't be mere goons if they are walking around better equipped than a warlord, moronbro.
>hundreds of hours
No, I wasn't a moronic xbox baby so I played it once and moved on.
>bandit happens upon a closed Oblivion gate.
>finds daedric equipment
>decides to use it as a bandit
What's wrong with this?
Because unless it just happened 5 seconds before encountering him he wouldn't be a small time highway robber any more and if he was too weak/stupid to make use of this gear appropriately someone far more deserving would have swiftly taken it from him. Hell, you could make a whole quest line detailing this scenario that would be 100x more interesting than anything that happens in Oblivion, that's how odd and unlikely of a situation this would be.
What do you mean, like why don’t the bandits with the armor take over a nearby town? Sure more events would have been nice but this complaint is so slight, there is no way you authentically feel that offended by it.
>there is no way you authentically feel that offended by it.
This doesn't address anything I've said in my post. Either answer appropriately or stop replying and wasting my time.
It’s just not that offensive
Game isn’t as good as morrowind but it’s a pretty great time. The world gets more powerful and darker as you go along, so what if the bandits have armor
>so what if the bandits have armor
Because at some point you should be significantly stronger than mere bandits. You are acting like it's not important but this is a critical detail, possibly one of the most important details. Why do oblivion gates have the same level of difficulty as bandit camps? Do you understand how stupid this is?
Because the world of TES canonically revolves around the player character, the actual lore states that reality only properly exists when there is a player-type character present and the world is actually some type of Hindu dreamscape revolving around the actions of a few sentient characters. The entire setting is involved in things like this
>it’s the most important detail!
Lmao no it really isn’t.
And besides you kill everything you see anyways so I never felt like my guy was weak
And beyond that you can just say the bandits got stronger with time, which is fine too. Nothing to blow a gasket over for almost twenty years
All over, in all the places you get glass armor
>All over, in all the places you get glass armor
Show me the dead hero in full glass armor you can loot. You said it makes sense because bandits could loot glass armor off an adventurer at the oblivion gates. Surely you can do the same.
I’m pretty sure there are bodies with glass armor on them you can collect. I never bought any glass armor, I know you can find it and I figure that’s what bandits do too. And yeah there really are dead armored humans outside of oblivion gates and right inside them
You know that Cyrodiil is currently under invasion by Oblivion, right? Lore wise, there are probably a bunch of dead people everywhere, a lot of dead heroes and daedra alike. It probably makes sense for some random bandit to be carrying a legendary item he happened across.
>too weak/stupid to make use of this gear appropriately someone far more deserving would have swiftly taken it from him.
Funny that you say that BECAUSE THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT YOUR CHARACTER DOES
>Lore wise, there are probably a bunch of dead people everywhere, a lot of dead heroes and daedra alike.
But there isn't. Even though Morrowind actually did this, you don't see this here. No, headcanon is not an excuse.
>But there isn't.
Are you moronic?
Where are the dead heroes in full glass armor? Did you even read my post or did you just shit your pants?
I think you are genuinely mentally ill. There are Oblivion gates everywhere, you often run into npcs in the area fighting off Daedra if they spawned within their vicinity. It's not that hard to negotiate that an opportunistic bandit can make off with some treasure during this calamity and choas, be it daedric items from another realm, or equipment from a fallen soldier or hero.
You are probably the same type of moron who screamed and screeched about how bears had copper and silver when you killed them in WoW. A simple explanation is "Well, the bear is near a road travelled by many. He probably attacked and ate someone who was carrying silver on his person and it was in its digestive tract."
>NO. YOU CAN'T SAY THAT. THAT IS NOT IN THE LORE. YOU CAN'T JUST MAKE THAT ESTABLISHMENT. THERE IS NO QUEST THAT SAYS IT. THE DEVS FRICKED UP. THAT IS THE ONLY EXPLANATION.
I think you have RAGING autism and probably a few other mental illnesses to go along with it.
Why are you dodging the question?
I haven't dodged anything. I think you have mental illness.
I asked a simple question and you did not answer it.
I did answer it, but I think you have mental illness.
There’s corpses all over the place, and treasure too. Where are you getting your loot? What the frick is this thing where you’re acting like there’s no loot in the game?
