WoL unironically had so much soul. Esports peaked around that time when events were entertaining to watch back then since presenters, commentators and players had fun with nowhere near as much restrictions.

Almost everything they added in HotS was badly thought out. Who the fuck likes widow mines, oracles, swarm hosts? Who thought mutalisks needed to be faster and regenerate faster? The entire game design was to force long macro games and focus on attacking mineral lines.
There were so many weird design choices. Reapers were completely broken, then nerfed into uselessness, thors were garbage against mutalisks after magic boxing was discovered, archon toilet destroyed everything, and so on and so forth. It also took blizzard a billion years to implement skins to attract more normalfags.
