>Longtime Valve employee Greg coomer (at Valve since 1997) said that making games remains "very important" to Valve
>"Valve has a lot of games in development. We will continue to release games," Coomer said. "Game development is very important to Valve. I don't know the exact numbers, but the percentage of employees involved in game development is high. A lot of people are involved."
>"Half-Life: Alyx was a really fun game to make," Coomer said. "Even for [those of] us who worked on that world, it's still fun to go back there and tell more stories.
>"Also, there are many challenges in virtual reality, and it was an interesting task to solve them. Half-Life works are always accompanied by technological innovation, so it was a big step in that sense as well ... Half-Life: Alyx is a sign that Valve has more to say about that world.
https://www.pcgamer.com/valve-once-again-insists-that-it-has-a-lot-of-games-in-development-wants-to-continue-exploring-half-life/
just give us a solid non vr half life fellas, c'mon. 10 hour game tops, this year, release it. Fricks sake.
frick you I want more valve VR games, Alyx is one of the best games of all time, poorgays coping wont change that
>one of the best games of all time
>poorgays
imagine compensating for the only good vr hardware out there, and for the only good vr game out there
jesus man
>and for the only good vr game out there
Pavlov is fun, Into the Radius is fun
I dont understand what the whole post means but there are a bunch of great vr games there just isnt enough
if your eyes cant see vr parkinsons tremors your eyes confirmed for working at 30hz
> Alyx is one of the best games of all time
Alyx is a glorified fricking Wii game almost entirely built around their shitty fricking motion control 4.0 crap
instead of giving me kino immersion it gave me fricking float hand porn, frick that piece of shit and frick VR if all it's ever gonna do is jerk motion controls in your face
and as HL game it shit the bed as hard as humanly possible, double frick you points for that
Alyx isn't even one of the best VR games nevermind one of the best games
i can tell you havent played alyx. but going back to keyboard and mosue after playing half life in vr will feel like going back 5 generations
>Alyx
>shitty movement
>fewer enemies
>claustrophobic maps
>HL2
>speed
>open world sections in Episode 2
>diverse enemy types
painfully obvious youve never played Alyx
waggle eyescreen gay cope
Go shoot some more headcrabs.
the half life 2 VR mod on steam is so much better than Alyx it's not even funny
Half-Life 2 VR just proves you wrong. Alyx is a great introduction to VR. A sequel doesn’t have to be held to that standard. It can ramp things up as hard as any half-life game ever has.
VR is not an outright replacement for mouse and keyboard gaming. stop pretending it is
I still haven't finished Alyx. I fricking hate the effort to get VR going.
>clear space
>Close door so wife doesn't see me/film me and post to facebook
>Get tether out
>Put on helmet
>Turn on
>Take off helmet so I can load up Oculus App and Steam VR
>Put helmet back on
>Redraw boundary
>Wait 5 minutes for everything to load
>Enter VR wired mode
>Enter Steam (another 5 minutes)
>Start game
>Pause after 2 minutes to defog
>Repeat step 3 times
>Finally play game
>30 minutes in sore eyes and a headache
It's just a chore. I don't like V.R. for *games* so much as I do interactive movies. Not that there are any good ones released on there.
The one thing that keeps me hopeful and intrigued is the reaction I had to horror games. I played Affliction. On a desktop it would be a complete waste of time and dull, not to metion I've never been scared by a game, and very few movies. However, despite playing the low rez mobile quest version of the game (on sale) I was barely a couple of minutes into it and I was legitimately terrified. Not "movie scared" but actual "real world" scared. To the point that, even with being in a room with my friend cooking and talking on the phone, I had to stop, relax, and start again. It's hard to explain - my reactions were physiologically closer to an experience happening to me, than they were to playing a game or watching a movie.
door so wife doesn't see me/film me and post to facebook
beta cuck detected
>30 minutes in sore eyes and a headache
I upgraded to a Vive Pro 2 and I can play for hours the only limit being my physicality
>Oculus App
You made the mistake of getting Facebook VR instead of something actually good. With the Index I just start SteamVR and I'm good to go
>Put on Quest 2
>Configure standing VR without drawing boundaries but it was probably pre-configured before
>Click on Air Link button
>Click on game button in recents
>play
hell no. vr only
You don't understand anon. For a Half-Life to release it NEEDS to be innovative and revolutionise the industry.
