>It's not as good as the book
sell me on it, I've made a couple threads on Ganker about it and got no reply, is it like the movie, character wise, theme wise?
I read it and can say the games are based on the world only. None of the characters are in the games but multiply countries fighting to occupy the zone is true to the book.
>Ganker
Silly anon, you don't go there to talk about books, same as you don't go to Ganker to talk about vidya. >sell me on it
It's the most interesting and probably the most realistic take on the zone and it's consequence for humanity. Also the story has probably the most "human" protagonist i've ever read in a SF novel, which is rarer for the genre than you might think. It's very different from the movie but it's a short read so give it a go.
> not as good as the book
As if you read it fag
Lmao, i have it sitting on my bookshelf together with all the other strugatsky brother works. Typical Gankerfag right there.
>Silly anon, you don't go there to talk about books, same as you don't go to Ganker to talk about vidya.
kek >Also the story has probably the most "human" protagonist i've ever read in a SF novel
by human you mean realistic or empathetic, like Tarkovsky's Stalker?
I will nevertheless take the newer translation and give it a go.
>by human you mean realistic or empathetic, like Tarkovsky's Stalker?
Yes. He's written like a real human being, with all the flaws a human being has. I won't go too much into detail since i don't want to spoil anything, you'll see once you read it. >I will nevertheless take the newer translation and give it a go.
The newer versions are fine for the most part, only thing i remember is them censoring the one time someone's called a nagger but they're fine otherwise.
Then if you read it you'd know the games have nothing to do with the book and to say "not as good as the book" is a retarded thing to say
>the games have nothing to do with the book
Except the zone of course, and the artifacts, anomalies, different parties interesting in the zone, the military, the stalkers, the wishgranter, you get the point i think. But the most important aspect of both works remains the Zone itself, which is more interesting and scary in the book than in the games. So yes, the book is better than the games for that reason. I still love the games and i know a lot of stuff got cut due to time contraints/budget issues but who knows, maybe the sequel will truly capture the horrors of the zone.
The AI is really poor, guys just walk to the right or left and shoot at you, they don't ever seek cover, so you can just take potshots at your own leisure. The game is buggy as hell without fan patches.
It becomes a Call of Duty game for the final stretch, which does not play into Stalker's strengths at all.
Quests are constantly broken by NPCs despawning or not being where the PDA says they are supposed to be
Anomolies are just environmental "Do Not Enter" signs and not interesting. Clear Sky is even worse about this.
Still an amazing experience with unmatched atmosphere.
Its modding community has been taken over by Tarkovshitters obsessed with "muh immershun" gameplay, where the primary antagonists are the inventory screen and time wasting item animations.
This takeover happened before tarkov was even an idea. The "muh hardcore, muh immersion" cancer started with AMK 1.4.1 and reached it's breaking point with Misery. The release of Tarkov and anomaly/gamma just doubled the already high numbers.
It's nearly unplayable unpatched
Artifacts just kind of spawn all over the place instead of having a proper system for hunting them
Several cool mutants were cut from it due to time constraints >t. someone who loves all three games (yes including CS)
>including CS
Pretty sure the only people who "dislike" CS are falseflagging modfags, same deal as with fallout 2 hate just being falseflagging Bethtards who never played the OG games.

