GW is having a lot of supply issues with their kits, stock and releases lately. Could this be because they are devoting lots of production to The Old World? Is this going to be a huge release?

Who gives a shit, it's going to be garbage, and probably based in the same core setting as Age of Smegmar.

Nope. They even asked people which version of the original Warhammer Fantasy to follow.
Not to mention people can and will use their old armies. No AoS rules so stop spewing disinformation.

? It's s3t well before end times, they've said this multiple times

Its because they fricking suck at writing rules and can't make a good game out of it that resembles their new streamlined approach to games where they strip out all the character and flavour of armies and turn them all into generic grey mush. WHFB just has too much soul for them to handle. Look at how bland Kislev and Cathay are in TWW3 compared to any other faction.

Didn't you try to push this in the AoS general and got completely fricking ignored?

No on every count. Gw are c**ts. Am I supposed to feel good that they are putting the entire discontinued high elf range back into production?
They could have just not stopped producing it then. They could have rented the sprues to another production company selling no longer supported gw sculpts.

It's honestly better to learn all the moulds are broken than learn they killed fantasy and made bretonion plastic cost an arm and a leg on the after market than learn that they have just been hoarding the moulds.

Old world seems like its going to be shit. Its not even set at the end times like we would want.

Basically every fantasy fan knows that the best way to bring fantasy back is to have Teclis or another big name who survived the end times to see a way to undo the end times.
So you have Teclis in age of sigmar do some crazy shit to go back to the end times with prior knowledge and stop chaos from winning. Have the connection to the Realms in age of sigmar cut off and leave the "old world" in its own pocket with the potential for crossover in the way 40k and fantasy used to have.
Age of sigmar is simply what happens if chaos won, the old world could be what happens if chaos won but Teclis does time frickery and prevents total chaos victory. You still have chaos be inevitable.

Then you continue the story and setting, hopefully in a mostly stagnant place from there. Having the major powers shaken and chaos failing to win but still shaking the world a lot.

This satisfies nu fans who like age of sigmar, because it cannonises it and crosses it over into the old world without corrupting either game setting wildly.

The end times had some of the best/Newest plastic kits and gw will want to use them. Basically setting the new game at the end of 8th/end times but with the world continuing on instead of ending would be the best way to bring it back.

I despise the idea of playing a fricking historical warhammer fantasy battles game with nothing mattering because in 150 years age of sigmar happens. Having younger stupider versions of immortal characters and new named characters who probably just die of old age sucks

You don't need to "undo" the end times you fricking mongoloid. You need to realize that Age of Smegmar and Warhammer Fantasy are completely separate settings, with different cosmology and different base assumptions.

Literally all you need to "bring Fantasy back" is to start producing content for Fantasy as it was left off after Storm of Chaos. But, being a fan of Warhammer Fantasy, I don't want GW to do that, because I don't want GW to utterly ruin Warhammer Fantasy in the way they ruined Warhammer 40k. I want them to frick off, go and stay go.

Not really man. The corrupting influence of Chaos is just part and parcel of the grimdark, forlorn hope setting and a major part of WHFB's distinct aesthetics. I think you should try a different wargame. Conquest has similar themes and gameplay without evil being the ultimate victor.

nta but I think you can have grimdark without the setting's ending being predetermined and dated. tbh that sounds boring and also it's copped out because they get reborn as AoS characters anyway, so it's not even that grimdark.

That's a completely overcomplicated and unnecessary change, there's literally no reason why AoS shouldn't just be the continuation of the story besides your hatred of it

Teclis is literally a god now. Why would he reset the clock? I guess maybe the shard of Nagash in his mind would corrupt him over time, and he would try to reset that...?

Nagash is way more powerful than he could ever be in fantasy so there's no reason for him to want to go back either

I think Nagash is arrogant enough to think that it would all play it out just the same again but this time he would know Sigmar was going to trick him, so I see him time travelling as just marginally more probable than Teclis.

Fantasy battles revival could have made good on the botched destruction of said game, by reversing the worst decision ever (killing the world entirely)
It could be done in a way that let's ais exist and allows fantasy to actually be a game. Instead of some pseudo historical shit with all that it entails.

The problem with fantasy was that they only started building up one conflict that ended up overtaking the rest of the setting instead of having multiple ongoing conflicts and gently reshaping parts of the setting over time as they wanted to add new ideas.

As opposed to the original WHFB? Where the setting didn't move or do anything for its entire lifespan bar one attempt that was swiftly retconned?
Oh but when you bring that up as a beneficial point towards AoS grogs and secondaries will whinge about how storylines don't matter to a wargame.

WHFB was a decent setting that didn't offer a lot of interesting idea's, people will go on for days about how much better the lore was and how much more indepth it all was, but never actually expand on that point, because its fricking bullshit. The game system itself blew chunks and so will the old world if its trying to recapture the original tabletop feel. I cannot wait for all the spergs who got salty over a setting they only really missed once it was gone to not even bother with this terrible project GW are funneling resources into.

