Fighting gaymes

What are you playing? What are you looking foward to?
For me, I'll play MK1 for fun until Akuma (and season 1 balance patch) drops in SF6...or until Project L drops.

Why is the FGC so fucking bad?
I love fighting games but lately after trying to find some players for UNIST to prepare for UNI2, I've found that it's just a massive circle-jerk with retards doing their hardest to BM others.

That's what happens when your game depends on discord to survive. Spaces like that usually are built around a few known faces of the community who eventually get drunk on the admin power. I quit my local UNI discord because people would rather discuss drama than play the game (doesn't help that the netcode is complete ass)

Does that mean bad mouth? Also I'd wait for the UNI threads to come back on Ganker. The players have a good range of skill levels and everybody is pretty friendly. You will improve greatly if you stick around too.

I loved this fucking game. My main problem with Street Fighter is I only want to play my main so getting to pair up my main with anyone was so good.

I spent my whole month on 360 trying to play this online... nobody. Ironically, new uploads of matches happen. Fml I just wanted to see sfxt online at least once

I'll stay with ttt2 and Kof that still see players.

      >There's a good game buried under all the dumb Ono decisions and the on-disc DLC controversy
I thought the community reaction to that was the dumbest fucking thing.

      >there are more characters on the disc, we're entitled to them!!
As if companies haven't started the DLC before the game goes gold. It's not as if they sold you characters and then took them away.

In my opinion, it's no different to having them sit on the servers versus the disc. Like the game launched with 38 characters already, that's a fuckton.

      [...]
      [...]
      [...]
"On-disc dlc" was the fucking dumbest controversy, they didn't lie about what you were buying with the base game only to charge you for characters they put assets on the disc to help people with shit internet not have to download huge updates on the PS3/360 (since you needed the character data available locally if someone online used a dlc character). You knew what you were paying for at base and as DLC from the jump. It being on disc or a download is a completely irrelevant point.

It seems so quaint now, on-disc dlc seems like nothing compared to bullshit like lootboxes.

On disc was the lowest point of garden gnomeery; locking everything that was already in the game data you already paid for. Cuckery of highest degree. Capcom was warned about and disregarded the warning, they got shit deservingly. Also add that tag fighters need big roster above 40 characters

The game suffered from capcom being stupid and on disc dlc was just the most noticeable one, because there were lots of mistakes with it.

Can’t get into sf6. Couldn’t wait for it launch after grinding 3s to a nub for so long. The clumsy input buffer dropping all my shit and doing shit I didn’t intend kills it for me. Drive impact is peak unga and playing against it isn’t fun. Might get back to it if they ever announce Dudley or Sakura. Dudley in sf6 would be like letting a bull into a petting zoo

These games only live on as DLC costumes and ports, some like Rival Schools don't even get ports due to music and VA licenses plus being 3D instead of 2D like Cyberbots and Darkstalkers and good luck trying to buy an used copy since gays sell it over 190 dollars plus shipping, best way to play this stuff is just to pirate it anyways

Rival Schools finally snuck into SF in a playable capacity via Akira, though that's still a consolation prize. I think RS & Power Stone have some hope as long as Itsuno is around, especially once DD2 is out and he's finally going to work on things that aren't DMC or DD for the first time since the mid-00s. He's already said that he'd direct CvS3 if Capcom & SNK struck a deal for it.

Street Fighter has no playable e-boi characters to cosplay as Devilotte (they went as far as trying to claim that Sakura was never underage or an actual schoolgirl in the first place on recent years despite being a student in the Alpha series and Rival Schools, with devs back them claiming she was 16 and partially inspired by Usagi from Sailor Moon who was 14 at the start of the anime and 16 at the end of it), but I believe Cammy would be a better fit for a Devilotte cosplay since they do kind of look similar aside from the muscles and scar

          >KOF has everything SF does but better
I wouldn't say that. Neutral largely being based around hopping doesn't come anywhere close to SF neutral.

            Anonymous

KOF has both footsies and even more movement options, has both chains and links and the meter options are much more interesting.

The characters and music are also all miles ahead, i don't even dislike SF but the only reason it's even more popular is because it came first and people grew a sort of brand loyality towards it.

              Anonymous

I can't say that I like all KOF characters but there are some standouts for sure. On the meter options stuff I can't agree with you as KOF is more cookie cutter combo conversions (normal > command normal > special > super) which makes the cast feel abit too same-y (makes sense since learning 3 unique characters' combo routes with lots of variance would be a pain) gameplay-wise.

