No, it's a combination of celtic "ganon" which means beautiful, fair and also had the connotation of "promised, destined ruler" and the germanic "dorf" which means "city" or fortress
Which makes even more sense when you consider that when Ganondorf unleashes his full power, he drops the -dorf part since there is no "fortress" anymore, only pure demon.

      >Call him Ganondorf
      >Castle is still called "Ganon's Castle/Ganon's Tower"

Based on LTTP, one could assume that Ganondorf was under the same magic that warped the rest of the people who ended up in the Dark World. So just as Link's Dark World form was a harmless pink bunny, Ganondorf's was a giant, greedy pig.
Granted, this falls apart once you look at the first two games, unless you assume that Ganon was just stuck like that due to Triforce Shenanigans. Said Shenanigans or similar sources of power are also why he turns into a giant pig in later games.

        >unless you assume that Ganon was just stuck like that due to Triforce Shenanigans.
The Valiant comics based on the cartoons went with this angle. Granted, this is from before ALTTP came out and the only lore they had to work from are the first two NES games.

He was literally Ganondorf back in A Link to the Past, you need some hardcore revision to get rid of that name.

        >Given that it's not explained at all
It was back in the ALttP manual and backstory; Ganondorf was a thief who snuck into the Golden Land and stole the Triforce. Mind you, that story got changed a bit with OoT, but it's always been Ganondorf the human and then Ganon the pig-demon.

Is Phantom Ganon Phantom Ganon or Phantom Ganondorf?

      Anonymous

Phantom Ganon is Phantom Ganon, obviously. Otherwise Phantom Ganon wouldn't be Phantom Ganon.
Phantom Ganon's Ganon is Ganondorf because Ganondorf becomes Ganon but Ganondorf isn't a Phantom, which means that Phantom Ganon won't become Ganon and will always be Ganondorf. So Ganondorf is Ganon of the Phantom and Phantom Ganon's Ganon is the most Ganon that the Phantom will ever be.

      Obviously.

I really don't get some of you fans out there. There was only one time in the history of English-speaking Zelda games where Ganon was spelled wrong in an official product, and it was in the screen featured below. So how the hell are all these 12-year-old morons who never played the original game continuing to spell Ganon incorrectly? I've heard some pretty damn interesting theories, from the fact there are real people named Gannon to it sounds like "Cannon" (nevermind there is also a word name Canon, and a popular company known as Canon, too). The real reason is that some fans are ignorant little jerks, and their misinformation screws with new fans by teaching them to spell Ganon wrong. This shit ends now! STOP SPELLING IT WRONG, buttholeS.

        Anonymous

Gannon with two "n" just sounds like typical American name.
        Like Shannon. Or Brandon.

So that may be the reason they keep spelling it like that.

        > cannon

There are LOTS of people who say "cannon" when they mean canon, like, established lore.
It all led us to the point when we have an actual game development company named "HeadCannon" which uses an image of a man with cannon in his head for a logo.
