As someone who actually liked Starfield and would rate it a 7.5/10 game, it makes perfect sense that it's not nominated for GOTY.
It's such a "by-the-numbers" extremely safe game that didn't take any risks, didn't do anything new, didn't even attempt to be anything, and was somehow an inferior game to Skyrim overall(despite Skyrim being 12 years old).
Hopefully this wakes up Bethesda, and makes them realize that they can't just do this same shit for TES6.
Considering it's expected to come out somewhere in 2025-2026, you think they will finish it from scratch in 2 years? AAA studios take their sweet time with game nowadays. I think it is already half finished or close to half finished
Maybe, but no way Bethesda will spend much more than that without new release. they need to make more money, and Starfield is not kind of a game that can be milked forever.

>and Starfield is not kind of a game that can be milked forever.
well the problem is that they it would, they've said they would be supporting the game for years(I doubt it) so that's why I figured development for TES6 wouldnt be very much far along
>It's such a "by-the-numbers" extremely safe game that didn't take any risks, didn't do anything new, didn't even attempt to be anything
Explain Tears of the Kingdom's nomination then.
Because It did those things well and what new things it did were also executed well its simple as that a game does not have to do anything new to be a very good game. The issue with starfield is it is forgettable bland and its so safe that it was afraid to be interesting in anyway I am not going to pretend Zelda was not safe as fuck but at least it did try to do something interesting while starfield could barely be bothered to make a interesting anything. I do not think totk deserves a award but its clear effort was made to make it a good game while starfield was designed to be a marketable game and a attempt to grab a new audience they lacked before without putting effort into making a quality game.
No Todd makes it a point to never listen to feedback. Did you know Starfield was going to have a voiced protagonist and had voice actors record lines for months before they miraculously decided against it? It never even should’ve been an idea in the game’s pre-production stage due to the backlash from Fallout 4, but Todd doubled down anyway because he doesn’t care what you think. He’s just going to make another game that appeals to no one by trying to appeal to everyone.
I think he's of the school of thought of "the customer doesn't know what they want until they have it", but the issue is, if you want to design products with that mindset, you have to actually be good and not retarded, but Todd is an idiot retard who couldn't make a good game to save his life and literally doesn't understand why the earlier janky bethesda games were liked, abandoning their strengths and leaning ever further into their flaws.
>Todd has always been a bit weird.
Todd is the opposite of weird. He's a 115 IQ (borderline retarded) midwit who majored in Business in college. Starfield is the epitome of him as a game designer.
This explains why every game he releases gets even worse. Dude doesn't listen at all whatsoever and decides on retarded things like 1000 planets because why not.
>and was somehow an inferior game to Skyrim overall(despite Skyrim being 12 years old).
I actually hard disagree here.
I think vanilla Starfield is much much better than vanilla Skyrim or Fallout 4.
But the game is just fucking outdated and weird. You can tell so many mechanics got cut from it. >Cooking skill >No point in cooking >Outposts >No point in outposts >Planetary environmental hazards >Do nothing >Helium-3 as fuel >Non-factor, even though loading screen tips and characters make keeping your He3 reserves up a big deal
I don't know what happened with this game. I think its a combination of investors needing the game to have as much mass appeal as possible, playtesters being retarded, and a general culture of "modders will fix it lol" at bethesda
And this isn't even getting into the shitty writing, which is only made worse by the overwhelming compulsion from Bethesda to never lock the player out of any content as a result of their decisions >another immortal npc por favor
>Helium-3 as fuel >Non-factor, even though loading screen tips and characters make keeping your He3 reserves up a big deal
It was an actual mechanic that got cut, because they realized that it was just annoying and tedious. Spaceships used to actually consume fuel and you would need to constantly refuel your ship every time you traveled. It didn't auto-refuel like it does now.
>In an interview on the Lex Fridman podcast, Todd Howard explained that fuel consumption was a feature that was cut from the game at some point in its development due to being a "fun killer." >In earlier iterations of the game, using the gravity drive resulted in the player’s spacecraft running out of power, at which point the game would abruptly end and make using such a feature feel more like a punishment.
Yes and the game suffers for it.
You can just jump around from boring system to boring system without any planning prior. It makes the galaxy feel small as fuck
Not to mention the kino storytelling opportunities that you lose out on. Imagine being stranded in deep space, blasting a SOS signal into the cosmos, not knowing who or what is going to show up.
They don’t even learn from the most popular mods. Just do a version of what happens in Skyrim’s survival mods when you “die” of exposure if you run out of fuel.
You are imagining it from the best way possible. In reality, it would have turned out to be the worst way possible. It would be some shit like "looks like you ran out of fuel, want to reload an earlier save from 30 minutes ago?".
Oh I love starsector. Great game.
But ultimately Starfield had the potential to be great too. Great exploration built around a solid rpg-core would have made for one of the most immersive experiences imaginable. Sad it didn't pan out, but not terribly surprised.
Fallout 4 is legitimately the worst game I've ever played. Voiced protag and dialogue wheel makes it unplayable for me.
Maybe if it weren't a Fallout title I would have a higher opinion of it. But its the only Bethesda game I played exactly once and then immediately uninstalled
Fallout 4 is the lore fun game starfield has slightly better writing but both are dogshit. This is not the Bethesda that made morrowind anymore and they are never coming back
>Starfield has slightly better writing
Starfield has more writing, by volume, not better. >both are dogshit
Fallout 4 can be fun if enough out of context restrictions and additions are involved. Starfield is fundamentally unfun.
I had a lot more fun with fallout 4 just fucking around bunch doing settlements and larping as a dictator exterminating undesirables and building my Boston reich. Other then that the game is horrible I have hundreds of hours in it regardless but they story is so dogshit that I honestly think starfields shitty fetch quest story is better written. At least the entangled mission was kinda cool and the concept is ok I like that it is a Faustian bargain at the end but the gameplay itself is the worst they have ever put out the only things I liked about starfield were quests even tho they are shitty too
>It's such a "by-the-numbers" extremely safe game that didn't take any risks, didn't do anything new, didn't even attempt to be anything
Anon, it's Geoff Awards what we are talking about.
>extremely safe
dude, it's a 3/10, loading screen sim, high TTK, piece of shit jankshooter with low enemy variety
it's the worst game to ever come out of bethesda, ever
Call down Todd. You'll get the "still kicking" award for games still being played years after release. You are still on track...for GAME OF THE GENERATION.
suck it Todd your game's shit
It's over Todd. Time to retire, like you said.
You're doing this to him, anons. Everytime you don't vote for Todd, he gets older.