They're having supply issues because they never bothered to slow down release rates during the plague, and it worked out for them so they're constantly chasing that fear of missing out on limited release stuff instead of bothering to slot in the required machine time to produce older products that their game systems relied upon.
Because they're not operating as a wargames company that's keeping a wide range of supported games going, they're operating as a collectables company that happens to have some games attached for context.

Also there's zero chance The Old World is anything but a massive disappointment to almost everyone. If you wanted to keep playing Warhammer Fantasy, you would have. Or you would have changed to an alternative game system. If you just want fair normal fantasy miniatures instead of the AoS aesthetic there's way better options out there for fantasy miniatures that GW's and have been for fricking years.

The only people this gonna be for is the ones who don't understand/can't even conceive that other games/miniatures companies exist, and for the executives who just want to make sure that they have an in-production basis for licenced products.

It's also because Britain has tried to larp autarky without properly reindustrializing and rekindling their own agrarian production, which has been a mistake decades in making. It's like Britain's boomer politicians are unable to accept that they are not a great power anymore and aren't going to get favorable treatment in international trade just by being UK. There is nothing of value in UK anymore except cold cash money, and more of it is pouring out than pouring in because why the frick would anyone invest in Britain?

        >net importer runs the money printer hot to smooth over social issues instead of pursuing real economic reforms
It's a downward spiral. The more the pound devalues the less attractive Britain becomes for exporters, the lack of supplies drives up prices and the Bank of England is pressured to print money to try to drive prices down through government intervention thus bringing us back to the inflation problem. Germany will go the same way by the end of the year.

Screencap this. I work for the GW specialist games team - the rulebook is done and has been for some time. Covid put the release track back by at least a year. It was originally supposed to be released this year to coincide with the 40th anniversy and will instead be next year (I'm told)

The only reason, and I mean ONLY reason this game exists is because of the Total War franchise. CA threatened to pull the contract as they didn't know the Old World was being destroyed and GW realised it was cheaper to relaunch fantasy than lose the license (used to live in Horsham where CA is based, have friends that work there). There will be almost nothing new, all the "new" artwork is just artwork of old kits to make it look new.

        Anonymous

Yeah, and CA said they were going to can it before release as it was still in development.
GW couldn't afford to lose the amount they paying as it was a hell of a lot of money, hence why it was relaunched.

They're not actually especially bothered because the main reason it exists is due to keeping Creative Assembly sweet. They're expecting hype to carry it some distance but I wouldn't expect longer term support unless it sells well. It's not really costing them all that much because it's almost entirely old models. To my knowledge, there's maybe some new resin models but no plastics, but the model design and rules teams don't actually work together.

Because they'd just destroyed the IP they'd paid a bunch of money for, and replaced it with something else completely unrelated. Imagine you'd just agreed to make a trilogy of Star Wars games, and then Disney announces the Star Wars universe no longer exists, and has been replaced with another vaguely generic sci-fi universe. Wouldn't you feel a bit ripped off? Star Wars is a bad example as it's no where near as niche, but you get the jist.

The IP licensing costs for warhammer dont cost you frick all until you actually release the game and start paying royalties. Then GW starts taking a hefty pound of flesh. There's also no reason GW would even consider a dev ceasing development on a game a to be threat, or wait three fricking years to make said threat/wait for GWs announcement.

          >t. Had the displeasure of working on a dogshit warhammer mobile game

I don't think you're disagreeing with me chief, I'm not familiar with how it works I just know that was the most motivator, maybe CA were worried it'd impact their sales as it's a pretty niche universe? GW realised it would them less to relaunch WHFB that they'd make from the Total War games, so therefore it was cheaper for them to relaunch than lose the royalties for the rest of the games.

But we know already shit like Kislev are getting model ranges because the CA models were designed by GW not CA.

As I said, ALMOST nothing. Don't expect mass range refreshes, but I don't work with the models anyway and those teams are kept separate. I'd expect no more than half a dozen plastic kits and the rest in resin, or old stuff. Which to be fair is what most people want.

I wouldn't believe it because that implies GW has the capacity to plan instead of just publishing rules and minis that they think will give them money or retain their rights.

Just let fantasy stay dead, please. Nobody who actually made it good works there anymore, the artists are all gone and replaced with cheap digital art that looks like shit and designers who don't get any of the settings, and it'll just end up being the same broken mess that the other games have become filled with things like bear cavalry and demigryphs.

    Hear me out:

My ideal AoS would have been an RPG product line where the titular "Age of Sigmar" is actually a bizarro universe where Sigmar exists as a literal god of perfect order whose uncompromising sight keeps vigil over a nightmare of uncompromising, totalitarian rule. And the players are individuals who have been empowered by the last gasps of freedom to fight back.

This whole dogshit idea will fail on day one, everyone knows this.
GW jacked prices up yet again this month and no this system will not be spared from it. GW will do the same price jack next year as well in 2024 because frick you.
This shit will 100% suffer from the same problems as all current GW systems with nothing being fixed or being better.

