I'm an A button myself
It's the closest
Easy to press and access
Taught me japanese people use it for confirmation and I use it like that ever since if I have the chance
>button placement always changing per year on nintendo >always have to google which button is which when setting up a emulator unless it's already preset
I fricking hate snes and gaemcube
>button placement always changing per year on nintendo
Their standard 4 face button pads that are not the cube one have all the same layout (SNES, classic controllers, DS, 3DS, wii U, switch)
>it's all the same
except it's not
wii gamecube and n64
the moronic trinity and if you have memory as foggy as me you confuse them all together because you're emulating with a xbawx pad or a playstation pad
>analog stick placement completely changes >duuuuude this is the same >that's not even mentioning the wii u pro controller which is a frankenstein creation of the worst parts of a controller except for battery life
Im only gonna say that its the N64 Z-Trigger because it still feels unique. Idgaf how unweildy the n64 controllers are, Z-Triggers were especially satisfying in games like zelda
Concave Y and X? I agree. I can't believe no new controllers do this.
It became less relevant as time went on, but for 2D games, it's essential. Putting a groove into a button that you hold 90% of the time for running/charging weapons is just a no-brainer.
The Yuro kind are the original M&Ms, and to this day are not sold in the US because. I dunno, they don't want to rebrand for the American market? M&Ms are better anyway.
Fun fact: American Smarties are called Rockets in Canada, because Canada does sell the original Smarties and so American Smarties needed to rebrand.
i think it was pretty smart to make them smartie buttons. the idea behind that redesign was that by making the x and y buttons indented there'd never be confusion where you need to look down since you can tell the x and y from the a and b buttons by touch.
they could have done that by texture too but no one is smart enough to do that despite having grip on the back of controllers these days
maybe I'm too high iq for sony and microsoft
it's more lance barr, the guy who nintendo told to design the american versions of the NES and SNES

So in other words, completely divorced from gaming and only concerned with moronic American aesthetic sensibilities which people like him have since been proven wrong about, his finger wasn't on the pulse. Simbly ebin. At least the buttons did work out for a reason that his Black person brain didn't comprehend.
unironically the N64 is the most intelligently designed controller i've ever seen >SNES layout with handles if used in a 2D arrangement with the d-pad >middle stick + Z button is molded insanely well to the left hand and mirrors the design of flight-sticks >Z button is L for most intents and purposes because you can't reach the actual L button >C buttons were added both for camera controls as a bad replacement for a second stick, and to let the controller work in a 6-button layout >A and B as your main two buttons are color-coded >expansion bay for save-data if it can't be saved to the cartridge locally, and for rumble
Based. I've said it then, and I've said it now. It was the best controller of the time, and most innovative one ever. The complaints over it are invalid because they are then comparing it to controllers who took what it did and made it better.
Even though it didn't have two analog sticks, or an analog click like the dual shock, it still had a more precise analog stick with a hexagon base so you can hit each of the 8 directions easily.
>it still had a more precise analog stick with a hexagon base so you can hit each of the 8 directions easily
GameCube also did this, and it's overall a better controller. The hexagon gate definitely needs to make a comeback, though.
Don't get me started on the GameCube. It took some step forward, but also steps back.
>+L and R triggers are god-tier >+main analog stick is best ever because of placement, grip, precision, hexagon base, more durable >+main button layout is actually more ergonomic and superior to the traditional 2x2 >+most comfortable controller ever >+built in rumble
But...
>-no analog clicks, which were standard years earlier in the OG dual shock >-c stick is not really useable with the nib for long periods of time >-no second Z button, which is standard on the dual shock >-no longer 6 face buttons >-face buttons aren't analog, which was made standard by Xbox and PS2 >-D-pad is too small
It had potential, but Nintendo being Nintendo decided to cheap out and because of it we got an inferior controller.
Dreamcast had a better controller and xbox took it and made it even better
but in the end the best controller really is a playstation controller unless you have giant hands
but still layout wise it makes no sense to have the dpad being at the bottom unless you have long fingers
I tried using my xbox pad for 2d platformers and it's just uncomfortable despite how good the dpad is

It's overhated by zoomers who only saw it on photos and think the middle grip is just for show, but "most intelligently designed controller ever" oversells it. Dual Analog's placement became a standard for a reason, it's much more intuitive and allows easier access to all of the buttons.
for me it's L3/R3, it's that secret button that you didn't know existed and when you discover it it made you wanna replay all your games to see what it did
It's actually not necessary to post the exact same things over and over again like a 5 year old watching their favorite disney movie.
You could instead try to add something original, even to a topic that has been beaten to death, because the alternative - which is what you have posted here - is so much worse.
The SNES controller is underrated. It's the basis for all the modern controllers, the only thing it lacks is the second L and R buttons and the analog sticks. It's funny that Nintendo themselves completely changed the design for the next console N64, which was fair enough and then kind of went back to the original concept with GameCube after Sony and Microsoft stuck with their designs, which are again, basically the SNES controller with 2 more buttons and 2 analog sticks
Is nintendo fricking serious right now? You can't customize the controls of N64 emulator games on switch? I paid an extra premium for the "online expansion" and the n64 games are fricking unplayable because a brainless button transition for that shitty octopus n64 controller? The Wii wouldn't let you customize virtual console controls, the Wii U then did let you customize, but then the switch took a step back so you'd buy those shitty retro controllers.
my favorite button
L button

Yeah, I like the "box" placement button as well. "Sphere" on the right side is also good.

