Ardounge is my favorite city. Also I need to do Desert Treasure but it seems like such a pain in the ass
Just do it it's easy and it doesn't even have puzzles so you can't get filtered
the worst part is the fucking pyramid at the end
>takes me like 2 hours because "haha lol you get kicked out of pyramid due to rng get fucked :^*~~"
I just need 2 more combat levels to be able to do Dream Mentor

Its really easy, I was kinda intimidated by it too. takes abit time to do but definetly isnt hard.
DT was only scary back in the day when nobody knew what the fuck was happening. I remember being stuck at the ice part for like 2 days.
Ardougne used to be a place I was super interested in when I was a F2P kiddie, but it lost a fair bit of luster once I was actually playing around it as a member.
Yeah Ardougne seems cool but it was never really a useful place to hang out in outside of questing or low level thieving, not much else to do there.
underground pass is and will be thew best quest in any game
100%, it feels like an actual adventure that you need to plan and pack for. It's also hard as fuck and you know everyone who made it the elf magic forest had to go through that shit. I think because of it I have a preference for games that but up difficult barriers to make it to other areas.
I really like that runescape makes the most out of its world. You're constantly crossing back through old areas.
>One small favor
Posting some newer ones to keep things fresh
Honestly I don't turn the soundtrack on as much as I should
same, thats because they dont have level zones like all the fucking other mmos so they can put low level content, mid tier and high level all over the map and even layer them so people of different levels will always meet.
Level zones basically promotes dead content.
>level cap upped to 60 from 50
>gotta be lvl 50 and unlocked story content to explore the new zones
>also gotta buy expansion
>also zone is filled with lvl 50 to 60 enemies
>literally just gating the mmo world
Imagine if osrs did that and to visit catherby all the monsters and enemies around it was lvl 70, you would have no noobs or skill pures levelling there. Its fucking silly that this is the mmo design today. Id get it if its meant to be wilderness or some shit, but it jarring to play a mmo like ff14 and you got zones where the humans btw are equal strength to other humans around the world, but the monsters there because you're in a expansion are higher level. Its fucking silly.
It has to do with the level systems of it and the fact that Runescape is a very free form mmo. There's no main story.
Wish there were another MMO like it.
>No main story
Tell that to RS3
Runescape 3 feels like a Korean MMO from the art style to the monetization. Reminds me of Everquest 2 in how badly it dumped what made the game good.
I played RS3, and theres still not really a main story, or at least no real story for the player. No main quest line.
The players story is purely what they do. Nothing more. Each region has a story to it, and there are quests lines, but that's it.
>No main quest line.
You clearly didn't play enough because eventually it all comes together and becomes a linear story starting with While guthix sleeps
For me, it's Wander.
reminder that the guy who composed all of the original runescape songs got arrested for raping kids or something
just like jeremy soule...what is it with composers?
Jeremy Soule wasn't convicted of anything, he just became a victim of cancel culture and #MeToo
>Didn't have PC as a kid
>My family just moved to new town
>Make friends at school
>We both like vidya
>Go to his place one day
>"Have you played Runescape?"
>Play on their family's random laptop that has one of those small red button "mouse" in middle of the keyboard
>Learn to use PC ig for first time
>We adventure all around F2P area
>Get lost at west of Port Sarim for a while
>Get stuck with friend in Wilderness at Rogue Den for few days until we are brave enough to run past the enemies
Runescape + Childhood was way too good of a combination. There wasn't info readily available, people talked IRL about RS and shared tips. Being able to Yew was super cool, Having Rune Plate was even cooler. Demon Slayer was scary, Dragon Slayer was epic.
That kind of experience is impossible to have these days, just like golden age of arcade was for me.
Basically the biggest problem with MMOs these days, there's no mystery to them anymore. tryhards rush the game and then put all the info is online. If you don't use the info you're at a severe disadvantage.
