Sawyer really needs to remove that stick from his rectum. He was always a very "no fun allowed" type of a guy.
>no, we can't have high fantasy elements in our high fantasy story, it's stupid
>no, we can't have weird and bizarre companions like Ydwin, this is a serious setting
>no, interparty relationships are a waste of time, why would anyone would like to attach themselves to the companions?
What game?
pillars of eternity 2: deadfire
Deadfire. It looks cooler than it is in reality.
>tedious campaign
it's what, 4 missions + a handful from the faction you sided with. i do remember people whining about it because they overleveled before touching the main quests but thats on them for waiting until they were lvl 20 just to do hasongo
What game IS THAT?
The background artwork is fucking amazing. The guy responsible for it was seriously wasted on this project.
I hate this game so much. The "story" is complete garbage.
>hurr durr you wouldn't understand, mere mortal
Eothas' plan made no fucking sense
>I am going to royally fuck over the humanity for fucks and giggles but I am saving you, so it's fine, I makes sense in my head. You fix this mess yourselves, somehow. No, I won't tell you how. My job is done, no need to thank me, thxkbye!
Is it really so bad? I'm not too much into CRPGs, but I loved BG2. Tried the first PoE but got bored because too much text, specilly too much lore dumps which weren't all that interesting. Isn't PoE2 any better?
the writing only went downhill, which also means the new companions aren't great either
oh shit, well guess I'll play the older titles instead, like Planescape or Arcanum.
Are the Pathfinder games any good when it comes to gameplay snd story? From outside they seem to pander to furries and fags which honestly is not my thing.
>pander to furries and fags
literally a Pathfinder game lol
>Are the Pathfinder games any good when it comes to gameplay snd story?
They are fine. I still think BG2>WotR, and that's not even a contest, but I would say Pathfinder games get the appeal of Infinity Engine games better than PoE games. I helps that they aren't made by a pretentious twerp with a hateboner for Baldur's Gate, who thinks he knows better how to make the IE games than the people who made the IE games.
>Are the Pathfinder games any good when it comes to gameplay snd story?
I only played a little and I liked the setting.
>Are the Pathfinder games any good when it comes to gameplay snd story
They are not perfect story/companion wise and Owlcat had to cope with the fact Wrath was written during the peak of SJW craze by absolutely incompetent californian morons, but they did a very good job with the source material they were given. Even then, several companions that are either Owlcat originals or heavily rewritten characters from source material are top tier, far better than the garbage from PoE.
Gameplay wise if you like DnD 3.5 you will like it, Kingmaker has a slow burn kingdom management mode, Wrath has HoMM styled military campaign on top of its basic gameplay. Both games have excellent itemization and insane build variety.
There is still someone at Owlcat who tries their hardest to shit everything up. Whoever is in charge of writing ending slides is lazy as fuck and hates companion endings, especially romances. Valerie, Camellia, and Arue are done incredibly dirty.
>Camellia
Look, if you are this stupid to unionically romance Camellia, you deserve this shitty ending.
Simps get the rope.
I don't think there was any conscious decision to fuck things up. It was just a genuine russian laziness.
Even with the shallow ending slides, Arue is still among the most saccharine romances in all cRPGs and i can just headcanon the rest.
>shit waifus get bad epilogues
>best girl Jaethal gets a great one
based writer
You get a very cute ending for the twins. They knew what they were doing with them.
Yes, too bad the twins are an afterthought due to being a DLC affair and have almost no content.
Kalikke especially is almost a non-entity.
The ending slides were just heinously HEINOUSLY lazy. Just one and a half paragraphs of nothing for every character.
They didn't even care enough to write something stupid, like Viconia's romance ending in BG2. She fucking dies.
Viconia's ending makes perfect sense if you know your FR lore and know who Shar is and how she operates.
Viconia made a mortal sin of deciding to be happy and Shar can't have that.
She wasn't killed by Shar, she was killed by Lolth.
Yes, but that fits Shar's MO perfectly. Lolth can't get to Viconia, because she's under Shar's patronage, and Shar is way more powerful of a deity than fucking Lolth. But the second Viconia decided to fall in love, which is actively verboten in Shar's dogma (Shar even demands that they clergy have to kill their lovers or else), Shar decided to step back a bit and have Lolth have her way with Viconia.
It's fitting that in the ending where she DOESN'T fall in love, nothing bad happens to her.