i imagine TES6 is too far in development now to change direction.
I figure it isnt even in pre-production yet honestly. they released starfield just now

I think you pulled that number out of your ass anon

During the Microsoft FCT trial thing, Phil Spencer himself said that TES6 is still "five plus years away".
It's gonna be a 2028 release at the earliest.
Yeah, probably as a launch title for the next Shitbox.
It's not coming out until at least 2028.
>It's such a "by-the-numbers" extremely safe game that didn't take any risks, didn't do anything new, didn't even attempt to be anything

It was made by Nintendo
Nintendo bonus, but some of the new powers are genuinely fun and impressive despite the soulless reuse of the map
Because It did those things well and what new things it did were also executed well its simple as that a game does not have to do anything new to be a very good game. That trash is a 4/10 on an extremely good day.

Kinda reminds me of Kojima. These devs make a few good games and then get an overinflated ego and become completely out of touch.
thats just getting old really, not many people stay on top of their game for decades on end

Missed opportunity

Yes because nobody has vision anymore
Play good games, like starsector.
Oh I love starsector. Great game.

Fallout 4 is like Citizen Kane in comparison to Starfield
Fallout 4 is legitimately the worst game I've ever played. Voiced protag and dialogue wheel makes it unplayable for me.

Fallout 76.
Its funny this shitty toddposting mostly stopped after Flopfield came out
Call down Todd. You'll get the "still kicking" award for games still being played years after release. You are still on track...for GAME OF THE GENERATION.
Manlets never learn.
Look at the bright side, you'll always have Morrowind
>Todd hasn't made a good game since Morrowind
Todd, Emil needs to go, please Todd.
Todd is a retard
Tim Cain tried to buy Fallout when the IP was for sale, Todd got it instead
