Crazy XIgays would literally hunt Yoshi-P down and behead him if he was responsible for a massive influx of XIVgays invading their game.

They’d just quit after a month. Imagine they’re doing a mythic weapon… motherfrickers from ffxiv couldn’t even be bothered to become captain in assault to start the whole shabang.

I can confirm this. I love FFXIV and I don't mind grinding. But I have my limits...plus they don't have a weapon for DRK which is my main. If people have to autism to get the gear power to them. To be honest as well I sincerely doubt people would swap off of FFXIV entirely barring a summergay esqe influx. MMOs tend to be a commitment and frankly even an ezpz one like FFXIV will become more of a habit then a choice. Remember how long it took even people who hated Blizzard to quit? Much less the normalgays who just turned their brains off even though the content was objectively bad. Unless FFIX is such an amazing mmo that it cures cancer and manifests a person's waifu in reality no one is gonna completely jump ship. Hell even the WoWgays didn't completely stick to FFXIV and just dropped off mmos altogether.

You wot? XI has no less than 4 ultimate weapons for DRK. And they added a new one recently.

Two relics, one mythic, two empyreans, an aeonic, and now two prime weapons. DRK has a silly amount of ultimate weapons.

The only thing that filters me about XI is the controls and menus. I really like the structure of the game and the longass quests and level grinding. It's so much better than spamming dungeon queues

It's easy with bg-wiki in the background giving you the walkthroughs and which quests to do when. Considering most of the quests give you zero guidance, and "asking people where to go" isn't gameplay no matter how much boomers insist it is, that's the optimal way to play.

Wasting your life grinding over meaningless shit is why you homosexuals are depressed all the time. You will come to realise it means nothing and you wasted your life when you could have spent it doing so many more productive, enjoyable things.

20th Anniversary Development Team Reddit AMA Summary
      >Would you be willing to consider bundling XI + XIV subs again, like they were during XIV 1.0? Even if it was a slightly more expensive subscription, I think that would allow more XIV players to try the game with minimal inconvenience to them.
A: We would like to consider this for the future.

as someone who plays both and has two characters in endgame in XI and XIV, new players would be EXTREMELY good for XI.
Anything not high level for crafting doesn't exists, nobody uses the marketboards anymore, and there's nobody to do low-level BCNMs with.

they wouldnt give a shit at all I'd imagine. what are they are gonna do? fill up the dead content that no one does in the game? it would be nice doing not end game content with people instead of trusts.

Square Enix doesn't care. The SaGa series is somehow still alive, Valkyrie and Star Ocean got a second chance, and they somehow afforded to get Go Shiina to do the OST for a DoA farming game. I've given up on understanding how Square works. Like, they pulled Ito our of the janitor closet and let him make a 40 dollar rpg that probably sold like complete garbage. Why did they do that???

On the contrary. Game sold well since it was supposed to be an anniversary title. It was then ported to everything else and given a decent expansion. Also considering the first game's script was already said to be finished years ago, I expected it to come out sooner or later

I guess it depends on the game's budget. And not to mention, their strategy with these "budget" titles is "sharing" dev cost with other studios (said in their financial reports).

This mean that Strangers of Paradise has a chance at a sequel?

Probably. They wouldn't tease The Emperor for no reason wouldn't they? I'd be pretty cool if SoP is turned into a Dissidia esque game (narrative wise) while the Dissidia games are designed towards e-sports shit.

It says rework not remake. In the New Years greeting blog on the FFXI website, they said they'd be reworking FFXI to be more comfortable for new players. So this tracks. The beginning of XI is incomprehensible, making it more accessible to newcomers is the first step.

XI also sent out a New Years email to players that mentioned the team was "preparing for the transfer to the next generation" or something

So I believe something is going on. They are running out of PS2 devkits to keep it alive on, and I doubt SE wants to lose that reliable cash cow or let a numbered FF become unplayable. They attempted a remake years ago that fell through, but that doesn't mean they don't still want to do one.