                Anonymous

That kind of combo is only really in 02 and I guess XI, but even then that's not taking into account MAX mode and tag combos respectively. 98 is simpler like ST and XIII is more about drive cancels (in or out of HD) and XV is at least as much about EX move routes. You sound like you have very little knowledge about KOF and like you haven't really played it; you are under no obligation to have either, but it doesn't make sense to pontificate about it in that case.

Obviously that's only speaking of combos too, you still have both kinds of guard cancels as well as use of EX moves as utilities (moot point though because SF has been doing that for a while)

SF6 has no neutral thugh. It's all drive gayry...

              Anonymous

The neutral is learning to work around the drive stuff because eventually you and/or your opponent run out of drive gauge if you overuse it. Meter management has become much more important to avoid chip death due to burn out. There in-lies the neutral. Whether or not you like that though is up to the players however (most people aren't fans of it since some characters benefit from it more heavily than others like Ken).

SFV's entire presentation was squeaky clean esports shit down to the UI. Most people don't realize that the free tracksuit costumes only existed back for a big 2020 Olympics esports showcase for the sake of visual consistency and not being too sexy. I'll take what SF6 is doing any day even if it doesn't always land (Not On The Sidelines is so bad and yet the World Tour map theme is so good, I don't get it).

Been playing SF6 almost daily since launch, but I'm getting fed up of the constant Cammy, JP and Ken players now.
Input reader needs some adjusting too, I don't even bother using DP to anti-air now as there's a good chance I'll unintentionally throw a projectile or use a level 1 super instead.
That, and the game will decide to eat my inputs for no reason leading to dropped combos and being able to use an invincible wake-up reversal come down to a coin toss
Can't make any progress in ranked either because of the region locked matchmaking so I'm either fighting high Diamond/Master players or illiterate WiFi warriors from a different continent in Battle Hub instead
I'm interested in A.K.I so I'll use a few rental tickets to mess around with her and then take a break until year 2's balance patch

MK1 looks a lot better than 9 & 11 and possibly better than X but that's a low bar, not worth getting at launch I don't think. SF6 is good but the drip of the important content is shockingly slow. T8 looks very fun but in a way that is worse for the competitive scene, it's a weird thing to see. Strive slowly gets very slightly better with each update but it's still deeply flawed and worse than +R & Rev2 overall while having dogshit lobbies. Project L has the right designers behind it but fuck I hate LoL & Riot, if it wasn't going to be free I wouldn't touch it. GBVS sucked and Rising legitimately looks worse. UNIB2 is cool since it's just more UNI with rollback. DBFZ & SamSho players suffering as they wait for rollback. DNF Duel players suffering because there's only like twelve of us. Indie fighters doing okay with YOMI Hustle and Pocket Bravery releasing this year. Not a bad time to like the genre but there's always room for improvement.

SFxT v2013 is pretty good and one more update could've made it great. I wish they could relist it but it took them a while to get GFWL off of RE5 and they actually care about that game.

Zangief crushes low ranks because he does fuck tons of damage with SPD versus people who don't land their combos yet.

Hit Diamond and you rarely get to land it.

He's so bad, pros generally agree he's in his own tier. That's not to say he's terrible, but players like Snake Eyez who are insanely good just make him seem better.

            Anonymous

The difference between Worst Character and Unplayable is lost on a lot of people. Gief loses matchups but I don't think there's anything unwinnable in the game. Gief/JP is the most lopsided the game gets and SnakeEyes showed that literally just understanding the mechanics behind JP's tools and having some patience gets you a long way.

I actually didn't think JP was that bad as Zangief until I played that Master rank and I realized just how difficult it is to get in versus a competent player.

I'm only Diamond rank, so I know in the grand scheme of things I'm still shit, but it bugs me when people say Zangief is great when they're sitting in gold. Even platinum wasn't that bad a time with him.

Tried SF6. Went back to tekken 7. Waiting for tekken 8. Rumor is that ryu is the guest character and will be announced on the 29th. Another rumor says that tekken X street fighter might still be happening but with a smaller team.

