Overwatch was legitimately good game in it's first year, probably the best shooter since TF2. I'm not sure if I'd call it GotY but people often forget how good that game was.
No multiplayer game can ever deserve goty because a multiplayer game is by definition designed to be played forever, not just through once the year it released
2014 should have been Dark Souls 2
2015 should have been GGXrd
2016 should have been Titanfall 2 or Inside
BotW, GoW18, Sekiro, and TLOU2 deserve it
2021 should have been RE8 or Bowser's Fury
2022 should have been Sifu or KOFXV
Believe it or not these awards do impact sales and do sway publisher decisions for years to come.
Alan Wake 2 *yawn* not even a question. Only game this year that uses the medium of videogames meaningfully and creatively to enable unique storytelling and a formulative experience. Everything else just gave people exactly what they wanted, or more of they wanted. Alan Wake 2 gave people something different, distinct, special.
>2014
Terrible year, but I’d give it to Bayo 2 >2015
TW3 is overrated but I’ll allow it >2016
Don’t care, shit year for vidya >2017
Totk is a better game but I can’t think of anything that should have won over Botw >2018
RDR2 or MH World should have won >2019
Ok >2020
Hades should have won >2021
Shit year, don’t care >2022
Ok
To add to this, none of the years pictured were outright bad and people really need to stop using whatever TGAs nominate as a yardstick for how good any given year was for vidya. It's not just one of literal hundreds of GOTY ceremonies, it's one that pretty regularly omits the standout examples of every category every year. I'll be legitimately shocked if Bayonetta Origins or Clash: Artifacts of Chaos get recognised for their art direction this year.
Witcher 3, Elden Ring and Sekiro.

Botw, Sekiro, elden ring. Tw3 deserves goty as well, it has soul but I prefer bloodborne. The rest are shit.
From games. Arguably Witcher, even though there were better games that year. Arguably BotW
None.
Witcher 3, Zelda and Elden Ring are the more "GOTY-like" games imo
Witcher Zelda Last of Us
Why do people care about the results of the advertisement awards so much?

Proof?
RE8 was fucking garbage
>deserved
witcher
zelda
sekiro
it takes two
elden ring
>its all bland slop
these games all blend in with each other. none of them deserve shit.
holy shit
>It Takes Two
Must’ve been a weak year, I don’t really remember
it takes two is legit amazing
>Must’ve been a weak year, I don’t really remember
Psychonauts 2 and It Takes Two were pretty good that year.

>all slop
things are bleak right now
It Takes Two is legit amazing tho.
only witcher 3 is good among them
Overwatch and Inquisition won goty? Seriously?
The goty Awards only popped up on my radar when sekiro won.
Some of those were really shit years, I can't think of a better replacement for It Takes Two. Inquisition and Overwatch being there is goofy.
Surprised that Sekiro made GOTY, but yeah it deserves it. Rest I don't care.

I don't agree with any of them. The only one I'd personally put in even a top 5 for any of their respective years is BOTW.

>no indie game has ever won
It's just a fucking popularity contest
Dragon Age Inquisition is the best game on that list and I'm tired of pretending to hate it because Ganker tells me to hate it.