Game is fairy sloppy but nothing to be offended over
Don't reply to posts if you're not going to read the reply chain you dumb Black person
Yeah haha the idea that there are no corpses near oblivion gates and there’s no way any bandit could collect any loot from this world that basically has an elven reliquary for a basement and has portals to hell. Yes they have bodies near them with armor on them, so you think the gates don’t? Fricking go to Kvatch for example there’s bodies everywhere
No one ever said "oblivion doesn't have corpses/loot" you moron, stop being moronic or trying to create a strawman or whatever the frick you're doing
That’s what the reply chain is about. That there’s no way these bandits could get this gear because there’s no place they would logically collect it. There’s plenty of places, plenty of pre-looted bodies, plenty of reason why these ancient elven ruins and dead soldiers would have good gear other enemies could loot, what’s the big idea? These dungeons are literally resting places of heroes and such.
The bandits have glass armor because they leveled high enough to loot it out of a mundane chest. That's the actual explanation in this piece of shit game. Stop pretending it's something it sure as hell isn't. You shouldn't have to develop an immense schizo head canon for an extremely unlikely reason as to why bandits are geared like royalty. What the frick is he gunna do, collect 100 gold tolls along the road while wearing 200k gold worth of armor? Just stop man.
>immense schizo head canon
The bandits loot the armor from the same places you do. Simple
So they have it for a completely nonsensical unimmersive video game reason, got it. Not sure why you argued in the first place, as that was the initial point.
>the enemies in the game can find the same loot you do, the way you do
How utterly nonsensical!
>the bandit hit the correct level for loot to appear so he wears that now
Yeah they got stronger so now have access to better gear
>there's plenty of places the bandits could get their loot like the bodies which are always conveniently pre-looted before you find them
Come on now
>or how about they get glass items at at the same time every tomb gets glass items at level 15 cause of the shit scaling
This isn't even what the original discussion was about, but even then Oblivion still looks like a shit game. Enemies and locations don't have good items because they should, they have good items because the level scaling said they should. It's soulless non-design that only an absolute fricking idiot could sit here and defend.
The level scaling system represents the higher level items and enemies always having been there. The later dungeons and enemies you encounter ‘become’ higher levels just like any other game has higher level things later in the game. But it doesn’t really mean the loot in the chests transformed
Holy fricking cope. It's just shit design to coddle newbies to RPGs.
An increasingly stronger identical glass mace that's unique to all the others in the game? Now I know you're just trolling. Last (You) from me.
Like a magical item that scales to your level you mean?
Here defend this moron https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Burz%27s_Glass_Mace
It's a glass mace that spawns at level 1 so the human failures at bethesda decided they'd make its paltry damage level scaled so the player can't possibly get a barely decent weapon earlier than they should. What's your dumbass head canon excuse for this one? He finds a new slightly less shitty glass mace every time you hit a new level bracket?
Yeah you find increasingly strong weapons as you go on, just like any other game
>just like any other game
Most open world games do not do that. You have to take on seek out and complete greater challenges to acquire greater gear. That's what gated progression is. That's what actual good game design is.
>clear a dungeon
>get level 2 and some level 2 loot
>clear another dungeon
>get level 3 and some level 3 loot
What’s the problem
>I want to try and conquer a dungeon before the innovative Bethesda™ Loot and Enemy Scaling For a Bigger Game World With Less Effort System™ says I'm a high enough level to
>Oh wait I can't because every dungeon is currently tied to my level due to the innovative Bethesda™ Loot and Enemy Scaling For a Bigger Game World With Less Effort System™
Because it's an open world game. You are supposed to find the challenge. There are no organic player driven quests to find better gear because everything is spoonfed to you. You'll never fight a tougher opponent because his gear looks good. You'll never see an awesome piece of gear worth stealing. This is what it means when people say "movie game." Brain goes off, just run from one way point to the other. You aren't playing a game. Nothing you do was your decision. Do you understand?
You find all sorts of useful enchantments and spells and can make your own on any weapon
That has nothing to do with what I just posted.
Baffling that morons defend this shit, but I guess they're just nostalgic and making up excuses anyway.
>bandits kill traveling merchants
>equips their high tier weapons and armor
They’re just guys who hang out outside because they’d have to kill the entire imperial police force to hang out in a city, they find armor. And again who cares? The mechanical issue is the actual scaling, which is wonky but pretty interesting. As if everyone here didn’t handle it just fine, like the main character doesn’t have the most overpowered potential out of like any game
Totally that anon, it makes no sense for a lowly bandit to have access to gear that is valuable enough to live in luxury for several centuries. It should be common sense why it is bad.
