Fun game but somehow everything it does feels average at best.
It runs out of things to challenge you with around the same time you lift the siege of that one city. By that point I had armor that could let me deal super crits and out heal damage faster then it could be dealt.
Crafting systems really shouldn’t be allowed to let me do that so easily.
Crafting systems shouldn't exist in single-player games unless it's making food or bandages. If crafting is going to exist, it should be similar to the Witcher games where you need to find someone to craft the equipment you're wanting made by giving them a schematic and the ingredients. The system should be expanded to things like alchemy and gemcrafting as well, with top-tier npc crafters hidden away with their own special quests to unlock their full systems.

it still takes literally years of working for hours every day to match a master at a craft
RPGs need to do better about integrating NPCs (meaning the world in general) into your "skill" trees.
that's why I like BDO's lifeskilling system so much. you hire NPCs to do your harvesting, trading and crafting, you mostly don't do it yourself.

there is a certain state of polish and fluidity of gameplay you can literally buy, but amalur lacks that.
I like how chracters and books actually reference and hint other things in the gsme. Makes things feel more connected.

I went 50/50 on Strength/Magic and had a good time playing it last year. Didn't bother doing any DLC though.

combat is fun. i used to reinstall this game periodically but never finished it. my memory is hazy as to what kept turning me off eventually. i don't give a shit about story, so it wasn't that.

It's competently made but just really average.
Chakrams and great sword is pretty fun. Also voice acting is actually really good. Especially compared to something like Skyrim where every voice blends together.
The level scaling and shallow but annoying inventory management absolutely killed it for me

You're right, it's worse considering they remade it TWO times, sold it at full price THREE times and not only they didn't fix anything at a gameplay design level, they didn't fix the gorillion bugs and glitches either

I've tried to play this game 4 times in my life. I get bored every time after reaching the 2nd large area. Its just a slog and the combat is not good enough to keep me playing until the end.

I found reckoning on a key reseller and it's way cheaper than reckoning
Rereckoning fixes level scaling of items and adds quality of life fixes like allowing you to take the camera out of your ass. Plus it has a dlc expansion the other doesn't have.
This is such a weird game for me, it's average but I still somehow sunk almost 900 hours into it.

One thing I found to make the game more engaging was to use cheat engine to up the number that dictates how many enemies can be on you and attacking you at the same time. Each enemy has a point value. I don't remember the exact numbers but it went something like big homie is 75 points trash mobs are 25 and your total available pool is 100 with 5 enemies around you. The game will swap between big nigha and one small mob or four small mobs. Once the cap is hit everything else stans around and watches before they get tagged in essentially. If you raise or essentially remove the cap the game can get wild with everything trying to kill you at the same time constantly.
Its definitely one of the video games ever
