It isn't. I bought the entire set of 12 Magnetic Heroes (+furniture, pets and other stuff) off of them last year as a project for our local RPG club.
The models were fine, I don't remember any miscasts, but in some places magnet holes required some additional drilling to fit properly. No biggie though.
It's a funky set and very modular, what's with almost 200 hand options, but definitely a bit of an overkill for even the most dedicated D&D groups. For a hobby store, gaming club or something of that sort - top stuff.
Picrel is the Fighter from that set I painted (I know, not that great); sadly, couldn't find the wizard mini in the phone gallery. I hope Artel pulls their shit together and puts out similar Heroines and Villains sets as they originally planned soon, it's great fun.

Here's their Monk mini, by the way

Any cool irregular combos if you mix items and heads/bodies from different characters?

Sadly, not much photos from me, but there definitely are more than a few. With a full set and alternative heads you could go nuts, up to a Drow Paladin with spiderweb shield; heavy crossbow and enchanted bolts half-ork ranger, Barbarian with an axe and a tankard, some freaky flaming zweihander build and so on. The hands and heads are totally interchangeable by design, so you can go nuts.

(also, if I had a chance to do the same set all over again, I'd rather go with a muted, 'dirty' color pallet for the entire troupe - while it's lovely to have the heroes be bright and all in different colors, the compatibility between subsets of equipment suffers from it quite a bit)

Why would you need to switch parts often enough to require this?

Useful if you find yourself playing on the fridge door a lot of the time. Otherwise rather gimmicky.

I think the basic idea is good, but whether the product will be good is all in the execution.

Oh shit it's by Artel W. They do good work, for what it's worth.

Seems like overkill, my autism would prevent me from doing anything except painting them all to match as much as possible, and then probably never using more than one or maybe two configurations

Wargaming has made use of magnets for decades, it's not a bad idea.

Pretty cool tbh, as long as the contact points are not too janky/visible to allow for all those loadout pieces to connect ar different angles. Although this design choice is more in line with wargames, kinda off-putting to see it in rpg tbh.

Including magnets in the kid is a bit overboard

But that is the kind of accessory range we should be able to expect by now

Those are 1 mm x 3 mm cylindrical magnets, very narrow and long, haven't seen those anywhere else; and you need 3 per model and one per hand/head. I think it's a good choice on the part of manufacturer to include them.

Painting all these additional hands would be a pain in the ass

That's... Sadly, absolutely true. I never managed to finish all of them for the full set of Heroes, even using just the pretty basic techniques from the start, and trying to put on roughly the same skin tones in most cases.