Man I just want a conclusion to a story.
you know what's innovative and revolutionary? a fricking good game releasing in current year, that's what's innovative and revolutionary
I just want another atmospheric dystopian FPS with solid gameplay and an engaging story
Attend American highschool
I just want another half life game to play through with my synergy bros and assets to play with on garrysmod
then put it on the steam deck, there's yer innovation
no it doesn't. from the perspective of the hl1 devs, they were just making a generic fps.
>a solid non vr half life
It's like you admit that you want them to not innovate with the next one and actually go backwards just to cater to you.
They will probably make hl3 for vr, if they ever make it. Gaben likes to push the boundaries with the hl games.
>"Valve has a lot of games in development.
They always have games in development, and 99.9% of them are scraped because there is no metric or requirement to push it out the door.
>We will continue to release games,
With no deadlines or timelines meaning SOMETIME
Valve says the same shit since 2004, in other news people who swim get wet.
They made Alyx in 2020
Cool 1 game, in a hiatus of how long13 years or so? Hell even Ep1 and Ep2 were outsourced for a large part of the development before scrapping.
That's the thing, valve from all accounts of ex employees and interviews have no set standard of a work environment or structure. Unless you listen to "I heard it trust me bro" Tyler vicker, you're barking up the wrong tree. The only restructuring that went on to any extent was gaben moving to NZ because the nogs in the North West were yukky!
>valve makes so much money from steam they just let the game devs do whatever they like
sounds like a cool place to work, where do I sign up?
try their website
their website
they hire plenty of people
but its a grueling interview progress people say
they also have a bunch of lefty progressive types who will probably drive the company into the ground once the old timers finally die or retire
Volvo is pretty much the only old type company. It won't hire you because you slaved in coomer college for 10 years and got three degrees, but they'll hire some kids who made a walking sim gabe and the boys personally liked.
Didn't they say that they will restructure?
wow i would be excited 10 years ago actual nah probably not
Half Life Blue Shift 2 confirmed!!!
>hated original Blue Shift because it's a short boring wet fart of an expansion pack
>play Black Mesa's Blue Shift remake
>it's fantastic
Black Mesa did the expansions?
Different team recreated it with the BM assets and a few other things. It actually is way more interesting and feels like a real Bareny backstory than blue shift was.
Yeah, Chapter 4 of the new Blue Shift was out in December I think. Goes all the way up until Barney gets sent to Xen for the first time. Really recommend it.
thanks but no thanks
>muh politics
Who the frick cares.
don't tell me, i didn't put it there
You're the one who went looking for it.
no, i went looking for what the actual fricking requirements for the mod is. couldn't find it. did find that.
>country defending itself from invaders = BAD
>implying Ukraine is a "country"
lol
die
Having an actual posse of people form around Barney is really cool in the 90's disaster movie way.
I ship otis with the lady scientist.
opposing force was way better than half life 1
Where's that screencap of the redditor the fessed up to being the one that caused this change? I hope that fricking moron has a shitty life
The playtester was me btw
You're a braindead piece of shit, the damage people like you have caused to the design of games is irreparable and I hope you fall down a long flight of stairs
Those cave sections were still shit. Worst part of EP1
That's from EP2 dummy
Microtransactions really aren't shit. THIS is what killed video games.
>He got paid to run to the right for half an hour
I want that job
>get stuck in a maze
>do wallhugging, not the stupidest idea in the world
>but there's a loop so you get ridiculed for the rest of your life
rotten luck
>wallhug
>doesn't work
>try again 200 times
it was probably a long loop. i don't get why they didn't just add a landmark or two.
>greg coomer
its the year of Prospero
haha coomer
Where's the artifact troony?
RICOCHET CHADS OUR TIME IS NOW
>coomer confirms HL3
FULLY
MODELED
CERVIX
So what was this for again? wasn't it the cinematic mod?
correct. I actually liked the cinematic mod but the ferns I think triggered more people than the vegana
Let's see that puss, gaygit!
