No mod they were using was cheating. Everything you see there is what is known in every other MMO as "standard features". The beauty of PC gaming is that when you have a situation like this where a developer can't or won't meet standards, you don't have to put up with it because bet your ass someone will fix the problem for them. YoshiP's not blind or living in a bubble, he knows where the game isn't meeting the mark. It's part of the reason for the whole Fight Club arrangement he's nodded and winked to the players. People get the user addon support they expect, and SE avoids having to develop such frameworks themselves or worry about blowback from console users if there's no way to make it happen with the limits of the hardware.

Makes the fight easier. When you regularly play the game, there's a maximum zoom out, so unless you've got great camera skills you're going to miss visual keys some of the time and blindly follow allies or get blindsided by an attack, especially in ultimates. The player was using a mod that increases the maximum zoom distance so that they can see all the visual cues and therefore take out the skill needed to maintain situational awareness.

It's only "better" by an arbitrary number, and I can tell you a whole host of reason, in every clear why I don't get a 100 and it's all on me and my choices in the fight. I already have that... when the mechanic goes off, If I did it wrong I get fricked and next pull I try to do it right. A plugin would help me do the movement better and would reduce the number of deaths, but I can also just learn the timing with my rotation, learn the visual tells and understand the mechanic to perform it well. We seem to have a different definition of "performance", I'm talking something more intrinsic you're being more literal. These are tools that were developed out of the game. There isn't much that they can do outside of probably putting an anti cheat and we all know how that would go for some people. At best there will be a slap on the wrist and never disbands.
I hate how everyone calls this cheating, cheating is shit like wallhacks or infinite damage hacks. Zooming out your camera and having a hitbox detector isnt cheating, its just QOL
The game already gives you a really grateful zoom camera and plenty of hit box info. If you go in and install something that gives you extra zooming distance it's no different than lets say 3 peaking in destiny 2 with swords.
You might have a point if it was something like noclippy which the JP players wouldn't need anyway since it would do nothing, but a zoomhack is basically the equivalent to a wallhack in an FPS, giving you information that you're not supposed to have.
the more I play reaper the more i'm convinced it's actually secretly one of the most cerebral dps in the game, it has a ton of really small bits of jank and optimization tricks compared to the other non monk melee

Oddly I've found that the best way to get them now is to do spectacularly bad, while still appearing to be trying very hard. I've found a lot of people will give pity or spite commends(kind of like "Good Job!" spam in CC) if you can hit just the right note.

it's a competition. they have a hack that allows them to see tells better. reacting to tells is pretty much the entirety of ffxiv encounter design. do you not see how that provides an advantage? it ruins the competition.

Of course it's cheating. Anyone who has progged Ultimates knows how easy it is to make very simple rotation mistakes when you're progging new mechanics. Especially the final phase of an 18min fight. The only difficulty of the final phases is to keep a clear head, if you can simplify your rotation to a single button it's much easier

What's the difference between NoClippy and Alexander, I hear a lot of people talking about the former but I use the latter instead and keep wondering if I should swap Or are you supposed to use both?
Noclippy is a Dalamud plugin, Alexander is a .dll file. Alexander tends to be updated faster than noclippy since noclippy is dependent on Dalamud while Alexander is standalone and it's very rarely broken by updates (you just have to wait for opcodes to update, which generally happens within an hour or two of patch release).
IIRC Alexander will allow you to triple weave while NoClippy won't.
You have to modify alexander to be able to triple weave without clipping. I still have small clips whenever I accidentally triple weave even on a 2.5s GCD with 0 SS.

The beauty of PC gaming is that when you have a situation like this where a developer can't or won't meet standards, you don't have to put up with it because bet your ass someone will fix the problem for them. When you regularly play the game, there's a maximum zoom out, so unless you've got great camera skills you're going to miss visual keys some of the time and blindly follow allies or get blindsided by an attack, especially in ultimates. The player was using a mod that increases the maximum zoom distance so that they can see all the visual cues and therefore take out the skill needed to maintain situational awareness.

It's only "better" by an arbitrary number, and I can tell you a whole host of reason, in every clear why I don't get a 100 and it's all on me and my choices in the fight. I know the games not perfect but it's not my job to fix it, and I can play with how the game is made now and can play pretty well and again, most importantly: I can have fun.

I already have that... when the mechanic goes off, If I did it wrong I get fricked and next pull I try to do it right. A plugin would help me do the movement better and would reduce the number of deaths, but I can also just learn the timing with my rotation, learn the visual tells and understand the mechanic to perform it well. We seem to have a different definition of "performance", I'm talking something more intrinsic you're being more literal. The problem is you only see the outcome of the fight, it only matters that you win, and that's not why I'm in there.

I've got a blue on my first clears a couple times and I was happy, but mostly I tend to be 50%-ish to 60%-ish percent, which is exactly where I want to be.

My static fell apart this latest tier so I just got the clear with some friends helping me out and then went on break for a bit. Shame because p8sp2 was really fun from what I got to do of it.

Massive burnout and just some players not showing up ready to go (not watching videos before raid, not asking questions where they were confused, etc). You're not wrong on the ease of the tier but p8s is one of those fights where 1 death usually leads to a domino effect of problems so any weak player can wipe the raid.

The only experience I have in cheating is watching people double speak around people spinning monsters in Deep Dungeon as if it's somehow not cheating since it has a failure state.

if done correctly, the monster stops attacking and using abilties completely as it's eternally chasing you. people do it to clear the 180 boss on no-jobstone runs since it's impossible to meet the DPS requirement. otherwise it's just getting free kills/damage
example, it's really easy to do on controller, harder on kb/m

What's the difference between NoClippy and Alexander, I hear a lot of people talking about the former but I use the latter instead and keep wondering if I should swap

IIRC Alexander will allow you to triple weave while NoClippy won't.

noclippy is more convenient since it's on xivlauncher but i think alexander gets updated faster

there is no difference, people like NoClippy since it's baked into Dalamud
Noclippy is a Dalamud plugin, Alexander is a .dll file. Alexander tends to be updated faster than noclippy since noclippy is dependent on Dalamud while Alexander is standalone and it's very rarely broken by updates (you just have to wait for opcodes to update, which generally happens within an hour or two of patch release).
You have to modify alexander to be able to triple weave without clipping. I still have small clips whenever I accidentally triple weave even on a 2.5s GCD with 0 SS.
