if you like games like lawn mowing simulator and house flipper you'll like it. You just walk from point a to b. The game is braindead and the combat should have been left out.
>lawn mowing simulator
shit mouse and keyboard driving controls, death stranding cars handle way better than the lawn mowers in it (both were on game pass)
It was refreshing. It's a Kojima game where somebody wasn't constantly whining about what he can or can't do. And so he made a game where the focus is in the navigation and not the goal.
It's peak Kojima but I'm biased as fuck since that man basically taught me English through MGS
It's a postapoc mailman sim. I like it. If you like Kojima's brand of autism and enjoy exploring places you'll probably dig it. The combat is kind of bare bones but it's also not the core mechanic of the game.
Biggest gripe is that there's an in-game music player but you can't use it when you're out walking around. Boggles my mind. Also I bought a Bridges cap to wear IRL but it was too small for my gigabrain and that made me kinda sad.
It's all above ground, IIRC. One of the main conceits of the game is that the rain makes things age very quickly, so stuff that's outdoors needs to be made of pretty specific materials or else it crumbles to dust over time. Thus the need for porters like the MC, who work to get stuff from A to B in areas where there isn't any infrastructure set up.
>Biggest gripe is that there's an in-game music player but you can't use it when you're out walking around.
What the fuck, really? Why...
I downloaded the game and was planning to play it when my huge ass 4K tv arrives next week, one of the biggest things i was hyped about was hiking across alien planet Iceland with kojimbos kino Indie music playlist in the background.
Because the moments when the songs play are very special. Music player would ruin it and fuck any retard who wants it in the game. You don't get what the game is about.
I'm the first guy and I get what you're talking about, but I really would have liked having the music player be accessible if you're on the Chiral Network. It would have been nice mood music for when you're bouncing around doing the optional deliveries.
yeah man, I want fucking billy joel as the only rock song in a military game that went out of its way to license period appropriate music. the licensed songs were shit and there's a reason people only bring up the originals when talking about its soundtrack.
Combat is basic and obviously not one of the main aspects (which makes sense being a mailman). It still pretty fun to punch MULEs with boxes or kick them until they down. You can pretty much clear any base by yourself when looking for shit >there's an in-game music player but you can't use it when you're out walking around
This. What the fuck Kojiima