It's sad, but I really don't think there will ever be another Half Life anytime soon because Valve is obsessed with "innovation". Which is a fine thing to strive for, but we're nearing the end of Moore's Law and only so much can be done with VR that doesn't involve brain chips. What people really expect from the Half Life franchise isn't "innovation", but more Half Life. Like ten years from now, Half Life Alyx's legacy will not be "oh man I can pick up bottles and see the liquid inside" or "wow I can bully headcrabs by trapping them under buckets", but character and plot related stuff like the lobotomized vortigaunt, the vortigaunt mural, the Xen infestation zone, and of course the G-Man at the end. Those things are neat additions to the franchise. The VR stuff is cool and innovative, but nobody will care in the long term - just like how nobody cares about all the physics seesaw puzzles in HL2. Sure, physics were extremely innovative. But in the long run it quickly loses its relevance, not when compared to everything else about HL2. Valve needs to focus on getting a good game out in the hands of consumers and not jerking off to lofty ideas regarding sign language or some other bullshit.
on the contrary, innovation in VR right now should focus on getting costs down and resolution up, then you can add fun stuff like full body tracking without pricing out 99% of the market.
VR will gain in popularity as PC hardware catches up, only the 4080/4090 are capable of having a seamless experience with current gen VR hardware on any game that doesnt look like a cheap indie unity game
VR is a meme and has been since the 90s
haha yeah, 1080p is all you need rite xD
Unironically yes
That has nothing to do with wearing a fricking helmet on your head and wave your hands around like a moron. That's why VR is a meme. Who wants to do that shit other than turbo autists?
VR is literally the best way to play FPS games
>full body tracking
Yeah I totally want to prance around my living room like a redditor when I play games after work. Get fricking real.
I know your fat but maybe full body VR could be the push for you to stop being a disgusting lard ass
>he doesnt want to sparta kick people in the face in VR
fatty
I know your gay fisher price switch will have much more mass market appeal but the segment of the market that still likes to get immersed in a game for over 2 hours at a time is still pretty sizeable
sour grapes
I don't own a Switch, moron.
No, because dancing around in VR is basically playing pretend. I stopped playing pretend when I was a kid.
>stopped playing pretend
>plays video games
>Stopped playing pretend when I was a kid
>Still playing video games
Does someone wanna tell him?
>I stopped playing pretend when I was a kid.
>but I still play videogames
least_insightful_post.jaypeg
VR is never going to be mainstream, and it isn't because of cost. It's because you have to entangle yourself into it. My test is a simple phone call and how easy it is to: A. notice it, and B. get yourself untangled and answer it. Normalgays have lives and don't want to shut themselves off completely. Desktop and console gaming are the best balance between immersion and still existing in the real world. VR quickly takes its toll.
VR could've been a thing if the memedemic didn't happen and people weren't actually starving and playing on decade old rigs because you need a mortgage to buy a new gpu that would've costed 200 bucks in 2016.
Now it's fricking dead.
They could innovate in optimization techniques, physics, NPC AI, rendering technology, map generation, in-game systems, animation algorithms, etc. Progression leaps don't need to be VR or AR or anything hardware related really, we haven't reached a gaming technology peak like you're suggesting. The problem is that modern publishers are focused on meme features like ray tracing that tank performance for little gain in return.
I don't need any of that man. I just wanted to go to the arctic with Alyx and take out snow combine. I still play HL2 with mods to this day because it's a completely bewitching setting I could never get enough of but Valve needs to be the INDUSTRY INNOVATOR I fricking guess. I should just make an HL2 clone.
My point is that 'le innovation' isn't excuse to not make games for flat screens.
My metric is destruction physics and surpassing pre-conceived memory limitations. If your FPS gets outclassed by FEAR with mods in that department then you need to go back and fix it.
Gary, my beloved...
>he dosnt show up again
man alyx had some cool shit, but frick me does it shit the bed past the first 30%
early on you have vorts, the creepy living rat puzzles, all those 3d puzzles and then it turns into a boring slog
it desperately needed new weapon and enemies for second part
The final boss being an extremely scripted series of setpieces with a fricking strider poking around building rubble was also super lame. Not sure what the frick they were thinking with that.