Do you have a source for either of those things? TxSF being real would probably make an SF guest in 8 redundant, Akuma was in 7 mostly as a remnant of the work on the game that existed. TxSF would be really interesting to me, more than T8, since despite its issues I really liked seeing how the Tekken cast were translated into 2D and seeing the inverse would be fun.

I am just waiting for FighterZ 2. The game had SOVL.

I think the rollback update is all we're getting. If a 2 was on the horizon they wouldn't have kept putting out updates after Lab Coat and just marketed the sequel with rollback like UNI 2 is doing.

Looking like the best NRS game yet barring maybe Injustice 2, but their bar is so low that that doesn't say much. I do genuinely like the Kameo system, your choice actually affects a lot of your character's options making each one almost like an MKX Variation except they're all available to every character. I'll still wait for a sale since I don't care about the story.

It's a NRS game, so there's that...but it seems to be their best game, and the best MK overall. At least it's absolutely rich in content compared to other fighting games, so you will have fun for a while, at least until SF6 gets more content, or we get tekken 8, project L, etc

I think most fans of those IPs found the game unappealing. RWBY fans just didn't care from what I saw, and people who weren't RWBY fans generally didn't seem to like it's inclusion in what was otherwise an anime fighter crossover, and fans of any of the other IPs in there seemed unhappy with how the characters were handled. Very few people had a reaction like "I'm excited to play as Ragna and Yu together" or something like that while many people had a reaction of being disappointed by how much their favorite character was being butchered.

Slapdash game that only existed as a backdoor for RWBY content because Mori is a massive waifufag. Only thing good it did was show that active tag + multiple assists is very possible to map to a controller intuitively, which is something better games would later pick up on. Well, that and having modern Blitztank sprites (if only because they were piss-easy to make relative to every other Blitzkampf character).

      Anonymous

It was incredibly soulless for a crossover fighter.
Yeah the gameplay mechanics were suspect but it probably could have had a slightly longer lifespan if it had more single player memes and celebrating each of the franchises instead of bumbling around with like 5 low budget arcade stories.

      >Add P4U characters
      >They play nothing like P4U
You could say the same for UNIB and BlazBlue. They tried to jam them into a tag-fighter but didn't bother to try to retrofit the systems they came from into the tag-fighter.

I hope they have more footage of the other characters at TGS because the only newcomer that's kind of interesting to me is Kuon, I don't like the look of Tsurugi at all and Kaguya seems just okay but I wish it was Zohar or something instead.

It's an unfortunate case. There's a good game buried under all the dumb Ono decisions and the on-disc DLC controversy, but it took a year for them to put out an update that only dug up about half of its potential. SFxT Steve is more fun than Balrog, Dudley, Ed, or actual Tekken Steve.

I thought the community reaction to that was the dumbest fucking thing.

        >there are more characters on the disc, we're entitled to them!!
As if companies haven't started the DLC before the game goes gold. It's not as if they sold you characters and then took them away.

With SFxT it was more egregious than usual cases, people found a full dozen characters all >80% complete, some basically in a playable state. Some of those characters even appeared in pre-release marketing like Cody & Guy, who were also SF4 asset reuse. Marvel Infinite didn't even have on-disc DLC of that magnitude but it got shit for its first batch of DLC characters being in the story mode at launch.

In my opinion, it's no different to having them sit on the servers versus the disc. Like the game launched with 38 characters already, that's a fuckton.

Fair enough, it was just the breaking point for a lot of people, not even just Capcom fans, sicne this was still 7th gen when publishers were starting to experiment with how far they could push DLC. SFxT was the second Capcom fighter to have DLC characters ever, and Marvel 3 had limited it to only two due to the decision to make Ultimate instead of more DLC packs.

Yeah, to be fair I understand it and while I don't agree with SFxT specifically, DLC has slid down that slippery slope and it's a pity that people have come to accept games as a service along a $70 price tag.

            Anonymous

The characters were all available to play from the disc and locked out at launch. That is why it was a big controversy and not the fact that DLC exists. If they were already ready to play from the base release then why not add them to the base roster (besides extreme garden gnomery)?

              >If they were already ready to play from the base release then why not add them to the base roster
              Budget for game is X
              Budget for DLC is Y
It's not a complicated answer. They could have ducked the whole thing by leaving the dlc off the disc and making it a download. Would have changed nothing in terms of price for content, you'd just have to download it manually. Capcom greatly overestimated people's intelligence though.

