I love Extreme Green and Ice
I got a really nice condition Ice blue controller for $10 at a thrift store and it's been my main controller since my console is also blue
Extreme Green is just beautiful
Most kino of all are the two-toned Blue-white and Pink-white controllers from Japan
I can sort of see the appeal to the clear plastic ones, but they look so flimsy to me. I'm sure it's the exact same materials as the others but I feel like it'll shatter if I drop it or grip it too tightly. I prefer the standard grey, top left.
I still don't understand the logic behind making the buttons weird colors other than the logo
there's nothing that says the pause button shouldn't be blue or yellow >A button being blue for some odd reason
Color theory, kinda. Red is stop. Even in Japan. There's no batsu/maru so the face buttons are ambiguous, especially considering blue/green associations or the lack of in Japan, and the control cluster is cautionary. Someone thought about it and decided something like that, not necessarily for those reasons but made an attempt given the same information.
I'm just reading tarot cards here but that's the idea behind it, it's what you make of it and what people make of it is mostly that.
To put it another way, images are ambiguous but compiling what they mean to people reverts to the mean. Also japs are into all kinds of occult shit so figuring out their sources is nearly impossible. Be it color theory or Golden Dawn color theory.
well there's another option.. >least shit version of the n64 controller >analog stick is probably as close as it can get to a brand new stick >no shit ergonomics
wish they would but seems like it's a impossible thing to happen anymore
even xbox and playstation have more color options than nintendo
even the third party controllers making nintendo switch controllers do
just wish companies would make legacy products acknowledging their past. maybe some n64 style or gamecube style controllers for use with the wii but in interesting colors.
Honestly taking it a step further, there are so many people who buy old n64 controllers and toss them out and buy new ones because the sticks are loose and buy other ones hunting for good controllers. Nintendo should just say fuck it and make new stock of the old n64 controllers even if theyre obviously machined slightly differently. they would probably sell millions of them.
>nintendo should say fuck it and make new stock of old n64 controllers
NSO btw don't actually buy it
double chance of drift since it's using both old stick design and Potentiometers
>double chance of drift since it's using both old stick design and Potentiometers
N64 controllers don't risk drift, they risk loose sticks from plastic wearing away because of the stick design. The Switch Online controllers lubed up the mechanism a bit but beyond that it's the same old stick and will still take decades to wear down that much, even if you're playing Mario Party. You can fix a loose stick with some kind of filler and sanding it down to shape.
Nintendo switch online which they remade old nintendo controllers for playing games through their emulation service
ik but you still have double the chance of a broken stick except it's way worse and way more repair

>it's the same stick >can be fixed the same way
it's not it's using the same tech as modern controllers with the same shitty design that grinds itself to death
og n64 controllers had optical in them so you never had drift
iirc there's a drop-in gamecube style replacement for the crunchy old N64 joysticks. No soldering required.
Is it only speedrunning homosexuals buying / tossing for legit hardware rules or what?
fuck i meant for use with the switch not the wii i figure you guys already understood what i meant.

i dont understand your post just type out the word.

we shouldnt need to buy 3rd party things to fix our old controllers with but its better than nothing. no it isnt just speed running people. i bought some n64 controllers personally that were so loose they were almost unusable in some games. i have no idea what someone could have done to wear them down so much. there wasnt any friction at all.
>i have no idea what someone could have done to wear them down so much. there wasnt any friction at all.
Super Mario 64 and Mario Party had plenty of stick-killing minigames. Everyone had those.
i know that minigame is memed a lot but you would need to play something like that hundreds of times to do something like this and someone would have to get bored well before doing that just playing those 2 minigames unless something was wrong with them and they were retarded or something
They just went out of style with most people. Most people prefer that clean, solid color look. Sony put out some transparent DS4s, and the Switch Pro controller is actually transparent, I guess.
companies have fucking hated putting out colorways that aren't black or white for a couple of console generations now
it's largely partners and chinese manufacturers like power-a, 8bitdo or the billions of chinky joycon manufacturers that make fun stuff now
Nothing wrong with transparent plastics. They're just not popular anymore since no one wants to be associated with the visual motifs of the dotcom bubble era.
the biggest thing holding me back from buying transparent plastic controllers these days is the color
the only options tend to be purple on anything that isn't a literal no name usb chink pad that you can buy for 15$ and will probably break in a month if you play games beyond casually
It's Grape for me. My girlfriend bought me the Grape N64 and controller for my birthday about six years ago. I also have an Analogue Pocket that is a very similar color, pic related.
Yeah, I don't disagree. It's Transparent Blue if you care to look for one. Which is funny because it looks like the N64 Grape, which was called Midnight Blue in Japan. There is also a Transparent Purple, but it's meant to look like Atomic Purple.

