Same, still finished it though, but I had to play for short periods of time.
Once I played DOOM (another game that gives me motion sickness) on my phone using a controller, and I played it for hours without any sign of motion sickness, I dunno what was the reason for that, maybe the small screen?
I would have wanted to play this game when I was much younger, and didn't have a job or money to buy my own games.
Now that I do, I have to say, I don't enjoy this game as much as Red Faction. I think a big part of that, is that I think zombies are boring as fuck, and it's not satisfying to shoot the enemies, like it is in Goldeneye or Perfect Dark.
The environments are easier to get lost in.
I thought I would enjoy watching Freeman's Mind, but it gets boring at about Episode 5.
I tried watching "The Best of Freeman's Mind" and most of it was dull. I can't believe I watched so much of it when I was younger, but in 2008, options for free online entertainment were obviously a lot more limited.
I got to the point where I'm jumping on crates suspended from the ceiling. I'm still bored, but I've purchased the whole franchise (for less than $7), should I use cheats to skip to a later part of the game?
Should I skip to one of the sequels?
I have never in my life had motion sickness except in prolonged sessions of crazy VR games like roller coaster simulator and even then it was mild. I guess I'm just built different.
It was in the original but then broke at some point. That's the funny thing about 25 year old games: they can spend more time in a "broken" state than "unbroken" to the point that the majority of the audience is used to the "broken" state.
A friend of mine had the same problem.
He played Black Mesa instead, didn't gave him nausea or motion sickness.
Personally, the only game that gave me motion sickness was SWAT 3
Viewbobbing is one of those retarded mechanics that people think is realistic, but is actually the opposite. You don't experience viewbobbing in real life, just like if you turn your head you don't experience the world turning sideways because your brain does weird magic to correct all kinds of errors so they wouldn't distract you.
honestly.... i'd say disregard Half life 1 and its bugs entirely and go straight for Black Mesa Source Classic ( Mod that basicly 1 to 1 Recreates Hl1 in source ). if you fancy a more beliveable atmosphere and world building play Stock Black Mesa
im not gonna argue on that.. but Wtf does that even have to do with belivable atmosphere and world building. In terms of actually feeling like real tangible place black mesa just severly skull fucks OG half life

If you want to play Half-Life then you should play Half-Life, not some mod built upon a fan remake of the game.

I mean, if that's what you want then sure.. but if you want better graphics and actual physics its a literal 1 to 1 remake in terms of actual gameplay outside of the added physics of course

Not that anon, but Black Mesa isn't going for "realism". It's taking the physical form of the level design and applying level art into it. Something that could only be done in a limited capacity in the 90's. It's adding flavor into a world that was already established, without compromising the form for which the original gameplay was designed. Those s-shaped hallways in the original that existed to facilitate loading screens? You can actually justify architecture like that by adding in some level artistry. You need a reason that's consistent with the worldbuilding to explain why that hallway is that shape and not something more convenient. You're not adding realism for realism's sake. You're making the world more believable for the sake of extra immersion. A room who's purpose you can recognize from the objects within it is more immersive than a room who's purpose is obscured due to lack of detail.

It was immersive 25 years ago. Therefore, immersion must not solely depend on graphics.
Or better said, the point where graphics was a hindrance to immersion was passed 20+ years ago. We have graphics because it sells, but I'd rather have top tier character and world design with graphics from a decade ago.
Headbob was a cancerous "realism" gimmick that FPS tried to push. It always gives me a headache to play some old FPS where you bobbed and weaved like an alcoholic.
there oughtta be a button to turn it off, somewhere. I haven't reinstalled to give old HL a go so I don't really remember. Maybe you had to actually add a =0 to the ini or something.
I don't know all the dialogue they changed in Black Mesa, but this rubbed me the wrong way. They added some garbo millennial writing more fit in style for the sequels. "our errant knight in high impact reactive armor" they just had to add it. Completely unnecessary.
Yep, that's pretty much the problem. Added useless little events that were not in the original one also, and too much music.
Millenials just can't resist the urge to add stupid useless shit in it.
Try lowering contrast/brightness on your monitor as much as possible. I don't get motion sickness from HL1 but I do from Quake 2 and older FPS games. Doom, Blood, etc. give me severe headache.
The funny thing is that I don't have it if I play deathmatch just the story. Not sure what is happening
it's probably because of the view bob/sway in singleplayer.
ignore it and keep playing

The only game that gave me motion sickness was Warframe.
did it always have that shitty head bob when turning and aiming? never noticed it
Dude I told you to turn it off in options, advanced
UH OH
Filtered
lower the resolution and play in 4:3
I have never in my life had motion sickness except in prolonged sessions of crazy VR games like roller coaster simulator and even then it was mild. I guess I'm just built different.
If you sniff some isopropyl alcohol it'll mitigate motion sickness.
I had to do it with VR back when I played Boneworks.
kys and hope you're not such a pussy in your next life.
Increase the FOV.
>That camera Head bobbing
I don't remember it being in the original game. Am i misremembering things? Can i turn it off?

Nobody remembers when the glock had 18 rounds from both the chamber and the magazine.

Quake era games had nasty viewbob, just type this in to the console.
cl_bob 0
sv_rollangle 0
there is no way in hell that is an sv_ command
???
I entered these and my computer bluescreened and a message in Russian popped up after I restarted
That only happens if you have CP on your computer.
It's probably viewbobbing. I felt sick while playing Turok until I turned it off,

You do if you look at the horizon. Unless you do some weird operator walk where your eyes remain at the same height.
Turn off head side to side movement, not sure how it's called
should I play the original half-life story and then black mesa or just black mesa? or is black mesa shit that should be ignored entirely?
Black mesa is good, but non canon. Play both, they're both fun.
honestly.... i'd say disregard Half life 1 and its bugs entirely and go straight for Black Mesa Source Classic ( Mod that basicly 1 to 1 Recreates Hl1 in source ). if you fancy a more beliveable atmosphere and world building play Stock Black Mesa

black mesa does neither of these better than HL1
Bro are you blind?
Soul vs. Soulless

I was always under the impression that this was the goal of BMS

Stop being weak.
I set default fov at 105. It helped for my widescreen monitor
