Say what you will about Horizon's actual story or gameplay, but this is one of the darkest twists I've ever seen in a game

I never played horizon but why is it surprising enough to be called a twist. From the premise alone I gathered robots might've killed humanity.

That's not even close to the main plot twist. Other than the obvious woke political shit like a bunch of strong independent leader girl bosses and the entire tribes of Black folk that are the peaceful ones that are in harmony with nature, the world building and main overaching lore of Horizon is very good. The story really jumped the shark at the end of the second game, though.

yes they are, Aloy is a clone of a female scientist from when the apocalypse happened but that's the only different person, the rest are natural humans

AI run Arks that would create and raise humans.

Problem is that a rich frick deleted all the history AIs because he didn't want to be remembered as the fricker that caused the robot apocalypse

Even worse, the humans at the time put Black person dna into the vaults.

It's a shame about all the in your face globohomosexual because behind it all the first game had really interesting and engaging world building. First open world in a decade where I was excited to learn more about what had happened.

But the politics were so strong I never bothered with the sequel despite liking the first.

The Sci-fi story is very good.
The problem with the Horizon world is the characters. You are surrounded by literal Black folk and that would be hell.

The real problem is that they think their new IP can compete with the likes of Zelda or Fromsoft. Were it me I would've simply said "Uh, we're delaying the game for a month so we can work out some bugs, totally doesn't have anything to do with Breath of the Wild or Elden Ring coming out." then go on a month long vacation then release HFD or HFW.

what would it take for animals to kill us? there are tons of animals that could wreck humans but what would it take for them to kill us all?

      Anonymous

That's a good question. I suppose it would require a huge boom in prey population, followed by a boom in predator population, and then a sudden decrease in prey population forcing those preds to attack humans rather than starve.

For example, there's been a huge boom in the feral hog population, and in Florida and Louisiana, there's been a smaller boom in the gator population who've been snacking on bacon on the hoof. Now that they're trying to manage and decrease the feral hog population, those gators are gonna need to eat something.

there's really only one or two things that you might need to know before playing 2 and the recap movie tells you them all. i played the first one on ps4 years ago, didnt remember much, watched the recap movie and have been playing 2 since.

I've got a 4080 and going to play on PC so I should be fine. I'm inbetween games at the moment and I feel like this would fit right in.

well excuse me mr moneybags here i was with my 3090 thinking i was cool. have fun though kek.

I wanted a GPU that was at least 2x stronger than my old 1080ti so I went with a 4080. I was thinking of the 4090 at first but then the power draw and the size of it ticked me off since I didn't even know if it would fit in my case.
I always wanted to get into VR so with the money difference I bought a headset. Well guess what, the 4080 isn't strong enough to drive most (good) vr games at 6k resolution.
So now I got a new headset, which should arrive in 2 weeks or so with all the accessories I want and I don't really have the will to play anything so I figured some classic flat games would do the trick since I haven't touched one in a year.

its my fault im used to being seen as "high tier" in gpu/pc threads where most people are on 10/16/20 series etc. i wouldnt mind getting a 4080 super if my 3090 sold for enough to offfset the losses but i dont think it will even fit in my case. i like my case and dont want a bigger one. plus my 3090 does all i want it to do so not upgradin but when i do feel the need i dont know what to upgrade to everything is either too expensive, wont fit in my case (4080/4090) or both.
                >gAyMD
i use premiere pro and stablediffusion which from till the end of time people swear nvidia/cuda is better for so...yea

                tl;dr enjoy Aloy(is cute. C.U.T.E!!!)'s game

I don't think there was anything wrong with the 3090 when you got it. It boast a massive amount of VRAM which was really standing out at the time.
I've seen them go for 600-700$ used on ebay so if you're really keen on selling you old one I'm sure you'll find a buying in time before the 5xxx series launches.

                >I've seen them go for 600-700$ used on ebay
thats how i got it actually lol $700 like a year ago. runs great. another reason i want to do the trade up to something higher while the 3090 street price is still similar to what i paid but nvidia no like small number and things will likely only get worse.

The worldbuilding was good and the only interesting thing about HZD but I feel like it lost a lot of the magic by making the entire plot revolve around it instead of having it in the background as flavor. There was no subtlety, no mystery. Also having Aloy be the messiah was a big mistake because she's incredibly unlikeable (and not just because she's ugly)

      >back to normal
Don't get this. First games were measured in kbs to mbs in the dos days. Doom was 2.39mb and this was 30 years ago. Then games stopped being mb and you needed cds cause they were all 500+mb, it was recognized as progress. This was about 5 years later. Then we went from 5-700mb with the occasional multidisc titles going a bit over 2gb, to a minimum of a gb to tens of gbs about 15 years ago. It was progress when the games went into 10s of gb to around a hundred too. This was about a decade ago now.
10 years since then, and only now are we seeing 100gb become the norm. This isn't anything but slow and steady progress.
Be glad you weren't buying computer parts in the 90s.

The video records leading you to thinking they had a plan, until revealing the plan was to not fight it and let everyone die, was pretty well executed. The sense of despair was palpable.

    >even if you somehow managed to hide from the robots you're going to die anyway because they ate all plant and wild life
    >robots die because they got nothing to eat anymore

i enjoy extinction stories, also it was surprising how they actually managed to make this setting work

    >Say what you will about Horizon's actual story or gameplay, but this is one of the darkest twists I've ever seen in a gam

The dark twist was that humanity totally could have survived, but Elizabet pursued Zero Dawn and told everyone else it was unavoidable so she could monopolize humanities resources to build her vision of a gigantic nature-focused AI-Goddess.

If the Zeniths could survive in deep space long enough to get to another star, humanity definitely could have built some self-contained bunkers on Earth, which is easier to survive on given you would still have the protection of Earth's magnetic field and access to geothermal energy.

Zero Dawn wasn't simply about preserving life, it was about creating a reset button for humanity, a chance to "raise" an entire generation "right and proper". No dissenting thought, no corporate greed, just humanity, nature, and their benevolent AI-Goddess making sure everything goes smoothly forever. Oh, and we filled every cradle with a menagerie of ethnicities because everyone should be as racially enlightened and diverse as the US and Europe.

I think you are reading a little too much into the story. Which is terrible, by the way. You are seeing depth where in reality, it's just saturday morning cartoon.
Faro is just a cartoonish villain. The swarm is just a cheap plot ploy, and Elisabeth was just the good guy. The game intended no further depth to the setup. You could argue rationally that things should be otherwise, but you are making up things the writer themselves haven't thought of.

        Anonymous

Oh I'm aware, because otherwise Faro kind of had a point in wiping Apollo to prevent passing on our own interpretation of "culture" and how the future generation of pod people should act. They had to bring him back as a serial-murdering bunker monster left to the imagination to hammer the point home. Its just the weirdest setting to spend time in when you read between the lines and ask obvious questions like how a racially diverse gaggle of pod people doesn't meld in to a brown gaggle of people after a few generations, or why Aloy is the only person with any idea what the world was like when focuses are lying all over the place.
