it has better gameplay and more rpg mechanics than skyrim. if you dont get hung up on comparing it to previous fallout games its not that bad. I actually enjoyed it a lot more than skyrim but hope they never do voiced protag again
This, had they had stuck with fallout 3’s dialog system the game would’ve been received a lot better
>hope they never do voiced protag again
Todd's admitted that it was an experiment that didn't pan out and the protag isn't voiced in Starfield so I'm pretty sure they've learned their lesson. Also got rid of the four dialogue options only system as well thank God
The fact that they're bringing back traits and classes to starfield gives me hope
This and Will Shen's interviews have also given me a lot of hope that the game's RPG mechanics won't be half bad
wild how little credit people give BGS for being open about feedback and fixing mistakes. the breakneck speed opening in FO4 is without a doubt a response to criticisms of FO3's taking too long. FO4 finally undid the recursive crafting as well.
>but hope they never do voiced protag again

Fricking Alpha Protocol only gives you 4 ways to respond(including sarcastic) and it is praised as an RPG with many branches available. Fricking Witcher 1, Gothic, etc has a voiced protagonist with sometimes even more limited options and it is one of the most praised RPGs around.
Fallout 4's biggest problem is that they didn't even write a fricking binary branch. Which is expected since the frickers responsible for writing the script were also responsible for Skyrim where the branches were also as nonexistent. Often times they didn't even fricking write a response, just a "they did (not) like that" as if it is a fricking telltale game.
Those problems have fricking nothing to do with a voiced protagonist, or even voice acting budget since they are one of the biggest fricking companies around, and because they actually did write and voice 4 different ways for npcs to say "okay" to your "yes" in some dialogue options. The quest designer was that fricking lazy and incompetent and you people were fricking stupid enough to fall for the voiced protagonist being voiced.
Even fricking modern Bioware, let alone a Chris ABalogna, could make a RPG with only 4~6 options available to the player, not anybody behind the wheel in Bethesda.
Starfield is just going to give you spam you with 11 different ways to say "yes" with actual choices being nonexistent. Especially since the same morons behind Fallout 4 are behind the wheel.
TL;DR
You are a fricking moron if you bring up the voiced protagonist in Fallout 4.
>these games did the same thing better
>blah blah blah
it was shit when fallout did it, gay.
>it was shit when fallout did it
Because Emil and the other dipshits in Bethesda can't even write a binary outcome let alone a quadrary one.
>will always limit the writer
Only real example of the voiced protagonist even being a problem is Dragon Age where they only wrote the character as a human in mind in 2, and didn't even bother to rectify in Inquisition so you can play as the most br'ish sounding dwarf or whatever.
When the developer is something of AAA scale as Bethesda which is owned by fricking Microsoft, and disc size+compression is a problem modern game developers don't even give a frick about, only limit there is is the writer's competency and Bethesda writers are worse than the mentally ill dipshits at Bioware by the virtue of not even writing.
Even crying about limits is fricking stupid to begin with. Give a man no limitations and you get fricking Chris Avellone who repeatedly writes too fricking much to fit in a game.
What you said is true but there's no denying that voiced protagonists will always limit the writer regardless of competent he was.
because its fun
Ganker was wrong yet again
I like roaming the Wasteland with my recovered addict wife, that I have made very pretty, and my collection of guns, that appeal to my childlike need to see things go click-clack and boom.
It’s a loot shooter with good exploration & building mechanics.
By itself, it’s a pretty simple and fun game.
The world is a blank slate so you can impose your own creative vision on it via mods, giving it a Minecraft-like appeal
NV has stronger worldbuilding so it leans more into the category of the Witcher or Mass Effect or insert CRPG here, which is always more niche than the former
Fnv is nowhere close to crpg, you are delusional. Only because it's a step above f3 in terms of Factions and quests doesn't mean shit. If anything it's ten steps behind in world design.
>How the frick does Todd do it?
Man just knows how to make good games, not perfect ones but pretty good ones even with their faults
I had the most fun playing Fallout 4. I had the least fun reading Fallout 4.

ERROR, 404, LIFE-EXPERIENCE NOT FOUND
How the frick did you make it through the E3 debut trailer? I dipped out and never looked back.
i'm ready for todd howard KINO
Let me guess.... you are a new vegas fan right? lol get fricked
I am, unironically. Todd Howard, I kneel.
Nobody makes the same games unless you count KCD and that one drowned itself in "immersion" (tedium)
Todd really competes with himself. people shit on Fo4 and compare it to New Vegas or 3 because they are on the same league
Will avowed destroy Todd's evil monopoly?
Maybe. more good games never hurt anyone really but the question is: who's in charge of Avowed?
Sawyer have it in him but Tim Cain made The Outer Worlds
Well didn't Tim also made/directed either Arcanum or VTMB? (can't remember well and too lazy to google rn)
I beat it the week it came out and never touched it again.
Tim Cain made Fallout. Perhaps you've heard of it. I don't have any faith in those interplay/black isle/troika guys anymore. They're all washed up.
I beat FO4 once when it came out. I just boot up new Vegas if I want a soulful rpg experience. It is timeless but I wish we had new story with similar feel and freedom. Sometimes I get depressed thinking I won't experience the same fun times and happiness I used to playing new vegas the first 5 times. One day. I wish I could make these worlds real, even if something good is made I don't want to forget the Mojave.
>I wish I could make these worlds real
What do you mean
>thinking about new vegas makes me wish for a nuclear winter
I did one long playthrough but since I give up early every time because I hate how easy it is to get too far in a factions story and lose access to companions
All of it just works
All Bethesda games are still good Open World games even if they have shit RPG mechanics compared to the older games. There aren't any other Open World games like them.
Its looked like boring repetitive shit from the first trailer and earliest gameplay footage, so I didn't buy it or play it. My instincts were correct yet again.
>and they gutted the last game's RPG mechanics
They gutted stat checks, but the actual character build portion is unchanged beyond how it's visually presented. Stats were removed, and perks, which were often what pushed you into specific builds anyway, are more powerful to compensate.
>"duurr there are no builds because you can level indefinitely"
We gonna argue you had a build going past 15+ perks in New Vegas? At that point you're just generically strong. Especially if you took Shotgun Surgeon along with And Stay Back. Two weapon perks that make every shotgun absurdly overpowered, and you now have free reign to take every health and niche buff perk without gimping yourself.
Best luck build in game history.
Real. literally every luck perk is awesome
I couldn’t even get past the guy getting into the suit before I turned it off. Trash.
11 years on and this video is still accurate
I was hooked into this game like meth when it came out, didn't give two fricks about the story all i can remember is just zoning out looting and shooting and building my base, was honestly surprised when i learned most people seemed to dislike it
