What game genre are you working on anons?
I've worked on simple games and stopped halfway through to work on another project and I've done this about....5 to 9 times. But this one I'm working is going to be the first one I finish for sure.
Why the fuck would I want to waste all that time and effort making a game? All I wanna do is play games
So you can create the perfect game for yourself.
I've been working on trying to remake secret of mana in gamemaker studio 2
so far it hasnt been going well, but i've had a lot of fun and have learned a lot. it has made me really appriciate the amount of work that goes into games
>i've had a lot of fun and have learned a lot.
That is nice point anon, no need to pollute saturated indie game market anyway.
I wish we could have teamed up a decade ago. I've tried this on and off for years. Downloaded every tool possible to try and get the assets neatly. Before anyone decides to be a smartass, no you cant just rip the sprites becuase of the way the spritemaps are used. Anon will understand. The weapons in particular are a fucking nightmare. Also, I'll save you some pain in advance anon, gms audio capabilites are SHIT.
>no you cant just rip the sprites becuase of the way the spritemaps are used. Anon will understand. The weapons in particular are a fucking nightmare.
yeah learned that the hard way, i feel your pain anon
I'm making a 3 bros in a row game with a twist.
I think I'm close to a functional prototype, then I can post webms and shit to get feedback.
It will be fun.
post in the /rpgm/ jam thread in /vg/. It's not just for RPGM games and it's not just for jams, but you'll probably get the most appreciation there.
I wish I could but I'm range banned from /vg/ for the time being.
I swear I didn't do anything wrong, one of my compatriots fucked me over.
lol what did you do though, it's anonymous nobody here cares did you post illegal shit like a retard?
Hey, I've gotten vacations before, but never on /vg/. I'm innocent.
okay but what did you do though, if you're just gonna play innocent prison victim don't bother replying I don't care about playing pretend
4 bros in a row.
Nah, I just have characters run back and forth like in Medarot, but they have stats closer to a western RPG with skills, perks and such. No dice rolls though, I'm not a fan of relying on 95% chance to hit crap.
The setting is like a round robin tournament so the idea is having fewer battles that are more meaningful while also allowing the player some leeway.
Mortal kombat 3 bros in a row?
Mortal Kombat has a single elimination tournament, you know, because they fight to the death. It's in the name, even.
A round robin is when everyone fight everyone else once.
3 bros in a row tft? That could be a hit
I reckon whoever wins something like that should be crowned the King of Fighters.
A turn based RPG. I've been trying to come up with a system that's very versatile and I THINK I'm getting there.
I'm working on a game in rpg maker and I'm at the part where I'm making the opening cutscene and my god I want to kill myself this shit is difficult.
I miss old graal
Metroidvania, you can never have enough of them so i might have to make two back to back because i just have that many innovative and novel ideas for them.
Metroidvanias are missing some settings. Or at least I've never seen a pre-historic or wild west themed one, so I'm down for more variety just in that aspect.
I want to play a metroidvania that takes place in a series of abandoned city buildings
RE2 meets metroid or something
I was thinking of something like that, something that plays similarly to TMNT 1 on the NES, but with one big open world.
survival horror metroidvania sounds neat!
an open world metroidvania is a good idea too!
honestly never even thought about setting, i just have some neat concepts i wanted to see in an ability gated game world
im burnt out from gamedev
more or less i can't do it anymore
I feel like I should tackle a flash esque game. What's the go to alternative these days for web games?
I have no idea what the kids are on, but this is what I used back in the day
3D action in Unreal.
I dont know can i make a game using only linux systems anons?! :O
And if its possible where or how do i start it?
See you in 5 years anons
I've been finishing up campaign missions. Almost halfway done with the singleplayer campaign.
Thanks for asking. I am actually inventing a whole new genre of video game. Since it is such a revolutionary genre, it is difficult to describe and I do not want to be too specific, lest it be stolen. If I had to say, it is like a mix of role-playing game and adventure game, with some trivia and educational elements. You will understand when you see my game in the Guiness Book of World Records, 2023 edition, under "Most Successful Video Game of All Time". The main character will be the papa bear from the Charmin commercials.
im making a ffv clone in rpgmaker 2003
i do t know how to code and use scripts but im getting there
Should actually be a breeze if it's JUST FFV mechanics and nothing else
Visual novel (?) with RPG elements, dunno man I find it hard to describe.
