This update was very disappointing, the archon quest was very good but way too short and Dehya banner is the worst one in a very long time.

Dehya's story quest was the best we have got in a long while. Even if her kit is shit and the banner is slow as fuck we shouldn't forget that
Crystalize should give different buffs based on the element it's infused with.

Electro> ER
Hydro > HP
Cryo > Crit rate
If they had thought of it at the start then yes geo could at least be a support element slightly close to anemo but no.

When is cryo getting an interesting unit honestly. It has to have the most boring fucking units.
Problem is lack of off field pyros honestly. Your upfront option is freeze or melt since electro and cryo only exists for physical. This defaults it to freeze in most circumstances as for the longest time your only off field pyro is Xiangling, and only now can you sort of change that with weird Nahida/Kazuha shenanigans and a pre-existing pyro aura on the enemy. The only variety it could really get is somehow having a few more pyro off field options.
Pyro keeps getting mid tier units (Thoma is okay I guess) and carries. They fucking hate this element I swear. We haven't got a worthwhile pyro support since launch...

Key's passive is so ridiculous by itself that I doubt a 4* would catch up, but it would finally give Nilou a decent 4* option which is good since not everybody wants to eat the weapon banner.

Mono geo is very restricted and true mono geo is Itto/Albedo/Gorou/Zhongli. I don't entirely recommend rolling those 5*s either unless you really like the idea of it and like Itto in specific since it's still revolving around him as a DPS. You have to start swapping out team members when you lack certain ones and it's not really a geo team anymore, for example if you don't have Itto+Albedo then your next best is something like Noelle+Fischl.

Easy, a character that turns into a boulder or something that you can roll around with, or slide down hills. Biomutant has a on ability like that, the guy spawns a turtle shell and then you can slide downhill, it's pretty fun

I was planning on going for ayaka (~80 purple wishes stockpiled atm, should be able to get... some 5* if not her before it ends) but am beginning to doubt that decision somewhat?
atm I really want raiden and nahida because they're both cute and I hear both are extremely good, that being said, I've noticed some major weaknesses in my comp as I've been playing...
1. primary damage is overload, amber charged, lisa 2 reac, rinse and repeat, or electro-charged procs in shallow water or rainy weather shred because of high EM+magic guide
2. vs fire enemies, (signora phase 2, slimes, abyss mages, riflemen), it takes forever to kill them by other means. I've been working on leveling up XQ (since he's also needed to support HuTao anyways); I think this should resolve this
3. ice enemies in 1v1 (bosses, elites etc) very easy time just using amber (skyward/wanderer). groups of them; particularly... ice slimes lmao, I have trouble. can't proc fire because they re-proc ice, I think once I have HuTao/XQ operationalized this should not be an issue
So Ayaka's a great ice DPS, should synergize well with XQ if I wet everyone and then freeze them in place for her burst; and QiQi while being ice as well, isn't that good for repeatedly proccing ice because of the delay and range of her E orbiter thing so you can't really spam superconducts or melts or whatever as reliably at the same rate I can spam say overloads. So Ayaka would give me an 'ice dps' which I don't have and that's nice and all, but is this a priority?
Assuming 50:50 I'm looking at... Jean (would be nice to have an anemo to invest in and she's hot), Keqing (hear she's pretty good I guess?), QiQi C1 (...), Diluc (do not want; already have hutao), Mona (do I want her? I already have xq and hear he's meta as fuck), Tignari (pedo jokes aside I hear dendro is great would he be a useful addition?)

