      >personally I found demon of hatred to be harder
The hardest boss for most people will be Demon of Hatred or Sword Saint Isshin depending on their playstyle. I think it's more common for Sword Saint Isshin to be the hardest though. I think the next most common for a person's hardest boss experience are Father Owl and Guardian Ape. I don't know why Father Owl makes some people really struggle, but I do know that it's something about the way Guardian Ape moves that totally throws some folks off and they just can't make any progress unless they grok it.

A lot of people go through the whole game waiting for their "turn" instead of being aggressive and defending on reaction.

        Anonymous

Owl (Father) is easily the most difficult boss in the game. It's no contest. I never understood the meme about DoH being difficult. He telegraphs his attacks really well, he's fairly slow, and you can deal huge damage to him between his attacks if you can the distance.

            Anonymous

His phases are easy though. 2 phases are not that different from each other, and they offer generous windows for attacking him. Patience is key.

Owl (Father) was hard until I went super aggressive at him. When I was playing passive/defensive he would wear me out but getting in his face and forcing the issue made it 100 times easier. DoH made me want to throw my fricking PC tower out the window

Even if you're super aggressive you can only get in max 1 or 2 attacks before he moves to his next attack sequence and his stamina recovers very quickly. You have to whittle away at him so slowly.

i tried whole weekend to beat him only to fail, take a week long break from the game to try again, and then i'd beat him after 3 or 4 tries
Owl (father) i figured out after few hours. but when i figured him out i was able to get to second phase without losing any HP, and then i would die over and over to his weird magic attacks, definitely one of my most favorite fights ever

        >Sword Saint Isshin depending on their playstyle
More like depending on how shit you are at the game.
Sword Saint Isshin is a fricking joke compared to the demon of hatred if you actually know how to play.

Isshin even shares this thing with his grandson where his third phase basically gifts you the win, and the hardest phase is actually 2.
Of course if you never learned how to properly pull off thunder reversal, mikiri counter, or even how to parry correctly, basically if you are so much of a shitter that by the time you have to beat THE FINAL BOSS you never learned how to play, sure the final boss will frick you up.

I 3 shotted mogh, his attacks are easy to dodge but Maliketh filtered me because all of a sudden I was fat rolling when I had been using the same gear for 60 levels and didn’t feel like regearing. Frick the finicky shit stat system of Dark Souls. Just have a game with classes weapons and armor, then all the homosexual no lifers who study Reddit meta guides would get filtered easier.

        Anonymous

Margit has openings that last for year and a half, does little damage and has no poise resistance meaning he stance breaks every other r2. It's one of the easiest bosses as long as you don't mash the circle button like a ds3tard

        Anonymous

Margit is seriously not that hard, he's completely fair, and even weak to ccw circle strafing. All those delayed attacks people like to complain about, just circle strafe, super easy. People are just shit at the game. Same reason only 60% of players make it past vordt, the average gamer just sucks.

If you think Midir is hard you either
    >fought him in co-op
    or
    >targetted his legs or tail instead of his head
Midir is a positioning check. If you are positioned properly (in front of his head, attacking only the head) he is unironically one of the easiest bosses in the entire Souls franchise. Almost every single attack he has can be dodged by WALKING backwards. Motherfricking Abyss Watchers require more mechanical skill to beat than Midir, but for some reason everybody freaks out about him.