Hope in the future there is an AI created dynamic MMO that is different on every server and essentially infinite. So you can't just datamine or rush all the content and put it on the wiki. Events and content are unique and then get replaced in a way that makes sense.
brings me back to 5th grade
This is the first track that truly stood out to me.
I was just running through Draynor and I think it came on at random and that opening just got me completely entranced.
Then when that bridge hits it's just perfect.
To this day, Doorways is special to me.
This track plays at the Sawmill
Must've gotten in on random rotation then.
Before the GE was added, Doorways played northwest of Varrock
Jagex changed where it played after they added the GE in
Cabin Fever is awesome and they completely waste it on a a one-off quest, in an instanced area no less. This shit should have been used for a minigame or something.
i was surprised at how much i liked the final boss music for raids 3, especially 6:26 onwards to the end
>Background starts playing
I instantly feel at peace.
Entrana is a lovely place
Man I miss this game, will there ever be anything like 2004 RS again?
5x, 10x or even double exp servers when?
I love the quests and world of runescape but I'm not grinding for three weeks clicking a single place on my screen, for one skill.
Rs3 has that fresh start bullshit where you get bonus xp. No such luck for osrs
I'd be less salty about the grind if they didn't force my account I made in fucking 2004 to be on RS3 only. That was a time I could devote ungodly hours to runescape, and even had some 99's.
Wtf are you talking about anon. Your account is on the same game
It's on Runescape 3, not OSRS
No. Literally 90% of people left when they launched EoC, and only a fraction came back for OSRS because of the whole 'lel just play another 10k hours if you want you stuff back' stance. I'd gladly nuke my useless RS3 account if it appeared in OSRS
>No such luck for osrs
Yet. They really wanted to but as per the norm with OSRS there is a very vocal group of spergs that revolted and made them backtrack a little. But also keep in mind the way they want to do it is also 0/10 foresight. Isn't it still a thing for OSRS where the fresh-start worlds will carry over all their items and shit when they are turned into full characters? With increased droprate modifiers on the server too, just not XP boosts? At least RS3s fresh-start is a boost for new players and people who don't want to grind as much. OSRS is literally just foot-in-the-door against the spergery of people who no-life OSRS.
Literally fuck off to RS3, keep that actual cancer out of OSRS.
RS3 is your home. It's made for people like you. Embrace it.
Is that why every single update past the innitial launch of OSRS is just RS3-style content, fag? Enjoy playing RS3-lite while complaining about RS3 like a hypocrite.
>h-haha! Enjoy your EZ XP rates and skilling minigames, fag!
>oh yes please jagex, I'd love another skilling boss to bring me from 60 to 99
>Noo I dont want to put in effort
>Give me rewards now!!!
>I dont want to spend time!!
>I deserve the rewards!!
>has to meticulously use tick exploits and bludgeon npc's with mallets for 240 hours to reach halfway to max
>Cant click his mouse once every 20 minutes
How retarded are you?
>click on tree
>ten ticks later get one logs
thanks now i gotta wait around for another to respawn. really easy going
tfw auto clicked and botted to max
Mod Reach did nothing wrong
I find it hilarious they needed osrs to be separate from rs3 so badly they shit out kourend too early and too largely only to turn around and “fix” the continent just to abandon it so they could finally finish out the already existing map sort of
>haven't played RuneScape in over 10 years
>know about old-school RuneScape but never touched it
>look up the map
>see this shit
What in the god damn
I thought the point of old school RuneScape was the preserve the game in the 2007 state, even if they were going to expand it this shit just looks uninspiring.
Yes having no GWD and up for 5 years+ would be very "inspiring". What a moronic take, even for Ganker
You can't have a game be the exact same and actually survive for 5+ years
They literally recycled biomes from the main continent into a smaller one, it's uninspiring in that aspect. If they were going to do a fresh continent at least make it unique. That's what I liked about the original continent that all parts of it are completely unique.
RuneScape Classic did it
A game having 5 players was not 'surviving'
I swear I see this retarded take everytime OSRS is brought up.