Working on a pokemon hack here and there, mostly mapping and ideaguying.
I want to make a simple rpg game. What engine should I use?
If you just want to make a simple game, there are game engines with templates, you don't even write code probably.
I only know rpg maker. There is another?
It says no coding required
I might sound like a dick but:
If you really wanna make a game YOU NEED TO CODE.
There is no fucking way out.
Is better to accept it rather than dodge the issue for god knows how much and then start to code.
It's true, tbh coding REALLY isnt that bad. it's painfully for that first bit, and only gets more painfully if you want to go above and beyond with build your own engine etc. just import shit and you should be fine
>If you really wanna make a game YOU NEED TO CODE.
It's not 1989 any more. Whole games have been made using visual scripting.
Take it from a boomer who's been trying to hammer any kind of traditional coding into his skull since the age of 12: it really is not for everyone.
I don't care which language you consider "babby easy", it will be extremely frustrating and undoable to me. Yeah, it sucks, but I've accepted this already years ago.
Meanwhile, I can pull all sorts of spaghetti scripts with Blueprints, 3D modeling tools' shader VS tools, Clickteam's spreadsheet-lookalike system, et cetera, and get things done in a matter of minutes.
If I want to make a more complex game in the future. What is the best language to learn? Any material recomendation?
It really doesn't matter, you can make a good game with any shit tool, if you're willing to dive headfirst you might as well use Raylib since you learn to use C you won't be restricted in anyway, no matter how insane your game idea is.
If you want results fast, you can take your pick of Clickteam Fusion, Gamemaker or RPG maker. Clickteam Fusion and Gamemaker both can pretty much do any 2D game within reasonable limits.
There is no best because things shift based on what type of game you will do, if it's 2d or 3d and features like multiplayer.
I have gone unity, and:
>has a TON of tutorials, assets, etc
>if you have a problem, 99% you will find a solution with a google search. The real problem at the beginning is to understand how to formulate a question
>has a bad rep if you use the free version because bad games use the free version
>but if you become competent it can be used for "real" games
In the beginning I suggest anyone to follow a complete course of something super easy. Like let's make pong or some shit like that
Also, beyond that follow some tutorial on the basics of C#. The real problem is the brick wall of the first month to beginning to understand the language itself.
I did the Godot 2D tutorial.
I'm going to make it bros.
I'm doing a scifi classicvania (aka a side scroller action game).
You have your standard rifle and a rework of the classic c1 subWeapons.
It should be on the next demo day
What's a good place to submit demos and such?
Itch.io seems like a popular place for demos
I got a job as an artist for an indie company that makes low effort trash games. At least it's a living
this is my idea for a less frustrating style of FPS game. instead of dying instantly, your life would be put on a timer.
I think it would make situations with lag a lot more palatable, as instead of instantly dying you would be given a good reason to go all out.
what do you guys think? would it be worth making a prototype? is there anything i havent considered?
I like it. But it's a multiplayer game, and it's suicide for a first project. Yes, you should make a prototype because every game it's a schrodinger situation, you will learn something new by building it, even pen&paper style
i was thinking i would just use roblox. they make all the multiplayer stuff really easy and its the setting i have the most experience with
I'm making a platformer!
Mocking up some UI stuff for the programmer to eventually put in, like a simple animation for when you hover over one of your consumable bags.
Gives it just a little bit of flavor of a bag being opened or closed, you know?
why are so many committed "indie" devs such giant gays?
done animation yesterday, got tired of it then create more 3D assets especially fine tuning main character
now doing music using renoise I've learn that remixing music just isn't good and legal enough
I'm doing endless on rail 3rd person spectacle fighter/shooter because I can't aim nor combo worth a damn
JRPG inspired by Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. Doing it in NES style because Im by myself and want to complete it in a short time vs never ever.
I've been generating random AI textures for hours now. This shit is addicting.
I wanna dev. I'm going through some stuff though. Any recommendations on creating accountability? Maybe a site where I can make myself accountable to other people?
Join game jams on itch
The concept of game jams make me anxious.
The FBI isn't going to break down your door if you don't submit a game in time. Its usually like a 6:1 ratio on participants:games every time anyways.
if you don't have self discipline get a job working for people that do
