It actually gets so bad that you can easily soft lock because the game stops being a role playing game and you played with a role that the first part of the game supports and the last part doesn't. I had to turn on god mode at the tzimische fight and keep it on because after that point in the game, it's just a combat game straight up. I had played through the entire game using nothing but stealth and hacking.
At least System Shock 2 had the courtesy of RPG build soft locking you in the tutorial so that you would only need to replay the first three minutes of the game, not the first 8 hours.

        Anonymous

I played the same way the first time as a Tremere and I had no problem finishing the game. There is enough skill points to put enough points in weapons to finish the game without enough hassle and I finished the whole game mainly melee and blood magik in combat.

I have like eight fricking playthroughs of the fricking thing, and this picture pretty much made me think of that game instantly.

this pic is better this way

Lots of build variety, lots of attention to detail and cool animation work, by all accounts great PvP quality... and swinging your weapon feels like fricking shit because the sound design and animations are anemic as sin, while at least one whole playstyle is pure garbage and the game frontloads every single ugly area it fricking has into the first half of it like it's TRYING to make you nauseated with it.

But by the time you go into outer space the story was so mind-blowingly terrible I wanted to slap every person who was responsible for that shit.
Still ended up finishing it thanks to original lockdown but I hated the last 1/4th of the game I wouldn't have continued playing ever again if it wasn't for lockdown and me forcing myself to finish it so I could give it fair criticism instead of shitting on it for 2 decades without ever having played it like I had been doing.

All survival games. They're either unfun from the get go (green hell) or become boring quickly because the game wasn't designed for the environment/monsters to be threatening but rather other players (ark, conan exiles, etc).

Dragon's Crown isn't really balanced for single player on the harder difficulties. You can still win solo on higher difficulties, but you're gonna have to put up with tons of bullshit and no matter how good you are, you will get hit by attacks that you just couldn't avoid because of the sheer amount of enemies they throw your way.
If you have friends to play with, then by all means tackle the harder difficulties and endgame. Otherwise, stick to the normal difficulty. You're not really missing out on much in terms of content. IIRC there's like 2-3 bosses exclusive to the endgame dungeon. But that's it. It's not worth the cheap bullshit that gets thrown at you on the higher difficulties to do it alone, especially if you aren't geared up.
It's still a very good game even if you only play the base difficulty. You get like 25-30 hours of fun content playing all 5 characters.

      Anonymous

Watch some endgame runs you'll see the players handling the content just fine solo.

Endwalker was asspull galore, but let's be honest, there was no way they were gonna tie a nice bow on literally 10 years of story without a giant helping of asspull after the direction the story took in ShB.
They at least managed to keep it engaging and interesting all the way through to the end and wrapped it up quite well, all things considered.
For that, I would call it honorary kino.

I think that even with build up it would've been just as moronic. I seriously hard dropped the game after it and never picked it back up.

I am still mesmerized by it to this day. Why did it need to exist?

        Anonymous

because ff8 is fricking moronic with nomuraitis. It does thing for rule of cool bullshit and no other reason. It's characters are interchangeable because none of them have a personality, the setting is moronic because because they don't actually care about anything fitting into the world and it's just the biggest shitfest imaginable. 8 is considered the worst ff for a goddamn good reason. Laguna is still cool though.

      Name it.

Never played 4, but 3 definitely falls off after Vaas.
      >excellent villain built up since the beginning
      >entire story builds up to your confrontation
      >finally kill him (which, tbh, in of itself is pretty shite since it's all done in cutscene/qte)
      >"Oh btw your brother is in another castle owned by Vaas' boss, go to another island to save him and kill someone you have only heard of twice before."

You just spent 2 fricking hours on the climax only to go back to square one on a completely new island and fight someone that has had 0 influence on the plot outside of some passing world building. It's a complete slog and any time I try to go back I drop it right after Vaas dies.

That story mode in Smash Bros Brawl completely shits itself at the final stage by making you play a giant dungeon where you refight every boss and character in the game. It would have made a great postgame mode but being forced to do it just before the final boss is insanity.

You don't need to min max, you can have a half assed hybrid build with shitty perks and still get past depot A on normal.

The point of depot A is showing you that the game is unforgiving. Combat encounters only get more deadly afterwards. It's no different than dumbasses making charismatic talkers and getting owned in the temple of trials in fallout 2.

If you want the game to be a cakewalk beatable with any build, even ones that suck at killing things (in a game where you're outnumbered 99% of the time and defending yourself is a necessity) then play on easy.

And the second part wasnjust complete horse shit since the whole premise was "Its all in this computer simulation". Its just as disappointing as a good horror movie where it turns outnit was all just in a dudes head.

Blizzard even managed to ruin levelling now, thanks to scaling each time you level up it's another rancid blast of gas to remind you what you're digging towards.
        >get off the boat at level 60, in your shiny last expansion purples
        >the mobs die pretty fast, but are tougher than the ones from before
        >the greens you find are terribly itemised but have about 5 times the stamina compared to last expac
        >go up a level, you don't get any stronger because all your power comes from gear, every mob now goes up a level as well, and gets more health and damage
        >repeat 9 times, you're now in a random clown suit because you need bigger numbers, you actively feel weaker than you were at 60, a level 60 fresh off the boat can kill you near instantly thanks to PvP scaling
        >mobs are now scaled to max, but you're in a collection of mismatched level gear since every reward scaled to whatever you were at the moment you got it
        >get in the wheel, hamster, the "real game" starts here

Okay I'll entertain with a serious answer.

Metal Gear Solid 4 after Act 2. The first two acts have the best MGS gameplay, then Act 3 becomes a escort stealth mission followed by cutscenes, then nostalgic pandering with a lame robot boss fight, then finally the game gets good again with one of the best final boss fights followed by the dumbest ending where it's a near one hour exposition dump because of all the stupid plot holes in the whole series up to that point.

I'm so glad MGS5 just cutout the bullshit story and let the player play the game.

Sands of Destruction does a complete 180 at around the 2/3rds mark. Its a decent rpg before then
    >the story which up until this point has been about destroying the world instead of saving it, becomes about saving it including fighting god
    >the combat balance completely falls apart as the player unlocks chaining light attacks to build up infinite special and constantly shit out super moves, sometimes multiple times in a single turn. This works on every character and is basically part of normal progression.