ArcSys pulled a pretty good fast one on dataminers with BBTAG. Just get the announcer to put in dummy lines for all potential characters in the files so you can't guess who's getting in or how much DLC will be coming.

That is a childish view of running a business. They planned the game to have what it did, sold it honestly and planned DLC ahead of time. The content would not have been made without the DLC's expected revenue.

I like your enthusiasm, I like where your philosophy is at but you're not considering the practical reality. This content was going to be in its mostly finished state either way, they'd satiate you by simply making it part of the update so the data is on your HDD instead of the disc. Either way the DLC sold to you would have been a 2kb unlock file. in 2012 with HDD space at a premium and DL speeds being what they were they really just tried to do things the best possible way. Unless you're rallying against the idea of having a DLC team work on DLC ahead of the base game being finished? In which case I refer you to my earlier statement.

Guy and Cody in a trailer (singular) at the end for about 5 seconds 8 months prior to release is so far the closest anyone has gotten to showing a lie.

When you got home you played the game, no such realization took place. DLC wasn't released until July 31, 2012; 3 months later. You realized you could buy 12 more characters 3 months after launch for 20 dollars which was a very low price for fighting game dlc even at the time. If you got it on Vita to play on the go the characters were free on PS3 and Vita. It was nothing and you're just exposing that you weren't there you're just piggybacking off of common outrage.

                >Bro they showed an outline of a woman I couldn't even make out for a second, false advertising!

                >Models were done for SSF4, trailer was CG probably outsourced to a different studio.
Making the decision to paywall in game even worse since a couple were already reused assets. The studio making already needless CG movies was in direct contact with the devs hence why they were shown, unlike Sakura or more likely Christie in the other trailer.

The meeting was a couple months/weeks before release and capcom usa warned them since the xbox360 versions were always cracked at day 1 if not earlier.

Tekken Tag 2 was a huge outlier in the market overall. Both things can be true at once.

It was a big deal, big enough to almost doom the game's fate. You're wrong and eager to die in that hill.

I know it was a big deal to a lot of people but I think they're fucking stupid for being so offended by it. The gems sinking the game I understand, poorly implemented, expensive, impossible to run at local events I get it. But the on disk characters? People needed to get a fucking grip.

And gems were on the lesser evil end, they weren't harmful and completely cosmetic in the big picture. Even though, as on disc dlc, were part if the package that doomed the game.

If the most annoying characters was all I was going off of, it would probably be Xrd>Strive>>>>>>>>>+R. I like +R but it has some of the most insufferable fucking characters ever, that image doesn't even have Baiken or Dizzy, +R Baiken is the most unfun fighting game character to go against I've ever seen in anything. Strive's roster mostly isn't annoying in my opinion but it does have Happy Chaos. I don't find Xrd's strong characters that annoying either, they're kind of annoying just in that they're good, but they don't have some annoying gimmick like +R's most annoying characters or HC. They mostly just have good buttons, good damage, good oki, good conversions, neutral skips and that's all somewhat annoying, but I find it pretty tolerable compared to what you could have.

        >but they don't have some annoying gimmick like +R's most annoying characters or HC. They mostly just have good buttons, good damage, good oki, good conversions, neutral skips and that's all somewhat annoying
Almost all the top tiers have some form of unblockable loop.

It's really just Johnny and Elphelt, but I don't find that that bad. Obviously it's more frustrating to deal with than if they didn't have unblockables, but in both character's cases I wouldn't even say it's the most annoying thing about them, Zweihander YRC and Elphelt's c.S are more annoying things about the two of them than them having unblockable setups in my book, and just having access to an unblockable is pretty inoffensive to some of the stuff you see in +R.

playing sf6, and waiting for them to fix Manon or add in another interesting grappler like Laura, since based on what I've seen of Laura's gameplay, she's like one of the few grapplers were her throws don't feel like "oh wait I just did command grab for 20% of your health because you guessed wrong and didn't expect it!" and instead her gameplay tends to look like "I just combo'd you into a grab chain by smartly placing my projectile, or whiff punishing you" Laura's throws feel like they flow seamlessly from her other attacks alot more than most grapplers I've seen. Not to mention that her throws don't actually do THAT much more damage than like a typical character's special move so it feels more fair

I'm also interested and possibly looking forward to Makoto, honestly based on what I've seen, looks less like a grappler and more like a bruteforce bulldozer If that makes sense.

