This one and the one before that. Art and music were fantastic and I'd suck a wiener for this kind of soundtrack to be featured in an actual From game instead of the violent cacophony they usually have.

that's not how it works though, it's piss easy to make a new rig follow the exact positions/rotations of another rig in motion. even with different bone setups. there's no creative input with this type of thing, it's clear copyright infringement

    also
    >tracing stuff "becomes your own"
this isn't right to begin with, it's a derivative work at best
copyright is very simple, use creativity when making something, get copyright on work. where is the creativity in tracing something? the pressure you put on the pen when going over someone else's lines? deciding if you trace on the inside or outside? remember, in court you'd have to convince a judge that those things are creative input, and it isn't an innocent until proven guilty thing, you're the one that needs to show stuff.

3D animations are not done frame by frame, this idea of rotoscope doesn't make any sense. I think I know what this homosexual is talking about, he must have seen his artists importing third party assets, models and their animations, and slightly modifying things saying it's OK.
I don't even know what game they're talking about, but from his answer I'm 100% sure they stole animations and just adjusted it to their models with the idea that if they changed it slightly it wouldn't be the same thing as stealing, but without having changed enough for it to actually look different, like that porn game Subverse, for example, which stole some assets from Honey Selectand and modified the topography, but not enough for the shape to be really different, when you put the hands of the Subverse characters together with those of Honey Select, you see that it's the same model.

              >3D animations are not done frame by frame
              Guilty Gear animations were.
Every keyframe was tweaked and bones scaled.
Basednds dumb and counter intuitive, but its how they got all the scaling of bones and bending of straight things (swords etc) to look good with their shader.
additionally, if you wanted to copy a clip of something while anumating your rig, you'd almost definitely have keyframes every frame. the calculation by the software (is it called tweening?) would likely mess it up.

                >Guilty Gear animations were.
Not all of them. Very basic light attacks with no visual gimmicks were obviously not touched after the initial 3D animation. Even then GG animations weren't really done frame by frame, they first animated the standard 3D movements, then modified certain frames after the fact.

                Fair enough.

How does that have anything to do with the care or investment into the game's quality from the part of the creator?
What other options does an average person trying to get into producing games have?
You go work at a soulless piece of shit company after 4 years of education to create actual garbage, you use ai generated art, or you learn to create your own art over several years and hope you have the talent to create something good even with years of effort, or you somehow just have the money on hand to hire an artist or artists to make your first game.
Enlighten me, are there other options?

You can't, to say otherwise is a disservice and an underestimation of drawing as a medium.
I'm sure you can learn how to draw passable, or ok art with a few years dedication and knowledge and the same level of function as everyone else but actually making something appealing, with it's own art style, of competitive quality with actual artists in the field is not something you just set out and do in a handful of years.
Even with 5 years of prep, actual dedication, and some level of ability that's sort of a gamble, there's a good chance you could do that as long as you want and never hit the result you're talking about.
I don't think you draw or produce anything of worth at all, because you just don't know what goes into it.

It's included in the game's copyright, you don't copyright a clip of a movie, you copyright the movie.
That's as nonsensical as saying you can't copyright a sequence of notes. Then go listen to the bass line of "I Want A New Drug" and "Ghostbusters", Huey Lewis and the News got millions from that. Or the one random sample De La Soul forgot to get approval for, the only one, and made almost negative money from their first album.
You morons don't know shit about copyright.

You can copyright notes and music, you can't copyright rig keyframes. Imagine my game had a calculator in it and I claimed copyright on the calculator and all its functions and became the owners of the mathematical abilities of a calculator. Or if the calculator depicted a certain equation like 24+85=109 and I claimed copyright on all instances of that equation ever.

yes you can. It's intellectual property. It doeesn't matter if you bought it from someone else. They can rotoscope all they want, it will matter not to lawyers.

Care to explain in detail why is it incorrect for him to use that term? I'm not even trying to argue here, but isn't rotoscoping just re-drawing something frame by frame from another source? So why wouldn't this apply to drawing a rig frame by frame from another source? It's the same principle.

        Anonymous

        >So why wouldn't this apply to drawing a rig frame by frame from another source? It's the same principle.
Rotoscoping is filming footage of a real actor or IRL object, then drawing on top of it frame by frame. You don't need to do that with 3D animation at all, video games you don't even pre-render the animations, the game renders the animations in real-time on the screen when you're playing. "Rotoscoping" a 3D animation is not a thing, and will never be a thing because motion capture already does that entire work automatically and with less effort.

          Anonymous

This isn't entirely correct. A lot of 3D animators will still take video of themselves as reference for motions while still not using motion capture tech, though that isn't rotoscoping either.

            Anonymous

Every animator uses reference reels. But thats not rotoscoping. They're not drawing on top of the reel. Disney has used rotoscoping in the past to make it easier to animate rigid complex objects, example Bambi's deer horns and Cruella De Vil's car were miniatures that were rotoscoped.

see this is another fascinating parallel with trannies. both the aitard and the troony operate on a fundamentally delusional level. they need validation from other people, and the moment the other person denies them the validation their brain activates the defensive mechanism of calling the other person a meanie poopoo head. i'm both cases the other person is painted as a ignorant and angry individual, part of a radiply disappearing minority. the thought process is almost 1:1. i already told you I'm not an artgay and my drawing level is "5yo who just picked up a pencil for the first time" yet your brain just couldn't help itself. fascinating stuff

I wonder though, would it not be considered rotoscopung if you were animating your rig to match a clip of that movement?
I think rotoscoping in 3d animation is possible. Maybe it needs its own term, but the intent is fundamentally the same.

        Anonymous

People do the same with rpgmaker too, or anything that uses a pool of ready made assets.
                Why is that?
It doesn't really preclude anything from being good or looking good or having good music if it uses assets that weren't ready made for it, it can certainly be to it's detriment but it isn't universally so.

It got tarnished by low effort "games". On its own RPG maker projects using some stock assets can be good, certainly. But they actually require creative input.

Hell Astlibra i've already mentioned in this thread used free music. And it's fricking amazing.

asset flips originally meant another thing. it's like when a project failed and the devs made another halfassed game using the assets from the first failed project to get a quick buck

The term changed because Steam got flooded with preset asset UE garbage that was quickly slapped together. Its similar to games with level editors, except people now try to scam others for money by selling their sloppy sandbox games.

I don't go through mental gymnastics because i don't consider asset flips a problem to begin with. You're given a myriad of tools to filter shit out, an entire segment of internet dedicated to exploring the indie segment and finding out good games, yet you're so fricking lazy and brainless you can't even use them. Well, swim in the rivers of shit while i'm playing good games. And i'm only going to get more good games when indie devs embrace AI tools.

But since AI will allow more people to get into industry, we will see a large torrent of good games too. Leave your "mosts" and "99%" in the garbage bin because those childish farts of logic don't work on actual human beings.

Sure, but it certainly wouldn't be revolutionary or worth sperging out about. And that game won't be good enough to justify not just filtering out AI generated games from your searches, since that one filter would get rid of the most bad games possible (unless the site you're using also has some filters for asset flips) besides maybe the soulslike tag.