The entire lightning trilogy barely sold 11 million units combined, the sequels were more to reuse assets and the engine because they wouldn't have another single player FF ready in time otherwise.

XIII almost sank the entire company because of Luminous Engine
The other 3 XIII games were made in an effort to squeeze Luminous for all it was worth and make up for their massive losses after XIII flopped. Same with Type-0.
The obvious advantage is to keep the XIII team together and just have them keep going with the same workflow they had by the end of XIII's dev cycle, so they wouldn't waste time re-learning anything and just make more product to be sold.

Toriyama clearly has dirty laundry on someone, because he got a big spot on VII:R after almost destroying Square Enix with his stupid bullshit, but I don't think he calls the shots.

XIII was largely a net positive for the company, what are you talking about?

                what is this revisionist history?
XIII was an absolute flop and was received terribly by players
I might have mixed up the names of the engines, but Crystal Tools fricked over BOTH XIII and XIV 1.0 and it was because the XIII team kept fricking around with it trying to make Lightning do the moronic environmental moves she does in the proof of concept trailer.
To this day XIII is the cheapest game in the franchise second only to FFII and FFI ports.
Every single positive review on Steam reads "I know this game has a lot of problems BUT..." , or "I know everyone loves to hate this game BUT..." , or my fav "it starts with 20h of slog tutorial BUT...".
You literally cannot talk about this game without acknowledging how bad it is but homosexuals(actual) on Ganker keep pretending this VII wannabe autoplay garbo was well received.

                moron.
It didn't make that much, certainly didn't make a profit, and day 1 sales are a reflection of how well the marketing department did, not how good the game is.
I bought XIII when it came out, I couldn't have known how the game was without playing it.

The point of their argument was never if 13 was good or bad tho, what fricked square the most at the time was clearly the engine being bad and 14 being a nuclear disaster, regardless of 13 doing well or not. What hindered square for many years was other elements

                Anonymous

and the point of my argument is that the reason those "other elements" went as bad as they did were the unreasonable requests and constant changes demanded by the XIII team which also impacted XIV development since they had to adapt to the changes as well, using the same tools.

                No dude
What fricked 14 1.0 was just terrible management because the devs worked in separated groups without management, so when the game was put together everything was breaking. They also believed they could just copy 11 without evolving anything and it would work again.
13 had nothing to do with 14 being shit, even yoship says that
Now 14 being a disaster stopped the whole company until it was fixed, so at least 2 years

13 is one of the better selling FFs in the series, and it sold well enough to profit almost immediately despite the divisive reception.
Only Lightning Returns saw terrible day one sales, but even it was stated to have sold more than enough to have met expectations.
XIII did not "almost sink the company"; It was a big success even if it is near the bottom in regards to popularity nowadays.
Anything else you have to say is worthless because your entire premise is fabricated bullshit.

Conveniently ignoring that Square Enix did everything they could to inflate XIII sales numbers.
They gave it away almost for free in bundles and christmas packages.
I myself got XIII 4 times, of which only 1 time was on purpose, and I fricking hate that game.
I even own XIII-2 and LR, and I gave away those extra XIII codes they gave me, I think some of them went unclaimed cause everyone had it already.

It's a similar tactic they used to fudge around with LiS sales, they gave Ep1 away to hundreds of thousands and counted each individual ep sales as unique purchases.
Probably less than 100k people bought Ep5 but the game's sales numbers say it sold millions, which is hilarious.
Publicly traded publishing companies have a vested interest in inflating their sales, much like MMO studios have a vested interest in pretending they have tens of millions of players all will do underhanded shit like counting all accounts made as "Active" when 90% of them aren't.

                >XIII almost sank the entire company because of Luminous Engine
Luminous Engine was the engine they used for FFXIII Versus which became FFXV
FFXIII actually uses a completely different engine called Crystal Tools.