I've been thinking a lot recently about Manon, and what to think about her in the context of SF6 and compared to every grappler. I still think she's probably the most genuinely unique newcomer other than like JP maybe. But she feels a bit incomplete, and like they don't quite know how to synthesize her ballet and judo fighting style. Not to mention that medals are the biggest fucking crutch and placebo mechanic to justify her being weak, while pretending "omg she can actually get so flicking OP eventually!!!" like all the retarded casuals think, despite someone like Idom barely every getting in grabs against pros.

I could probably write essays on my thoughts regarding all this, but I don't think anyone is interested, so I'll find something else to do and say

      Anonymous

I also want to play Manon, but I hate grapplers almost fundamentally. I don't care If they're technically weak, and believe me, I think Manon is genuinely weak, but the idea that a character can fundamentally always have the chance to randomly take 30-60% of my health if I'm just not expecting it enough, caught off guard, or guessed wrong compared to almost every other mechanic that catches you off guard (drive rush is bad for this EXACT same reason btw) is just fundamentally egregious to me. Grapplers have always felt like a stupid archetype to me, like there's just something fundamentally wrong about their gameplay design that doesn't mesh reasonably with the rest of the game.

That's why, even though I like Manon a lot (mostly for her cool ballet moves, elegance and how cool the idea of a judoka and ballerina is) Every time I see a scrub (or even a good player) randomly pull off a big command grab with enough medals. It feels like that single grab makes the rest of her kit and mechanics (which are the things that truly make her unique) feel trivialized and almost "pointless" or "unnecessary" to win. 90% of the power and usefulness is frontloaded on her grabs.

I learned to like Manon watching how cleanly idom uses ALL her moves despite him obviously struggling with her. It felt calculated, precise, and skilled. But even HE admits that sometimes Manon has dumb random moments where the opponent can't do anything against her command grabs. It just feels so antithetical to the rest of her gameplay. Atleast somebody like gief is just supposed to be a big dumb brute that grabs you with zero nuance, Manon feels like she should be more, better than that, above that, she does ballet and is a model for godsake, and Judo is like the most elegant that a throw based martial art can get.

In my ideal world. Manon would get a rework where he medals enhanced her normal throws somehow and made her command throws much weaker in damage or highly conditional.

    >eventually make it to the next rank (Bronze 2) which was my goal to prove myself before changing characters
    >this all happened over the span of a week
    >now have randomly lost all interest in playing the game for some reason and haven't picked it up in like 3 days

what the fuck happened? even while I was playing, I was getting tired and frustrated of DI spam, since some players will unironically spam DI after every poke, or in-between punish windows for their dumb combos, but that never stopped me from making sure I got to bronze, but now, after deciding to switch and learn a new character, I don't feel like playing. I've heard a lot of people express randomly getting tired of SF6, but thats typically after getting to atleast Gold. I got fucking tired in a week, what gives? Don't think so much about rank in fighting games. Think about the journey of getting good, not about trying to obtain a specific rank. You'll burn out if you put the wagon infront of the horse. Sounds like you need to take a break if you only played SF6 all week.

      Anonymous

other anon is right, don't worry about rank just enjoy pushing buttons that lead to enjoying movement and blocking and eventually you'll want to pursue the arithmetic of the game with frame data after slowing down your gameplay with enough matches. It's a natural process if you are hungry for facing strong opponents.

Honestly I feel like SF is a bad choice for your first fighter. You can’t go through the noob phase of mashing shit and doing cool stuff or even win rounds. Not that losing is bad but I was watching my brother try to learn SF as his first fighting game he had a tough time using what he learned from the guides to actual gameplay. It doesn’t flow naturally to a newcomer.

        Anonymous

That's not really my problem. I actually found that everything from the character guides DID flow into gameplay naturally eventually once I got past a couple matches. Yes you WILL lose alot in the beginning, but you're learning as you're losing every single match so it doesn't feel match and you get the "in the next match I'll do THIS better instead!" I actually feel like the tutorials and character guides for this game have been amazing and sometimes it feels like cheating to me, since I didn't have to learn the hard way all the veteran players did lol.

