this, i've always had an idea about canada, vault -tec had a shell company in canada that basically did the same thing, can-tec, vaults are called 'cans' the vault guy is the same except he has a moustache, a lot of people fucked off into the woods when the us invaded so they missed the nukes that bombed population centres, it wouldn't be a "main line" fallout because it doesn't take place in the us

    Entirely in a vault
    Call it Fallout: Overseer
    >You play as an overseer of a vault which still hasn't opened, your above ground sensors stopped working some time ago and you don't know the current state of the world.
    >The game is set entirely within the confines of the vault and natural caverns it was built inside
    >Persistent cast of limited characters, no unnamed NPCs
    >Game is a combination RPG/ management sim where you have to maintain the stability of the vault while also building individual relationships with different internal factions within the vault
    >Game will show the canon scale of the vaults (population of a thousand people, internal farms, hospitals, schools, living quarters, etc)
    >Multiple endgames depending on whether or not you choose to open the vault up or expand the vault underground

      I like this idea.
But it needs something to give it a sense of urgency.
Obviously as the overseer you'd have to manage supplies to ensure everyone doesn't starve or run out of breathable air, etc.
But there has to be an element of mystery and dread. Perhaps the "twist" Vault-Tec installed into every vault? Might be slowly killing or driving people insane?
Or monsters/mutants trying to break in through unsecured means around the caves and the vault dwellers dealing with the shocking revelation of what the radiation is doing to the surface?
Or something we haven't seen yet

It could be a great psychological thriller RPG.

Fallout games usually take place in and around a single city and here you are asking for a whole damn continent

Fallout games usually take place over a large area.
F1's map is about half of California
F2's map is all of Cali
Tactics' takes place in multiple Midwest states and a small part of Canada, but it doesn't really count because you don't travel freely in it.

    Alaska, maybe around Anchorage
    >Was a legitimate battlefield pre-war, providing plenty of potential novelty and intrigue as a setting, getting to see elements of the war firsthand when so much of it is seen through the lens of propaganda and hearsay, American and Chinese direct descendants of the conflict, etc
    >Is a frigid wasteland, something that Fallout has never really tackled, and has all the reason in the world to dot the world neat military tech
    >could gel really well with survival mechanics, keeping your heat up, finding food and the like
    >Could lean into a somewhat more horror bent with mutant creatures that will stalk you, low visibility, and the like
Not from Bethesda, though. I love Fallout but Starfield tore it, there's no hope for them to course correct. Even traits were basically just a marketing gimmick to say "Look, roleplaying is back" when they're barely relevant

I think Tim Cain recently rattled off that yeah, China probably launched the first missile because America was in a far better position and they didn't really have a reason to. But most people seem to think no answer would be satisfying and they shouldn't reveal it because it doesn't matter and I tend to agree.