Why? I honestly doubt you have any fricking sense about this and are just repeating what other people have said. I mean listen to yourself, ‘I don’t want to see bandits in glass armor’, how the frick is that supposed to persuasive or have any sway anywhere?
Is this some sort of weird gaslighting technique?
>Leveling up increasing the loot quality and enemy variety
does the opposite
at high level you're only going to be fighting minotaurs and minotaur lords while enemy HP pools completely outclass your weapon quality
Magic and enchantment are limitless. You can coerce the enemies and paralyze them and turn invisible and give them every disability in touch/strike. You have options, when you’ve maxed out your profession levels it’s all fair
>Magic and enchantment are limitless
so you getting funneled into magic is variety to you?
oblivionkeks lmao
Enchantments and special weapons too, dumbass. But yeah being that it’s one of the most robust customizable magic systems in video games it’s a pretty great time and a main reason to play the game
Magic alone is more varied than every other build combined.
Cooler loot, cooler enemies, better battles, more magic, more stuff, more gameplay, more variety, idk mang, wtf would you be satisfied killing scamps and not doing battle with real Daedra?
Skyrim is vastly improved by not leveling, assuming no mods. I don't know about oblivion though. Seems that gimping attributes except through alchemy and enchanting kinda sucks but I never liked doing that anyways. Feels like prepping before the fun.
I like speccing into Uninstall Wizard, and then start leveling the Install Morrowind tree
atronach breton with alchemy and a frick load of flax seeds
the "whatever the frick I want" build
this was the non-atronach trial run, next time I play oblivion will be full power
how does atronach work? Must be insanely annoying to not regen mana.
Drink potions.
speed 100
acrobatics 100
my current playthrough i'm running around whacking people with a claymore and zapping them with lightning like palpatine
alchemy is so OP in this game i never run out of magicka even though i'm a stinky redguard
I am playing on PS3 using the Lord star sign for the first time. The regeneration spell that comes with it is better than I expected. I use it before every fight.
sneak chameleon one handed
Nord warrior with claymore and 100 acrobatics+100 athletics
blood monk
Apprentice High Elf and hope I don't get fingered by lightning spells
100% chameleon
fapping to spider daedra
Big tiddy Argonian bawd.
Stealth archer
I remember building for Hand-to-Hand and Sneak a couple of times. Think that's the most fun I've ever had in this game.
>looking at the couple sparring outside the arena raises your H2H
>looking at the blades training in cloud ruler raises your block
AIEEEEE
Wait... really? Because that's some fricking soul right there.
Similar thing in Fallout 3 too, you can watch Brotherhood Initiates sparing in their courtyard for free unarmed points
Does it work infinitely, like spamming weakness spells on yourself or sneaking near a guard?
Oddly enough I'm almost 30 and this was my first legit RPG after playing fps and platformers as a kid.
I really had no clue what I was doing but my first playthrough was the best. I accidentally made a broken build of a sneaky mage. By the time I was done I could pretty much stay invisible forever until I stabbed someone and killed them in one go. Wherever I was bored I'd just stalk civilians until I could kill them without being caught.
Making spells was fun as frick though. My favorite was going up to one of the towers with npcs, casting a paralyze spell I made and watching them flop down the stairs without hurting them
>Blade
>Acrobatics

All easy to exploit to get as high a level as possible because why not
what is it about the sudden oblivion hate? zoomers trying to feel cool because hating on skyrim is too mainstream now?
> zoomers
im 28 dude
game is just doesn't fricking work if you play it like you suppose to do it
>im 28 dude
Hey there zoomy zoom zoom. Schools about to be session, ain't it? Got yer backpack ready, zoomy?
People have always hated Oblivion here. How new are you?
>breton
>light armor
>bow
>acrobatics and sneak
>one handed blunt
>dabbles in destruction and restoration
>heavy on illusion, alteration, and mysticism
>heavy on alchemy and enchantments
>op as shit on everything other than escort missions
>game still fun because actually role play and set limits on what my character is allowed to do
Unironically the uninstall wizard. I love Morrowind and can stomach Skyrim, but this crap is just the worst Elder Scrolls game I've ever played. No, the DB questline alone can't salvage this mess. Have some Altmer ladies.
Don't you end up becoming the Everything-build in that game?
Anyway, I loved it.
>Makes your game actually enjoyable.
the vanilla leveling system is one of those big mysteries in video game history. it's impossible to come up with a scenario that allowed that shit to make it into the final release.
another one is the default keybindings including E for jump and space for use
Did Todd really intend for the way leveling up and level scaling works in this game to be the way it is? It's kind of ridiculous that this game rewards you for selecting skills that you don't use as majors and not specializing lest you will wind up with OP bandits running around that one shot you.
