Can you tell me why this game is hated? Did people really dislike Jhon being a massive sperg?
Halo 4 did basically everything wrong. It wasn't just the way Chief was handled.
First off, the artstyle: the Bungie Halo games had a consistent artstyle, even though the graphics got better each time. You believe Halo 1 takes place in the same universe as Halo 2 and Halo 3, and even Reach, because the artstyle is consistent. Halo 4 completely changes everything, which would be bad enough even if the new artstyle were good, but the artstyle changes are also mostly low quality, with only a small handful of new designs that are ok. The only thing that really looks improved is the lighting engine, which could do some nice godrays.
Second, the Prometheans were fricking annoying to fight, constantly teleporting away or being resurrected by the watchers. No good feedback like shooting a Jackal's shield arm and watching them open up for a headshot, popping an Elite shield and watching them get mad about it, spraying an AR into flood spores and watching them pop like popcorn, etc. etc. Every promethean enemy felt bullet spongy. Promethean weapons sucked. Not only were they unfun as enemies, but they were also apparently a replacement for the Flood, and couldn't (or didn't even try to) match the horror movie vibes. Hulking alien robot enemies could be a lot scarier, but with Halo 5 being T for Teen it was clear that they never wanted horror stuff anyway. So basically the prometheans are just boring as frick.
The story showed off the Forerunner AND took off Master Chief's helmet: both of which are pretty much unacceptable, and something the better games never did for a good reason. Both Chief and the Forerunner had a mystery about them, and you could leave them up to your imagination. Chief could look like, or be anyone: it could be you, the player, in that armor.
The story is a meandering mess that doesn't really feel like it's going anywhere compared to the better games...

It was just dangerously mediocre. Everything it tried, a previous title had done better. It was also the start of 343 ruining everything with their shit lore. This was also one of the first games for Xbox one, which is just an awful console in general.
Because it was a very blatant attempt to turn Halo into Call of Duty to capture their audience. I actually quite like the game, but it's clearly different from what a Halo game was at the time. It's by far the best 343 game though.

Prometheans are indistinguishable and outside of crawlers spit in the face of fps gameplay.

New weapons are almost all redundant, Railgun and sticky detonator are okay additions.
Story mode is pretty lame, you’re either left completely in the dark (storm covenant) or hit with MGS exposition films (Diadact/librarian).
MP misses out on the simplicity that makes 3 good. Kill streaks are unexciting, loadouts cause even more redundancy in the weapon pool, maps are boring to bad.
I blame reach for a good portion of why 4 sucks, since 4 just goes harder into the mistakes reach makes.

Wrong. Halo 4 is 360. Their first Xbone game was MCC, which sucked ass in its own way back when the Xbone came out.

I liked the campaign, honestly. It had its share of flaws, certainly, but I remember having fun with it.
For me it was just the level design. 80% of the time all you have are the same forerunner weapons lying around.