    >DeS
Maneaters for sure but only because of their arena and how they always ran off the side like dumbasses, forcing you to wait upwards of 15 seconds for them to come back on just for them to do it again. They aren’t really a duo fight because killing the first one before the 2nd fully arrives isn’t that hard, and they don’t have a difficult moveset. Your deaths will just be from being knocked off. Btw, If Old King Doran counts in your books as a boss then it easily replaces these guys if you don’t cheese him.
    >DS1
Bed of Chaos. Technically in DeS my most deaths in first playthrough were against dragon god but that’s just cause I did him with like 15 vigor and I just had to do the bait and switch tactic for the fists, but I’ve never died to him again in my 5 or so playthroughs after that. but bed of chaos still pisses me off despite being a gimmick.
    >DS2
This game is easy so it’s kinda hard to say. Nothing killed me much. Uhhhhh herp a derp a derp
    >Bloodborne
Orphan of Kos but actually it’s picrel.
    >DeS3
Friede. This actually changes the most depending on how I’m playing, like SL1 I think soul of cinder is harder but normally friede is. Midir and Gael are pretty easy I think.
    >Sekiro
    Never played. Will one day
    >Elden Ring
Malenia, no surprise there. Hardest SL1 fight I’ve done, but I don’t think she’s a bad boss like I see many say. If you want a more unique answer than it’s SL1 Horoah. Only horoah though, Godfrey is easy cause he has a consistent pace.

Maneaters or False King are the hardest boss in DeS

  28. 1 year ago

My contrarian opinion is that Isshin is not that difficult. You should know how to deflect by that point in the game and the 3rd phase is almost a victory lap with the lightning reversal. Demon of Hatred is way more challening since he is a Bloodborne boss stuck in the wrong game and you have tighter dodge windows.

Nope. I went full STR, no great runes, no summons, capped at lvl 100 and that b***h took me more than 40 tries for sure. It was hard, I had to change the weapon I was using and memorize all her moves, but that's it. 40+ tries, maybe 50. Elden Ring was my "first" souls, since I played DS2 a long time ago and Margit filtered me hard. I'm not a pro or anything, I just recognize I need to learn from fights, not try the same over and over again

It's a foolproof defense though. You can't criticize someone for dying a lot if they fought a boss in a way that made it harder than the way you fought the boss. Saying someone is bad at the game because they died more than you while playing on a harder difficulty than you is nonsense. Sure, you could question their decision to impose restrictions on themselves, but at the end of the day, they still fought the boss in a way that made it way harder than the way most people fought it, and that alone justifies the high death count. Most people would die that much, or even more times, if they fought it in the same way.

it's hard for me to say any fromsoft boss is hard, because typically i will only struggle for a boss if my build is specifically locked in to a specific soul level and i am extremely underleveled for the fight.
when i am going through the game without worrying about making a build for multiplayer, lategame bosses become easier than earlygame bosses becuase my build is so extremely damage stacked with no upper limit on soul level.
i think the hardest boss is dark souls 2 ancient dragon. hardest to stay awake, that is.
what also came to mind is early bonfire ascetic ng+ lost sinner, which i usually do very very early to get flame weapon.

"Hardest" as is cancerous (like some puzzle bosses) or "hardest" as is takes a lot of time to learn all of their patterns to defeat them?
Most of my first Soulslike playthroughs were within SL/BL 20-30 (otherwise there's a chance I might bruteforce bosses instead of learning their patterns), so your mileage may vary compared to my experience
    >Demon Souls
I think it was Maneaters, mostly due to them constantly dropping from bridge and flying (so I wasted a lot of time fighting them). Was expected Flamelurker to be hard but hugging his back made him trivial - maybe he was nerfed by the time I started playing DeS on PS3, it wasn't my first Soulslike. Dunno who else can count as hard - Old Monk with online on?
    >Dark Souls
Overall pretty easy in terms of bosses (people who started with it had issues with Capra / O&S / 4 Kings because they were still learning the ropes), especially the second half of the game. I can understand why people say O&S because it was the first proper case of two bosses fighting you at the same time. Never played DLC so dunno about Artorias / Manus / Kalameet.
    >Dark Souls II
I think it was either Lost Sinner (fought her without activating the flames + it was right on release so she wasn't nerfed yet) or Looking Glass Knight (my stats were really bad and invaders didn't make it any easier due to soul memory ignoring my low SL so I was paired against strong people). Darklurker was easier than clearing all three Dark Chasms. Never played any of DLCs or Scholar version.