>Did Todd really intend for the way leveling up and level scaling works in this game to be the way it is
No
Skyrim is closer to Todd's vision than oblivion.
The lead designer of oblivion and morrowind left bethesda after it was released to make Kingdoms of Amalur.
>Kingdoms of Amalur
Hope they stay gone then.
Why are you cucks so fricking weak about enemy scaling? You losers talk about ‘being punished for playing’ and literally think it’s a problem to use real stats in the game. Go frick yourselves the game is t hard at all
>can cast spells while having your weapon out and not have to do quickswapping bullshit like in skyrim
Battlemage of course
>it’s a ‘holding on to complaints and saying shit you heard from other people literally 16 years ago’ thread
And you know I’m right!
archer sneak thief wizard
Hot take, the dark brotherhood is awful in Oblivion and both the quests and its portrayal is dumb little kid shit.
It's fricking amazing compared to the Skyrim Dark Brotherhood though (or any of the Skyrim guilds) so I think people have retroactively heaped praise upon it
its awful because the homosexual who wrote it was a christcuck and inject his abrahamic moronation into it even when it made zero sense
I played TES2, 3 and 5 but got filtered hard by Oblivion. Is it worth giving it a second chance?
I always liked playing a warrior with conjuration. Two handed, heavy armor, bound weapons, summons. It's fun enough that I carried it into Skyrim too.
I'm confused but I also have a stiffy at the moment.
>implying you can make any sort of 'build' in oblivion that isn't just whacking something with a sword
What a shitty, broken game
SOVL
Comfy
Greetings, Citizen.
I want to play as a monk. what are suggested builds for this?
If you don't understand oblivion's leveling system do not play unarmed.
Oh fug. I've not played it in a decade. How does it work?
>How does it work?
>spoon feed me
Try asking reddit, newfriend.
>Asking a question about a video game on the video game board in a thread about that video game is reddit spoonfeeding
You're trying really hard to fit in and it isn't working, Black person.
https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Leveling
>This guy genuinely thinks oblivion's level scaling is ok and enjoyable
Yeah all you have to do is figure out one of plenty of ways to do damage, oh no. You’re straight up lying and probably believe your own bullshit though that you can be softlocked out of anything in the game. You literally still don’t get how the leveling system works and you’ve been b***hing about it this long?
>STILL defending oblivion's level scaling
I can't even imagine having such low IQ while still being able to live autonomously, I hope scientists study you some day
not him but i completed every questlineand hit level 20ish without any problem on default settings, probably because i have basic motor skills
Could run a spell blade. Mysticism, Alteration, Illusion, Stealth, Acrobat, Athletics Light Armor, One hand?
One build I would like to make is a manipulator just stealth and shoot frenzy at enemies to just back stab the last survivor
Or samurai build?
Is there a multiplayer version of Oblivion. Would be fun to play this game with a buddy.
i know morrowind online was a thing for a while. How dead it is now i dunno
>Try asking reddit, newfriend.
TES as a whole is overrated, and the people that get super defensive over which game is the best are only like that because it was their first RPG as a child. All of them are decent, and there is good arguments for either 2, 3, 4, or even 5 being the "best" one.
Certainly not picrel
>pick acrobatics and jump constantly
literally me
I'll always have a soft spot for oblivion, it was my first open world RPG (not youngshit, just grew up playing other genres).
There's no way anyone playtested this.
>criticize gameplay mechanic
>you are mentally ill, just shut your brain off
Aw what’s the matter am I gaslighting you now? Seriously the way some of you homosexuals take to conversation, sniveling like this while pretending to be so hard. You’ve got this whole hardass point about how god awful oblivion is, yet when someone talks to you about it you crawl into a corner and cry ‘he’s making it so I’m not even allowed to talk!’, ‘ooh he’s attacking me by disagreeing with me!’. Level scaling is wonky but it’s creative, it’s nice that it’s different, but the problems with it aren’t enough to rage over this huge adventure game you played the frick out of and have tons of fond memories of. You just don’t see it that way because you’re a meme
>giant schizo text wall with nothing regarding the gameplay
>calling others mentally I'll
Yeah I dunno anon
If your anal about graphics since it is an old game I would recommend getting ENB Series for it
damage sponge the game
Anyone who thinks weapon degradation is a good mechanic needs to die. This goes for any game with it.
