Howcome Africans failed to hunt down any of their megafauna to extinction?

Seems like the megafauna extinction in the americas was a combination of a rapid shift away from an ice age and a sudden appearance and explosion of human population. Also "failed" is a weird word to use here, as if Grug and Ug were intentionally trying to wipe out mammoths

Like almost all human related extinctions are unintentional. It's not like they sat down and thought to themselves that they would kill these things off if they keep over hunting them.

The most recent example was the passenger pigeon and this was modern man. The birds used to have massive populations due to their high sociability. Because they flew low and there were so many of them you could literally just point your musket up to the sky and get tonight's dinner with zero effort. Plus they had pretty feathers for crafts.

Americans were born under this cultural ease of just fricking shooting the things as they flew by for food. Within a single generation of human expansion a person who remembered massive swarms when they were a kid saw fricking nothing when they were 50. Guess what, even with early "ecologists" pointing out the birds were diminishing nobody gave a frick.

Down to the very last 14 or so pigeons they were shot and killed on sight. Because Frick you it's my god given right to eat that pigeon!

Humans are no different than any other animal that's in an unrestrained environment. It consumes and dabs over everything that can't adapt to it to the point of even fricking over itself in the long run and condemning its descendants to starve. The thing that makes us better is we can see it happening, but it takes a look of cultural manipulation to get us to do shit about it and even that is a struggle (I.E the west keeping their oceans under control while the asiatics starve themselves of aquatic life).

Elephants and most megafauna had been living with humans who were hunting for thousands of years by that point. Once humans left African and went to places like Asia, Europe, North America, etc. most of the megafauna had never had to deal with humans before and where quickly killed off before they had a chance to adapt. The ones that didn't ended up getting killed off more slowly over time by humans. Mammoths lasted longest in places that humans were slow to get to such as north eastern Siberia and Alaska. This can best be seen in how the Romans killed European Lions, How the American's almost killed the buffalos, and how Rhinos probably are going to be killed off within the next century. Another good example is Killers Bees were just going about their business normally, but once brought to North America quickly became the only dominant bees in the entire Northern Mexico and American South West region.

It's also probably IQ related. Archeologists think Mammoths were killed off by using special scare tactics to cause the mammoth to run off cliffs to their death.
This is something most of Africans wouldn't think of doing.

How did they get rid of mammoths in places that didn't have cliffs, though?

Mammoths traveled a lot like most grazers. There would always be a good location to drive them to their death. It doesn't take much of a distance to cause an animal that large to get killed by its own body weight.

Also, like everything in the elephant family they take a very long time to reproduce and grow to maturity. Wiping them out based on gluttony would be pretty damn easy.

you should look up african spear hunting. it's a whole village turning hippos into a pincushion, it's not efficient at all

To be fair, how would you even kill a hippo without a gun? The things are hardier than even armor-skinned Rhinos.