Out of the standard characters, they're all useful if you're new. But overall Tighnari is the strongest in terms of damage. Mona and Jean are buffers

Roll Raiden if you want to give her a braindead team to play due to her cheating energy recharge for that team.
Roll Nahida if you want to open up 50 teams due to how both dendro and her give you a lot of options.
The "safest" roll is Nahida, but consider what you want more.

yeah that's kinda why I was planning on going for ayaka in general, the greater concern is more of ^^ if I blow it all on her because I *want* to and the next fucking banner is someone I actually *need*
eh by time I got 'tao and xq i was already done with liyue and had leveled my core team and got kinda used to them and you know the whole early game AL/WL shoots up every other day so I didn't level her in to swap her in yet because resource consolidation into core team; like you can see where kaeya is sitting at level-wise because that's where I swapped qiqi in (my 50:50 on the hutao banner) and I didn't get hutao until even later (although admittedly I had incredible beginners luck on that banner in hindsight, qiqi at 60, hutao at 80 on the last fucking day of the banner)
Even if you get Ayaka now, there's 100% of chance that you will have enough primos to roll for Nahida on 3.6

You can always throw a ten roll or two to see if the stars align and you get Ayakek early. Between exploration you probably have left to do and some events it’s not the worst chance you can get her then Nahida.
Do you really like Ayaka? If not then you should wait for Nahid next patch. She is a stronger character that can be used in a multitude of ways (literally every Dendro team including as a Spread main DPS) and according to your post you really like her.

Crystallize now affixes the elements of the reaction and they cannot be overwritten during its duration.
EM of the geo character now gives bonus damage to the reactions that involve the crystallized element, it cannot be swirled and when hit by a heavy physical or geo attack it causes shattered (now an amplifying reaction).
Also remember the abyss knights and how they get buffed when they hit a shield? Do that but with swirl. Fuck anemo twinks.

When do you decide your artifacts are good enough for a character and move on?
over 60% crit rate and 160% crit damage is what I consider good enough. Characters like Ayaka and Hu Tao need at least 200% crit dmg though.
with their crit dmg signature weapons, yes
Ayaka doesn't need her weapon to easily get over 200% crit damage. In fact, 200% is on the low side even for a 4* Ayaka.
Yaka is easy to get to 200% CD because she gets 40% CR from BS and 15% CR from Cryo Resonance, so you can mostly ignore your CR. Rosaria also gives up to 15% CR if you are playing her.
70% crit rate minimum and 200%+ crit damage depending on ascension stat and weapon substat.

Tighnari, DMC, Kokomi and raiden (EM maxing) is what I'm using. Pretty good, even on floor12 abyss. DMC could be replaced by another hydro or dendro character though. Water boy and Yelan Q's don't work well with Tighnari so you can ignore those.

It's actively hard to use my main DPS characters when Yelan half the time will kill things before they can and if I really wanted to I could just fill the rest with off fielders.
i failed to get yelan on the previous banner want wanted to try Yoimiya, Yelan, Xingqiu, Nahida to see if the overwhelming hydro application made burgeon happen between vapes.
tried using beidou to strip off the burning aura instead to interesting results but my team's artifacts weren't built around it.
That is way more interesting than anything I will do because my Nahida is exclusively for Nilou and electro hag usage.
i like to play around with different team comps, some just flow really nicely even if they do slightly less damage.
this was from when i was testing the beidou thing, beidou isn't even fully leveled and the right characters didn't have em.
but still, the reaction spam was funny to see.
yeah i use her on field for fast exploration but it's not even worth switching to other characters since she can mow everything down by herself

When they announced dendro I expected it to be more like an offensive geo, i.e constructs focused on damage dealing and reactions.
geo + pyro = eruption, aoe + dot
geo + anemo = sandstorm, damage + stagger/interrupt
geo + hydro = sludge, damage, slower movement, longer time between attacks
geo + electro = magnetize, damage and pull
geo + cryo = squall, damage stagger slow
geo + dendro = ivy, damage, inmobilize

You could make up a thousand cool effects and reaction effects but the fact remains Mihoyo refuses to do anything cool with Geo. Crystallize is hot trash in a game where killing shit fast is meta.
they should just add an artifact that makes crystallize do the same thing as that one ley line effect in that one domain where it causes an explosion
It's not even that. Shields are useful, Zhongli is played a lot. However characters are mich more effective at shield generation than Geo reactions are, Zhongli being a prime example.