The only thing I'd say is hard to make naturally flow in gameplay is combos. There's already so much mental stack in the game with the whole drive system, that having to worry about that, while also remembering your inputs and their timings (I don't care if people think SF6 combos are easy lmao, for a newbie, remembering and executing them without messing up in a match and understanding every seperate timing is tuff, I hate hate hate so much when retards thoughtlessly just say "it's easy bro! you literally can't mess up!" without any thought or context)

Fundamentals flow nicely, once you remember the pokes the character guides tell you to spam alot, and you watch a bit of gameplay from better players.

So yeah, I don't think my problem with the game is necessarily that it's hard, nor am I worrying about rank. Honestly, my problem might just be that ranked doesn't feel redundant? But I don't want to play casual matches either. I don't know man. I know that if I play the game, I'll run into the same Ken, Juri, Cammy, Deejay, Marisa every time. And while that might sounds like a wide spread, it's really not, it also doesn't help that running into a character you don't play against a lot feels like shit, since you have to understand the match up in such short time.

          Anonymous

          >But I don't want to play casual matches either.
So play Battle Hub then. You can even chat with your opponents post-set there.

Also stick to basic 2-3 move combos if you're not feeling confident in the longer stuff. Especially for early ranks like Bronze where people are spamming DI and dragon punch (easy punishes with reverse DIs and blocking and punishing their landings respectively).

That is true of all fighting games and not exclusive to SF. It takes time for your muscle memory to apply what you learned in tutorials. I recommend that he try doing advanced arcade mode clears after he learns a new tool to use in his arsenal before heading to online play.

I worry that T8 is going to be a massive pile of shit since everything surrounding the heat mechanic seems both unnecessary and retarded no matter how its curated.
Seriously, what the fuck is the point of this? Are we pretending Tekken isn't the most accessible FG at low level? Is the solution to hyper defensive play at the high level really just making the game more retarded? Did 7 not fucking sell well enough with over 6 million copies sold?

You're still young my man and fighting games aren't all about reflexes. I'd say the best way to start is either with SF6 which has a decent enough tutorial or wait for Granblue, a game that is very beginner friendly. You could always pick a random game from Fightcade (they're free), but you'd have to learn alone while playing against D ranked players which is doable.

Yea sf is one i've always wanted to try but growing up the only fighting game I tried was smash bros

wow that's surprising I come from sc2 and 25+ is ancient

The one you think looks the coolest between: Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat 1 and Guilty Gear Strive. They're the most active communities and the hottest games right now.

After that you can change game depending on what on like or not, and on what new games release (Tekken 8, Project L, etc)

I'm assuming fighting game mechanics translate pretty well?

      Just post it anon.

I already have, nobody cares that's it. I'm not saying this because I'm scared to post something. It's because I already have, and everybody wants to talk about, costumes, SFxT DLC, generic anime fighter #57 or SF6 not having their main (which I think is an interesting topic, but nobody has actually said anything about it) I'm just venting, it doesn't really matter what I say anymore, even if somebody would engage with what I want to talk about now, it would feel inorganic and/or unsatisfying at this point, because nobody would likely be able to match the effort I put in the most and engage with all the aspects in full that I want.

It's a lose lose situation. The problem isn't inherently that nobody wants to talk about what I want to talk about. It's also the likely fact, that nobody tried to talk about what I want to talk about because they literally can't. The thoughts I expressed are either things they've never thought about or feel too specific and not broadly appealing enough to talk about. Don't get me wrong, it's less science, and more philosophy. Science can be discussed by anyone, since you can just refer to general agreed upon/established knowledge and theories. The truth is there, you just need to find it. Philosophy is more figuring out and understanding things, that don't tell you anything about how they should be. If you don't like the sound of "philosophy" then theoretical physics is the closest I can get to what I mean.

Basically I'm not talking about anything like "OMG THIS CHARACTER IS SO BROKEN BECAUSE OF X FRAME DATA, AND Y MOVE!" or, if we want to complicate things even more it's also less entertainment(tv, sports, modeling, talk shows)/pop culture there's no "OMG X anime character is so hot and cute and that's why I play her!"