      >Dark Souls III
Only Gundyr #2 and Nameless King were difficult in vanilla version, and both are optional fights (good luck getting to dragon area without looking it up - at least smacking walls and finding Gundyr #2's location is believable). Friede is more of obnoxious fight where first two phases are waste of time and piss easy while third phase is fun and challenging but dying means you have to waste time on first two phases again. Ringed City DLC had pretty hard bosses in general, but Midir was probably the toughest one (even if Gael is most fun and I liked the aspect of twin demons having different second phase based on which one you killed first).
      >Bloodborne
Main game is probably Logarius - I never knew you could break the blade (?) he throws into ground to stop the vortex (I think I did try to break it during first few tries but something went wrong and I assumed it was unbreakable). I had a lot of troubles with Maria and Laurence, but Orphan of Kos almost OHKO me with any attack he threw at me - probably the hardest boss I fought in Soulslike.
      >Sekiro
Guardian Ape is annoying if you don't know about the worm trick. True Father is overall hard and takes time to learn but not bullshit. SS Isshin was super easy, he gives you way too many openings. Demon of Hatred is Dark Souls boss that was thrown into Sekiro for no reason, so you just hug its legs and fight it like Dark Souls boss.
      >Elden Ring
      Haven't played it yet.

This autist has made 100+ of these worthless threads. "Whose your favorite Souls boss" "What's the hardest Souls boss" "What are your top 5 Souls bosses", etc, usually at around the same time of night every time. This fricking board feels like it's mainly AI generated at this point, there is just no enforced quality-control or active moderation at all.

Melinia is not hard, it's just her bullshit move that ruins the entire fight. It has nothing to do with "git gud" or anything of the sort, it's just a bad move to include in the game because of how your character plays. You either tank it by using big gay shields or you roll spam hoping to get past it; or even unorthodox shit like unlocking, walking by, then rolling in an odd pattern. It's just badly designed because it forces you to do things you wouldn't normally do or be expected to do to get past it.

Overall, shes a really fun fight normally. Once she pulls out her anime bullshit move, it's over. A really great fight that I would honestly probably rate highly like a 9/10 is more like a 3/10 because of that one move.

I recently went back and beat DaS, DaS2, and most of DS3 at SL1, so that will probably inform a lot of my rankings

    >DeS
    1. Flamelurker
    2. Maneaters
    3. False King

Demons Souls honestly isn't really a very difficult game if you're familiar with the underlying souls gameplay fundamentals, and have developed a decent muscle memory for it. It's more about the challenge found in the levels themselves than the bosses.

    >DaS
    1. Kalameet
    2. Artorias
    3. Ornstein and Smough
    4. Four Kings

I was debating whether to include Manus or The Four Kings, but the latter is definitely more annoying on SL1 runs because of the DPS race neccesary. Plus, Manus telegraphs his attacks very effectively, and gives you a lot of free openings with his fist attacks.

    >DaS2
    1. Lud and Zallen
    2. Sir Alonne
    3. Burnt Ivory King
    4. Fume Knight

Lud and Zallen suck dick, and I remember that I ended up using all sorts of bullshit boosting items to finally kill them at SL1. A horrible boss, with a run-up that makes even the Blue Smelter's own craggy hellhole look like paradise.
I would also like to mention that DS2 was by far the most rewarding/interesting game to SL1 run through, and the only one I'd consider doing again any time soon. It's a completely different experiences that prioritises deliberate planning, stat-boosting gear, and clever little item tricks to deal with enemies/bosses/situations.

      >Bloodborne
      1. Orphan of Kos
      2. Ludwig
      3. Laurence
      4. Ebrietas

Orphan's true difficulty comes from overcoming his frantic, spastic flailing moves, and twitchy combos and learning the best opportunities to riposte/backstab him, especially on his second phase where the camera lock-on often breaks.
The Defiled Watchdog was also annoying as hell, but more of an endurance test than true difficulty.

      >Sekiro
      1. Father Owl
      2. Sword Saint Isshin
      3. Isshin Ashina
      4. Demon of Hatred

Not much to say here. Sekiro's game design is so tight and clean that it feels like the developers were able to precisely tune every boss to perfection.

