FOSS game engine for STALKER. Low hanging fruit for contributions.

Let's develop gaming on Linux. OpenGL rendering, works fantastic on linux, no wine/proton needed.

Oh right. It makes STALKER not use up 100% one core and optimises the shit out of the games and the lua script interpreter. You can play on DX9-11 on windows and opengl on Linux. Works flawlessly. CoP supported, CS WiP and SoC planned.

Can I just apply this as a mod to vanilla version of SoC, CS and CoP for increased performance? I'm guessing there needs to be compability patches with overhaul mods like AMK etc.

      Anonymous

Yeah on linux it's just an install script. On windows you need do copy a few folders and play over vanilla.
For playing over other mods, I'm not sure how it works. Realistically, it's just a plug-n-play replacement of the engine. Should work.

    will mod devs
    use this engine insead?
are we going to see an update to every stalker mod?

Mods mainly use the lua interpreter, not the engine itself. So far item mods work fine.

It doesn't have a real licence so I can't make my own game in it.

      But it's BSD-like.

It's based on leaked source code with no real licence.

            >who cares
Someone who likes having their ducks in order, at any time they could pull the rug out, and the guy who owns GSC Game World, kind of a huge c**t.

again, how is this supposed to be an issue unless you want to turn a profit with your game based on their engine?
over the last decade we have had countless mods and a dozen total conversions for Stalker and GSC never pulled the rug even on one of them. on the contrary, they always encouraged fiddling with their stuff, releasing the alphas themselves etc.
if you ask me, this is proably the sole reason this series is still alive and talked about and has such a cult following to this day.
to be honest you are delusional to believe they would let you use their stuff for commercial gain.
id Software in its heydays basically pioneered releasing game source code to the public for fans to fiddle around with and even they never allowed it for commercial use. Activision, EA & Co. still had to buy a license.

I literally told you why. keep living in your delusion I guess.
                >GSC never pulled the rug even on one of them
They don't have the right to pull total conversions, TCs that modify the games source, they have the right to remove that from them, including ones that rely on overhauled or modified source code as part of the project.
ID is a rarity, almost no other companies release their full source code a year or two after release.

I play on Master and F-1 are OK but they kill radius is a joke. The chubby ones are literally worthless I can tank them in upgraded clear sky armor.

        >some of the best gunplay
Pretty terrible tb'h. Enemies soak up bullets with only occasional flinching. Barely any blood splatter or any visual feedback on projectile impact on enemies.

Why the frick would you want to use xray to make a game, even modified? That shit is purely for Stalker mods. Only the most broken damned Slav souls can unlock it's potential anyway, and they're aim is to run the shit on windows xp.

Because it has all the features including the Jank charm. STALKER is a cult classic, with it's source exposed it's content will be unlocked in the future.

That's pretty cool but how did the repo author get a hold of the source code? It says none of this is sanctioned by GSC.

Didn't GSC release the source themselves? Like how they uploaded all the old alpha versions, too.

You seriously don't believe that he engine development, even for old game engines, means nothing on a resume?

If you're hiring for a position and between two guys, and one of them has a project like this under their belt and the other only has work experience, who would you hire?

nice false choice, troony. but lets put it fair
        1. stalkertard: work experience+experience with old ass cryptic engine
        2. sane fricking human being: work experience+experience with relevant, usable engines like unreal, unity or cryengine

          >with relevant, usable engines like unreal, unity or cryengine
lmao, every Toby Fox/Phil Fish fricktard can use those.
Being able to use some slav jank engine from last century actually requires an IQ of 110+ and some massive problem solving skills plus motivation and determination.
I would definitely hire the stalkergay over some unity tard with a bachelor's degree in dance therapy.

    Ive been obessing over anomaly.
Im getting a new pc so that i can play anomaly

I would really want to develop a game that uses anomaly (with warfare) as a base

Im writing a book at the moment and i can come up with a story very fast

I even thought how cool it could be to gather a team and make a whole standalone game inspired by ANOMALY