I'm not tooting my own horn. If you're following my analogy. Science is more technical, smarter, and objective than Philosophy, and Entertainment is more appealing and fun than Philo too. I'm on my own

Ganker is a place for shit/meme posting...Reddit, traditional forums and maybe some discord channels are more fit for serious discussions

you guys are delusional. the entire reason I'm on this site is because I get banned too easily from reddit, I just took a gamble on this place because somebody recommended it, and it was active as fuck during TOTK leaks.

obviously I've learned Ganker is just the other side of the reddit coin. every single social media platform has shitposting, reddit shitposting instead just normalized dad joke tier. there's no place for me. I have to find my own way fighting against this meaningless void of typical people's collective consciousness and lack of self awareness to be self determined thoughtful individuals.

you can't be mad at me for being "pretentious" or long winded, when it feels like I have no place to go, and have to explain myself far more because people naturally don't understand me, and because I want things to be meaningful enough to not be easily dismissed, and covering all the bases is one way to do that, if not for anyone else, then for me.

              Anonymous

there's your issue. Ganker is great for active discussion on new and fresh games - especially if the game is leaked (like TOTK) since everyone will be here to discuss it. after the game releases, people scatter back to their normal haunts and you're left with the "regular anons" on Ganker, for better and worse. it's not that Ganker is necessarily bad for discussion, but you're fighting against the current that rewards short, combative posts instead of discussion due to the speed of the board. as an aside, attach webms or images in your posts if you want to draw more attention. OC webms that show the information/techniques/etc you're trying to discuss are going to be the best in this scenario.
all things considered, discussion for SF6 specifically will rev back up when AKI releases. but right now fightan fags are split between SF6, any of the previous fightan games, and obviously the upcoming MK1 release. not to mention any of the other big games that came out recently (Starfield, AC6, BG3, and whatever else) for the people that jump on new releases.

                Anonymous

I agree with you but disagree with you. The problem isn't activity. Starfield threads have been Hella active and there hasn't been a single honest discussion. I stopped opening TOTK threads even when they were still getting 400 replies because shit was getting redundant, and it felt like neither side were trying to understand eachother and engage honestly, and it was just throwing shit at eachother trying to say the most shallow instigating shit.

You bring up an interesting idea of posting with a webm or pic, that's probably a good idea. I can't do OC webms because I'm not an artist + putting that much effort into OC webms when I already know this place to be retarded and borderline highschool tier in their inability to engage with indelth discussion. I'd just feel even more discouraged if I got a one note response, or no response.

I just think I've got to find another place unfortunately, I've talked to some decent people on here about this before, and they recommend just finding friends to talk about videogames with (easier said than done) there was also one dude that implied there was a better place to have discussion but that he couldn't tell me because Ganker would ruin it, so there's that *sigh* I wish I was smart enough to just sort through my thoughts and ideas on my own without needing to seek out the perspective of others.

                these two are my posts:

playing sf6, and waiting for them to fix Manon or add in another interesting grappler like Laura, since based on what I've seen of Laura's gameplay, she's like one of the few grapplers were her throws don't feel like "oh wait I just did command grab for 20% of your health because you guessed wrong and didn't expect it!" and instead her gameplay tends to look like "I just combo'd you into a grab chain by smartly placing my projectile, or whiff punishing you" Laura's throws feel like they flow seamlessly from her other attacks alot more than most grapplers I've seen.

In retrospect, I really shouldn't have even tried, the thing I wanted to talk about would NEVER get the satisfying response and engagement that I want. And it was just too indepth, long and specific for mass appeal. I'm not delusional, it's not as if I don't realize I can come off as "pretentious" or "longwinded" It's just how I am. I have a reason for being the way I am just as everyone else does. It feels kinda stupid and shitty to be told that actually the way I am is wrong when it's ultimately arbitrary and I literally think the exact same about the type of people that call me "pretentious" and "longwinded" because it demonstrates a shallow and reductive understanding of me.

In my ideal world, I would never express a single thought to anybody ever, since I'd figure everything out that I want to understand on my own. My posts, thoughts, ideas, aren't appealing, and thats that. I can't and won't do anything about that, since if I were to change the way I typed, then it would be equivalent to changing the question I want to ask, and what's the point of getting an answer, if it's not the answer to MY question, if it's just a generic question that anyone can answer.

It's whatever, I'm ranting now. I hate socializing, and I hate most of this place. I'll figure something out, or continue to express thoughts that nobody wants to hear. Sometimes I ask myself "Is the idea that somebody is rejecting/ignoring you worse if they simply can't help it, and you're not interesting enough, or is it worse if they have a reason, and what your saying actually just isn't meaningful"

It's sort of a Geralt situation. If I had to choose, I'd rather not choose at all.