What fricked them over was FFXIII being very expensive and using its own engine, Luminous Engine being developed simultaneously and taking a decade to get FFXV out, and FFXIV 1.0 failing and having to spend time and money fixing that shitshow and all of this happening at roughly same time.

It was 14 1.0's failure that nearly sank the company. Granted, they probably shouldn't have tried to reuse Crystal Tools for an MMO.
The ARR project then borrowed all the competent programmers at Squeenix to get the thing out the door in two years, which is why you got two new asset flip 13 sequels and a spinoff game that eventually morphed into 15.

Honestly I don't want them to make a game as good as FF7 at this point. I just want a good game period. No one is gonna top it in this era. They need more talent and better writers. I'd take a comfy fantasy setting game with the odd FF1-6 quirks here and there.

They can't make a game "as good as" FF7, because they can't take the business risks they used to. FF7 was VERY out there and unconventional as a concept, especially for the Western market and would never get approved today. Yet Square put all their fricking eggs in that basket and a shit ton of money and took the gamble. You'll never get that level of confidence in their product again.

As cool as FFXVI looks, it's really just a bunch of really safe and market proven things stuck together. XIV does nothing experimental or ambitious, they just conservatively copy what was already successful either in past FFs or in other MMOs.

I would prefer a new story with a new cast, nothing to do with the original at all. Maybe star an Al Bhed protag who accidentally discovers Dream Zanarkand. Or maybe one of Shinra's descendants building a space travel project.

13-2 was fun, it fixed a few of the battle system issues but not all of them, had some bangers on its ost, had a better mix of light hearted moments and serious ones, and had actual areas to explore again.
like it might not be amazing, not top 5 ff games or anything, but it was definitely enjoyable. still better than any other mainline game they've put out since astonishingly, which just goes to show how terrible squenix have become. if you didn't like 13-2, the series has only plummeted even further off a massive cliff since then in quality design. sure it has more '''quality''' when that means money pumped into it for graphics, but the writing and gameplay have only gotten worse

The After Years was clearly a lazy copypaste "soft reboot" of the original meant to pass the torch to new bland characters while assassinating the classic characters. The After Years is The Force Awakens of Final Fantasy IV.
At least they are aware that the game is blatantly ripping off the original, unlike The Force Awakens.
But, that doesn't excuse them for recycling like 80% of the content from the original.

I wouldnt even say Force Awakens was worse than TAY, at least Force Awakens the leads actually accomplished something, and some of the old cast did things that werent complete fail.

Whereas nothing of value was really accomplished by the newbies until the end, and most the cast jobbed out while only like maybe 4 of them werent being complete idiots for no good reason.

Barret's whole point is how he seeks revenge on shinra(he is right) but also blinded himself with an extremist point of view that ends up thinking that every person that works for shinra is just as evil as them, just to paint his terrorist acts as something necessary. He sees the world as black and white in order to not feel doubt, this is why he has the preachy attitude

He hides his need for revenge behind the saving the planet facade, ignoring how the people that he is bombing are innocent as he once was
This is like thinking that every person that works for Amazon is evil as Bezos, when most people who work for shinra just want to get out of the slums
The remake even talks about this when tifa questions him in the elevator about the innocent people that work for shinra

too many morons treat character development as the be all end all of storytelling when it's just another tool that needs to be used properly.

                Anonymous

Here is the thing, depends on what type of story you want to tell, there is character based stories that evolving your character means that you evolve your plot
FF7 is like that, cloud is the center of many things, his changes and reactions shape those events

And every party member in 7 suffered a huge loss or is dealing with grief in some way. So their development is fundamental for the game

Different than stories like FF12 where many of the games' events arent focused around your main characters

Some of my favorite characters of all time have next to zero development. Conan the Barbarian, Vampire Hunter D, etc.

The problem with "character development" is that where they end up is always more boring than where they started. They always become more reasonable, conservative and level headed, which usually puts an end to their interesting personality quirks and their adventure. I like stories where the characters are more like archetypes that drive a new plot rather than being the plot themselves, if that makes sense.

