The real question is why there are so many kids that are growing up with severe autism these days.
We've always had people once a while that just weren't "there", but it seems like there's WAY more of them in today's age. What the frick happened?

society has begun trying to integrate them rather than throwing them in a ditch as soon as they're born weird

        >The real question is why there are so many kids that are growing up with severe autism these days.
Well one thing is the visibility of them. There is a "plague" of autism in the world, but that one is entirely based around people who are (mis)diagnosed with mild forms. The actually severe autism cases are still more or less the same.

The big difference is that people generally tended to hide them, while now there is an active push for them brought up to public awareness a lot. There was a mixture of taboo and general disinterest in the subject until late eightees. Then there was a rapid surge of public interest following the absurd success of Rain man, and after that the whole neuro-diversity shit kicked in.

Plus the rise of internet and overal shift in media further makes them much more visible. Internet does actually allow even fairly severe autists communicate and have a public presence when IRL contexts would not.

So yeah. There is a massive spike in so called "mild" cases of autism - mostly because hundreds of thousands of them are misdiagnosed - but when it comes to more severe cases, it's an illusion.
They were always there, you just did not get many opportunities to see them.

Idea that autism is overdiagnosed is laughable.
Why do you speak with such confidence about something you have no fricking clue about?

            Anonymous

            >Idea that autism is overdiagnosed is laughable.
It's REALLY not. There is a reason why the map of sudden, often 300% increase in diagnostics of autism tends to faithfully follow local political maps. And there is a reason why this only happens in countries more heavily influenced by the anti-psychiatry movement, and does not affect countries that were spared.

            >Why do you speak with such confidence about something you have no fricking clue about?
Because I have a lot of experience with this. I've been working with autists as a volunteer since I was 18 years old, and I took a lot of interest in the subject. Which was quite a stroke of good luck, because now I have an autistic child in my close family circle, and given my previous experiences, I'm tasked to help out with him a lot.

Severe autism is pretty hard to misdiagnose, but milder parts of the spectrum are incredibly easy. There is a reason why it's a spectrum, there is a fluent gradient between normality and diagnosis that has no clear borders.

This is ESPECIALLY problematic in light of the ongoin attachement crisis, which creates behavioral and social abnormalities that nobody wants to address and can be very easily shuffled under DDS, despite the fact that they have no neurocognitive foundation, they are purely behavioral issues.

compare your ramblings to what autistic people are saying about it, then think hard why there is a mismatch

              >fluent gradient between normality and diagnosis that has no clear borders
if you think that this would lead to overdiagnosis rather than underdiagnosis, it's time to work on your logical thinking skills

                Anonymous

                >compare your ramblings to what autistic people are saying about it, then think hard why there is a mismatch
Yeah, let's ask the mentally disfunctional people their thoughts on their diagnosis, and not the people who take care of them and actually developed the process of diagnostics.
                Great idea!
Ever thought of asking narcissists their thoughts about the stigmatization and their general feelings about this diagnosis while we are at it.

Kid, I have spend, no joke, tens of thousands of hours with autistic people. ACTUAL fricking autistic people, mild and severe. And I can assure you that annoying poorly socialized brats that wave around their autism badges because it made their single moms feel less guilty about their failure as a parent, aren't really autists.

Again. There is a reason why a NEUROCOGNITIVE DISORDER has been experiencing actual fricking epidemics and they were all without exception, related to closely tied to political and social trends.
Because I come from country with actually good psychiatric care. We can fricking track this.

I don't care how much you want others to feel sorry for you and your meaningless diagnosis, because unfortunately, I have to deal with real fricking thing on now daily basis.

So sorry for not respecting your very special snowflake badge, but where I live, you need more than a incompetent parent begging a psychologist to slap some label on their annoying spawn to actually diagnose DSS.

Normality however WOULD lead to more diagnoses though. Normalcy of problems makes people less self-conscious of said problems. This does not however remove the perceived problem and would not lead to more people ignoring it.
Socially speaking, HFA has become normalized in the sense that everyone is fine with people having it, not so much however people displaying HFA behavioral patterns.

Because they don't, modern doctors are not good at their jobs and would rather toss pills around then actually work. That is the mild cases, not the severe ones. The severe ones... you can't really mistake a "kid just being a kid" for having an actual severe autistic disorder.
Though I do know one case where a girl was misdiagnosed with Schizophrenia instead of the actual quite severe autism she had. And they did not actually realize their error until she was like 35, married and with two children.

Everyone is autistic in one way or another. Before people were a lot more self conscious about it so they do their best to be normal, but people don't care anymore.

The actual answer is that more people are diagnosed as autistic because the condition is better understood. In the past, they would be diagnosed as moronic or just dismissed as weird.
Yes there are more false positives than ever, and sure, there is a greater proportion of geriatric pregnancies now, but the main reason is just more knowledge.

          >The actual answer is that more people are diagnosed as autistic because the condition is better understood
Again, this only works for the mild cases, and even there it's... questionable, and definitely not the whole answer.

But he was asking about SEVERE autism, and that shit isn't something you can just dismiss as being weird, and we had that shit nailed down pretty well in terms of diagnostics since the 60's.

        Unironically da jooz.
I assume by "autistic" you just mean the spergy kind and not the "steps in his own shit" kind. Let me offer an explanation from a genuine sperg.
My parents had me when my mom was in her 30s and my dad was in his mid 50s. My father was j*wish and my mom converted when she married him. I was circumcised at birth and brought up in a sheltered environment where they hired nannies to do all the parenting for me while they went out on their rich socialite adventures. They pumped me full of meds from a young age to the point where I now have withdrawals. They instilled in me old, outdated judeo-christian values which alienated me from my peers and took me forever to see past.
This is your brain on westoid degeneracy. This is your brain on judaism.
I've long since turned my back on Yahweh.

          >explosion->sound->shockwave
Well the sound of an explosion is just the air movement caused by the explosion, which is the shockwave. In fact I think one the definitions of shockwave is that it's a rapid pressure change moving faster than the local speed of sound.
So the idea of hearing an explosion before being hit by the shockwave seems to be (at least to a degree) a cinematic invention.

This is actually pretty funny in a sort of antihumor way. The jokes themselves aren't funny but it's hilarious that it's just the same punchline over and over.

Norm MacDonald would have been able to read these jokes and deliver them in a way that would be funny.

Norm isn't anti-humor. He just a master of punch line delivery and story telling that he takes seemingly unfunny things and makes them funny. He's even spoken against the whole "anti humor" thing in his old podcast.

The exact amount of text is probably a slight exaggeration overall, but it captures the tone and the way they pointlessly drag things on perfectly.

100% of this publisher's Minecraft books are cheap cash grabs for shitty retail stores like Kmart.
