Makes no sense.

Capcom always makes their games replayable. Its something they thought about since day 1.

I would've thought being short helped make it replayable?

fuck this shit game. Imagine how beautiful 7th gen games would've been if it wasn't for RE4 and NFS MW.

Funny how the brown&bloom era was the peak of the console vidya industry

the early 7th gen (2005-2007) was peak 3D gaming. the late 7th gen was just COD FPS goyslop. and it was great IN SPITE of brown and piss

the brown and piss era of gaming
that era started with all the stupid fucking military shooters

The biggest problem with brown and bloom shit era was they forgot to have contrast

Devil May Cry 3 has mostly monochrome brown or grey levels and people forget this entirely because of how well the enemies and characters have bright defining colors

Gears tries this with the bright blue LED's of the cogs and the bright red and yellow lights of the Locust, but it's mostly tiny little flairs on brown ass game

Even RE4, for such a brown game, has the excuse of most of the enemies having a weird dark blue tinge to their clothing and super bright skin to pop out on the background, once you see it you can't unsee it.

But games like Resistance 2? Modern Warfare 2? Killzone? Bright yellow enemies in piss yellow environments, dark green splotch enemies in dark green environments, drab grey enemies in drab gray environments (with neon LEDs)

There's a real difference once games started trying realistic colored lighting, I don't think most PS2 games even count

People only remember DMC3 because the cutscenes and then they wank around in Bloody Palace. The first DMC is only an hour or two long which is the perfect game length.

And just because I'm an autist here's picture proof

        Resistance 2 vs RE4 and DMC3

Screenshots are black and white and then blurred to test contrast

RE4 has clearly defined humans that are unnaturally bright, so they pop out of the dingy background
DMC3 does the same, you can see 2/3 enemies on screen.

Resistance 2 here has one highly visible enemy and there's 4 enemies in this screenshot lmao they all blend in

Why can't linear games be replayable?

      Anonymous

even if it's your first playthrough
How so? It took me 20 hours to finish. After several replays I took it down to 10-12 hours range.

That's the funny part. Most replayable games are linear.

I don't understand what makes RE4 so "replayable" for people.
What, the guns? Any game could be considered "highly replayable" if you count every weapon as another playthrough.
I beat it once and left it at that, there's nothing compelling me to ever play it again, in fact there's more "that part"s in RE4 than any other game I've ever played that makes me never want to touch it again.

The game's still not short enough. It might be good for a yearly replay or something but not back to back. I'd rather replay the mercenaries.

      >how are residen evil games replayable?
      Multiple characters.
      Multiple routes.
      Multiple endings.
      Multiple unlockable bonuses.
      Fun, varied gameplay.

I've replayed the 1998 OG RE2 some 50+ times. Only SH1 and 2 get close to that.

      >i finished like 6 of them
Lemme guess... all made AFTER the RE4, no ?

Its replayability comes from how good the gameplay is + a pinch of aim RNG: unlike the remake, in the original bullets always hit exactly where you're aiming but your aim wiggles unless you move the laser. So the optimal way to play is aim and shoot immediately without waiting, and it's very satisfying. The game is also a tactical shooter: if you're cornered, you're 100% guaranteed to get yourself out of trouble if you hit an enemy in the head. And since headshots always stun the enemies without fail, you can exploit that to use melees with precise timing and hit multiple enemies at once. It's a legendary game that people will still be enjoying a hundred years from now contrary to the watered down remake with crappy controls (Leon is faster in the original despite the tank controls, cope).

The remake not having such easy reliable iframe stuns that hard knockdowns everyone within a 50ft radius of Leon is an improvement. Re4 is piss easy even on pro

    >game is almost completely linear
    Yeah, linear is fine.
    >short even if it's your first playthrough
Define short. My first playthrough was upwards of around 14 hours. I imagine RE4 is one of the longer RE games alongside CV and 6.
    >people cite it as one of the most replayable games in general
New Game + is fun. Trying out new weapons and unlocking bonus weapons. Learning new tricks and shortcuts. That's a tradition of RE.