The N64 doesn't even have X and Y buttons and the wii controller is a wii controller, that shit doesn't make any fricking sense to anyone
Wow the buttons are so different...
>analog stick placement completely changes
>duuuuude this is the same
>that's not even mentioning the wii u pro controller which is a frankenstein creation of the worst parts of a controller except for battery life
>pic4ants
Jesus i hate phoneposters
honestly this is the ultimate tiny controller for babies
>Usually used for running on SNES games
Agreed, Y is best button
The blue one
those colored buttons look so childish it fricking sucks
Xdudebros disagree.
it works fine on a stylish black controller
Thumb on Y + B is the most comfortable feel. It's like being snuggled by your mother's bosom.
>mother's bosom
Sounds like you want to frick your mom, ala ~~*Freud*~~.
Love this fella
Discovering sharp turns in RnR Racing felt like a scientific advancement
Loved that lil thing, need to get a USB to GC adapter to use my OG Wavebird on PC.
Who are you quoting?
Another anon asked that question a few weeks ago, probably him
Real fast
but what about grab
Only shitters use grab.
Im only gonna say that its the N64 Z-Trigger because it still feels unique. Idgaf how unweildy the n64 controllers are, Z-Triggers were especially satisfying in games like zelda
The uninstall button…The game is great, Ubisoft goes Steamworks bye bye, always on DRM.
Did Nintendo of America really need to remove the logo?
colors and fun are gay
yes, they were scared of colour making th kids gay.
but lavender/purple was fine?
>colour
now post the american smiles
perfect
Americans more or less put orthodontics on the map, dipshit.
that logo was only ever used in Japan, they're just making the NA version look how it did back in the old SNES days
>that logo was only ever used in Japan
I don't know if you noticed, but that image shows the European version, WITH the logo.
That's the logo they used in the UK. We had the colourful SNES.
purple and lavender is better than simon says
But the logo, though.
I like the american X and Y buttons
They remind me of smarties
>smarties
The American kind, or the Yuro kind?
Look at them, what do you think?
I've never had Yuro, so I assume American.
It became less relevant as time went on, but for 2D games, it's essential. Putting a groove into a button that you hold 90% of the time for running/charging weapons is just a no-brainer.

>American Smarties are rockets
it makes sense that the worst fricking candy ever made is the american replacement for smarties
They should bring them to the US and call them rockets
Fricking Canadians
i mean either way they are garbage

It's more likely that they foresaw Y being held constantly in 80% of games, and they decided to also apply it to X for symmetry.
no, it was for the reason i said
>taking Nintendo Power as gospel
ngmi
it's more lance barr, the guy who nintendo told to design the american versions of the NES and SNES

I like B
>the smartest controller convention of all time only existed on one controller, in one region
Boggles the mind.
Concave Y and X? I agree. I can't believe no new controllers do this.
i dont have a favorite button cause im not moronic
X was here
Y is a homosexual
Right Trigger chads WW@
The most important button on the controller.
>trigger
A trigger is just a particularly shaped and placed button
Z button on the N64 was a button though, not a trigger. It had no range, it was just an either On/Off press
None of the other buttons on the N64 controller had range, either. You're thinking of digital/analog.
thats perfect
You could totally half press it though
>shoots gun
>melee attack
>strong attack
>acceleration
>dodge/defense on certain games
Truly the chaddest of buttons
>trigger
>strong attack
Go away soulsgay, X/Y are the attack buttons.
I'm an American, so mine is the hamburger button.

The final face buttons were shit, they should have gone with the prototyoe olacement instead so you can use Y & A for sidescrollers
Dreamcast had a better controller and xbox took it and made it even better

Yeah yeah ok, but the stick was dogshit.
>Yeah yeah ok, but the stick was dogshit.
It was the best one at the time, so it can't be dogshit. Nobody complained about it then.
The N64 stick is notoriously easy to break, to the point that there is a high-end aftermarket solution to replace them.
It's overhated by zoomers who only saw it on photos and think the middle grip is just for show, but "most intelligently designed controller ever" oversells it. Dual Analog's placement became a standard for a reason, it's much more intuitive and allows easier access to all of the buttons.

i like ab. i hate xy. buttons that cave inward hurt my fingers after a while.
Your pink button.
X.
select, on so many controllers but without any real use since another button is always used for selecting things.
>Analog buttons
I hate the person who made this gimmick
>have to rebind games around it because it breaks games unless you use a ancient controller
A>B>Y>X
Facts.
>nobody posted the doug button yet
It's actually not necessary to post the exact same things over and over again like a 5 year old watching their favorite disney movie.
You could instead try to add something original, even to a topic that has been beaten to death, because the alternative - which is what you have posted here - is so much worse.
You may say "Oh it just ""Dougs"" out" but its actually a more complete, elaborated and complex button that serves a lot of actions
Because much like Pokemon XD, the meme was never funny to begin with.
Doug button
It still drives me fricking nuts that X is the one pointing up and Y is the one pointing horizontal
Mine was X because my autism told me it was exotic and further away from all the others
The SNES controller is underrated. It's the basis for all the modern controllers, the only thing it lacks is the second L and R buttons and the analog sticks. Also, touch pad and tilt control are a meme for meme games
Big fan of select, since it's never done a damn thing on consoles and I've never played in an arcade.

For me, it's B.
>y'know, Nintendo has more buttons than we do, the controller is more ergonomic, shoulder buttons seem cool
>say no more
The Chinese Button
nothing beats the power button
Triangle usual does something special.
Y gays still haven't been banned yet?
Bgays still clinging to their former glory, I see.
for me, it's the scroll lock
have a nice day
what if i told you this feature is not exclusive to Logitech mice
I'm a c-right button on the N64 myself. Couldn't have unlocked those primo Goldeneye Cheats without ya, buddy!
After I press this button I get to make money while posting
elaborate
The boi button
