reminder that it's only a movie game if you just went from story mission to story mission while ignoring the open world which is the most retarded way to play this game

      >Bro just invent artifical restrictions for yourself and follow nebulous unmentioned boundaries instead of how YOU want to play it
      >that makes the game good you see
      No

        literally saying don't restrict yourself

The world is empty outside of the story. And they're is so much emphasis put on Dutch just 'getting more money' and all the retards in the camp want you to help them with something that the world just feels like a backdrop.
And if you dare do something in a mission before an NPC prompts you, or step outside the zone, that's a fail baby.

And I will add that I hated almost every single character and just wanted them to shut the fuck up. Who thought it would be a good idea to make a giant open world then have half the game be dickheads just chatting shit endlessly.

All the side activities and stranger missions are locked to the story progression, like in all GTA games, you fucking retard. You can't just fuck off from the main story because there's no content in the world until you trigger it through the story

    >wasted potential: the game
should of NEVER developed this for last gen, and given themselves a few more years

It's still the most ambitious and best looking game of all time and it's been 4 years. Anon nothing has been wasted (other than no Next-gen patch lol).

Played, it, enjoyed it, never went back to it. It's a mediocre game despite how "good" it looked. I rate all my games on replay value and it has none, they even somehow managed to ruin the online by not adding anything, which is bizarre considering how insanely popular GTAO was.

The people that hate this game claim some outlandish shit that is just entirely made up. I've seen people say that the character movement in RDR2 is Rockstar's worst ever, these people will unironically say that RDR1 had better controls, just making it up in their head off of memories from playing it 12 years ago. RDR2 is by far the best controlling Rockstar game, the movement is so much better than RDR1, not only is it more responsive, it is more precise, it is all around a massive improvement.

Yet you still see posts that shit on the 2nd game for having "worse movement"

I'm convinced that RDR2 will never be outdone in terms of sheer world detail.

It looks georgeous and the open world is unrivaled in terms of detail and shit to discover. However, at its core it will always remain a mediocre third person shooter. Rockstar's incompetence is fucking infuriating. They designed one of, if not the greatest sandbox and did absolutely nothing interesting with it.

It's not incompetence, its designed to be as accessible as it possibly could be, the main story is anyway, which is a weird disconnect in RDR2 because I wouldn't exactly say its a normie game because of how slow it is, if there was any game for them to switch things up and do something more interesting with the mission design, this game would have been it. But I guess with how expensive it was and how much went into it, they wanted to play it safe with the campaign.
It does kind of suck though because it would be so much better had the missions been more open ended. Rockstar is good at the spectacle, they give mission gravitas and meaning with good cutscenes for mission intros and outros, there's also generally fun dialogue too, but then the actual mission itself is just the same thing over and over.

Still, even with the lazy mission design, the game is anything but mediocre, I'd still call it one of the greatest games I've ever experienced and that's in spite of the missions. I have played the game an additional 150 hours since beating it, that says something about the world.

    By what metric?
I find most Rockstar Games to be unenjoyable, because I don't like sandbox open world games. They are often technological marvels though, and I appreciate that a lot.

I found it boring, finishing the story was a struggle the gameplay kinda sucks the weapon variety was minimal. I don't have anything against open world games, but give me a reason to explore, I don't care if it's for leveling up stats, finding weapons, armor etc. just a reason. RDR2 was basically just a story game and the world around it beautiful but basically devoid of content.

Exactly how I felt. The game actually stopped you having fun in a lot of missions by failing as soon as you stop following the NPCs directions

Such a great and lovingly crafted world and top technology to boot. I'm really bummed out they had to make it le ebin movie game with a very hostile attitude to player agency. It's not even that you don't have any agency, it's that you are only ALLOWED by the developers to have one type of agency in a single direction. In-fact you continually get punished for having the wrong kind of agency.

if you ignore Mexico, maybe. The first chapter of the game in New Austin is god tier but the rest of the game doesn't live up to it.
