I feel HL2 was really well playtested and thought out right up to this point where they clearly ran out of time to polish. Lots of buggy scripted moments that don't trigger properly and this awful fight.

Nah, he's right. On reflection everything was pretty tight until this point and then the walkers just sketch out all over the place. It's a good observation.
stop coping and samefagging, you are just bad. this section was rad as fuck even more if you first try it
it would be fine if you had to fight like 3 or 4 stalkers
not 10
they're just walking gunships anyway. You do the rocket launcher aiming minigame so many times, over and over
ok ill agree with you, but this was kino in my book
>game quality nosedives
Fable 3 was just a nosedive after 1/TLC and 2.
was kino for me, game difficulty spike right in the end felt cool
It's not hard, though. You do realize Striders only do damage with the last couple of shots in a burst? All the other shots are purely cosmetic. They do 0 damage.
but this whole thread is complaining about this part, im assuming its because they are getting rekt by the strider
It's because the part is boring. You rush to a rocket container, and that's an okay part, but once you get to a container it's peak-fire-peak-fire.
the stalker fights are pretty tedious
lots of spamming rockets from behind cover, over and over, goes on way too long
Honestly I find most sections in half life go on too long. The rocket stuff, gravity gun, ant lions, the boat part, every section has a cool concept that they make sure to run into the fucking ground so hard you're begging for the gimmicky gameplay to do something different by the time you get to a new level.
I think ant lions are good
otherwise yeah. One of the big problems is that there aren't enough guns, especially late game. Fighting the same enemies with the same guns over and over gets old.
hl1 did it better, more late game weapons, more interesting energy weapons and alien weapons, and more enemy variety. hl2 is still good, but there's so much less variety
maybe you are just bad anon and got frustrated if you tried to beat this part again and again, then made an excuse in your head to justify your anger
Nah the guy above you is right. They take way way to many rockets, it's not hard, it's tedious
HL2 just sucks in general. Can't believe people enjoy the game
>follow freeman chapter
>strider fight
>awful
I fucking despise this place
Yeah HL2 is pretty low on the FPS games score. The only other franchise during this early 2000s era that came close to Halo's enjoyment was TimeSplitters.
OP here
>HL2 is pretty low on the FPS games score
nah, horseshit. HL2 mogs 99% of FPSes. Including Halo which is a bore.
one shit chapter doesn't make everything leading up to it bad. Better to have a game that's fun most of the way through and then stumbles than a game that's a boring repetitive slog the whole run like Halo
pretty much
>hl2 bad
>standard for FPS games is halo
die
>enter thread about hl2 bad and complain
it's reasonable to be able to criticize half life 2
comparing it to halo however is ridiculous
nah it was incredibly boring and its legacy is defined as boring
nah
yeah even japanese vtubers hated it yet they still stream old halo games
>people with chronically shit taste in games dislike a good game
shocking
hl2 has mediocre chapters but its good chapters are so much better than anything in the entire halo franchise its not even worth the comparison
HL2 incorporated a silent protagonist terribly compared to HL1
The final version of HL2 was put together in a year. What else but disappointment can you expect?
Chapter 11 is the worst in the game by far, yes.
The sad part is that due to so many updates to the source engine over the years and not enough care to go over all the old stuff its really hard to tell what was
>broken in release
>still broken post patches
>was broken by some random engine wide update made for tf2/gmod/dota2 that shouldn't have broken anyting but still did
Its mostly over now because of source 2 but still a pretty unique situation
at least the citadel was pretty good
last-minute uber powerups are pretty kino
The big fight in the city was the only good part of the original game. Episode 1 and 2 blow it out of the water. Half Life 2 was just over praised because of pedigree, technology, and for being a big PC game at a time where that didn't exist.
>Great job playtesters! Driving the airboat/car for six hours and all, I can see your NEET education really paying for itself!
playing Half-Life 2 for the first time immediately after Half-Life 1 was shocking experience. I can' t fucking believe how awful it is.
shut the fuck up you contrarian retard your post isnt even worth anything other than calling you retarded
>muh tech demo
you retards cry tech demo about anything thats good and not a shit rehash of the last game
Half-Life 2 felt like a tech demo for Valve's new engine.
75% of the game are just long ass drives for no other reason than to show off technical capabilities of Source engine.
Episode 1 and 2 felt more like an actual game than the original campaign.
People preferred the HL2 beta concept to the final version we got but i'd reckon if Valve stick to the original plan, it would be a Duke Nukem Forever-tier development disaster.
The whole strider portion is one of the last parts they did and it really shows, for the longest time they couldn't figure out how to make fighting them fun and they clearly didn't want to cut them so this is what we got, shittier gunship fights where you camp near boxes of infinite rockets