How is it retarded. OSRS was, after all, originally sold as a 100% faithful recreation of RS2. It was only later that original content was introduced
It was never sold as 100% faithful. Just that it was using a 2007 back up which immediately had new stuff added which wasn't in the back up.
Things needed to get added, but they went too far with Kourend/Zeah. It's so shit
Retarded take, go eat glass gay
Pretty sure it was never OSRS since they had GE at launch.
>had GE at launch.
pretty sure they added it in year two of OSRS
Old school RuneScape launched February 22, 2013 and GE was added 26 February 2015. So it went more than 2 years without GE.
It was never OSRS because it was based off of a 2007 build ie after RS2 was dead and buried
In theory zeah could have been cool, but its been a massive fuck up that they are still "reworking" years later. I like fossil island at least.
>this shit just looks uninspiring.
Care to actually explain why? Other than "I don't have childhood memories associated with this" of course.
The scale of all the structures on Zeah are way off, it's like they planned more but realised it was to much work so they just made every bulding twice as big as it needed to be to fill out the landmass.
>thought the point of old school RuneScape was the preserve the game in the 2007 state
The point of OSRS was always to just be RS3 without EoC
If this was the point they're failing miserably. Where is Sealing Creation? Where are any of the RS2 questline finishers? Where's Summoning?
They've added old minigames like Soul Wars back to OSRS, unfortunately there's the problem that if the rewards aren't worth it people just won't play it, which is basically what happened to Soul Wars. They've talked about adding it, but would it actually stay popular is the question. They've also been fleshing out previous questlines like the Morytania questline and Desert ones, just in a way that better fits OSRS. There's also been talk about adding in some 08/09 quests from RS3, such as While Guthix Sleeps, they already did it for Land of the Goblins.
As for a new skill, I wouldn't expect an RS3 skill to ever be added, *maybe* we'll eventually get a new skill, but it's been notoriously difficult for new skills to pass polls.
>Where is Sealing Creation? Where are any of the RS2 questline finishers? Where's Summoning?
all polled to be added into the game and because 3/4 people in botscape didn't vote yes they didn't add them. people said summoning would break the game because it would extend trips with extra inventory spots
I don't think stealing creation was ever polled or even designed for OSRS
my bad i must have confused it for something else, but that being said they did say in a talk that if they ever added soulwars they could add stealing creation, but improved so who knows
There was definitely talk about it, but I think the fact that Soul Wars died after a few months made them reconsider adding something like that.
I thought they had the basic framework for it programmed and were talking about it in one of the blogposts. Also
the only reason it died is because it was metagamed to fucking hell. People don't want to play Soul Wars, they want to get the Soul Wars pet (and optionally some other loot too.)
God I hate pets
Pets are the absolute worst addition to OSRS and no one can tell me otherwise.
I know you don't have to do it and there's no actual benefit to pets, but seeing people with thousands of kills on one boss makes me a little queasy.
It's one the few untradables with any kind of prestige in this botted shitfest of a game, so of course normalfags have to grind them all out because they just don't have the time to start over and make a helmie.
Pets give people a reason to do bosses like KQ, King Black Dragon, and others. They're one of the few things you can't outright buy (sort of).
One of the plugins can hide them, now if only it could hide ironmemes too
You may be right, I think they played around with it to see if it would be easy to export to OSRS. We may get a blog and poll for it in time.
An official server locked to 2007 would not last very long, as evidenced by how the sub numbers started really dropping once the freshness of the release wore off. You have to remember, people liked 2007 runescape not just because of the nature of the game, they also liked it because it was constantly being updated. The 2007 version of runescape also really didn't have that much in the way of pvm content, you really only had a handful of high level bosses with very basic mechanics.
It could’ve lasted if Jagex wanted it too. They kept Classic servers open for years and years before their Chinese masters told them to shutter it. There would have been people perfectly happy to play RS2 just as it was, it’s just that Jagex realized that they could wring more money out of OSRS is they updated and casualized it
Yeah it could have lasted, but it would be incredibly small population after 2-3 years, when the nostalgia of 2007scape wears off you realize there's really not a massive amount to do especially late game.