For me just seems like you enjoy more concepts than characters themselves, and this is fine. The thing that shouldnt happen is lessen any tridimensional character to simply "he does this, that and it ends"

      Anonymous

      Not really a complete reading.
Barret before Kalm is basically suicidal.
You have to understand the context behind his actions, that mainly being that ShinRa has already won and has won overwhelmingly and completely. AVALANCHE has been wiped out already, it's just him, a schizo bomb teenager, a moronic fat dude, Biggs and Tifa.
Bombing a million reactors isn't gonna do anything to the literal world government.
He feels that he deserves death for participating in condemning Kalm to being taken over by ShinRa, and he will get his honorable death in battle no matter who gets caught in the crossfire, including Marlene.

The ending of his arc is the same as every other character in VII, that despite the past being fricked there's still reasons to survive. His reason being Marlene.

I think they were legitimately embarrassed by all the Chaosposting and tried to weakly lean into it leading up to release. Doubt they even mention it after the DLC finishes up

        Anonymous

They weren't embarrassed by it, people misunderstood the reaction and ran with their own guesses. What happened was that they were confused by it and didn't really understand why people were acting like that because it seemed obvious to them that a trailer of "man who wants to kill Chaos goes to Chaos Shrine" will probably have Chaos mentioned more than a few times. But they also considered that since they know the full story and how it ends they're just going to be looking at things differently, and ultimately said something to the effect of "if people have fun with that then go ahead". They even encouraged people to count how many times Chaos gets said in the full game. The trailers after the first were full kino though, especially the last one and even in spite of going full blown spoiler regarding the first twist. Which sort of worked out and shows their confidence in the rest.

It's not his fault, I like Nomura's games.
But to pretend like his success didn't steer the company to the point where now FFXVI is Nioh/Soulsborne is ridiculous. Obviously he made square swerve pretty hard.

Look at XVI, for example. It's directed by Yoshi-P, who is a huge fan of Matsuno games, Tactics, Vagrant Story.
I would type "Vagrant Story 2 when?" in every XIV Live letter cause I knew he wanted to make it, and yet when he does get to make literally Vagrant Story 2 in all but name, he calls up the Capcom boys and has the game be Nioh instead of the cool combat system in Vagrant Story with a little bit of streamlining.
You think that's not because of how successful KH was and how bad XIII was?

FF since 7 was trying to sell itself like a blockbuster, so this doesnt makes any sense
The cinematic approach was getting bigger and bigger with every title

not talking about cinematics, I'm talking about pretending to be an action title like DMC

The shift to action combat wasnt just made because of kh, it was a natural change in the whole industry, most jrpgs couldnt find a way to manage action combat with control of multiple party members, this is why only after the PS2 they startet getting more options
I like turn based games, but people also ignore how it was a style really utilized beause of tech restrictions

                >is not its action combat, but how you can control only one party member
These are one and the same thing. Action games mandate you only control one character, 7r you still control one character regardless of whether you can switch between them or not. Action combat is either 1 char, or reliant on dogshit ai to control 66%+ of your party, and the reality is jrpg players don't like either of these things. They like control of all characters, they like making them do things together, they like putting them all to work to pull of whatever their intended plan or playstyle is as a player. Jrpgs, most rpgs, need to be turn based. There's no two ways around it, and you'll see them either die within the next 1-2 decades or return to being overwhelmingly turn based/atb systems for this exact reason. No amount of shitty trying to appeal to normies will ever work