Weird, I also thought it was dark purple because it looks like Grape. It does look a little bluer in that second pic. I would have gone with Atomic Purple myself. It's my absolute favorite
It can be difficult to take a good picture of it that accurately reflects the color. This is about as good as I have been able to get. Often it comes out looking faded or overly saturated depending on lighting and what else I have in the picture.
I just use my xbox controller playing gamecube games
there's no real good option for playing them wirelessly anyways
none that are at least close to accurate to original hardware without problems
btw wave birds are way too expensive for no real good reason
not even smelly smash autists use em

There was definitely some weird psychological effect that made the translucent ones feel "lighter" than the solid colors.
You feel that way until it hits something and damages it. You then realize "Oh shit, this bitch is HARD".
N64 controller sucks but there's a lot of nice colors there
but for me it's this bad boy
he emulates everything from NES to switch
Can't mess with the best
I still don't understand the logic behind making the buttons weird colors other than the logo

>A button being blue for some odd reason
At least they were doing something at the time other than grey controllers with black buttons
true but grey does look nice but I feel like they completely missed out on making the controller grey
gameboy colors looks really nice on a controller as seen here
I really like the grey analog sticks

I don't know the cool name for it, but the translucent turquoise one is my favorite. Is that one Ice?
For me it's none of these because the controller is fucking shit. No amount of sparkles and dogshit glitter paint will make it usable.
well there's another option..

Dk64 and translucent cyan-blue for me.
I don't understand why N64 controllers are so aesthetic
for me its Mad Catz
the only madcatz I ever owned broke on me in a day or two
gamecube controllers are cursed and all suck even worse than n64 controllers
OEM gray and Atomic Purple please

Wasn't there a solid purple one as well?
No, sorry, that was mandela'd for the GCN.
Try another timeline.
solid purple as far as I know was only a gamecube or gameboy thing
nintendo should make controllers like these again in see through colors.
wish they would but seems like it's a impossible thing to happen anymore

do wat u want bro
Wish Switch Pros could fix the fucking creaky joysticks. I have mine decked out to look like an SNES controller and it's kinda distracting.
just wish companies would make legacy products acknowledging their past. maybe some n64 style or gamecube style controllers for use with the wii but in interesting colors.

Why do companies not make transparent controllers anymore?
They just went out of style with most people. Most people prefer that clean, solid color look. Sony put out some transparent DS4s, and the Switch Pro controller is actually transparent, I guess.
Third party companies that exclusively aim at retro shit make some
companies have fucking hated putting out colorways that aren't black or white for a couple of console generations now
it's largely partners and chinese manufacturers like power-a, 8bitdo or the billions of chinky joycon manufacturers that make fun stuff now
Issues with the plastic. Some cultural detritus but mostly issues with transparent plastics.
Nothing wrong with transparent plastics. They're just not popular anymore since no one wants to be associated with the visual motifs of the dotcom bubble era.
Bubble era plastics had bad UV fade. I'm sure it's been fixed but they also cracked along with the yellowing and cloudiness.
the biggest thing holding me back from buying transparent plastic controllers these days is the color
the only options tend to be purple on anything that isn't a literal no name usb chink pad that you can buy for 15$ and will probably break in a month if you play games beyond casually
That's why custom shells and companies like extremeRate exist
But then you have the opposite problem. Shit's expensive for what you get in the end.
For me it's default
It's Grape for me. My girlfriend bought me the Grape N64 and controller for my birthday about six years ago. I also have an Analogue Pocket that is a very similar color, pic related.
Oh wow, nice. Did they actually sell them in that color or did you buy the shell separately?
They sold them that color for approximately one minute and never again.
that's utter shit I hate limited edition anything
Yeah, I don't disagree. It's Transparent Blue if you care to look for one. Which is funny because it looks like the N64 Grape, which was called Midnight Blue in Japan. There is also a Transparent Purple, but it's meant to look like Atomic Purple.

Smoke is good, but Watermelon will always be number 1 in my heart
still got this bad boy lying around somewhere
I wish the NYXI Wizard joycons had more accurate sticks and better feeling buttons. I love that they went with the Wavebird shape.
I just use my xbox controller playing gamecube games
there's no real good option for playing them wirelessly anyways
none that are at least close to accurate to original hardware without problems
btw wave birds are way too expensive for no real good reason

platinum gamecube was peak console aesthetic and I'm tired of pretending it's not