>combat is bare bones
you didnt even try to experiment with the mechanics
If you liked MGSV (and hopefully any other MGS or Kojima games?) DEFINITELY play Death Stranding Director's Cut.
Its not MGS, but its a whole separate kind of Kojima weirdness (TM) mixed with "walking sim where walking is actually one of many traversal mechanics that are very in depths" apocalypse delivery postman collaborative asynchronous fun. Quite comfy, well made too. Also the Director's Cut enhances some of the combat potential, adds some new story areas, and even has a very much "this place is definitely inspired to feel like a sneaking mission" expansion among all kinds of other shit.
Its well worth it I think and despite the long wait for it to come to PC, they did a very good job with the port and even made it so that owners of the non Director's Cut could upgrade for like $10 and import their saves if they wished!
I think with the DC you can use the music player after a certain point, provided you're not on a mission or step into a situation that "overrides" it. If I'm wrong, then I am absolutely sure there is a mod that exposes it. Also exchange the Bridges cap. I was actually wavering on buying the ACRONYM jacket (which, for being stupidly expensive are actually quite well made) but sadly they sold out of what I hoped would be my size and have never restocked.
Im possibly being retarded here but i don't think you can truly enjoy the games visuals and vistas on a tiny PC monitor, one of the best things about it was playing it on a huge ass TV comfortably in my couch with a good audio setup(add poverty to the filter list for death stranding), really added to the immersion and grandeur. It's one of the most beautiful looking games ever made imo
size =/= quality. console can't output the picture quality of a mid range PC, especially on a game that's actually optimized well for PC like death stranding is.
I've not had a "tiny" PC monitor for years where the average is 27"+ and you're sitting close to it, , but even now one of the best monitors you can find for quality gaming (and even at a decent price) is the LG OLED C2 is a 42" TV (that also works well as a monitor, is 4K, 120hz Gsync/FreeSync, HDR, etc)
but yeah, even if that wasn't my monitor you can connect any PC to a TV in another room if you wish or if you have a receiver of some sort (a PC, set top box, even your phone etc) you can connect to a TV, you can use SteamPlay streaming across your house (or depending on your connections even online).
It is by definition a walking simulator, that being said, it was very enjoyable to navigate the map. I liked how structures/roads from other peoples saves would be added on to yours to make it feel like everyone was trying to reconnect the U.S. I still dont think it was worth full price because it is a slow burn but thats just me. Play and enjoy it yourself.
Get it on sale for like $20 and just make a weekend out of it.
If Kojimbo's name wasn't attached to it, it would have been forgotten a day after release.
It was a comfy game and I liked it way more then I thought I would've. First I hated all the multiplayer shit but by the second area I had to turn that on because it just got way too tedious.
Unironically the only imaginative AAA game to release in the last decade. Even if you end up not liking it, it is worth trying for the experience alone. It was perfect for my OCD tendencies. The gameplay really appeals to autismos
Stop outsourcing your opinions to Ganker. Play video games if you want to, don't if you don't.
If you like a game that the "le EBIC hivemind!1!" hates, tell them to stuff it.
You're (presumably) a grown man, or at least high enough into your teens to operate a computer, so act like it.
I haven't played it since release.
My favorite part was people liking the ladders and stuff I placed, so hopefully there's enough of a playerbase to place and use your tools
The product placement honestly so bold that I find it kinda charming. In a worse game it would probably bother me but there's something funny about watching Sam shotgun a shitty energy drink in what is obviously in-your-face product placement.
So many things that people hate about Death Stranding are the reason why it's actually good and unique. Thankfully Kojima was in charge of making the game and not some dumbass on Ganker.
The gameplay feels a bit simplistic and more like a proof of concept but the story and atmosphere are really engaging. I have high hopes for the sequel.
The post release threads here were retarded with Gankerermins shitting up threads. Well who's laughing now morons, even normies love this game now and we're getting a fucking sequel, DS2 BAYBEEE porterchads can't stop winning
>have attention span long enough to clear the tutorial >all the nifty terrain I had the patience to traverse is covered with a highway supposedly made by other players or some shit
I've never dropped a game so abruptly. imagine playing 2 hrs of a survival crafting game and it just builds a functional base for you the moment you learn how to do so yourself
It's pretty good if you actually bother to engage with the mechanics and unlock all the cool bonus shit, like the rocket booster/stabilizer combo for low-gravity jumping
I think it's pretty good.
It's a strange game in that it sort of gets easier the more you play it. There really isn't too much of a challenge unless you're trying to 5 star each delivery, and even that gets really easy in the endgame once you've built the tools you need to get those deliveries done quickly.
But it's a nice game.
It has some cool and very unique game mechanics that deserve to be explored more: the game simulates the weight of your backpack, and all the equipment on your body, and you literally need to balance yourself as you hike.
Basically it's a great hiking simulator and most of the challenge comes from planning an effective hiking trip through the mountains, and being able to react well when your plan gets upended by a giant oil whale squid.
on pc is one of the best porting ever made, I hope that this summer when demon souls and ghost of tsushima will come out they will make the same good work
Game where you literally watch a 2 hour long cutscene near the end, half baked mechanics and use of Hollywood actors is the best game in the last ten years according to this board. I played it and was intrigued because it was unique but I would hesitate to call it a success.
I loved the outdoor aspect of the game: rebuilding roads, crossing streams and waterfalls, hiking in deep snow across mountains, rushing through the rain, finding rare loot on the ground to deliver, ambience of the forest, etc. I ended up 100% completing the game with all the optional deliveries on the hardest difficulty and had ziplines to practically every important delivery location. Sometimes there are cinematic moments where ambience turns down, music turns up and camera pans out like in the very beginning, those moments can be done well, but often I'm zooming so fast they don't last long
HOWEVER much of the game is a festing hot pile of shit: the story, the cutscenes, the characters, the character names, the boss fights, war flashbacks(spoiler), that stupid fucking baby on your chest that cries all the time (I usually flatlined the bastard so he'd shut up until I went back to base to rest). The ghost monsters (I would get caught on purpose so they'd fuck off for atleast a minute or however long they despawn for)
I bought the expansion but haven't played it yet since it came out on PC not long after my 100% completion. Maybe I'll have to play through it again sometimes. I'd say watch some video of the gameplay (not the cutscenes) and you'll have a good idea if you'll enjoy it or not
It wasn't bad but I got bored and stopped giving a shit about the story 20 hours in. Also the online mode trivialized things by having a ladder around every corner.
gameplay is good, only open world game I've played where going from point A to B feels like an actual journey
I like the online aspects
the writing is all over the place and becomes really dumb at the end when it dumps literally over an hour of exposition at you, most of which is stuff you already figured out on your own earlier
Good graphics and good original gameplay. The story is the most fucking retarded cringe garbage I've ever seen in my life and Kojimbo deserved to get punched in the face just for writing such trash, also for killing Abe.
You already got filtered
bump
>it's only walking a to b
>combat should have been left out
Facetious dumbass
if you like games like lawn mowing simulator and house flipper you'll like it. You just walk from point a to b. The game is braindead and the combat should have been left out.
>lawn mowing simulator
shit mouse and keyboard driving controls, death stranding cars handle way better than the lawn mowers in it (both were on game pass)
>i didn't play the game
Comfy ludokino of the highest order, unironically one of the most unique games to come out in years. It filtered millions on release.
>protagonist speaks
Into the trash it goes.
Play it and make your own mind up, fag. At least divide games tend to be interesting.
It's good. Great even.
It was refreshing. It's a Kojima game where somebody wasn't constantly whining about what he can or can't do. And so he made a game where the focus is in the navigation and not the goal.