Lasted is a strong fucking word there, it was already down to like 15k players at its low points and that was without time to pull it away. The more the community pulls away, the less the nostalgia for a long gone community holds people in. Having like 200 people on some servers isn't really a win.
To each his own. I would have been perfectly happy with a small population and an unchanged RS2
I have no doubt some people do, but the reality of it is Jagex is a business and there's just not much incentive to support a game that might only have a few thousand players. I will give you some potential good news though, they were talking recently about alternate servers and game modes like leagues and if I recall one idea was something along the lines of classic OSRS. Probably unlikely for it to happen, but who knows.
That would be nice, though if that happened I would almost want them to drop the OSRS name and just call it RS2 Classic or something. The "Oldschool" label is pretty much a misnomer by this point
What even determines whether an update is truly RS2 or not? I've always felt like the majority of the updates still retain what made RS2 iconic while adding more depth and enjoyable content to the game.
No new update is RS2, except content that was actually added to the game pre-HD. RS2 was what it was because of the Jagex that existed at the time. That Jagex is gone. While I have some respect for the OSRS team, they are not and never will be the same. Their and the playerbase's ideas of what makes a good game is very alien to how it was fifteen years ago.
I don't have any problem with people who like new content if that's what they like, but it's not "keeping the old Runescape spirit" and it never will be
There's a ridiculous amount of content, but I guess the people who play as a full time job burn through it that quickly.
They should have expanded south for more desert content instead of that shitty island.
Thoughts on Monkey Madness?
It's bullshit and kind of terrifying when you first do it, but it goes to show how fucking routine quests are for other RPGs much less other MMOs when cookie clicker quests are as memorable as they are.
Monkey child cries everytime
In no other quest can you be gangraped by gorillas and monkey ninjas/zombies while shitting yourself over tiny ass spiders.
>Get 12'd by a scorpion in the long grass
Probably the worst case of a classic runescape challenge getting ruined by power creep and quality of life. All the tension in that quest revolved around how remote it was, how well equipped you had to be to survive there, and how easily you could actually lose progress if you fucked up and lost your transformations or amulet. Made the stakes really high and made you dread dying. Now who gives a shit the death timer on your items is like 5 hours long now you aren't losing anything and if you get scared just puss out and take any of the million of free teleports out of there.
One of my most memorable quests. Love my dragon scimmy
They should ban under 1750 totals from voting. Worthless peasants.
I still play RS3 to this day. It's solid if you ignore the MTX or just play an Ironmeme. I wish our raids were more varied and unique systems like OSRS though.
>I wish our raids were more varied
Doesn't OSRS still only have like three raids? They keep asking for new stuff and something along the lines of dungeneering to keep things fresh.
They literally keep on adding stuff from RS3 into OSRS even if it doesn't make sense lore wise like them adding in the fucking corp beast even though summoning and the quest its involved with isn't in OSRS.
>keep adding in random shit
>still doesnt add good think like fist of guthix or any good skills because they need basically 75% of people's approval
i fucking hate it
Yes but CoX, ToB and ToA are all varied. RS3 has Liberartion of Mazcab which isn't nor ever will be finished. Elite Dungeons are all the same and just "go fast." I like the difficulty scaling and reward systems in OS raids.
>get shadow staff drop from new raids about 3 weeks ago
>quintuples my bank value
>buy all the gear I ever wanted
>have no motivation to do PvM or play at all
its a weird feeling
Money losing all of its value is the worst feeling.
max gear is way more than max cash
source: have max cash
What was his problem?
