World editors used to be like a staple of rts games. Now they don't even make rts games

Was it? I don't remember world editors for C&C or Red Alert, but I haven't played them in a long fricking time either.

FinalAlert was the editor for Red Alert.

    >moronic general playerbase that couldn't comprehend the tool
    >copyright issues if someone makes something good in the editor

The profit margins won't tolerate this, my friend.

Halo CE proves this wrong. That editor was the most convoluted piece of shit I ever had the misfortune of touching, but that produced a tonne of great content.

general playerbase that couldn't comprehend the tool
When has this ever been true? The editor is basically a game itself

      Anonymous

      >moronic general playerbase that couldn't comprehend the tool
User issue. It's not the developer's fault they refuse to read the manual or learn the tool.
      >copyright issues if someone makes something good in the editor
Whatever users make is theirs, just as how players who purchase a copy of their game own their copy.
      >reputational hazard if players mod the game and your studio is seen as incompetent for not keeping up to them
Incentivize developer creativity by hosting game editor map jams among dev team to show to the public just a glimpse of what unique things you can do with the creator. WC3 had Blizzard-made custom maps in the form of tower defense games, kart racing, and that one map where you could select from a bunch of custom made races (murloc, satyrs, bandits, etc.).

I made so many little RPGs and shit on Starcraft, was so fun and intuitive to trigger events together. Especially when I studied other people's maps and figured out some intricate designs. One day I will return to the game and do another Naruto from the ground up, love those special abilities that do wicked shit, so good.

I remember playing Aeon of Strife, the progenitor to DOTA.

Speaking of starcraft it's funny to see that the majority of custom maps for SC2 are just copies of wc3 maps.

I know wc3 reforged sucked ass, but has anyone tried the custom scene there lately?

Bounds were fun but I sucked a at them.

Importing custom resources to editors to make mods/maps/whatever breaks some of their ToS and makes consoles vulnerable to viruses and scripts.
Also, they can't sell expansions/dlcs/season passes if community makes all stuff themselves.

Quite literally hundreds upon hundreds of games come with mod tools or map editors.

Unfortunately Original Sin games don't get enough custom content. New classes? Sure. But no good modules and custom campaigns tho. Which is a shame, because plots of og campaigns were the weakest things in those games, with their stupid narrators.

Does it has a map editor?
Because pathfinder has similar situation but I always excused it with that it doesn't have proper map editor that easy to use

It has a map editor but it is an unnecessary complicated one. It is more like a dev tool. I guess no one wants to spend time learning it.

The more fun you can make for yourself the less they can sell you in the form of DLC, also in the case of Blizzard the concept of a game editor will haunt them till the end of time.

I don't understand. You have Lunar Magic, Doom Builder and the Hammer editor. Why do you need anything else? Learning all three of these programs will give you endless opportunity for showing your creativity to the world.

Besides that, learn game development. Even Source Filmmaker users eventually switched to industry programs.

Monster Prom, a multiplayer stat raising visual novel, has an in-game modding tool.
It's pretty cool, you can add events, ends, dialogues, characters, items, etc. which will show up in the base have.
That said, the game also has the worst modding community I've seen. They're all joke mods, but by 12 year old children with no sense of humor

Because Blizzard was too slow and stupid to capitalize on DOTA user map settings games, so they inadvertently created their own competitor.

because doing that would be like giving a torch to the caveman. Why the FRICK would you give a tool to an imbecile? Have you heard of job security? You want to squeeze the poor fricktard 80-250k before you pass your scraps on to them. Ideally they're too moronic/mentally ill to absorb your knowledge, and if they do, well you still made 80-250k. Frick the next generation, the one after, and the one after. Frick the world after me in general. I AM WHAT MATTERS. ME.

I like Divinity Original Sin's and Spellforce 3's. It's a shame a community didn't really sprout up around them. Hopefully Starfield will deliver with its creation kit.