I don't think posting mini-essays is a great way for people to digest content here. I get that you want to express yourself fully but

It might work out better in a dedicated SF6 thread but in general fighting game threads such long posts are largely ignored. These threads serve a better purpose in people playing games together rather than trying to have discussions.

                Anonymous

yeah, probably right, I'll make a SF6 thread of my own I guess and drop my essays there lmao. It just feels a bit discouraging, it's not like this is the first time this has happened, and even in a dedicated SF6 thread, I got called autistic for a big effort post. I'm just hoping I can find a place off here (or in some bizarre case, on here) where it's more clear the values of discussion and engagement.

I don't like /vg/ threads because instead of shitposting it feels like "casualpostong" or "lazyposting" where it's just people posting fanart or talking casually and it's typically VERY obvious nobody wants an indepth discussion, reminds me more of reddit.

I played like 3-4 days on T7 treasure battle until I was confident to try online casuals back when I got mine. I did a ton of missinputs at first but you just have to keep playing. There are no shortcuts no easy ways out. You literally just have to build the muscle memory.

        Anonymous

Ironically I wasn’t missing diagonal but mostly doing missinputs on b and f since I’m square there is no 1 way it has to click. Really frustrating at first but it was worth it. Fighters have been much more enjoyable with a stick even if that means getting carpal tunnel.

      Anonymous

That's interesting that it's diagonals you struggle with. For me it was cardinals because the square gate helped guide me naturally to the corners. Anyway, just keep using stick even in non-fighting games like platformers, beat em ups, shmups, etc. And you'll get it. I used to play stuff like Super Meat Boy with stick and it worked well.

        Anonymous

I'm playing KOFXV, and having to do diagonal command normals during combos is killing me since I have to hit right in the corner, and I don't tend to ride the gates. I do use the stick with side scrollers and shooters, but I don't think it's much help, lol.

He will be better because Ken will be nerfed. Anyway, Akuma will always be more fun IMO

I think they did a pretty good job with Ken in Dix. Dragon lash and his run moves and cancel not being a meme for once makes him pretty interesting. Ryu is the shoto that needs the most work done.

Ken & JP are really interesting characters that have a lot of decision making at a high level but both (honestly Ken moreso) are overtuned. The main thing being that Ken can so easily get the corner from any confirm because he has extremely easy corner carry and side switches without meter via Tatsu & Lash, plus Lash is a strong out-of-pocket neutral option that's a raw reaction check that leaves him pretty good on block compared to a majority of other specials.

SF6 is my first SF game, and I'm having fun with it. I chose ken because I knew he was a easy character to learn the basics and now everyone thinks I'm a tierfag, so I'm probably gonna pick up chun or deejay next. Climbing out of plat seems really hard. The skill difference between plat 1 and 5 is like night and day. It's nowhere near this steep in the lower ranks. I'm lookin forward to MK1 as a comfort game. Mortal Kombat is too goofy to take seriously. I hope they add cyrax at some point.

I only like guilty gear and vampire savior. I really fucking dislike sf. Most slow and boring shit i've ever played. What a fucking slog

Based, I used to like SF but the new style of music and the graphics really don't do it for me so I just ignore the newer ones

I unironically like Chun's 6 theme most but Spinning Bird is pretty close. Honestly as iconic as it is the classic SF2 Chun theme is just "pretty good".

I hit some nostalgia and went back to Rival Schools, Soul Blade and Star Gladiator.
    Feels good.

    Anyone remembers DNF DUEL?

Yes. Fun game, feels like a classic 8ing 6th gen licensed fighter, great netcode. Shame Nexon is a contender for the worst publisher in the business and provided it negative marketing. Meanwhile I genuinely hate the gameplay of GBVS but CyGames are putting their money where their mouth is on it.

    >What are you playing?
Nothing. I have periods where I'm into fighting games and periods where I'm hopelessly bored of fighting games. Right now I'm in the latter phase.
    >What are you looking forward to?
    Nothing.

    >What are you playing?
    Old Dead or Alive games.
    >What are you looking forward to?
Nothing. If something like Virtua Fighter rereleases, like and anniversary collection, or a new VF comes out, unless I quit playing vidya, I will (God willing) get them, but as it stands, there is no announcement for something like that and I don't see sega doing that, that being said, at least it will have died a good series. I can still play VF5FS, unfortunately no VF5R or VF4FT but there's nothing that can be done about that.
I'd also consider getting DoA7 if that ever happens.