                >I disagree because i like 7R's combat and think it is the perfect example of mixing the management part of turn based games with action elements,
The combat system is terrible, it's just the worst parts of 13 with less characters, less equipment options, less abilities. Stagger systems are inherently bad, they make all combat go from every action you make being meaningful to 90% of actions you make being brainless and meaningless, serving no purpose other than to build stagger so you can actually do something meaningful for a few seconds.
And you're not even using your whole party to defeat any enemy in 7r, you're constantly just tard wrangling because the ai is garbage. We solved this problem SEVENTEEN YEARS AGO with gambits which allowed you to not have to constantly manually tard wrangle your ai so they actually contribute even remotely.
It's insane that people praise 7rs combat so much because it's honestly almost the worst possible outcome, it would be the worst if 15 didn't exist somehow that was even worse. It has no difficulty, by design it can't have any difficulty because it has to be designed around not tard wrangling every few seconds so that it doesn't drive away normies and worse players from being able to beat it, it has extremely limited options you will not get an enemy skill with 30 different skills in remake, you will not get so many yellow materia that it changes your action menu from one row to three entire rows of abilities, all the cool rpg shit is impossible in an action game.

Not really, many action games let you use multiple characters. Even turn-based games only let you input commands for one character at a time, which is equivalent to switching characters

                >Not really, many action games let you use multiple characters. Even turn-based games only let you input commands for one character at a time, which is equivalent to switching characters
This is a moronic comparison anon. No, it's not 'equivalent'. Controlling every single action made by every single character is infact not equivalent to controlling a small percentage of actions of all characters and relying on ai to control the rest, no matter how much you want to believe it is.
Real fricking easy, lets lay it out. You play a turn based/real atb rpg, you can perform actions in the exact order you want, you get a character to buff, to debuff, to use an item then use an attack all in a specific order - that matters. The first character is available to make an action immediately after you're done, because in atb you can hold their action and in turn based they don't go until the 4th character action has completed. You cannot do this in some shitty ai controlled game, the first character will start doing shit you -did not tell them to do- after they perform the buff you forced them to do. They will not be ready and waiting, they will be fricking shit up and interfering with your strategy. Likewise you cannot perform actions in a specific order, if you do not give a command the ai will do shit instead, forcing your shit out of order or delaying it, so you have to just give them all the order at the same time, which will lead to the things not going off in the correct order. This means shit like tifa attacking without deathblow on or rage not being the last buff applied to give the best outcome in shadow hearts 2.
And these are the things that make playing rpgs fun in the first place, without them it's no longer fun to play.

                I think that's ridiculous.
JRPGs got big in the first place because of FF setting the bar and creating the trend.
Going "ok I guess KH and Dark Souls came out, time to wrap it up" is just cowardly.
Persona is still successful being a JRPG and FF leaving the scene (now formally with XVI) has already left a hole in the genre that indies are scrambling to fill up.

Toriyama clearly thinks JRPGs are fundamentally broken as a genre and keeps coming up with the dumbest shit imaginable to 'fix' them.
Every game he directed is clear proof of this. They're all modern equivalents to FF2 except they're not interesting and they hold your hand for 70% of the game's runtime.

It's not about destroying, it's about taking over cause he thinks he can do it better, he has the key, and clearly he doesn't.
Just look at the Sphere Grid vs the Crystarium. Or the way you manage weapons in XIII. Or all of VII:R's plot.

Not him, the only real movement change was dashing being a little slower when compared to fully upgraded air dash, and that instead of having to do consecutive dashes you could maintain it but with it (and wall running) requiring a bar. It is a little slower directly but it's worth it to make stage positioning actually heavily matter for once, and the game still plays fast. Though if it were truly up to me I would have kept grind rails and the fixed jumps you could do, those really should have stayed especially since in the PSP games they were basically pointless despite how cool they were due to how OP dash was.

Yeah wallruns are fun and they're the one part of Quickmove (I remembered the name) that stayed in NT which is nice, but they really really should have kept the grind and leaps and designed stages around them. As far as I know it's still up, I'm not sure if it ever actually used servers which was part of the netcode issue, but they only said they were finished supporting it update-wise.

They're going to have to do something to migrate the game to a whole new platform though. PS2 hardware is running out, iirc they had to get their last kits donated to them by other developers who still had some working ones.

