This one is the fricking worst. The framerate caps how quickly you can load anything, so uncapping the framerate makes loading screens go super fast. But then with an uncapped framerate, the physics get all wonky and moronic and in-game time flows more quickly. So if you want faster loading, you have to mod the framerate to be uncapped during loading screens and then recap it during normal play. Absolutely moronic engine design.

I'm playing the VR version of fallout 4 and that mod doesn't work at all. It's suffering to sit through 20-30s loading times because I'm playing the game at 72fps.

that's a good thing, i hate seed-based rng games where you can save scum and the outcome would be the same every single time

        Anonymous

But then you can save scum and just re-load until you get the RNG you want. Seems if you don't like seed based RNG, you should like it being consistent the entire time and have to deal with the seed you got. That is the opposite of what you just said

          Anonymous

no, seed based means that if you do the same action every time, the outcome would be the same, but if you change LITERALLY ANYTHING then the seed would be different and outcome would change
and i don't like it because it's just an extra step for me, just make pure fricking rng where 95% hit chance actually equals to 95% and not to 45%

A seed is a seed. It gets re-rolled depending on how it's programmed. Some games re-seed after ever single move. Some games only reseed at the beginning. If it's the later, then you can't manipulate it as easily.

How do speedrunning communities handle it when hardware performance could cause a wildly significant advantage or disadvantage?

        Anonymous

They make a separate category or something. They did it with RE2 Remake since uncapped framerate made the knife quick kill bosses.

        Anonymous

They normally cut out loading times from the timer. They may require framerate caps if high framerate can affect things. There can't be many games that run on variable hardware that don't use delta time instead of the framerate.

When theres a shitload of particles onscreen the game slows down; and not just the visual depiction of whats happening but the actual game logic or whatever, it's in sync with the framerate. Frick I hope you know what I'm talking about, theres probably a technical term for this

sometimes its good like in Megaman X.
There are times when you are on a minecart and because you are going fast and there's a lot of enemies on screen, the framerate dips and its much easier to make the jump onto the safe platforms.

        >you can't filter who you play against in fighting games?
Depends on the fighting game. But the Japs are notoriously terrible about matchmaking options in all their games, but especially fighters.
        >I'd refuse to play anything competitive with more than 50 ping.
In my case it wasn't about ping. For games with rollback I can, most of the time, play with the JP or EU players just fine because they at least have minimum fricking specs required to run the game and 2-4 frames of rollback isn't THAT bad. But the problem is that the fricking thirdies that play games on a $50 notebook from 2009 can't break 30FPS for a game that MANDATES being run at 60FPS. Not being able to run the game at 60 should bar you from online. Period.