      >Dark Souls 3
      1. Sister Friede
      2. Darkeater Midir
      3. Nameless King
      4. Slave Knight Gael

The Demon Princes gave me the most trouble at SL1, but I've beaten DS3 enough times to recognise that they're otherwise not the most trying bosses.
I feel like once you've played Midir enough, his entire fight becomes more of a waiting game, whereas Friede has several attacks/combos that can catch even experienced players off-guard, especially with how different her three phases are.

      >Elden Ring
      1. Malenia
      2. Mohg
      3. Radagon/Elden Beast
      4. Maliketh

ER is my favourite Souls/From game in general, but Malenia is one of my least favourite of the late-game mega-bosses. It's a shame, because I don't think it would take much to make her great, but From seem resolute in keeping her health regen mechanics and waterfowl tracking as overtuned as they currently are.
Mohg is way more fun, as is Radagon/Elden Beast (never understood why the beast phase get's so much hate, it's fricking beautiful)

Inner father is easily the hardest sekiro boss. Inner isshin comes in second for me. Some people say that he's easier than sword saint Isshin but he feels way more aggressive

Forgot to mention this, but Malenia is also easy as frick and not even top 3 in elden ring (especially at higher ng cycles). She took me less tries than the first time I killed genichiro, and I was level 86 using only a zweihander.

I'm trying DoH right now and it's so uncomfortable to use the umbrella when the game conditioned me to deflect everything with my sword. Is it really possible to evade his fire from below attack in phase 2?

        Anonymous

it’s been a long time since I actually did the fight but I remember with the umbrella it’s obvious which attacks to block and it gives you lots of openings to chip away at his health, since posture doesn’t really matter anyway. the second phase is mostly the same but you need to stay close to avoid the really dangerous attacks and you can easily get away from the divebomb and have significant time to punish. it’s been awhile but I remember once I used the umbrella I did it in like less than ten tries

It's interesting how Malenia mogs anything else in ER in terms of difficulty to the point that I'd argue the second hardest boss in the game is not even a Story one but probably some bullshit overworld boss with bloated damage and status+AoE spam like the Consacrated Snowfield Death Rite Bird.

I didn't realise how challenging/annoying Mohg can be until I started doing challenge runs
    >heals back up to ~6-70% if you don't burst him down quick (w/ bleed or frostbite) during the ritual
    >does whatever the frick he wants and can give you 0 openings
    >tosses bloodflame all over the place if you even try to keep distance, then does it again anyway because he'll always fly away and be away from you
    >fills the arena with gravestones on the side because why not
He's one of the bosses that will still feel like an RNGfest even if you learn his moveset well (unlike Malenia who becomes trivial once you learn how to dodge waterfowl) and always forces you to fight it a specific way (extremely close to him), which I don't like.

Yeah the thing with Mohg is you can out level him much like Margit. If you try fighting him "fair" he is utterly insane. In fact many Elden Ring bosses are completely fricking nuts mechanically. I say this as someone who found Dark Souls bosses relatively easy. Some people seem to have forgotten how easy Dark Souls 1 bosses actually were, you can just sit and drink half the time. Even Margit is harder than 90% of souls bosses.

DeS: Flamelurker; Allant is more mechanically challenging but your character is much stronger and you have access to better stuff.
DS: Kalameet or manus. Biggy Smalls isn't even the hardest boss in the base game, which is definitely 4kids.
DS2: 2cats. Nothing else is even close. The hardest of the rest is imo Dark Lurker, considering all factors such as run back.
DS3: Midir or Gael. Friede with a lower level character/weapon is the best fight though, and only a little easier.
    Bloodborne: Orphan
    Sekri: didn't play, lol
Elden souls: Malenia, and everything else in the list is much easier. Yes you can cheese her and use mimic etc etc, but straight up melee combat as miyazaki intended (any other way and you didn't beat the game btw), she is the hardest souls boss ever

There is no way from will be able to stop themselves from making something even harder for the DLC, and I'm not looking forward to it, Malenia was more than enough challenge for me
