Any hack for playing it on NTSC mode?

Best Asterix console game ever hands down, and probably the best system exclusive for the MS.

The funny part is that the actual design and content of the game seems made by people who had barely any knowledge of the source material beyond maybe a single-page outline, but this makes it even more interesting 2bh.

I remember Asterix at the start of the 12 tasks movie greeting the viewers in various languages, Japanese included.
Surely it was niche, but Japanese people could read it since a decade at least.

I always thought that was kind of a joke about how widely translated the books were supposed to be (complete with period-accurate slanted eyes gag), but I just looked it up: Japan is listed as having received translations of "selected" books, but not the series as a whole. So it was probably "known", but not widely enough to guarantee a bunch of random Sega developers would know about it beyond the materials they received from the licensors.

Yeah, the Japanese Asterix games were made for the International market. There's an interview somewhere with the Konami staff that worked on the arcade game where they said that none of them had even heard of the franchise before when they were put to work on a game adaptation.

I can't speak about japanese, and I believe devs saying they never heard of the heroic gauls, but I actually started to read english and french thanks to Asterix.
I was fascinated by the fact his adventures were available in different languages.

Good game, although the lack of a proper final boss was a let down

Man Asterix and even Lucky Luke got some good games, how come no one was able to do a decent Tintin game?

Probably because Tintin lacks the heavy comical slant of those other two, plus isn't it also a considerably older franchise?

Tintin was the first real Franco-Belgian comic.

Though I'll say it's less about age and more about Tintin not really being a fighter. Tintin games always kinda struggle with figuring out how to actually translate the franchise into a video game. With Asterix and Lucky Luke it's easy to just make a beat-em-up/run-and-gun.

That's kind of what I meant, Tintin's style of comedy is less slapstick action sort and more subtly satirical, like that one book with some military coup where literally the only thing that changes for that country is the name of the dictator.

I could imagine it working as some kind of a Lucasarts style point & click adventure where you spend a lot of time investigating places and objects and talking to people.

Lucky Luke creator Morris grew up reading Tintin and says that's what got him into comics.

isn't the SNES game okay? I never played it but I remember seeing the ads in magazines back then and thinking it looked cool

The issue with Tintin is that devs were forced to keep as close as possible to the original comics by the estate.

Im almost certain this is the same engine as the MS mickey mouse game. Shares a few staff members and it certainly feels the similar to me

Right in the nostalgia... Our local library had a big rack of these books and Tintin. Someone has surely scanned these to PDF, I should search for them now before I forget for several years.

In all seriousness, it looks pretty good. I always liked the "graph paper" design of the master system boxes.
