FFXIV is not interested in creating a persistent world, it is just a content delivery pipeline. They have a core base of mechanics and you essentially get a new, simple, story-focused RPG adventure every few months. It's not what we would traditionally describe as an MMO but its very effective at what it does. They don't have to worry about long term balance or retaining subscribers because their model is about wiping a clean slate and getting everyone to resub when new story content drops.

I wish they would put in some of the old quirks from the earlier dungeons into the later ones. Things like using /comfort on someone inflicted with a debuff from the gremlins causes it to resolve, using crystal light in Dzemael to wall to wall pull the first section, etc. Makes it feel like more thought was put into them.

Is there some fricking trick to having fun while playing Tank? I'm almost level 50 as Paladins and like 52 as Warrior and both just play like absolute snorefests.
That's how they play at cap too. They all play the same with the expcetion of gunbreaker which is also kinda shitty to play. The only classes in the game which separate themselves from others is Black Mage, Summoner, and Ninja. The rest are kinda bland, boring, and samey.
PLD is "two role default mits and pray the rest of the time". It's boring as shit and feels like you're just along for the ride for how little you can influence your tanking. WAR on the other hand has four additional things it can do pretty constantly to reduce major damage or recover HP, on top of behaving like a melee DPS.

It has a lot of problems but they decided to focus on, in addition to a subscription, giving the glamour trannies (despite the fact WoW had a universally better system for transmog and content unlocks account wide) new shit to buy all the time instead of unlock in game. All those cosmetics should be available in the game instead of sold a la cart. Yes, WoW is not perfect either but FFXIV is SO much worse with more stuff to buy more frequently and things like repeating holiday event items not being available in-game to unlokc when the holiday comes round and instead you have to pay real money for any "old" holiday stuff etc. It has turned into a monetization shitshow.
There's a lot of other issues, but mainly the game cultivates a "toxic positivity" where anything but "everyone and everything is just so great and friendly and awesome and YOU DONT PAY MY SUBSCRIPTION" criticism is not allowed of other players nor really of the development team. There's also the typical crabs-in-a-bucket "if I had to do so stupid tedious shit years ago, you should need to do it now" garbage.

Ninja's was pretty great. I think it'd just mean slightly less button bloat, I already liked turning the high jump into mirage dive since they can't be used together.
The thing is that I just can't imagine what they can do to make it less bloated. Fang and Claw and Wheeling Thrust might get merged into 1 button, but other than that I just don't know.
If they're going to start removing shit then Life Surge is probably gone, maybe even Lance Charge, who knows. I wouldn't miss Dragonfire Dive though.
The basic rotation loop is fun but honestly outside of that everything else feels tacked on and fairly basic. I wouldn't mind them breaking apart the high jump>mirage dive>geirskogul interaction by getting rid of mirage dive or changing it's interaction. Lance Charge doesn't need to exist and I'd prefer them to adjust Life Surge but I wouldn't mind if it were deleted, adding charges to various skills only made the situation worse.
The main reason why they want to rework it is probably because they can't really do much with the job as it is, they keep throwing individual buttons at it and it's feeling less and less cohesive as time goes on. Might as well streamline it a little and give the job more of a purpose in what it's doing now so you can add on to it in a meaningful way later on.
Last job to get a rework is SMN, it's completely braindead and uninteresting to play now.

Cleric stance at least was a significant loss for an entire role. No more need to think ahead and set up mitigation so you can cut back on stance toggles, no need to distribute lustrate etc. to get around the penalty and min-max damage, and it opened the gate to dumbing down healer dps more and more to the point where you're now just spamming your one damage spell 70-90% of fights.