>any feature that makes me uncomfortable is bad
why not just watch a movie then
Are you the same guy furiously defending the level scaling in this thread? Sincerely hope you get help. I mean that.
Level scaling makes the game safe and boring. It is bad for the same reason. Oblivion commits pretty hard to being as unengaging and inorganic as possible.
>Oblivion's level scaling makes the game safe
ok so you've never played oblivion, disregarding your future posts
The level scaling is there to keep the gameplay exactly the same throughout the game. The game is the same in the beginning as it is at the end.
Yeah except it changes what enemies you’re fighting and what they do lol
>and what they do
I wish.
Yeah except it changes what enemies you’re fighting and what they do lol
You forgot to wipe out your reply box when you went back to your phone, oblivion schizo-kun.
My headcanon is that nickies has gone insane and just samegays all day.
How am I the schizo? I just like the huge inventive magic system and figured out the tons of ways to deal enough damage to kill maxed out enemies, and enjoy the huge world full of cool shit and memorable stuff to do. I’m not sixteen years into seething about overdressed bandits and how it’s unfair you have to enchant your weapons with one of the best enchanting system in history because it’s the game ‘forcing you to’ or some shit
Anon, you just got caught samegayging. Its a bit late. Have a sage.
I reposted twice due to a connection issue, cut the shit
I never saw why people complained about level scaling when building your character well results in your stat growth outpacing the level scaling anyway. The scaling is just to ensure you’re not fighting early game mobs for early game loot when you’re a high level.
I believe it's just an immersion issue, there are only a couple of posters that have trouble with level scaling's difficulty/damage sponges because they're probably moronic
but you dont get it bro, being able to one shot every gay little mob in a dungeon with loot that is level 5 is part of the roleplaying experience
The objective best way to play any Bethesda game is as a stealth build.
It’s the most fun, has some of the best quests tied to the playstyle, and encourages kleptomania.
Morrowind applies the same scaling as Oblivion to creatures, so why isn't it a problem in that game?
>Morrowind applies the same scaling as Oblivion to creatures
it doesn't
It only applies to a nearly useless amount of spawns, Oblivion gets to the point minotaurs are more common than rats
>I'm a sucker for early and mid 2000's graphics, Oblivion was probably peak
What? No it wasn't. Not even close.
I feel that Fallout 3 is Bethesda’s best use of level scaling. Higher levels mean random encounters are more likely to spawn high level enemies, but enemy types in dungeons remain consistent and don’t have any “bandits wearing Ebony Armour” moronation.
>Skyrim
bland and mediocre
>Daggerfall
old, but gold
>Morrowind
isn't fun without either nostalgia or knowledge of exploits
>Oblivion
comfy jank
>Morrowind
>isn't fun without either nostalgia or knowledge of exploits
Literally the opposite, it's less fun with a knowledge of exploits
Illusion. starts very tough but by the end it trivializes almost everything. illusion build in skyrim is great too
Crusader relying on magick for short bursts of stat buffs.
Pure mage. Do collector statues until 15-17 to get a pimped out paralyze mage guild staff then continue to archmage.
otherwise orc warrior with volendrung
If you rank Skyrim above Oblivion, you're not only wrong, you're stupid.
I prefer Skyrim’s atmosphere and less janky gameplay, but there are aspects I prefer about Oblivion too.
In the end I think the strengths and weaknesses of each game cancel eachother out to the point that they’re about equal.
Illusion and Alteration thief that tries to avoid combat if possible
Can I just be a sword/shield warrior chad? Or should I do battlemage?
Battlemage is more fun, but orc warriors are broken in Oblivion with their magicka resistance and great stats
Anything I need to know going in making a battlemage blind?
Also, does the game "need" any mods? I'm planning on playing the GOG version.
The unofficial patch like always, and for oblivion also at least the "level up attribute modifiers are always +5" mod
As you may have noticed reading this thread, level scaling can make the game a borefest when you reach two-digit levels, so you have two options: read a guide on efficient leveling, or mod the shit out of the leveling system (there are mods that get rid of the level scaling iirc but I've never tried them)
Uhh click button and automatically win is usually my strategy
The OP isn't even asking to discuss if Oblivion is a good game or not, why is every thread like this? I really don't get it.
Because oblivion doesn't have builds.
?
Because spazzes can’t even hear about the game without going apeshit they had to figure out damage output at max level
>builds
haha, what? everything to 100
>playstyles
single blade plus various magics in left hand