This is great, actually. Always felt a bit too neat, too designed, too game-y how in CoP you go to specific anomalies to get specific artifacts and they are always there is enough time has passed. I love how in SoC you just randomly find a field of artifacts.
Has nearly nothing to do with the movie.
Very short. Tiny set of several areas. Characters look stupid, so does armour, groza14 is the only good looking gun.
Vanilla SoC is not a great game, i'd hardly call it good too since contrary to many computer gamers i actually played console games. With mods though it is a good game, OGSR is a must.
The game just feels empty and often lifeless without some mods, the only things that are undeniable quality are the locations and the emergent gameplay, though the emergent gameplay is only a thing that mods have managed to make really shine
>ruining your first playthrough with mods
I fucking hate you modfags
Didn't say that, if that's the first time you are playing SoC you should just get one of those patch compilations
>playing anomaly >go to red forest >completely infested with monolith and sin >as in unending spawns of them >unironically killed over 50 of them and they kept coming
Is my save broken? Or is this somehow intended design?
Monolith in Anomaly are OP, if you raised the spawn rates its normal that they'll keep pouring in from the north
To an extent, the A-Life could do much more than just respawn stuff into locations and they don't even roam around much, i can understand why the devs "locked" the A-Life system that way but some modifications made me see the light.
>and they don't even roam around much
Yes they do, you fucking idiot. The whole fucking point of A-Life is that they move from location to location and do shit. It's the entire reason you find them carrying more than just their basic loadout and why random firefights between factions and with mutants happen.
>i'd hardly call it good too since contrary to many computer gamers i actually played console games
So you're a Cawodoodie brainlet and wished it was more like your cinematic recoilless console "shooters"? Makes sense. >OGSR is a must
Of course a consoletard would love a mod that adds nothing but garbage bloat with quest designs that make even bethesda look good in comparison.
>playing anomaly >go to red forest >completely infested with monolith and sin >as in unending spawns of them >unironically killed over 50 of them and they kept coming
Is my save broken? Or is this somehow intended design?
That's just anomaly. If you think this is bad just wait till you get to the CNPP.
Call of Duty isn't a console game, FPS are a PC genre too. Also console users don't even know what a mod is, SoC has plenty of gameplay but most of it is wandering around in mostly empty areas, so it is gameplay just not good gameplay
actually he's a retard and the game is but lifeless, it's nothing like roadside picnic
You want the game to be even emptier? At that point it would be just a walking simulator
>and they don't even roam around much
Yes they do, you fucking idiot. The whole fucking point of A-Life is that they move from location to location and do shit. It's the entire reason you find them carrying more than just their basic loadout and why random firefights between factions and with mutants happen.
Yes but that doesn't really happen in the base game, i bought it day one so i would know something about that
>playing anomaly >go to red forest >completely infested with monolith and sin >as in unending spawns of them >unironically killed over 50 of them and they kept coming

>Its Chornobyl not Chernobyl you stupid Russian
>Were as different as Serbs and Bosnaks
Shitty gun at the beginning and bullet sponge enemies. I didn't play more than an hour
>bullet sponge enemies
>bullet sponge
>he doesn't know
It's not as good as the book
Also kill all modfags
>It's not as good as the book
That's because outside of anomalies and being set in Ukraine, the games are pretty different from the book/movie.
>It's not as good as the book

No fast travel.
At least leave it to like easy mode or something or as a option to toggle on/off.
>No fast travel.
*crashes*
Bobbing around whenever you run, refunded that shit instantly.
You can remove it with a console command tho
Guns feel like shit

9/10
It's good as it is, a shame they didn't finish up the Chimeras and Burers though
No Yuri
Gamma is better.
Requires Zuckerberg levels of tech know how to get it to function as God intended.
It's not Anomaly 😉
PC only
>flaw
>flaws
a few but hell, it has sovl

It's a fps game
Okay
>shit gunplay
>shit story
>shit animations
>buggy as fuck
I love the STALKER series, but it's incredibly flawed and highly overrated
It's underrated.
>overrated
Zoomzooms pass over it due to the lower graphical quality it has compared to the shit pumped out nowadays.
Just list all the improvements of AMK then count them as flaws.
It has better gunplay than anything since or after
>flaw
the flaw is that nobody has topped it in that regard.
Vanilla SoC is not a great game, i'd hardly call it good too since contrary to many computer gamers i actually played console games. With mods though it is a good game, OGSR is a must.
The only thing one can construe as making vanilla ShoC not "a great game" is the bugs. It doesn't need mods, only a patch.

You are not alone.
it turns into a shitty FPS game that throws hundreds of Monolith stalkers after you enter Pripyat
>no women
>no poc and trans representation
what a chud game
>no poc
Every character is Slavic.
i said poc not gay
He said flaws, anon.
They just congregate there is all.

Artifact hunting in SoC is very lame
>start game
>get directed to a tunnel
>invisible force in tunnel kills you
>no checkpoint
>start over
Game is fucking bad
You jest but I think some are actually so dumb as to do and think that.
Skill issue
Too many to list
Still one of the best games in existence
