That hardly counts to be honest.
Most of that is Zenimax managers from every continent who likely did not even know the game existed, but get a credit BECAUSE they are CEO or the parent company or whatever.

I felt kind of sorry for them until I heard it took 1500 people over 5 years to make

          Let's assume that's 100 full-time, 1400 contractors. 100 full-time at an average salary of $62k per year is $6.2 million, or $31 million over 5 years.

Assuming contractors were only paid quarterly and you only had 280 active contractors every year, paid at $15/hr that's $31,200 per person or $8,736,000 per year, or $43.7 mnillion over 5 years.

$75 million to make Hi-Fi Rush. Divide that by $30 per game, and you had to sell 2.5 million copies just to cover salary. Not covering benefits, not covering marketing, not covering licenses for game engine and music, etc. So Hi-Fi Rush needed to sell 5 million copies at full price to break even.

          That was not doable.

                Japan

the cost of living in japan is tremendously lower. if that's 62k usd, than you can have an entire apartment and eat out every single day on that kind of money and still be saving.

Yen is weak versus the dollar so 62k goes further there, but also it is more than a lot of people in the US make. It is technically only slightly above the US average but the numbers on that wind up odd because of wealth disparity issues. Most people would jump at $30 an hour, which is what this would equate to if you dodge all the unpaid overtime (which is easier to do here).

That's thanks to M$. They have a ridiculous high turn over rate by only hiring contractors for like half a year and then swapping them out for new ones. Any longer and they would have to hire them as permanent workers which M$ is deadly afraid of.
Of course this leads to a high number of "devs" in the end and an even longer dev time if you have new people every couple months that need to be trained in.
It's a very structural problem at M$ themselves. Look at Bingtendo who barley ever fire someone and let a team grow and learn to work with each other, and if they do fire someone you have fricking news articles about it like a couple months ago about some artist or designer.

The game didn't flop, it made money. But for a company like MS a few millions is pocket money at best. They want Fortnite tier money. They don't give a shit about video games or the industry, they just want money and they have enough moneyy to spend to do the same thing they did with Windows and end up creating another monopoly where Windows is the only choice, or in this case, their Fortnite.

The steam reviews for hifi rush are all positive though. The only people shitting on the game are a few dedicated autists here who are seething about forspoken for some moronic reason. It was a good game that would have sold well had it not been on the $1 pass. MS didn't even bother marketing it. This is like when Sony killed Japan Studio it's a sign for anybody who likes soulful games to look elsewhere. MS and Sony will only make Marvel Disney IP slop for now on.

worthless awards/reviews? heh listen "kid", if your game doesn't make money it's garbage to me.

Microsoft is showing that game industry is all about profit, nothing more. business, is business. its why nintento makes the same copy paste games for 2 decades, because they print money, if not in game form, then in merch form, something snoy or microshit can't fathom to achieve. How many IP did sony toss down the drain because of no money? hundreds. no bb2? yah because BB on PS5 would sell like shit, sub 3 million.

actually you know what, I think palworld and helldivers and that other indie game caused this. the big wigs saw how easily those games sold well despite the shitty budget, and just started axing everything. it was only after palfworld that suddenly tons of studios and employees were laid off in all these companies.

Bait aside, superhero movies are too heavy on the quips, the only characters that should be going around making snarky jokes and and being part of silly gags should be the jokey, silly characters, not the entire cast, and not for the entire franchise.
That said, I hate it when superhero movies are TOO serious and mute all the colors while Joker is going around ripping faces off and shooting people with a regular-ass gun.
HFR is a silly, jokey game about a guy with his Walkman in his chest replacing his arm taking down a bunch of silly parody characters and the main boss is a dude voiced by Roger Craig Smith, all set in a vibrantly colorful world and one of the main villains literally does legit Jojo poses.

if any of you frickers complaining about MS shutting down devs also liked the Fallout show, then I'm glad that whatever you enjoy is also being destroyed

    >siding with Microsoft
How did they not see this coming? What about the Xbox brand seemed friendly?

Only leftoid tier brainwashed morons would think MS buying 2 big publishers in an already pretty incestuous industry was a great idea. Same shit happening in the movie industry because of Disney.

    Why is 343 still alive?

343 is nearly 100% women and troons nowadays and they are a protected class. It is the only reason. Everyone with skills there has been fired or got bullied out nearly a decade ago.

They're probably still making money off of microtransactions. Hi-Fi Rush is a normal game and can't peddle "SEASON 25 POOPSLOP SKIN AVAILABLE NOW" to whales.

If it makes money then they could just use it to offset the losses. Having a studio that makes games that win prizes is good on its own.

awards don't equal money, when will you leftist trannies understand. They had NO active games in development and just lost their most valuable director who founded them, what good are they to Microsoft's stockholders?

i'm a shareholder. first of all, shareholders wanted ms to sell xbox and gaming years ago. it was clearly heading nowhere and this is just confirmation. nadella's resistance to cutting xbox loose coupled with this billion dollar boondoggle should at the very least cost him HIS job. by now ms has spent at least $80b on acquisitions which we'd all have appreciated as a dividend if nadella was just going to piss it away.

aside from that, perhaps ms should have considered personnel retention or at least suitable replacements to be a top priority when they bought these companies. what's the point of owning IP if you're just going to smear shit on it? it's not like microsoft is new to this, remember Ensemble? FASA? Rare? Halo? remember when people actually WANTED to upgrade windows? it's not the game studios that need to be shut down, it's nadella who needs to be shown the door. we've clearly hit the peter principle with this one.

When it comes down to it all those awards are just plastic and cheap metal. They mean nothing. Welcome to the real world buddy. Welcome to the trenches.

They won't be homeless, there are plenty of mobile gaming divisions that could use their skills.