Any general tips for black mage? I sorta understand the rotation and gave it a shot through Aglaion, but I definitely don't know some of the optimization stuff. Like is it best to shove an OGCD between two casts even if you don't have an instacast (or if the OGCD is the swiftcast/triplecast)? Or is it better to hang on until you instacast something like ice paradox, xenoglossy, or the proc of thunder3/fire3?
And I know it's good to instacast for fire 4/despair since their cast times are longer than recast times, but is it generally going to be even more of a gain using it for movement? Since even best case scenario, triplecast on despair (manafont) > fire 4 > despair is only saving 1.3 seconds and ultra-specific for when you had to use that triplecast (especially if that interrupts things).

I'm like halfway to actual autism in that I'm looking at the numbers and thinking every single rotation posted is under the assumption of never needing to move, ever, with 0 ping, and then going "wait, but it looks like using triplecast there vs anywhere else is only gaining them 0.2 seconds of cast time, why the frick would I not just save it for movement every time then, I'm going to need to move for more than 0.2 seconds sometime"
Hell, from what I know, even using an OGCD after a cast time locks you in animation for 0.7 seconds after the cast is finished.
if you ogcd without an instant cast you will clip, so you should try to avoid it unless it's important. basically you'll want to save your instant casts for when you know you're going to need to weave something, like for sharpcasting, addle, or aetherial manipulation.
the second question is fight dependent. there are times where you'll want to make sure you have triple cast for movement, but if you have it on cd for a minute or something you're kind of wasting dps.

Because the edges have been sanded down so much at this point it's basically impossible for them to frick up. Playing this game feels like walking around a hospital. The banality of the formula makes it feel safe and welcoming to people with 90 iq.

To me the actual answer to this is that xiv doesn't try to reinvent the wheel every expansion like WoW does. It sticks to a very strict formula. Raids are always on the same patches. Alliance raids always on the same patches. So on. It has a formula that everyone who is still playing at this point is aware of and is fine with.

The only thing the game is missing is actually good PvP, but it really does have something for everyone.
Dailies in ffxiv are all optional content that you don't have to do for anything besides collectables, as it should be. There's technically roulettes but those are entirely optional as you can reach the weekly tomestone cap in many different ways.
Also CC is fun, frontline just sucks ass because 3 teams of 24 players means you're completely at the mercy of your randomly assigned allies.

yes, which makes it a button that you aren't moronic for keeping on your bars but it's still boring as frick. every other generic projectile attack on tank/melee has some kind of extra feature but this is just a small bit of damage if you're out of range. in pvp it did more damage the further away you were which would make a fun synergy with the situation you use it in, backflipping out of an aoe and tossing it as you go back in while avoiding any meme roations of dragoons spamming it up close

Not dirt cheap, the good stat ones are at 20k per materia. On patchday when the crafted gear comes out it will jump up to about 40-50k but not for very long. There's a small peak window but will normalize all the way back down so its best not to try and sell all your hundreds of thousands of materia on patchday

It's less that the fight was hard and more that a bunch of absolute shitters wanted to beat it because it gated the ShB dyeable AF gear.
People cannot into Protean style mechanics in PF at all. Any time you'd get a group in that fight (even after iLvl made it easier), they'd all get slaughtered at the triple Protean bait section in the mid-point.
My single favorite PF moron is the one who, when it's time to assign clock positions, insists that he can only go to one specific corner because "that's how he learned it".
My favourite/hated-trend is when you have a fight that only needs one waymark at worst (usually to mark North), but every PF shits out all 8 on the sides/corners of the arena.

It's so garbage that I'm never going to be willing to play SAM in any context other than leveling it to cap for the sake of capping.

XIV has a very strict material budget on meshes. Which is why it's able to run 144hz no prob, unlike GW2 which plummets its framerate if you decide to swing your camera a certain way.

WoW fights weren't hard, they were total bullshit.
WoW raids weren't that hard where an addon was needed, I remember doing WoTLK raids without it, its just using DBM became so widespread people expect you to have it and obey it to the point where even the dev team started building fights around the player using it.
Look you're playing an MMO, you're playing Simon Says no matter what. In a more action driven MMO you're doing it with movement and in a slower sandbox-y MMO you're doing it with boss mechanics and the raid takes four hours.
