I put thousands of hours into that game and wouldn't recommend anyone play it. It's the epitome of "It gets good after X hours." Early game is a slog of mindless, boring missions where you just shoot bullet sponge enemies and deal with (still) broken environment tilesets that the devs never felt like fixing. The mid game is spent grinding endlessly for parts and mods, desperately hoping that your 20th attempt will give you a part for a frame that you then need to wait literal days to actually craft. End game is constantly reworking your entire mod set up because the devs like to "rebalance" the game every five minutes, while also trying to keep up with all the new, nearly mandatory gimmicks the devs shove into the game.
There were plenty of moments where it was a goddamn blast, and it really does scratch that itch for people who enjoy grinding in games. Hell, I'd argue that Warframe is a genuinely fun game. Sporadically. During specific patches. When the devs aren't shoving a new gimmick they'll abandon in a month down your throat. When RNG is in your favor. And when shit isn't bugging out so hard you fall through the world.
I enjoyed the early game because you actually feel the progression and the resulting power up.

Lob corp was harder, the hard part of Ruina isn't even the deckbuilding itself but understanding how stuff like the light and emotion system works when the game only gives you a basic useless explanation and I only got how it really works by the end of the game.
Also Ruina was easily one of the best singleplayer card games I've played and it pisses me off that almost every other card game nowadays forgets to give their cards actual interesting art and names to the point they are no different than just skills in an RPG which defeats the point of having cards in the first place.
I think a bigger hurdle is that it's a story-focused game that relies heavily on the player having completed a very hard game from a completely different genre.
This goes for any and all persona games, I personally enjoyed some of the characters but 5 in particular embodies the ‘waiting around to unlock the actual content’ the other games suffer from.

It’s unironically one of my all time favourite games and I play it like an ultra casual, mostly doing solo shit or events, or leveling new characters. It’s got one of the most mindbroken, hostile “communities” ever as everyone knows, but I don’t partake in that, I just like questing and getting cool armors.
Its really is a sandbox of games. Sure they keep adding goals and objectives but those aren't really fun to do. Role-playing and immersing yourself in the world is awesome and when you tailor your settings for your playstyle the game becomes a very relaxing, a bit harsh survival game with very fun customization and building options. I haven't tried the new purge, hopefully there are still times the game randomly attacks you. I tried an ambush mod but broke my relaxation.
The resource collection is somehow fun when it shouldn't be. The exploring and traveling is more fun then it should be. The combat is more fun then it should be. A bunch of really mid systems come together really well and the progression systems built on these systems feel rewarding.
Every playthrough is unique and fun, but its definently not for everyone. There are also some really funny glitch and bugs that I know would ruin some peoples enjoyment
I feel like a lot of my old favorites have really genuinely shitty gameplay.
Deadly Premonition, Drakengard, Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, etc. Just depends on whether you can look past the awful combat in favor of weird atmosphere and fun character writing

Loved this game. Had to cave look up how to beat some of the final parts though. So I guess I got a little filtered.

This goes for any and all persona games, I personally enjoyed some of the characters but 5 in particular embodies the ‘waiting around to unlock the actual content’ the other games suffer from.
I will never encourage someone to sit through 4/5 ‘you did x thing with this character’ to unlock a 3 minute conversation with them. Half the game is spent waiting for dungeons to unlock and wasting days when your energy gets low in them

I think you can recommend it to skilled gamers as it can be difficult to get into. I recommended it to a friend and he liked it.
It's less about the mechanical difficulty (although it definitely is difficult) and more about the overall atmosphere. It's basically constant stress and misery, even your victories amount to managing to survive another day instead of beating some epic Souls boss fight; there's only like three moments in the entire game where you can actually relax.

It’s unironically one of my all time favourite games and I play it like an ultra casual, mostly doing solo shit or events, or leveling new characters. It’s got one of the most mindbroken, hostile “communities” ever as everyone knows, but I don’t partake in that, I just like questing and getting cool armors.
FFXIV since my enjoyment of it came exclusively from progressing content with a likeminded group of madlads that eventually grew past the game.
Conan Exiles.
Its really is a sandbox of games. Sure they keep adding goals and objectives but those aren't really fun to do. Role-playing and immersing yourself in the world is awesome and when you tailor your settings for your playstyle the game becomes a very relaxing, a bit harsh survival game with very fun customization and building options. I haven't tried the new purge, hopefully there are still times the game randomly attacks you. I tried an ambush mod but broke my relaxation.
The resource collection is somehow fun when it shouldn't be. The exploring and traveling is more fun then it should be. The combat is more fun then it should be. A bunch of really mid systems come together really well and the progression systems built on these systems feel rewarding.
Every playthrough is unique and fun, but its definently not for everyone. There are also some really funny glitch and bugs that I know would ruin some peoples enjoyment
I feel like a lot of my old favorites have really genuinely shitty gameplay.
Deadly Premonition, Drakengard, Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, etc. Just depends on whether you can look past the awful combat in favor of weird atmosphere and fun character writing

Decent metroidvania with really good bossfights that mix metroidvania and bullet hell but its all mixed with an autistic visual novel and anime art style that normalfags hate
went into this with somewhat high expectations because it looked pretty and had a high score. Turned out to be pretty bland and boring for the most part. It was still interesting enough to keep me playing it until the end, but there's far better metroidvanias out there.