Instead of spending time, effort, money and other resources on this useless dogshit and waste of time of fricking system, they should have spent all of that into the currently existing systems and address the issues and fricking fix them.

they don't fix the issues because to them they're not issues. They're selling points for meta churn.
Afer all, what killed WFB was that after 20 years, everyone had their ideal collection done and very few new items got sold. Shifting meta ensures people keep buying shit because people are idiots and competitive mode became the only mode.

BS what killed Fantasy was just GW and GW alone, they still sell the same 20 year old core Lizardmen in AOS now.
I am sure people would be willing to upgrade their core units with some sweet new minis, but there are no upgrades only the odd hero or elite unit every 5-10 years.

if mahreenes outsold (allegedly)the entire WFB line, if paints outsold the WFB line, they had frick-all incentive to do anything with it tbh. Investing too much in a product with much lower ROI is just not sensible. If those low sales were caused by GW (unlikely, they did agressively release plastic kits in 6th edition) or simply the fact that spacemens are more popular than grimdark fantasy doesnt change the fact.

homie have you ever heard of loss leaders ?
I do not care if Warhammer Fantasy is not selling as well as gay-Marines or Paints. Just because some of the product range is not instantly sold out like a new Primach does not mean it is worthless.
Cutting your second most famous IP and on top the original Fantasy Tabletop game was just a moronic Idea.

              >Just because some of the product range is not instantly sold out like a new Primach does not mean it is worthless.
              It literally means that tho.
It means that the product you're trying sell is not popular and doesn't sell well, meaning it is giving you the hint that "Don't bother, no one gives a shit about this".

Just because you might like a setting doesn't mean lot of other people do.
And the fact is that, if there is not enough popularity, ie. not enough fans and actual population for the game, to warrant new shit, they are not going to make it because it'd mean a waste of time, effort, money and resources.
All of which the company can just use on another product it knows will sell and will basically triple their money.

Never forget that Games Workshop, is purely a company first, and the game and verses second.
All of those are secondary, making profit primary for them, never mistake their intent.

Nta, but loss leaders can only be loss leaders if the existence of said product actually attracts customers and causes them to buy something else. No one was coming into the store looking for WHFB after 2012 before it died. That hilariously enough, started to happened after TWW was released, and I've personally witnessed it happen 4 times this year alone. And the morons still somehow get conned into buying AoS models anyway.

Dude are you just too peasize brain to get it, Warhammer Fantasy the Tabletop game can be at a loss because the IP/Setting and everything around it sells amazing.
So you could have had almost 10 years of more characters Units and Storylines that trickle into other media, and in return could have gotten more players into the hobby.

WHFB was fine in 6th, sales were low because GW deliberately fricked up the game to try and increase sales.

            >I despise the idea of playing a fricking historical warhammer fantasy battles game with nothing mattering because in 150 years age of sigmar happens.

I cannot wait for all the spergs who got salty over a setting they only really missed once it was gone to not even bother with this terrible project GW are funneling resources into.

            >not even bother

TOW will be an excuse to deliberately frick over the setting and release more ugly overpriced models, why would any warhammer fan bother with it?

        Anonymous

What killed WHFB was ultimately GW's paranoia about copyright and trademarks.

That they'd fricked the game's sales with the 7th and 8th editions being absolute shitshows didn't help but wasn't an un-recoverable situation. Like their other games the core income wasn't from the grogs who'd been playing forever, but the churn of noobs. That churn had been fricked over by the entry cost being way too high, Lord of the Rings being right fricking there for another fantasy game that was actually accessible and attached to a thing people outside the GW sphere would give a frick about, and the game itself getting a bad reputation amongst those that still played because of how crap it had gotten.
That was all theoretically fixable. If someone other than the 'genius' Tom Kirby had been in charge at least. Though it can be argued that AoS was the fix, it did address at least for a while the mess of cost of entry in time and amount of stuff required, provided a more distinct visual style to distinguish it from other fantasy stuff like LotR, though the game rules were and are still crap.
But all of that could have been done without killing WHFB.

What couldn't have been done though was fixing how GW couldn't hold a copyright on Elves and Orc and all that shit. That's ultimately why it was killed and replaced outright. GW has a long history of copyright bullying well beyond legally reasonable protection of their brand, but the Chapterhouse case and the spots the space marine frickup, that shook them. Hence why everything according to their bizarre corporate logic had to be destroyed and remade as copyrightable word salad that has been ever increasingly ludicrous.

All that The Old World is for is brand maintenance. A minimum effort product, like one of those no-budget movies made purely for rights retention, except they're hoping to get a few pennies out of it in the process.

Don't you people have jobs? There's more to designing these miniatures than just the cost of the plastic. Who is going to create new models, rules and stories for you when the artists, designers and writers aren't getting paid for their hard work?

I played KoW, it's okay. It does some cool things, but I don't like how little control I feel over my characters. Being able to give a character only one or two magic items that ultimately don't do *that* much is kinda lame. I can definitely see why some people would like it though!
