My dad got my a PS2 and ffx, but no memory card. In despiration, I tried to use my original ps1 memory card to see if it would work. I deleted all of my save games to free up enough space to save my ffx game, but lo and behold it didn't work

      damn

I also have an ffx story, mine isn't as good as yours though. I got FFX and I was unbelievably hyped to play it. But I didn't have a memory card.
I played it anyway. I left the PS2 anon for like 3 days before someone finally turned it off.
The funniest part is I didn't know how the sphere grid worked so I just played it without ever touching it and got as far as Mi'hen Highroad. Yes I was doing a No-SG run as a 10-year-old

    >get gameboy micro
    >want to play mario land 2 but cart doesn't fit
    >look into the slot and see small notch
    >take micro apart and file down the notch
    >think i've outsmarted nintendo and hacked my gameboy
Obviously it didn't work, but it wasn't "broken". Still played GBA games just fine.

The micro actually contains the gbc hardware for the most part. The only thing missing is the 5v for the carts(gba carts use 3.3v). There are ways to get the micro to switch into gbc mode and show the boot logo. Can't do anything beyond that, though.

Once I removed the transfer cable before it was complete, the result was that the Pokémon we were transferring got duplicated and the other lost. Pretty cool discovery, I think it was fairly reproducible too.

That was a well know way of cloning pokemon, although, most people just turned off one gameboy.

The year was 1992. My family had gotten some money from a grandparent specifically to buy a computer. Was a decent machine, and it's how I got started on computers and computer gaming, and learned all about DOS. I noticed we had about 570KBs of RAM free, and more than a few games were complaining about it. While poking around one day, I found a configuration tool for the video-card drivers. Including some settings to lower the amount of RAM the drivers used. I turned it down to minimum, saved, reboot, and BOOM, 601KBs of RAM free! More games worked, everything was great.
Then my dad went to go use Windows 3.1 and found the video settings were all fricked up. No problems, I hopped back into the config tool, set things back to as they were, and Windows 3.1 was happy again. This went back and forth a few times over some months. The computer kept getting slower and slower. RAM was down to 530KBs free. We ended up having a tech-savvy friend take a look at it.
The "driver config tool" wasn't. It was actually a program used to automatically add a specific driver setting string to the autoexec.bat. Every time it was ran, it added another instance of the driver and didn't remove the old ones. DOS was dying trying to have 18 instances of the same driver loaded.

One time my little brother was playing ff8 around 2001 and it was my turn to play so I basically took the controller from him and saved his game, but I saved it by muscle memory and wrote over my own saves.

Lmao I did this but in opposite order. Saved over my step brother with mine. He was like on disc 3 of FF7 and I just left Midgar. He was so pissed and acted like such a homosexual that he ended up doing it back to me on my own save and other games. Don't even talk to him anymore.

I had OCD when I was younger so I'd turn on-off-on-off my lightswitch and other weird shit.

So I did it with my PS1 and a memory card full of hundreds of hours of JRPG saves.

That's how I cured my OCD.

i had kind of the same problem i think. i dont know but i feared to put my speakers to maximum and it was driving me insane. i told my mother about it and soon after my dad came in and turned the volume to max. it was very loud but that shit healed me and i never thought about it at all

I wanted to see what would happen if I cut the cable with a scissor on my ps1 controller while the game is running.

It didn't exactly fry the controller port, but the inputs were all wrong no matter what controller I used

I’m absolutely cursed from ever completing FF7 because something deletes my save every time. Even the PC version, my hard drive gets shit on by the forces of nature.

Get a switch and buy the port to test it. Worst case scenario your switch dies.

    >get Pokemon Red and spend the afternoon playing it myself, then take it to Granny's house that evening
    >let a cousin start a new game assuming it would be fine as Mario Land 2 and Warioland both had three save files
    >discover they've overwritten the only slot on the cart
I couldn't believe it'd only allow one save file
I still can't believe they don't have multiple saves per account
or that they still won't include the option for cartoon-accurate cries

    >get a gamecube with an aftermarket pelican memory card
    >don't think much of it
    >play for months, unlock everything in smash melee
    >having shitloads of fun
    >turn the console on one day
    >all my smash data is gone
    >freak the FRICK out, get irrationally angry
    >saves for other games are fine
    >get an official memory card
    >eventually i gather willpower to go back to melee
    >unlock everything again in a week
    >18 years later, still have my shit

Same thing happened to me. I used to like shutting off my power really quickly after saving like timing it so it powers off at the right time, one time I did it too early and lost my FFX save.

Super Metroid on startup dumps its SRAM to RAM, then overwrites all SRAM, then does a checksum on SRAM, and only copies the RAM back to SRAM if it passes the check.
this is supposed to catch pirated games.
if you turn your console off while it's starting up it could interrupt the check and you could lose all your data

i know this because i disassembled the boot code