The story is also probably a big factor why they can't get HL3 out. The combine are probably one of the most realistic implementations of an evil alien race in any media purely from the scale and how outclassed they are. It feels like they bit off way more than they could chew and made a situation with a ridiculous megalith dyson sober tier enemy to face against and half a dozen different massive cliff hangers all at the end of Ep2 that would be a nightmare to resolve properly. Hell we haven't even learned anything about the G-Man's employers which would be even bigger than the combine.
There's lots of situations where writers write themselves into a corner with no way out but HL3 is like the opposite, they wrote themselves into a minefield. The sheer scale and number of things in play now is a lot and honestly they'd probably need multiple sequels post Ep2 to properly resolve everything. They simply couldn't decide on what they want the story to be and therefore nothing ever got made.
Valve employee Greg Coomer (at Valve since 1997) said that making games remains "very important" to Valve
pull the other one, it's got bells on
>2023
>202
>4
>2004
>3
>2023 Half-Life 3 confirmed
Theres no way this dude is actually called COOMER LMAO
oh good they finally gave up on being a hardware ocmpany.
After their other failures, Steam Deck is actually good. Get over it.
lmao, Steam Deck is their biggest source of revenue right now. Future of the company.
Very doubtful. They can't be turning much profit on each unit. Not saying its not a success, but getting 30% of each game sale is way more profitable than a small profit or even a loss on each steam deck. The Steam Deck exists to bring people into the ecosystem.
source: anons shitty poopy ass
>COOMER
>Coomer
>2007
>more VR shit
>technological innovation
So Half Life """3""" will be made for the Deck.
Hopefully they do something interested with a mobile enabled platform.
>source: my blasted butthole
Who cares, we saw what "more Half-Life" from nuvalve looks like
literally 15 years too late
I want 30 hour long "on the rails"-like game set in half life universe.
>Coomer
Shephard bros we are so back
>Coomer
>COOMER
>Coomer
I wouldn't mind Half Life Coomer edition.
Wanna go to valve hq and set fire to everything VR related. In minecraft
You mena more VR crap?
I don’t want more Half-Life. I want Valve to honor their existing word to the community, finish Artifact Foundry, and hold the million-dollar tournament.
Valve screwed over the Artifact fanbase by cancelling the Artifact 2.0 beta without even allowing users to invite friends like they said they would in January 2021 and does not deserve your financial support for these gross consumer-unfriendly practices.

>Half-Life works are always accompanied by technological innovation
So I take it the next HL is coming when they release a new VR headset at best, at worst when we get magic brain-computer interfaces for games.
Will we get a sequel to Hunt Down the Freeman?
Ricochet 2
They should recreate the Dyson sphere scene from Epistle 3 in VR. Or something similar to that.
AY DIS homie NAME COOMER AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Half-Life: Alyx was fun but you could tell its a lower budget and lower focus project
While i would like hl3 be non VR, i would also like an AAA VR from valve.
Alex proved they could do a really good VR game, and since then control methods and VR controllers got solidified by Meta quest and index like design so they would be much less problems and more room to focus on the gameplay.
Okay but where is Neon Prime?
>Half-Life works are always accompanied by technological innovation
great
more gimmicks
I thought this was a map of iran from the thumbnail
It is going to be a VR game.
>GREG COOMER
if you're going to make a fake leak at least use a believable name
>he doesn't know
dr coomer in hl1 is a reference to him
Zoomers don't even play the first 5 minutes of Half-Life?
they are unironically being filtered by the monorail cutscene
>coomer
heheh
Clive Cumshot
Jimmy Jizzer
Edward Ejaculator
jerking off Mike
Jason Jackoff
Fred Fap
Walter Wank
Simon Orgasm
>MORE HALF-LIFE IS COMING
Heard that before, in fricking 2007.
2 more weeks
Where the FRICK is Neon Prime
What are they fricking waiting for
hl3 in two weeks, lads
where is project citadel?
Valve doesn't make games. They barely support the old games they bought out.
>GREG COOMER "MORE HALF-LIFE IS COMING
hah
I was assuming this would be one of those shitposts where OP‘s link is a url he made up but no there really is someone named Greg Coomer working at Valve