Lunar diplomacy is probably my favorite quest
Fuck it I'm resubbing to my ironman. Imma finna get quest cape next, I got my fire cape and 1800 total
ah yes... click and wait an hour to move... such nostalgia... such an exceptional game
you're retarded, if you have low ping there is still an hour delay you're just ignoring it
Might wanna check your packet loss
>Go to friend's house
>"hey you gotta try this new game called "Run Escape"
>sounds like a dumb name but ok
>play it and love it
>get home and my computer can't play it
pretty sure I just needed a different browser or update my browser, but I didn't know about those things at that age
Kek exact same experience... Mine was definitely a shit computer/internet. It took like 40 mins to load the login screen.
So what's at the black borders? Does the world literally cut off in to black or is it a fence?
>Does the world literally cut off in to black
basically. some just have no floor and just empty space.
I want to come back to OSRS but I'm sick of PVM so I'm thinking of making a skiller and completely ignoring the entire combat aspect of this game as much as possible
However I'm kind of dreading those combat situations where it is indeed possible to complete a quest without gaining experience by using rings of recoils to kill monsters to death. I forgot how many quests involving combat skillers can actually do that way.
doggo pets soon
How long until Gankerscape gets it
This game was such a big part of my life, and I come back to it every now and then and then play it for hours. I remember coming back from school, starting my dad's pc and play runescape, I'd say I was sorta addicted, it was almost like a second life to me, and some classmates of mine played it too. I was in a clan too and have fond memories of it, until the clan leader had to quit playing because his parents said he was too addicted, then the clan just fell apart and I didn't really have fun playing anymore. Sometimes I would come back and play for a bit, but as time went by the game became shittier with all sorts of new bullshit being added, like the spinning wheel, eoc and whatever.
Too bad my original account got banned for god knows whatever reason, but I've always had a second account to so I play on that now, mainly osrs because rs3 is just fucking weird, a watered down game that tries too much to be other mmos.
I gave up and sold my gold a while back. Wasn't too far off maxing. I'd probably play a rebooted 2004/2005 era server if that ever came around.
What's the best way to do Barbarian Assault?
I don't have any friends who play OSRS.
Is there anything better than seeing a new music notification in chat? The best way to start an adventure.
For me, it’s Morrowind
Too many bangers
if i started playing OSRS today, will i have the same experience as if i did in like 2015?
Because in 2015 OSRS was still not too different from vanilla RS2, at least a lot of the new content you could ignore. But the amount of new stuff increased, and there were a lot more "quality of life improvements" that are unavoidable
ah i see. what are some examples of the QoL stuff? i don't have a problem with new content but i would like the overall feel of the game to be the same if you know what i mean
not him - the overall feel of the game is the same but the community that made it what it was is gone. replaced with efficiency wiki players of all modern mmos. its no longer a medieval themed chat room
>items lost on death will now stick around for a full hour, so retrieving them is a non-issue
>interfaces now have huge buttons for mobile users
>the fact that you can play on mobile in general
>free teleports to minigames
>link that goes directly to the wiki on the interface by default
>mini quests now marked in the log
>every single treasure trails location has a place where you can store items
there's too many to name
>implying hidey-holes weren't a great idea
Boy I sure love saving 100 bank slots just for emote clue equipment
Oh be quiet. You have 800 fucking bank slots. If you want to run clues all day, that's your problem. I'm sick of tripping over "inconHispanicuous boxes" every dozen steps
Just remove those clues
They nerfed Black D'hide after 16 years. I was almost ready to craft my own set on my ironman then dropped the game. I haven't been back since. And that ironman was to cope with how shit everything else had gotten, then they came for me too. I wish they'd release a RS2007 vanillascape but Gankereddit gets it in a tizzy at the thought of it.
what's everyone's opinions of the scrapped skills? seems like people don't want them
Artisan seemed okay. Sailing as a concept is neat but what they had planned for it was terrible
I wish I could get back into it. I love the world and music but just don't have the time or inclination to grind
heh heh gaylinor
Could you imagine any other MMO having such a high skill ceiling. Shit's retarded.
99 was not originally meant to be an actual goal, it was just an arbitrary number that Paul and Andrew picked out of thin air. That’s why (besides smithing) there was very little content tied to very high levels in RS2. The highest quest requirements were in the low 70s