Without those they can't do shit to the game and it will fall apart bit by bit. They're going to need to "refresh" it and tie it closer to XIV's service to keep that money rolling in.

I don't think they're closing it either. FFXI is pretty cheap to operate all things considered, and they folded the budget into the ffxiv budget anyway. So I really could see a dual subscription at some point. They just need to work out the logistics.
But what's not going to happen is
              A graphical overhaul.
              A new expansion.

Btw having 11 and 14 in one subscription would also help 14 between patch cycles

If the presentation is focused on global announcements, i dont think it would be weird
The kabuki show is cool but not only is super niche but it would also be japan only, the distant worlds orchestra at least has global events

Also I guess they wanted Rinoa to always be good to please the puritan waifugays (just like Rorona is still a virgin in her 40s when she x Sterk made sense), Rinoa actually becoming a monster in the future and Squall choosing to be the Witch Knight going against his Seed principles just because of love is what made their story good

If there is a new 10 project it would be X-3
The devs already talked about it

I can’t believe the same guy who wrote the first two wrote this same crap. It is mind blowing, like what happened to make your quality drop so low. Tidus getting his blown off will never not be hilarious though.

Why? That dissidia gacha adds even the most obscure FF11 character

Dissidia has almost 180 ff characters, and that anon thinks that zenos being in is weird

and the last XIV character added was Lyse, almost four years ago. Since then characters that got in over any of the other major XIV characters include: Rubicante, Ursula, Dorgann, Kadaj, Shelke, Braska, Reks, Llyud, Jihl, every single student from Type-0, Ciaran, Jegran, Enna Kros and half the fricking cast of Stranger of Paradise. If they were going to add another big character they would have done it years ago.

Tbf about the SoP characters. Team Ninja made NT, OO and SoP. The SoP cast are basically their babies/donut-steele OC's.

The fact Rikku from X hasn't gotten in before half the people you listed, is funny though.

I know, but the only situation where it gets too late to add a new 14 character is when 14 closes its servers anon

They don't add characters from Tactics or XIV anymore, only Stranger of Paradise characters and literally whos like Jihl from FFXIII. Tactics and XIV characters also don't recieve FR weapons.

Yeah there just really isn’t. They would have added a Crisis Core character had SE forced them to promote Reunion, Angeal assets were datamines YEARS ago, along with FF9’s Amarant. Nothing has come out of it even if they had assets designed, they just seem to drop thing instantly and move to someone else at the drop of a dime.

I kinda respect the chaotic nature of that team
Making models for SoP's party but not for FF7 and FF10 characters
They just want to have fun

I think it's also they seem to at least have an idea of what stories they want to tell. And what moments of characters interacting they'd wanna do.
I'd argue a lot of the characters who just aren't in, the team can't think of, or don't wanna think of a way to put them in the story they're currently telling.

Yeah it is cool how they put who they want and when they want to work in the plot
It isn't just a game focused in advertising the mainline titles
              It is an actual project

Aye it's clearly a passion project for those working on it. Still having to abide to some of the gacha rules, but the dev team are clearly just fans of the franchise.

Pretty much. If you're just in it for the story, then it's easily accessible.
Past story events tend to be in the Lost Chapters section and Intersecting Wills.
Be warned the game has no issues with spoiling plots of the games characters are from.

That being said, you could roll a character from the gacha, gear them out a bit and basically solo most story content these days

How israelitey is the stamina system?

                Anonymous

They shit out stamina and the story doesn't need stamina iirc.
Only thing that you're locked out of, tends to be group content versions of events if they're up. With a 5 completion stamina/bell system.
But then they also give you sometimes SP versions of the event content to do as well to grind while your group stamina recharges

Nonexistent, Stamina is only for a handful of stage types and the game throws literally hundreds at you. I've never used more than 2-3% of my pots

Rinoa=Ultimecia was always amusing, but never made any sense since Ultimecia was explicitly born in a distant future where she was being hunted by SEED from birth.