I can see you, Shadowheart simps. Have fun out there!
But Shadowheart has already killed her loved one to become part of the church, so it's all good!
Shadowheart is a half-elf. She's going to be killed by an entity much more powerful than Shar. Much more powerful than Ao himself.
Jeremy Crawford.
Consider that people don't like having their favourite characters killed off in an epilogue out of nowhere and that is fucking stupid storytelling.
Imagine if the epilogue of Lord of the Rings after Frodo sails away and Aragorn is reigning as king was 'Frodo's ship sank and everyone drowned including Gandalf because some evil under the sea found one of the Silmaril and also Gondor was wiped off the map by a post-war plague they weren't equipped to treat.' Would the realism of the excuses justify that retard-writing?
Owlcat game would be perfect if they stop trying to add half ass mechanics from others genres.
Those mechanics are from the tabletop. I actually genuinely liked kingdom management and the game gave you insane leeway with it. Wrath's battle campaign was as unintrusive as it gets, but added a lot of flavour text and unique gear.
And those companions who have potential to be good or even great, are reduced to being sidekicks with no content.
It's like this game is deliberately trying to troll everyone.
Somehow it's actually even worse, because it doubles down on all the things people disliked in POE1, while ignoring what fans actually wanted.
>you disliked Aloth and Pallegina? I see, in the sequel you get even MORE Aloth and Pallegina. Oh, you wanted a pale elf companion? What are you a waifufag?
Far worse. For me it even ruins whatever I liked about PoE1.
its dry. its so very very dry..
That's Saywer for ya. He loves dry. He's an unfeeling robot who thinks emotions happen to other people. You want emotional, you go with Avellone.
>Great art direction
Mish mash of pre-rendered shit with inconsistent lighting.
>technology
Unity shovelware.
>setting
Literally just DnD with lolsorandom race swaps for fringe races, but still retains all the tropes as to not offend or drive away DnD spergs.
>gameplay.
LOOOOOOOOOL
>All it wasted with shitty wiriting and a tedious campaign.
The entire Pillars foray was a fucking waste, the whole nu-crpg resurgence was total fucking aids for the genre.
Shame everyone who likes Pillars of Eternity gameplay
The combat was the most fun part. Story was entirely forgettable and drug out.
I got real fucking sick of hearing the entire cast of Critical Role voice what felt like every single character in the same 1-2 slightly different accents.
well, at least they got money from Blackrock. Right?
Well, no, no they didn't. Hence why they are now owned by Microsoft.
Is Megan Starks still in Obsidian?
1 showed promise but man the sequel was such a waste.
I think 1 showed promise only in DLC. If they took DLC as a base line for a sequel, coupled with characters as funny as Zahua, it could be an amazing game. Instead, we got more paladin vagina.
>Pallegina
>paladin vagina
Oooooh, I finally get it. Sawyer, you cheeky cunt!
The sad thing is: everybody could see that this shit won't fly even during the Figstarter era, but Sawyer essentially ignored all the fandom's criticism from the get-to and went with his own autheur vision. He's a very strong proponent of "fans are stupid and don't know what they want" approach.
The issue is it wasn't a good vision and now here we are.
post the twitter image of sawyer telling you to look up porn because apparently being sexy is not allowed in games
And yet he greenlit the gay fish, that was about as fetishistic and pandering as it gets.
>choose ~~*Vailian Trading Company*~~
>get the best ending
What a twist.
With garden gnomes you sometimes win, I guess.
I love that the game gets actually salty at you for refusing to engage with that stupid political subquest Sawyer loves so much and actively tries to punish you for it.
It's like Fallout New Vegas sperging out that you picked the Yes Man ending. But unlike in FNV, you have no reason whatsover to engage in that political subquest in Deadfire.
Im tired of pretending that walls of text is good storytelling, just cut your fucking shitty writing and text in half and let me play the fucking game (this goes for all modern CRPGs)
Walls of texts themselves are fine. Walls of *dry* text are a problem. And Sawyer can only do dry.
FO4 is perfect for you, then.
I think the scope felt too limited. Every NPC you talk to had a Purpose, often copy-pasted like the bounty givers.
The only "random" fights were the ship ones, which played out identically every single time.
I could put up with the effete, overbalanced mechanics if the game had any world-design verisimilitude, rather than feeling like a sandbox.