are there caves or is it only above ground, I like cave exploration
It's all above ground, IIRC. One of the main conceits of the game is that the rain makes things age very quickly, so stuff that's outdoors needs to be made of pretty specific materials or else it crumbles to dust over time. Thus the need for porters like the MC, who work to get stuff from A to B in areas where there isn't any infrastructure set up.
There are a couple ruined cities you can explore, although that's as close as you're getting.
god even the lore is gay
It's not an exploration game. Finding hot springs or whatever is fun but the main impetus is route planning and logistics.
>Biggest gripe is that there's an in-game music player but you can't use it when you're out walking around.
What the fuck, really? Why...

kojima's music taste is absolute shit, look at the licensed song selection in tpp
TPP had awesome songs.
it had pop garbage that wasn't listened to by anyone deployed in the 80s
>wasn't listened to by anyone deployed in the 80s
Nobody cares fucking retard
yeah man, I want fucking billy joel as the only rock song in a military game that went out of its way to license period appropriate music. the licensed songs were shit and there's a reason people only bring up the originals when talking about its soundtrack.
you can just use your own music
Combat is basic and obviously not one of the main aspects (which makes sense being a mailman). It still pretty fun to punch MULEs with boxes or kick them until they down. You can pretty much clear any base by yourself when looking for shit
>there's an in-game music player but you can't use it when you're out walking around
This. What the fuck Kojiima
>combat is bare bones

what did you do anon?
you sound like you played director's cut
If you liked MGSV (and hopefully any other MGS or Kojima games?) DEFINITELY play Death Stranding Director's Cut.

anon, you do know you can hook up any PC to any modern TV yes
size =/= quality. console can't output the picture quality of a mid range PC, especially on a game that's actually optimized well for PC like death stranding is.

WHACHU LOOKIN FOR DUMBASS
It's very unique for sure. But seeing as you're an NPC who enjoyed Phantom Pain, you probably won't appreciate DS.
It is by definition a walking simulator, that being said, it was very enjoyable to navigate the map. High budget weird and unconventional games. Nothing else is really like it, so the only way to know is to try it yourself.
Unironically the only imaginative AAA game to release in the last decade. Even if you end up not liking it, it is worth trying for the experience alone. It was perfect for my OCD tendencies. The gameplay really appeals to autismos

HELLO!!
IM SAM!!
>do this for the missions where you're delivering a person
>they all react to Sam
>they all think he's some kind of schizo
HEY I'M SAM TOO
>that blatant advertising for Reedus' shitty roadtrip show on AMC
I refuse to use this fucking bike, fuck you
The product placement honestly so bold that I find it kinda charming. In a worse game it would probably bother me but there's something funny about watching Sam shotgun a shitty energy drink in what is obviously in-your-face product placement.

They removed it, btw. I think ME didn't want to pay anymore. kek
Nope, still there. It gets changed to beer when you do a certain mission though (which somehow still gives you extra energy)
Are you playing the normal version or the DC?
>Product placement is good when Japan does it
Unironically yes
Ive actually seen this show and it's pretty fun tbh~
The gameplay feels a bit simplistic and more like a proof of concept but the story and atmosphere are really engaging. I have high hopes for the sequel.
Euro Truck simulator + snow mountain hiking

Damn right, we won. Cheers to strand genre.
>yoji shinkawa
this bro is still whoring his art to kojima? SHAME
wdym whoring out gay? They've been working together for decades, yoji shinkawa is probably the 2nd most important creative mind behind MGS
literally raiden again
One of the best games of the past decade.
it's good if you have an attention span longer than 10 seconds and an iq over 100

OP here
Thanks fags Ill buy it next time it goes on sale.
why don't you get it on epic right now?
I try to limit the amount of chinese spyware on my computer.
It's hit or miss, I ignored it after reading people opinions, but when I played it was my fav big game in loong time. I hate mgs v though.
It's pretty good if you actually bother to engage with the mechanics and unlock all the cool bonus shit, like the rocket booster/stabilizer combo for low-gravity jumping

Boring empty wasteland without story.
I haven't played the Director's Cut, but I loved the original. It's generally great, just not for everyone.
director's cut made early games easier and lets you use ziplines with a floating cart
